1341 | Why will God judge the church? | 1 Pet 4:17 | Mommapbs | 97450
Searcher: in your prior you wrote, "we will experience some of His wrath". This is not the same as "seeing" it. I stand firm on the promise of God in 1 Thess 5:9, "For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." mommapbs |

I guess that depends on your doctrinal position; I believe in a pre-wrath rapture of the Church. Certainly those who are saved during this period of God's wrath that is poured out on the earth will experience it, but the Church, the Bride of Christ . . . no. Perhaps we have to agree to disagree here. mommapbs |

It has been my understanding that the first resurrection is for those who have died during the period of time between when the Church is taken out (1Thess. 4:17) and the Lord returns to the earth. I do not see the account as written in 1 Thess. 4:15 in Rev 20- do you? We, the Church will meet the Lord in the air, this is not the same as what is described in Rev 20:5. I suspect that part of the problem of understanding the "chain of events" of the Last Days is that in The Revelation, John is recording events as they are shown to him, I liken it to watching serveral different TV monitors at once. It is my personal belief that believers will be kept from the wrath of God - and the time of their "departure" is prior to the vial or bowl judgments - perhaps this is what John was told to seal up in Rev 10:1-7. But this is pure speculation and I don't believe it is wise to "camp" here. There are many "scholars" who have searched for understanding of the end times, and although we can discern the times, recognize the signs of His coming, no one really knows the day or the hour of His coming except the Father. I am convinced that He is able to "keep what I have committed unto Him against that day!" Keeping the Day in mind is a good reason to focus on today and may we continue to encourage others to seek the Lord while He may be found. mommapbs |

Norm - from a post by Kalos: "We must not confuse God's discipline with His wrath. The Bible teaches that the church will enter the Seventieth Week of Daniel and, after the midpoint, the church will face persecution by Antichrist. This time, which Christ called the Great Tribulation (Matt. 24:21), will be Satan's wrath against the church (Rev. 12:12), not God's wrath. God's wrath does not begin until after the sixth seal is opened (Rev. 6:12-17), the church has been raptured (Rev. 7:9-14), and the seventh seal is broken, initiating the trumpet judgements (Rev. 8:1-6). "God will bring discipline upon the church in order to purge, purify, and refine it. We are promised in God's Word that we will not face God's wrath, but we are never promised exemption from suffering, persecution, or trials. Rather, we are promised that God will "discipline us for our good, that we may share His holiness." (Hebrews 12:10). God will bring the church through the Great Tribulation so that we will be presented to Christ as His bride, "in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle...that she should be holy and blameless..." (Eph. 5:27), "... so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming." (1 John 2:28). "The persecution that believers suffer today, and will suffer during the Great Tribulation, is a sign that we are part of the household of God. He, as a good father, is purifying His family for our good. We may not enjoy the experience, but we can rejoice that we are among those facing discipline now, being purified in preparation for heaven, rather than among those who will face the full force of divine judgement later." Commentary on 1 Peter 4:17 by Tim Moran The context of the passage is suffering for being a Christian - 1 Pet. 4:12-19. Therefore, I think the judgement referred to in 4:17 is the painful trials of v. 12 and the suffering of v. 19. While this suffering is part of God's will for believers, He is not the source of it. The suffering is a natural outflow of our faith in Christ. Verse 18 seems to be making a sort of play on words. If it is this hard to be a Christian, then what will it be like for those who aren't Christians? Therefore, the 'judgement' referred to here is not condemnation by God or His wrath. It is simply the suffering we endure for being His children. |

Kalos, this is the passage I am pondering: 1 John 4:15-18. Because we abide in God and God abides in us, we have confidence on the day of judgment that there is NO CONDEMNATION for those who are IN Christ (Romans 8:1) - Perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment - but we have been perfected! "As HE is," already judged for our sin - it is FINISHED, so also are we, IN HIM. Therefore, the day of judgment is not FOR the Church. We have passed from death to Life. We may be observers of this event, and much as some might like to sit in the Judment Seat, that Place has been taken! Let's endeavor and encourage others to keep their eyes on Jesus, the Author and FINISHER of our faith! Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Hank - Can I cast my "cares" upon the Lockman Foundation and expect a reponse to the irresponsible posts that have appeared on the Forum recently? I wrote with my concerns but the posts keep coming... I hope that other members will take up the banner and refute his/her drivel as I head off to bed! Thanks again for your discernment. I appreciate this in you. mommapbs |

Greetings lionheart - thank you for the warm greeting. I understand what you are saying, yet it appears to me that the emphasis, imo is what God works in us to accomplish His purpose - to conform us to the image of His Son, Jesus. We particpate in cooperating with Him, but apart from God at work in us, we can do nothing to bring these attributes about. (John 15:5) Blessings, mommapbs |

Hi Mark - I'd agree with you grammatically, but do read what Tim Moran shared about word usage in Greek - yeah, it's Greek to me too! It does change this a bit . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

1356 | What does the word "these" reference? | 2 Pet 1:4 | Mommapbs | 163428
Hi Mark: Here is how I "see it" - God has given us everything - everything imo is HIMSELF. For He is ALL we need for life and godliness - His grace is sufficient. When I consider that He promises, I realize that it is my responsibility to trust, to believe that HE HAS already given me everything I need . . .even if I don't see it all right now. That's a good starting point for us when we consider one another as co-heirs with Christ - some of us are still ignorant of what we have been given. My 2 cents. Blessings, mommapbs |

1358 | Why angels are not forgiven? | 2 Pet 2:4 | Mommapbs | 86469
Greetings Scribe - I do think about some pretty off beat things at times, but even these take me to the foot of the cross! I am continually amazed that God would rescue us!!! What love the Father has LAVISHED upon us- His children! In thinking this over, I recognize that both angels and man were created to glorify God - yet man was created in God's image - this sets him apart. Also, is there any evidence of a love "relationship" between God and the angelic order? I suspect that these differences somehow are related to our forgiveness and not theirs. As for now, I'll just ponder it for a while. . . God says, HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR ME! Dt 29:29. mommapbs |

Thanks Dairyleader, I'm still thinking about this! Man's purpose is to reflect the glory of God as He was made in God's image, unlike the angels, as Pastor Glenn pointed out, they were spirit beings without a physical nature such as ours . . . when the Bible is silent about an issue, I suspect that God has a purpose for keeping this information from us, but we can be sure that is is for our benefit! (Rom 8:28) As I contemplate the rejection of God by these angelic beings, I am astonished for they were in the very presence of the LORD! And yet we too are without excuse! How I praise God for His love, mercy and grace - extended to me, a sinner! Forgiveness is a beautiful experience is it not?! mommapbs |
