Has not God promised us that the Holy Spirit, will guide and teach us? (John 14:26 and 16:13. Is He not sufficient and trustworthy? Or do we now need to trust faliable men to teach us? Do we not have a Divine teacher, a trustworthy teacher, matter of fact the only trust-worthy teacher in the Holy Spirit? 1 John 2:27 states that if we have the annointing of the Holy Spirit upon us, we need not that any man teach us. This once again proves that the Holy Spirit and the word of God are all the trusting one needs. And is in fact the only truly reliable source that can be ultimately trusted. |

Scripture says; The Holy Spirit shall teach and guide us into all truth. (John 14:26 and 16:13) I believe it must sadden the Lord today when many Christian's rely on their favorite book author or commentary writer, to tell them what portions or verses of scripture mean. They not only rely on human opinion as being the final authority for Scripture explanation, but refuse to trust that the Holy Spirit will be their teacher, as Scripture so clearly states. Today the Bible, and the Holy Spirit take a back seat to human interpretation. So we today end up with a lot of untruths, and half truths mixed with truth, which result in disagreement, division, and denominationalism. |

Sorry you feel the way you do. The fact of the matter is that this is a topic that I have been studying as of lately and want to listen to what others have to say concerning this topic. Besides didn't Jesus himself say: " LuKe 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:" |

Dear justme; It sounds like the Lord has brought you through quite a lot, and has made a lot of changes in your life. I will pray for you as you asked that the Lord will continue to lead you comfort you and guide you. It's hard in a forum like this to get to really know one another, we assume a lot about what the other person must be like by their writtings. I too have been through quite a lot, and it is hard for me to trust people anymore because of some of the disappointments I have had with people whom I thought I could trust. All I can say is people will let us down but Jesus is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother, and he will never leave us or forsake. He said "Lo I am with you always. Love and peace newcreature |

Dear stokeyhk The case you stated is true however that was not always the case through-out Scripture, for clearly in Acts chapter 10 we read of those who received the Holy Spirit before being baptized. I will post the text for you. Ac 10:44 ¶ While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. We need to make sure we take each situation mentioned in Scripture, and then come to a proper understanding. |

You stated "There's no record that anyone else received holy spirit before they were baptized" I would just like to say that I personally received the Holy Spirit first and then became baptized afterwards, just like in Acts chapter 10. Not only that but thousands upon thousands like myself experienced the same order of events in their new found faith. Are we to say that the people in Acts chapter 10, or the many people today who have experienced an Acts chapter 10 conversion, were not truly converted? Through our inward witness we Acts chapter 10 converts know that we now belong to Him just as Romans 8:16 and other such verses say; Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Maybe your experience differed from others, but don't discount the conversion of others whose experience differs from yours or others. Lets not limit the operations of the Holy Spirit. |

CDBJ I totally agree with your reply. Especially about hungering and thirsting after God. You made the following comment about that: "Now days, people don’t appear to have the hunger that I did when I was a new born in Christ; the desires today are closer to that of one who is stillborn and this puzzles me greatly." That reminds me of a part of a prayer I found by A. W. Tozer; "Oh God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee. I long to be filled with longing, I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me the grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long. In Jesus name, Amen" It also brings to mind the words of Psalm 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; And lastly in the 42 Psalm "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?" This is deep calling unto deep, and the longing heart will understand it." Blessings New Creature |

EdB Your reply to CDBJ was interesting and my mind raced off to remember the 2 following quotes by A.W. Tozer "Too many people consider Jesus Christ a convenience. We make Him a lifeboat to get us to shore, a guide to find us when were lost. We reduce Him simply to a Big Friend to help us when we are in trouble. That is not bibical Christianity." "Any appeal to the public in the name of Christ that rises no higher that an invitation to tranquillity must be recognized as mere humanism with a few words of Jesus thrown in to make it appear Christian. mommapbs; While in church yesterday, the message we received in the service, was given by a missionary from Gabon, Africa. She emphazied the important fact which you mention here, that it is not just the Pastor's job to do the evangelizing, the missionary, said it's the job of each one of us to accomplish. I keep being reminded from the Lord, that I am to pray that the Lord will prepare hearts, that are ready to hear the saving message of the gospel. I then pray that the Lord would prepare me also, as I go out into the world, into my workplace, into the market place, in my neighborhood, or where ever the Lord wants to send me. I pray that I would be a clean vessel, that God can use to witness to a world that is lost and on its way to hell. Then I pray for the Lord's guidance and wisdom, and surrender my whole being, to Him. I pray and ask God to use my feet to take me to those individuals whose hearts He has made ready, and that He would use my mouth to speak His words, not my words. In my experience, when I have begun my day in prayer like I mentioned, then the Lord has giving me success in witnessing to others, and that has been in answer to prayer. It truly is God's desire to use each one of us for His glory, but it gives us each encouragement and boldness to witness further when we see success in our seed planting and witnessing. Praise be to God, to Him alone belongs the praise honor and glory. Blessings New Creature |

CDBJ; My reply is a personal testimony concerning the following comment of yours; "It’s not the job of the pastor to reach the lost, it the job of the saints." Amen to that We need to remember that it is Jesus who actually does the saving. However He desires that we share His work. He desires to use us as His ambassbors, who are sent as representatives of His kingdom to reach the lost. Pray that the Lord would prepare hearts, both those who are lost, and ours as well, as each day we go into the world of lost souls, being alert and prepared to give an answer for the reason of the hope within us. And may we do so in His power and boldness and strength, and may it all be done in love. Blessings New Creature |
