3641 | what about the K J V | Rev 3:10 | Makarios | 25090
Greetings Ed! Thank you for posting the NLT and NASB renderings of Psalm 116:15. The ESV translates it this way.. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." As for the New Living Translation (NLT), it is a great and vast improvement over its predecessor, the Living Bible, and it is one of the most clear and readable translations on the market today. However, the NLT is still "too interpretive" for me and I do not like the 'word order' and overall style of the NLT. It is not as "functionally equivalent" as I would like, and I was not altogether impressed with it. But that is not to say that you won't be. This is all just my own opinion! If you find that the NLT is readable and accurate and if it suits your needs, then by all means- use it! You have made a good choice in picking a Bible with the NLT. However, the NLT is not one of my favorites. Blessings to you, Nolan |

Greetings Kalos! There was never any "disagreement" between Ed and myself here.. There were no "sides" as I can recall, but I appreciate the effort. As far as I know, Ed and I are completely at peace with each other, as you and I are, my friend! Blessings to you, Nolan |

Greetings Truthfinder, You say, "The Father Jehovah never refers to his Son as his God and Jesus taught us to pray to the Father, since he is our God." How, may I ask, do you interpret Hebrews 1:8, which says, "But of the Son He says, "YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM." ? (the words of God the Father are capitalized in the NASB) Also, there is 1 Timothy 3:16, which states (using the NKJV): "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory." Please consider these verses as you contend that Jesus was not God Himself. I also have many more to refer you to, if you need any more. The entire gospel of John was written with the purpose of revealing to all in this world that Jesus was, in fact, God Himself. Blessings to you, Makarios |

3644 | Jesus Created or Creator??? | Rev 3:14 | Makarios | 96036
Who is this Jesus? Some teach that Jesus is something far different from what Christianity teaches.. Some even teach that Jesus is a "secondary god." Some even have an altered Bible translation that states that He was 'a god', or that he was the Archangel Michael, or only a man on earth. However, there is no scriptural proof that states that Jesus and Michael are the same. Michael is not called Jesus. Jesus is not called Michael. So if Jesus is not Michael, then just who is Jesus? Revelation 1:8 says, "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Now, some may say that it is Jehovah God who is speaking in Rev. 1:8. However, we always need to look at Scripture as a whole. If you honestly take a look at Rev. 1:8, you know that it is the "Almighty" who is speaking. Obviously, it is the "Almighty" Himself who is speaking here, and He is calling Himself the "Alpha" and the "Omega." Ok, now just who could claim to have this identity, of being the "Almighty" and the "Alpha" and the "Omega"? Let's read this in context with the Bible, and look over at Rev. 22:12-13.. Revelation 22:12-13 says, "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." As you can see, the SAME person who spoke in Rev. 1:8 is speaking in Rev. 22:12-13, the same person who is the "Alpha" and the "Omega", who is the "first" and the "last", the "beginning" and the "end." But, the speaker's thought continues in verse 14, 15 and 16! It doesn't end with verse 13. The speaker, who is the "Almighty", the "Alpha" and the "Omega", the "first" and the "last", goes on to say that "Blessed are those who wash their robes.." and "Outside are the dogs..". But he continues speaking through verse 16, which states, "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." Therefore, the SAME person who is the "Almighty" in Rev. 1:8, and the "Alpha" and the "Omega", the "first" and the "last", the "beginning" and the "end" in Rev. 22:12-13 is also stating that He is "Jesus" in verse 16! The SAME speaker is speaking from Rev. 22:12-16! Therefore, Jesus is the "Alpha" and the "Omega", the "first" and the "last", the "beginning" and the "end." Let's look at Rev. 1:17 to get further clarification on the "first" and the "last", since in the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses, every matter is established. In Rev. 1:17, John sees a vision of the Son of Man, which is Jesus Christ. (Do you agree that Jesus is the 'Son of Man'?) Therefore, Rev. 1:17-18 states, "When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades." Therefore, the SAME person who states that He is the "first" and the "last" in Rev. 22:12-16 is ALSO speaking in Rev. 1:17-18, stating that He is the "first" and the "last", and goes on to state that He was dead and lives forevermore. As you can see, only Jesus (Rev. 22:16) can fit this description of being "dead" and then living "forevermore"! So let's go back to Rev. 1:8, and put the speaker's name in where it belongs - "I, Jesus, am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty!" Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings my friend, I believe that I am supported by the great majority of all scholars (Christian and non-Christian) when I would say that the New World Translation is the single worst and most irresponsible claim to Biblical translation and literature that this world will ever know. Greetings Truthfinder, When the translators of the NASB, NKJV and other translations (that are held in high regard) read or translate Hebrews 1:8 as a verse that ascribes Deity to Christ, they do not do so just on this single verse. The Deity of Christ is affirmed by Scripture in many other places, and not just this place. Jesus is in no way a 'lesser God' than the Father. In Isaiah 10:21, Yahweh Himself is called "Mighty God", which obliterates any suggestion that the expression must refer to a lesser deity as opposed to "Almighty God". Also, there is only one "Mighty God", as seen in Isaiah 44:6,8 and 45:5. It is highly revealing to note that in Isaiah 40:3, Jesus is called both Yahweh and Elohim in the same verse: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD [Yahweh]; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God [Elohim]." This verse was written in reference to the future ministry of Jesus Christ (John 1:23), and represents one of the strongest affirmations of Christ's deity in the Old Testament. Scripture is also clear that in His divine nature, Jesus is omniscient- just as omniscient as the Father is. The apostle John said that Jesus "did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man" (John 2:25). Jesus' disciples said, "Now we can see that you know all things" (16:30). After the Resurrection, when Jesus asked Peter for the third time if Peter loved him, Peter responded: "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you" (21:17). Jesus knew just where the fish were in the water (Luke 5:4-6, John 21:6-11), and He knew just which fish contained the coin (Matt. 17:27; John 7:29, 8:55, 10:15, 17:25). Jesus was omniscient just like His Father in heaven. In John 14:28, is Jesus saying that the Father is greater than He? Not at all. Jesus is not speaking in this verse about His nature or His essential being (Christ had earlier said, "I and the Father are one" in John 10:30) but is rather speaking of His lowly position in the Incarnation. The Athanasian Creed affirms that Christ is "equal to the Father as touching his Godhood and inferior to the Father as touching his manhood." The Father was seated in heaven upon the throne of highest majesty while His incarnate Son was despised and rejected of men, soon to be nailed to a criminal's cross. It is from this perspective that Jesus could say that the Father is 'greater' than Him. In His divine nature, Jesus was fully equal to the Father. But in his humanity, Christ could say that the Father was 'His God' (John 20:17). Also, Christ and the Father are utterly equal in their divine being (John 10:30), though Jesus is functionally under the Father's headship (1 Cor. 11:3). There is no contradiction in affirming both an equality of being and a functional subordination among the Persons in the Godhead. Christ in His divine nature is fully equal to the Father, though relationally (or functionally) He is subordinate or submissive to the Father. Also, Jesus is called the 'firstborn' in Colossians 1:15. Christ is the 'firstborn of creation' in the sense that He is positionally preeminent over creation and is supreme over all things. He is also the "heir" of all creation in the sense that all that is the Father's is also the Son's. Revelation 3:14 says that Christ is "the Beginning of God's creation".. This refers to Christ as the 'active beginning of the creation, the One who caused the creation, referring to Jesus Christ not as a created being, but the One who created all things (John 1:3). Jesus is the architect of all creation (Colossians 1:16, Hebrews 1:2). God is both the beginner and consummation of creation. He is the first cause of creation; He is its final goal. Hello again Truthfinder, As I have said before, please do not discount the Gospel of John, which was written for the very purpose of showing the world that Jesus was, in fact, God in the flesh.. Does your Bible include the Gospel according to John the Apostle? "In the Gospel of John, the miracles of Jesus are called signs, indicating that they pointed to His messiahship. John records seven signs (see also 4:46–54; 5:1–9; 6:1–14; 6:15–21; 9:1–7; 11:38–44). This sign signified Christ’s glory—that is, His deity. When Jesus transformed water into wine, He demonstrated His power." (1) "2:1-12 The First of Jesus’ Signs: Water Changed into Wine. The miracles of Jesus as John describes them are told not only to report the amazing results of Jesus’ powers but to present them as signs which point to symbolic meanings that stand over these events. The aim of them all is to portray Jesus as “the Messiah, the Son of God” and to evoke trust in him (Jn 20:30-31). The site of the wedding is Cana, probably a small village north of Nazareth. The wedding is a symbol in prophetic tradition for the time of fulfillment of God’s purpose for his people (Isa 54:4-8; 62:4-5), just as an abundance of wine symbolizes the joy that accompanies that event (Am 9:11-14; Hos 14:4-7; Jer 31:12-14). The use of the stone water jars indicates the inadequacy of the Jewish rites of purification. The good wine kept until now signifies that the consummation of God’s plan is only now being disclosed. What is revealed by this act of Jesus is the very nature (glory) of God, in which his followers now begin to trust." Greetings Christian7! Thank you! I get especially "avid" to post when the Deity of Christ is questioned on any level. And I do not hold back!! All of my resources - all of my Study Bibles, all of my internet resources - are 'fair game' for use when someone questions the Deity of Christ. And that is when I hope to be at my VERY BEST at posting, since this IS the staple of our faith! Your Brother in Christ, Makarios |

Thank you Darcy! Hopefully it will shed some light for those who do not believe that Jesus is, in fact, God Himself! I must confess: the quickest way to get me to post, or come to the defense of the Forum, or to get riled up in general, is for someone to question the Deity of Christ. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Truthfinder, We can study the Trinity as well as the Deity of Christ, if you like, and I have even more verses to give you in regards to the Trinity! But I must say that you have a lot of 'initiative' in coming to a "StudyBibleForum" where many Christians dwell, and attempt to disprove that Jesus was fully God and fully man, and attempt to disprove the Trinity. But don't worry, I will be here for this debate, and I will go through each and every verse with you, and I gaurantee that my mind will not be the one that is changed. Nothing will shake the faith that I have in my Lord or in His Holy Word. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Truthfinder, Not much of what you have actually shared makes a whole lot of sense, nor was it shared within the context of any specified passage. Here is what Strong's Exhaustive Concordance shares about "beginning" in Rev. 3:14.. "arche ar-khay' From G756; (properly abstract) a commencement, or (concrete) chief (in various applications of order, time, place or rank): - beginning, corner, (at the, the) first (estate), magistrate, power, principality, principle, rule." Also, none of the sources that you have used could possibly lead you (or anyone else) to a conclusion that "beginning" means "created" (or, as it where, that Jesus was created) as you have so specified. The lexicons that you use only attempt to tell you what the specified word means. They do not answer the question of meaning based on context of a specific verse. :-) Therefore, your conclusions are entirely baseless, and your studies are entirely worthless. You will be unable to convince of ANYTHING unless you can answer the question WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SCRIPTURE. Until then, I am just going to run Scripture after Scripture after Scripture at you until you do. :-) So let me take apart some more incorrect conclusions that you have come to in studying specific verses.. 1 Timothy 6:3-5 "If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain." - Makarios |

3659 | Significance of our prayers? | Rev 5:8 | Makarios | 9224
Dear load, Steve provided some very studious and conscientious answers here! I would only add that our prayer life and daily dwelling upon Scripture are the two 'wings' that give our Spiritual lives 'flight'! We cannot even get off the ground if we are not in God's Word, and we cannot hope to 'catch the wind' if we are not in constant communication (through prayer) with our Lord and Savior! The Bible is filled with prayer and the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective (James 5:16).. We cannot even fathom exactly what happens in the 'spiritual realm', and little do we know that our prayers have a direct impact on that 'spiritual realm'. I am also a firm believer that whatever happens in the spiritual realm has an effect on what happens around us. So therefore, we must pray! And prayer is very important! Nolan |
