Hi STUDENT7300, I agree that the Lord God would have us study the Scriptures rather than studying about the devil and his work. However, it is good to know who and what we are fighting against and in the final analysis it isn't flesh and blood is it? 2 Cor 10:3,4 and 11:13-15. Romans 8:37, "But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through (Him) who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." I agree also, that we have to take everything in context. However, I believe that we can learn by comparing Scripture to Scripture. May I offer these comparisons which by the way would differ depending on how one interprets and which version is used. Ezekiel 27:1,26, "...O Tyre, you have said, 'I am perfect in beauty.' Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have perfected your beauty. 26 Your rowers have brought you into great waters; The east wind has broken you In the heart of the seas. Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise, your sailors, and your pilots, your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandise, And all your men of war who are in you, With all your company that is in your midst, Will fall into the heart of the seas On the day of your overthrow." 1) Ezekiel 27:1, "Moreover, the word of the (Lord) came to me saying, "And you, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre; and say to Tyre, who dwells at the entrance to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, 'Thus says the Lord God,...'." Ephesians 6:10, "Finally, be strong in the (Lord), and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." 2) Isaiah 14:4-12, "that you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased, and how fury has ceased! The **Lord has broken the staff of the wicked, The scepter of rulers... 12 How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations! But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High./" Ezekiel 28:1,2, "The word of the **Lord came again to me saying, "Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre, 'Thus says the Lord God, "Because your heart is lifted up and you have said, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the heart of the seas'; Yet you are a man and not God/, Although you make your heart like the heart of God--" Revelation 2:28,29, "and I will give him the morning star [or, Morning Star]. He who has an ear, let him hear what the **Spirit says to the churches." The stars and parentheses are mine for comparison. Some of the pronouns that are capitalized for literary style in the NASB I have put in lower case to avoid confusion in deification of the devil. So I would say that the leader of Tyre and king of Babylon are types of the devil. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Morant61, It is true that many have gone down this path with them before. Your comparison Scriptures tell us that Jesus was not a strange god who came down from heaven and dwelt among us. I believe that Isaiah 43:11,12 tells us that there is also no Savior [sic] besides the Lord God. Since they don't know Him as Lord and Savior there is cause for the "frown face". Isaiah 44:8, "Do not tremble and do not be afraid; Have I not long since announced it to you and declared it? And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, Or is there any other Rock? I know of none.'" 9 Those who fashion a graven image are all of them futile, and their precious things are of no profit; even their own witnesses fail to see or know, so that they will be put to shame." Tim, do you see Isaiah 44:18 and John 9:41 as good comparison verses in regard to the Jehovah's Witnesses as well? Isaiah 44:18, "They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their eyes so that they cannot see and their hearts so that they cannot comprehend." John 9:41, "Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have not sin; but since you say, 'We see,' your sin remains." P.S. I wish you a successful move; it doesn't sound like fun to me. Hi childoftheking, I would like you as a "searcher" of the Scriptures to comment on my post #122623. I am looking at verses and considering how they should read in the word of God, the Scriptures. Or as you would say, how it should be seen written in the Word. 1 John 5:8, "The one who does not loves does not know God, for God/ is **love. 1 John 5:16, "And we have come to know and believe the love which God has for us. Hi armygrunt, I would welcome your input on my post #122623, especially if you will refrain from any all CAPS words. John 4:21, "...an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father...23 But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in (s)Spirit/ and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be **His worshipers." Compare and contrast: 1 John 5:6, "This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. 7 And the Spirit/ is the One who bears witness, because the **Spirit is the truth." *His worshipers worship the *Spirit in truth. 190 | Isaiah 55:1-9 | OT general | Ray | 29414
Hi Kalos, You have an excellent post here and a good comparison of Scriptures, I believe. The only thing that I would change, and you know what I'm going to say:), is that it should say "Come unto Me" for He is our God. Isaiah 55:7 Narrowing down the comparison, I would suggest Isaiah 55:5-7 for comparison with your suggested Matthew 11:26-28. "For (He) will abundantly pardon." --- "and (I) will give you rest." Isaiah 55:9, "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are *My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts." Matthew 11:30, "For *My yoke is easy, and My load is light." I hope that this is an encouragement for your fine work here on the forum. Later, Ray |

191 | Is there a prophet in the last days? | OT general | Ray | 30797
Hi Hank, Your Luke 1:17 reference would indicate that John the baptist was a forerunner before Christ. Christ is our Prophet, Priest, and King. Elijah and John were simply prophets. When one compares Luke with Malachi 4:2 we might choose the NKJ with its capitalization. "But for you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall grow fat like stall-fed calves. You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this," says the Lord of hosts." Our Prophet has already come in the Person of the Messiah. This knowledge should cause us to, as the NASB says, "go forth and skip about like calves from the stall." Or, grow fat like stall-fed calves, NKJ. The evildoes will be chaff and ashes, left with no root or branch. If only they would know the Root and the Branch. Amen? Later, Ray |

192 | psalm 121 | OT general | Ray | 64919
Hi imani789, Welcome to the forum. This Psalm is pretty clear and straighforward and offers wonderful promises. I can see Jesus speaking these things when He was in the world. For that reason I offer you these companion Scriptures for meditation and reflection and comparison. Psalm 121:3b,4, "He/ who keeps you will not slumber. Behold He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. John 17:14, "I/ have given them Thy word. Jesus slumbered in the boat as the storm roared while He was with the disciples here on earth. But our God is always aware of our needs and I would not doubt that a Spirit does not sleep. Psalm 121:4, "Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The (Lord) is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect [Or,keep] you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The Lord will guard [Or, keep] your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever." The Lord will guard, protect, and keep us. Luke 4:10, "for it is written, 'He will give His angels charge concerning (You) to guard You,'..." Psalm 91:9, "For you have made the Lord, my refuge, [Or, my Refuge] Even the (Most) High, your dwelling place. No evil will befall you..." Psalm 91:2, "I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!" Psalm 91:1, "He [that is, he] who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the (Almighty). I will say to the Lord,..." Neither our foot nor the Savior's foot will strike against a stone. Psalm 91:12 and Luke 4:11. He is our refuge, shield, bulwark, and our dwelling place. No evil will befalls us. The **Lord will protect, keep, and guard us. He will be our shepherd [feeder], even our good shepherd. Psalm 121:5, "The Lord is your keeper; The (Lord) is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The **Lord will protect you from all evil;..." Revelation 7:15b, "...and he who sits on the throne shall spread His tabernacle over them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; for the (Lamb) in the center of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them to springs of the water of life; and **God shall wipe every tear from their eyes." John 17:15, "(I) do not ask **Thee to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one." Psalm 88:1, "O Lord, the (God) of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before **Thee." Psalm 91:15, "He will call upon Me, and (I) will answer him; **I will be with him in trouble [Or, distress]." This great Shepherd that we know will guide us in the path of righteousness for His name's sake. How great is our God and greatly to be praised. Psalm 91:4b, "...And under His/ wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." Psalm 121:3b, "He/ who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." From the heart, Ray |

193 | Greek genitive cases of the word "of" | OT general | Ray | 69090
Hi Makarios, Your last paragraph introduces various capitalization choices as well. There is "Holy Spirit of Promise", "promised Holy Spirit", "holy Spirit of promise". I would offer yet another interpretation which I have penciled in for my personal copy. That is, "holy spirit of promise". Ephesians 1:13, In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed in Him--you were sealed with this "holy spirit of promise", which is given as a pledge of our inheritance... We have believed the message, the gospel, the word of God and we have believed in Him as the Word also. The word of God, the Scriptures, has been given to us as a down payment until we see the Word in all His glory. From the heart, Ray |

194 | Greek genitive cases of the word "of" | OT general | Ray | 69094
Hi Makarios, I didn't see your retraction notice. It is a good question so I would have said, "Leave it up there for everyone to think about for awhile." For your other examples of Eph 1:17 and Hebrews 1:3 let me say this. I think of the Holy Bible as the word of God. So although we can and should make applications for ourselves, it is made up of His words and is about Him. For that reason I would think of Ephesians as talking about His calling and His inheritance. The hope and the riches of the glory are ours as believers, but it is through His power and might. These words are talking mainly about Him. Thus I would go with the more literal readings speaking of His calling rather than the hope that we have. Hebrews 1:3 speaks to me of the word of His power. He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways. Whether the word was spoken through Angels [angels] or whether God the Father spoke them, it was through His power. Hi Emmaus, I don't see water baptism in Ephesians 1:13. If there is any baptism there it is the baptism of the holy spirit. Ephesians 1:17, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him." I agree that Makarios came up with a good question. From the heart, Ray |

197 | Greek genitive cases of the word "of" | OT general | Ray | 69134
Hi Emmaus, I am afraid that we will have to agree to disagree on the sacraments and especially the number of them. We would also have to talk together about "a baptism of 'water and the Spirit'" according to John 1:5. I do not see that phrase as talking of one event. As far as Ephesians 1:13, I certainly don't see infant baptism in the verse because it talks of "after listening to the message..." What are your thoughts about being "sealed"? From the heart, Ray |
||||||
198 | Greek genitive cases of the word "of" | OT general | Ray | 69141
Hi Makarios, I do not capitalize holy spirit in Ephesians 1:13 because I believe that verse 17 speaks of the same spirit that is given. I also believe that the Greek says or allows for "which" for verse 14. So to me the spirit of wisdom and revelation is the promised "holy spirit of promise" or "promised holy spirit" that is given or poured out. I see two pronouns of Deity in verse 13, "In Him" and having believed being "sealed in Him" if you use the NASB. "In whom" and "in whom" if you use the King James. I compare/contrast it with 2 Timothy 1:12b, "...for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. Retain the standard [pattern, NKJ] of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy/ Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure [good deposit, down payment, pledge, promise, holy spirit?] which has been entrusted to you." Ephesians 1:12, "to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the *holy *spirit of promise, *which is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God/'s own possession, to the praise of His glory." I believe that the Holy Spirit indwells us when we trust in Him as our Savior. I also believe that the Scriptures talk of holy spirit. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Emmaus, I am late in responding to you, but I am trying to answer everyone. I only wanted to say in response to the annointing that you spoke of, that I look at it a little differently. Your wife was annointed with the words "Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit". I think of the Holy Spirit as the Giver and the holy spirit as the gift. I think that the "case" of the word gift is as important as differentiating between thinking of Jesus as a man or as a Man when we think of eating His flesh in communion. John 6:52, "The Jews therefore began to argue with one another, saying, "How can this man [Man, NKJ] give us His flesh to eat?" Jesus therefore said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves." When one thinks of Christ as Holy Spirit instead of just a man, then he can understand this gift of holy spirit of which we partake and which is given to us. I believe that it is the spirit which gives life; the flesh profits nothing. John 6:63. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Emmaus, It is good to have you on the forum. The capitalization of words shows "interpretation" rather than translation. In this case you choose Gift and I choose gift. As a member of the RCC you would probably choose "Mother" of God to describe Mary. I would put it as the lower case "mother". Someday we will learn the more accurate interpretations. I suppose we may have to wait until heaven when we learn from the Teacher. Job 37:22, "Behold, God is exalted in His [spiritual?] power; Who is a teacher like (Him)? 23 Who has appointed Him His way, And who has said, 'Thou hast done wrong'? 24 Remember that you should exalt His work, Of which men have sung." 1) We have all seen His work, but we see it from afar. Isaiah 30:20, "Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression, (He), your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher." 2) My hope is that all men will get to know Him. I trust that we can know the Teacher better while we are here on earth. From the heart, Ray |
