justme: you said: "it is the utmost importance that you and your wife worship together" If you read both of my first two posts, which said, worship became something I could no longer do, even as much as I desired to give to God the worship which is due Him. I also stated that in the Contemporary music format, all my joy in the Lord was departing from me. I wanted to worship. At no moment did I ever think or say that Contemporary style worship music is wrong. I just know that through that style, I cannot seem to find the ability to give worship to God, who alone is the audience for my worship. And I doubt if my wife has ever worshipped in the Biblical sense. She refuses to even discuss it. I am in my mid- fifties and have found that by changing churches, I am once again enabled to worship my Lord and Savior. The worship style of the music at the church I now attend is called a blend. It's a mellow mix of some of the old favorite sacred hymns, along with a few well selected choruses. There are no drums, electric guitars, etc. It's all done with Acoustical instruments, and it blends together in a way that is very reverent. God Bless you New Creature |

DBlesser Consider the following quotes by respected men of God "Many Christians have what we might call a "cultural holiness" They adapt to the character and behavior pattern of Christians around them. As the Christian culture around them is more or less holy, so these Christians are more or less holy. But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like Himself" "We have a lot of markings that look like Christianity these days, but we have drastically revised the parameters. People have lowered the standards in a vain attempt to make churches look more successful than they really are. The sermons have to be uniformly positive, and the services can’t go longer than 60 minutes. Even then church is inconvenient for some, especially during football season. Showing up at church is such a burden that soon people will be faxing in their worship. Jim Cymbala The truth is that “user friendly” can be a cover-up word for carnality. The same people who want 60 minute worship services rent two hour videos and watch NBA and NFL games that run even longer. The issue is not length, but appetite. Why the misplaced desire" Jim Cymbala "It’s sad but true that many churches today have turned to recreation and entertainment in an attempt to hold the people, becoming more and more like the world." "Todays brand of Christianity is a feel good brand of Christianity" "It has been said that Christianity in America these days is 10 miles wide and a quarter inch deep" "The religion of many professing Christian’s today is based on nothing more than their own self-interests: what helps them, benefits them, contributes to their own well being. Such is not the religion of Jesus Christ." (William C. Nichols) "The true church will all emphasize: 1. The person of Jesus Christ 2. Real life as opposed to hype 3. Holiness in contrast to happiness 4. True unity, not Ecumenical compromise 5. Love of the truth Todays church sadly emphasizes: 1. Music, leader, and methods 2. Hype (masquerading as annointing) 3. Selfism (ego-driven preaching and practice) 4. Unity at any price 5. Fables replacing truth (appealing to itching ears)" Shalom New Creature |

DBlessor Let me take the time to remind you that the opinions I previously posted which you object to, come from well respected men of God, who over the years saw the sliding backwards of the church further into worldliness. These respected Christian men I quoted, know the word of God. So when I post their comments on what they saw happening to the church, and what is happening in the church, they were not by any strech of the imagination, angry at the church, and neither am I. These faithful men of God wrote down warnings for all of us, so they we might recognize where we were as a church body in the past, and how far we have strayed from where we once were. The church is becomming more and more like the world. Even Paul warned us in Acts when he said to the elders of Ephesus: Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Acts 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Acts 20:31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. So if you disagree with what I have posted you are not mainly disagreeing with me, but more importantly with men of God who ministered and labored night and day in the word of God. Men like A. W. Tozer, and Pastor Jim Cymbala of the brooklyn Tabernacle Church, and others. These are the names of a few of the men from whom the quotes came that I posted in my 2 replys. I respect their insights and you should as well. Spoken in love in Christ Jesus name New Creature |

mommapbs Because I love the body of Christ, it saddens me when I see that individuals think we need to court the world's methods, and music to attract people into the church. Much of the music in the church today, sounds so similar to the world's music, and even the lyrics are so shallow and empty. One humble pastor even told me personally that much of what is called Christian music today is nothing more than and attempt for people to make money, using the label "Christian" The following Scripture seems relevant to this issue: Ezek. 33:31 they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. Ezek. 33:32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. Grace and peace be with you New Creature |

DBlesser Much of what is labeled "Christian Music" today is secular and worldly. Consider the following; Rich Mullins said: "I'm really sick of all this heavy-handed Christianity. Musicians take themselves too seriously. They should have more FUN, and they should stop preaching unless that's what God has called them to. If I want to hear a sermon, I'll go to church, thank you." (CCM magazine, April, 1987, p. 12) Here's what a secular reporter in the Birmingham News wrote after watching a Michael W. Smith concert: "If you weren’t familiar with Michael W. Smith’s standing in the world of contemporary Christian music, you might attend one of his concerts and come out none the wiser." (The Birmingham News, Feb. 12, 1993 p. 5c) Michael W. Smith's album, Change Your World, has 2819 words — Jesus occurs — ZERO! Michael W. Smith's album, I’ll Lead You Home, has 2046 words — Jesus occurs — ZERO! Michael W. Smith's album, Live the Life, has over 1100 words — Jesus occurs — you guessed it — ZERO! Michael W. Smith Smith’s concerts are filled with teenage girls who "scream out their affection for him" (not the Lord Jesus Christ). Here’s how Inside Music, Jan/Feb 91, describes a Smith concert: "His concerts draw hundreds of thousands of fans each year, mostly teenage girls who scream out their AFFECTION FOR HIM non-stop throughout. . . . To his fans, Smith is the absolute greatest there is, BAR NONE . . ." Even CCM artist, Michael Card, admits that much of CCM — is NOT Christian: "The lyrics of a good number of the songs don’t betray anything specifically Christian —they may have some moral message, but not a lot of the big songs are identifiably Christian. . ." (Can't Buy Me Love, Christianity Today, May 20, 1996, p. 25) True Christian music lifts-up and praises the Lord Jesus Christ — not man. Much modern Contemporary Christian Music glorifies man: Lastly the following Scripture seems revelant to modern man-centered worship. this is a rebellious people, ... that will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, PROPHESY NOT UNTO US RIGHT THINGS, SPEAK UNTO US SMOOTH THINGS, PROPHESY DECEITS. Is. 30:9-10 Micah 2:11 If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. Ezek. It's sad that those in the Old Testament refused to hear the voices of their prophets, who would have brought them back to the Lord from whom they were drifting away from. And it is even much sadder that many today pay no attention to the voices of those crying in the wilderness for us to return to a pure undefiled worship of God, and His Son Jesus Christ. The point I'm trying to convey is that the MAJORITY of "so called" Christian Contemporary Music is not annointed, but glorifies man instead of God. And much of todays music is written by many only for the money. Many in the music business themselves say this is so, and they are much closer to what is happening in the CCM world than I am Shalom New Creature |

I also wanted to send the following verse your way. "Thus saith the LORD, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk therein.'" Jeremiah 6:16 Peace and love New Creature |

Dear Ken John; After reading your posts, and discovering your dislike for the NIV Bible and possibly other modern translations, I was reminded of the following short story about Bible Versions that I thought I would pass along to you. WHICH BIBLE VERSION "The story is told of four ministers discussing the pros and cons of various Bible translations and paraphrases. Eventually each stated which version, in his opinion, is the best. The first minister said he used the King James because the Old English style is beautiful and produces the most reverent picture of the Holy Scriptures. The second said he preferred the New American Standard Bible because he felt it comes nearer to the original Greek and Hebrew texts. The third minister said his favorite was the paraphrased Living Bible because his congregation was young, and it related to them in a practical way. All three men waited while the fourth minister sat silently. Finally he said, "I guess when it comes to translations and paraphrased editions of the Bible, I like my Dad's translation best. He put the Word of God into practice every day. It was the most convincing translation I've ever seen." P.S. I agree with Tim Moran that the KJV is a very good translation, and in fact was the only one I preferred to use in the early stages of my faith in Christ Jesus. These days I prefer to use the NASB, but I also enjoy the NIV and the NKJV as well. Also, when I first came to faith in Christ it was through reading the Living Bible (which is just a paraphrase) But nevertheless, God used that simplistic paraphrased translation to bring to Himself. So I must ask; can God bridge the translation barrier, and draw lost souls to Himself? Once I became saved, I began using only the KJV. I still use it to this day, but not exclusively. As Tim Moran stated to you. The authors of the KJV of long ago, did not have all the manuscripts as well as archeological findings as evidence, that are now have become available to us. So please take that into consideration if you would. Blessings New Creature |

KJ; What would I possibly need to forgive my father about? My own physical father was never mentioned in any of my posts. Once again the story was merely an illustration used to convey a point. The people in the story were figurative and not actual. P.S. Great verse Blessings New Creature |

Makarios; I agree. I just wanted to see how others in the forum would respond. I personally do not see where our Christian liberty gives us license to continue in a life-style of habitual sin. The antinomians however do believe we have a license to sin. For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. (Jude 1:4 NIV) Thanks for your sincere reply. I do respect your thoughts in this forum, even if we disagree in other areas, or about other questions that arise in this forum. Blessings to you New Creature |

Doc; I agree with the analogy you used about Lazarus that before he would be able to hear the command of Christ to "come forth" he had to first be made alive. John 11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. New Creature |
