21 | No Joyce Meyer?????????????????? | Acts 17:11 | Jesified | 72097
You know, I didn't think about that not being a reaction. I just played it off the cuff and it didn't occur to me, however, they still do remain and opposite. I didn't examine what I said before I said it. It was, in fact, a horrible analogy, but it’s the only part of my post that I shall “repent about” as you suggested. Funny it should come under Acts 17:11's listings. Anyway, I can see that I have to explain much of what I said after that. First of all, Satan has some legal rights (let me explain before you shut me down). When Satan fell from Heaven where did he fall? The answer is to the earth as we see in Job 1:7. “And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” Jesus called him the prince of this world 3 times. John 12:31, John 14:30, and John 16:11 ”Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.” ”Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.” Also, when Satan tempted Jesus in the desert, Satan offered Him all the kingdoms of this world. “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:10) If Satan didn’t own those kingdoms then it wouldn’t actually be a temptation and the Bible would be falsely representing what actually happened. I’m not saying that God is not sovereign. Sovereignty doesn’t mean that God DOES what ever He wants, it means He CAN DO whatever He wants. He doesn’t want us to go to Hell. He has the power to stop us, but he allows us to live by the decisions we make. God is sovereign over all creation and with that He gave us free will. We must choose to follow God or the prince of this world. God has the power to do whatever He wants to on earth but there are many things that we have to ask Him to do because Satan has influence. God keeps the earth turning and feeds the plants and wild animals, but Satan hands out sickness and disease. (Luke 13:16, Acts 10:38) Did you, the creation (as you put it) have to ask God to forgive you of your sins? Since I'm fairly sure you answered yes, then you are requesting of the creator which is all I said when I said faith activates God. Do you think that God wants everyone to go to Heaven? Of course, that’s why Jesus died. However, we know through numerous passages in the Bible that everyone won’t go to Heaven. God is sovereign and could just make us all go to heaven, but then He would be contradicting what Jesus said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just putting us in Heaven would mean that we didn’t have to believe. However, since we have to believe, or have faith, in the fact that God can remove our sins and that He can open the gates of Heaven to us then we are activating something in the creator. Jesified |

22 | Must Christ have had a human nature? | Phil 2:7 | Jesified | 72095
Ahh, the exciting world of the language barrier. Yes, I probably was using the NIV. I usually use that, The King James, or The Amplified. We need to think of Jesus as a man because He was the link between God and man. This is represented in the 4 creatures found in Revelation 4:6-9. For seems to be the number of redemption and these 4 creatures all correspond with an aspect or name of Christ. Also, I believe they all correspond with how Christ is depicted in each of the gospels, but I can't find my notes on that. 1. Lion -Lion of Judah, power, He is a king 2. Calf -Servant of Man, sacrifice, died for our sins 3. Man -Son of Man, interceder, represents man to God 4. Eagle, Son of God, highest heavenly being, represents God to man Also, Jesus is our example. He kept the Law perfectly. Him being perfect in His humanity, being without sin, is how He was blameless and with out blemish, thus a worthy sacrifice. I enjoy the opportunity to give my input just as much as you welcome it. I'd love to talk more and help you in your quest for the truth. You seem well educated in the word. Jesified |

23 | Divine Healing? | Matthew | Jesified | 72091
Debbie, God may use us in our sickness, disease, poverty, etc. to touch the lives of others, but that doesn't mean that He's the one who made us that way. I knew a girl who had terrible heart troubles and out of her being in and out of a certain hospital, she got to know some people and plant some seeds. She over came the odds and now her transplanted heart is working as good as mine (with which there has never been any medical problems). But God didn't give her the heart condition so she could touch those people, not one place in the Bible does it say that God gave someone a sickness to do the work of the ministry. God used the fact that she had a heart condition and was in that hospital interacting with those people. God didn't look down from Heaven one day and say, "I'm going to make sister so and so sick so they can be a good witness to Dr. Whoever." On the contrary, it probably went more like this, "Sister so and so is in the hospital under the care of Dr. Whoever. Her family is asking me to guide the hands of the doctors and nurses, so I'll do that. I know she will tell Dr. Whoever that the LORD has healed her." Do you see the difference? I don't know where people get the idea that we were given sickness to fulfill something. It certainly isn't in the Bible. Also, if God put sickness on us for a reason, then why would Jesus go around undoing all the Father's work? To which verse in 2 Cor 1 are you referring? Jesified |

John, I grew up equally Catholic and heathen and was later saved in a Pentecostal service. Now I only call myself a follower of Christ and choose to avoid a denominational tag whenever I can due to the many misconceptions of what Pentecostal and Full-Gospel believers actually believe. Either way, some of what I wanted to say earlier came to me, so here’s some more food for thought and/or study. A lack of faith is not always what keeps people in sickness. Many times it's faith in the wrong things. If you have faith in God that He has the ability to heal you and know that Jesus already paid for our healing as well as our sins then I don't know why you wouldn't be healed. There are other variables, but they need to be examined case to case. One of the biggest problems is that people believe their own symptoms more than God. I have heard many stories where people did not receive healing because they were told, “Rise up and walk.” And they said, “But I can't walk.” And with that attitude they're right. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God in Him (referring to Christ) are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” Healing was promised to us under the Old Covenant (Exodus 15:26) and we are now in the New Covenant, a better Covenant founded on better promises (Hebrews 8:6). So if Old Covenant people were able to be healed then New Covenant people are definitely able to be healed. Sorry, got of on a tangent there, but it’s all His word so it’s all good. Where was I? Too many people say, “When brother so and so lays hands on me I’ll be healed.” That’s true if they’re looking to God to heal them and not brother so and so. However, as humans we tend to exalt things that ought not be exalted and we begin to confuse big time preachers in with Christ Himself which is idolatry. All it took was for Moses to take a little more time than expected to come back down the mountain and the Israelites lost hope and started making idols (Exodus 32:4). I’ve sighed and shook my head while looking through Musician’s Friend magazine because there’s a T-shirt reading something like “Axe of the Gods” and it has a picture of Jimmy Hendrix playing a ’69 Stratocaster or something. The sin nature in man when not under control can very easily exalt anyone. Look at Luke 11:27-28, a woman began exalting Mary. Also Acts 14:10 is a good example. My point is although Mary or Billy Graham had a divine call on her life they are not to be looked to for help, only as a channel through which the help may come. I’d love to continue our discussion. I have some brushing up to do on healing also. In responding to your post I found myself fumbling through my notes saying, “It’s here somewhere.” And, “what was that scripture reference again?” If you’d like to do so outside of the forum you can e-mail me at greatsantero@aol.com. 25 | No Joyce Meyer?????????????????? | Acts 17:11 | Jesified | 72067
As the world of science teaches, for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. Though this is in referance to the natural world, the same holds true for the spiritual realm. For sin there is atonement. For Heaven (an eternity with God) there is Hell (eternity with out God). For faith we have fear. Faith activates God, however fear activates the devil. That is the lesson that everyone misses from Job. Why was Job offering the sacrifices for his children in the beginning? read Job 1:1-5. The answer is found in verse 5 "When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom." -Job 1:5 As you can see Job wasn't sure if his children had sinned, but just in case that maybe they did, he made offerings to God. The other fact that people miss is that God didn't CAUSE Job to suffer, he ALLOWED it. Look at the times where Satan asks God to strike Job (Job 1:11, for one), God doesn't. In effect, He tells Satan, "Why don't you do it?" If we keep reading you'll see that it was during one of his sons' feasts that messengers came telling Job of what was happening to him. Why is this? Because that was when Job was afraid. Fear gives Satan the legal right to carry out the acts which you are afraid of just like faith gives God the right to carry out what we have faith for. I'll probably regret saying something because I get jumped on everytime I say ANYTHING about healing or prosperity. People want a simple answer for a complex question and it doesn't work like that. Plus, too many people have been fed misrepresented teaching on healing and prosperity. However, I would that you not be ingorant. Healing is for everyone. Jesus healed everyone that believed and needed healing. He didn't refuse one person. He also did only the will of the Father (John 5:30) which would have had to have included healing seeing that He healed people. Paul wasn't sick his "thorn in the flesh" was a phrase that was common in that culture meaning something more like he had a "pain in the neck" or that something was constantly nagging him. Read on in 2 Corinthians 12, after he says he has a thorn in the flesh he talks about how he is persecuted and in distress for Christ's sake. If you ask me, Paul is talking about the Jews who would move from town to town after him and stir the people up against him. Also, I would suggest reading the book of Acts where it documents Paul's journey and shows that the Jews persecuted him as he once persecuted believers. Finally, you're exactly right, not every Spirit-filled believer has the gifts of healings as stated in 1 Corinthians 12:11. However, the gifts of healings doesn't have to be present for healing. I was recently healed of a nagging pain in my knee and foot while discussing healing scriptures over the phone with my mother. No one laid hands on me and I didn't even realize I was healed until I hung up the phone and went to get something to eat. What kind of God wants His children to suffer? Is God abusive or sadistic? Of course not. Then why should He not want us to be healed? If you would like more information on healing I would suggest checking out Christ the Healer by F.F. Bosworth. I don't know anyone who's read it and not had their questions answered. I know some one who keeps extra copies around because he's giving them away so often. It'll really be a blessing. Jesified |

I had to reply to this post. I know tons of ministers on tv and radio that are excellent and entirely Biblical (what I've heard of them anyway), however, you'll ALWAYS encounter some kind of resistance when speaking about big name preachers. Jesus was the Son of God, who's ministry was more important than His? Yet still there were those who opposed Him. I assure you that I am a student of the word not only in my private devotional time, but I am currently in school becoming a pastor. I urge you to do as the Bereans did in Acts 17:11 and check everything against scripture. As for the list of preachers: Oral Roberts, Richard Roberts, Kenneth E. Hagin, Kenneth Hagin Jr., Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Joyce Meyer, John Hagee, Jesse Duplantis, Jerry Seville, Creflo and Taffy Dollar, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Marlyn Hickey, Chuck Swindall, Billy Joe and Sharon Dogherty, Eastman Curtis, Benny Hin, Mark Sharona, and Billy Grahm (i'm sure his son's and grandsons are ok too, but I've never heard them). I know there are probably more that I can't think of, but I'm sure that you'll be able to find someone. Also, I tend to stay away from ministers that are critical of other ministers. It's one thing to have constructive criticism, but when names are mentioned or it is made obvious who the person is than that is slander which is no more Biblical than wrong teaching. Always check what you've heard with the Bible because it is the word of God and even big time ministers can miss in now and then. I hope my information could be of some help to you and that you find a good ministry that will bless you in your spiritual growth. Jesified |

Well, Jesus said that He only does the will of the Father (John 5:30) If all He does is God's will then it is logical that whatever He does is God's will. When He healed people in the scriptures I mentioned several posts ago many of them say, "..and He healed all.." and gave a condition of the sickness ie "..and He healed all that were sick." (Matthew 6:18) Now if God healed all back then and He doesn't change (Malachi 3:6) then He will heal all now. Examine what Matthew 8:17 says about Isaiah 53:4-5. Matthew 8:16-17 "When the even was come, they brought unto Him many that were possessed with devils: and He cast out the spirits with His word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmites and bare our sickness." To say that I have taken Isaiah 53:4-5 out of context is to say that the Holy Spirit through Matthew has also taken them out of context. How 'bout Exodous 15:26 "...I am the LORD that healeth thee." That tell us God's will for healing. Jesified |

John Reformed, You asked "How you counsel people who pray for healing for someone but do not receive it." Well, I'm going to be honest with you up front. I'm only a student on his way to becoming a pastor, but I know enough to answer your question because I have wondered the same thing. Let's say that a woman prayed for her 10-year-old boy who was hit by a car. First, why was he hit by the car? It's because mankind was cast out of Eden into a fallen world. Bad things will happen because this world is not perfect. As I explained in my last post, Jesus came to heal people. Read Isaiah 53:4-5. The same blood that was poured out for our sins was poured out for our healing also. Peter references this verse in 1 Peter 2:24 as does Matthew in Matthew 8:17. So we know that God is willing to heal and able to heal. Now we must ask, “Why don’t we receive what we pray for?” There are several potential reasons: 1) Lack of faith. In Mark 6:1-6 Jesus couldn’t heal people because they didn’t have faith in him. We notice the story of the centurion in Matthew 8:10, the woman with the issue of blood in Matthew 9:22, and the woman of Canaan in Matthew 15:28 all received what they came for because they had faith. 2) We don’t pray inline with the word of God. Nowhere in the Bible does it ever say that when you pray for healing that you should say, “If it be thy will heal so and so.” Only two places did Jesus ever tell us to pray that way. Actually, it’s two accounts of when He was in the garden praying the prayer of consecration. (Matthew 26:42 and Luke 11:2) James 5:14-15 tells us to pray the prayer of faith for the sick. There is no if in faith. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) So we can be out of line by being of little or no faith. I know there are still others, but none are coming to mind. If you still have questions I’ll be more than happy to do all I can to answer them. Jesified |

John Refomred, You requested proof texts of God's will to heal. Matthew 4:23-24, 8:14-17, 9:32-35, 10:1, 12:15, 14:14, 14:35-36, 15:30, 19:2 Luke 4:40, 5:15, 6:17, 9:11 In each of these incidents, Jesus healed. The only place in the Bible that we find where Jesus was not able to heal was in His home town, which is very easy to explain why when we look at the context. Mark 6:1-6 "And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching" Notice verse 6 where it says "he marvled at their unbeleif." This is why He couldn't heal them; they wouldn't let Him, so He began to resolve the issue by teaching. "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17) Jesus taught so that they might hear and have faith to be healed. As for you second question, I may exceed the total 5000 charactor limit, so I'll answer that one in a subsequent post. 31 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Jesified | 67669
I apologize for not being 100 percent clear. Let me clarify what I've been saying because I know that this post was directed right at me. 1. Jesus was prosperous, not rich. He had the resources to provide for Himself and those around Him. However, it's not even remotely practical to think that He came down here and lived a lavish lifestyle when He could live comfortably and give to the poor. He had compassion on people (see Matthew 14:14, 15:32, 18:33). If Jesus had compasson but ignored the poor then how could John write verse 1 John 3:17? It doesn't click. Anyway, Jesus lived comfortably and gave to the poor. 2. Judas and Matthew were disciples, not stockbrokers, not inside contacts, disciples. Judas was in charge of the money, you can't deny that it says it in John 12:6. I recommend reading multiple translations of that verse because the KJV isn't as direct and obvious as most of the others. 3. Jesus had a house. The Bible doesn't say that Jesus had a mansion. If He did, which I highly doubt, He probably would have let the homeless stay in one of His 20 spare rooms and given them a chariot or two. Maybe even let them take one of those TVs when they felt they were ready to go out on their own. 4. Ok, the maybe the robe was valuable to the soldiers because they were poor. The point is not that it was gold plated and diamond encrusted, because it obviously wasn't. Isaiah 53:2 (best rendered in NIV) says that Jesus would look like your average Jew. I would say that His clothing would be part of His appearance, and lavish clothing would attract people. You can get a nice shirt at Wal-Mart for cheap (please don't assume that I'm saying Jesus shopped at Wal-Mart it's the principle that I'm trying to convey). I'm simply stating that Jesus did not wear a pauper's rags, but I'm not saying that He wore a golden raiment full of diamonds, rubies, and pearls. 5. In didn't say that God was abusing us by LETTING children become sick. I said God WOULD be guilty of child abuse (abusing us, His children) if He were the one who placed sickness and disease on us, which He doesn't for ANY reason. Your father is exactly right, anyone either clever or stupid enough can twist the Bible to mean whatever they want. However, you will see where the lies are when it comes to consistancy. If an interpretation is inconsistant, then either the circumstances of the two or more situations are different, or the interpretation is wrong. I honestly don't mean to argue. I just believe strongly in some of these truths. There's a saying, and I'm not sure where it comes from, but it reads, "When fishermen aren't fishing they're fighting." I take that to mean that if we become so focused on doctrine and principles we can forget that there's a world out there waiting to hear the gospel. With this in mind I advise everyone to search the Bible for their answers and to give them with love, keeping in mind that the purpose of this site is to ask and answer Bible questions. It is not a place for us to bicker and fight over our beleifs as many of us, myself included, are guilty of. I suggest that we each present what we believe to be the truth and if clarification is needed, or if you have a different view, then provide it. Let's try to concentrait more on what we agree with than what we don't, and put petty disputes behind us. Honestly, if Jesus was prosperous or poor, He still died for us. I think we need to keep our focus on Christ and the power of His perfect blood that redeemed us, not on arguing over technicalities. Jesified |

32 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Jesified | 67648
Jesus did. Read Luke 4:14-21. The reference to which Jesus is referring is in Isaiah 61:1-2. Jesus stops reading half-way through the 2nd verse because it wasn't time for the other half yet. Also, we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word. So when you hear the word of God pertaining to salvation preached it builds your faith to be saved. Likewise, when you hear the word of God concerning healing your faith for healing is built up. You've got to hear what God's word says on the matter, have faith or believe that He is willing and able to change your circumstances (be it for salvation or healing) and pray asking God for either your healing or to save your soul. To say that both must be instantaneous at the moment of beleif would say that the preacher gave a message embracing both spiritual and physical healing. And that the individual believed both truths at the same time. That's not uncommon. The problem is that most times the sermon is only on physical healing or only on spiritual healing and you're asking that we get (pardon the crudity of my expression) a strawberry-kiwi flavor out of just using strawberry juice or just using kiwi juice. 34 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Jesified | 67643
The point I was getting at is that the FACTS of health and wealth are ignored. Yes, the idea of it is preached everywhere, unfortunately, that has resulted in people moving from one extreme to the other. In the 40's and 50's, it was the commonly held opinion that God wanted His people poor to teach them humility. That was eventually further perverted into the idea that God uses sickness to teach us lessons. If either of these were actually true then God would be guilty of child abuse. Now, churches have taken it to the other extreme. It's common place to think that God will supply every lust of the flesh. Although God will supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19) and even the desires of our heart (Psalms 37:4) we must remember that these needs and desires must be in line with God's word. For example, a cocaine addict needs cocaine, but God won't supply drugs to them because it harms them. Also, if the desire of you heart is a particular someone, He won't over-ride their free will just to satisfy the desire of you heart (which is more acurately lust). The scripture says to delight yourself in the Lord and the context is supporting the idea that you've got His word in your heart. When you've got God's word in your heart governing your thoughts and desires, unless you open the door to other desires, you don't even want something outside of the will of God. Jesified |

35 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Jesified | 67641
First, I'd like to get a few misconceptions out of the way. I didn't mean to imply that all of the money that Jesus spent during His earthly ministry was all there in one lump sum. It may have been, but I don't think so and I don't believe that the Bible specifies that. Actually, with money constantly going in and out Judas would have a much easier time embezzeling. (by the way I found the reference for when Judas embezzeled it's John 12:6) I only said that it was Judas' only job because I haven't seen anywhere else in the scriptures where Judas was handling any other task, but that's really a minor detail. Second, when did Jesus become poor? Couldn't be at birth because as Matthew 2:11 says, He was given gold, frankinsence and myrrh, which were expensive gifts. You're right Jesus BECAME poor, but that wasn't until the cross when everything was taken everything from Him and the sins of the entire world were placed on Him. Also, think about Jesus' vesture. In three gospels, it says that the Roman soldiers cast lots for His vesture. Now, if the Roman's did not believe there to be anything special about Jesus, why would they want His vesture? The only logical conclusion that I come to is that it was a pretty nice article of clothing. With that in mind, where would a poor man get the money to buy nice clothes? Would Jesus have lived in poverity and spent the money it would have taken to have nice clothes? Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say that Jesus wore the Armani of His time. Somewhere it says that there would be nothing about His appearance that would attract us to Him, so they probably weren't lavish garments. However, they were probably well made garments that looked nice, not the rags of a pauper. Matthew 8:20 doesn't say that Jesus was homeless, it means that the ministry of Jesus was on the move. If it said that He was homeless then it would contradict the list of scriptures and translations following this that say He, in fact, did have a house. Matthew 4:12-13 (NIV) He lived in Capernaum. Matthew 9:1 (NIV) Jesus came to His own town. How do you have a home town if you don't have a home? Mark 2:1(NIV) Jesus came home. Again, how do you come home if you dont' have a home? The Williams and Wuest translations of these three verses also support the fact that Jesus did have a home. You're exactly right, we don't deserve anything but eternal damnation. But what about Psalm 103:10? It says that God doesn't give us what we deserve, that's mercy. Then you have to ask yourself, what's grace? Grace is God giving us what we don't deserve (ie salvation, healing, the means to supply our needs). I'm not saying that Jesus lived an extravagant lifestyle, but I am saying that His needs and the needs of those around Him were met. Jesified |

Also, the Bible contains prophecy. Though I have never read the quoran or anything about Buddhism, I have heard people preach on the differences and that's the main one that sticks in my mind. Buddah doesn't know the future, but God does and He gave and still gives vital information to His people through prophets and their prophecy. Jesified |

37 | Why not Brothers? | 1 Cor 11:3 | Jesified | 67627
Exactly!! Also, since Jesus could not be corrupted by sin or sin nature He had to be born of a woman. The sin nature of man was passed from Adam to all of us through the blood line. Now, when a baby is being formed in it's mother's womb, the chromosomes of it's parents decide everything about it. This is so cool, don't miss this next point. The blood type is decided by the father's chromosomes. Therefore, Jesus had to be the Son of God to inherit His Father's blood line. This blood line was not corrupted by sin because there is no sin in God. Thus, the power of Jesus Christ that washes away sins and heals disease is found in the only completely pure and innocent blood ever on earth and that is the blood of God Himself. I just preached myself happy!! I hope this blesses you as much as it did me to type it. Jesified |

38 | i want a in depth answer on romans 8:28 | Rom 8:28 | Jesified | 67625
My bad, I was mixing John 3:16 with 2 Peter 3:9, I'm glad that someone caught that. They are often quoted together in my church and I did't realize what I typed. I don't believe God to be supersticious and cross his fingers. However, if God did not intend for ALL of mankind to be redeemed then why were ALL the sins of the world put on Jesus? God is all knowing, why wouldn't he just put the sins of the people who would come to repentance? It's because Jesus did not die for only the Jews, or for only those who would believe in Him. God so loved the WORLD (John 3:16, that reference is right this time), not just the decentants of Abraham (both geneological and spiritual). To tell you the truth, I really don't know what to think of Romans 9. But I do know that God is love and that love does not divide by race or position. Pharoah's heart was probably not hardened because he was Egyptian or because he ruled over the Israelites. My best guess is that Pharoah was acting like the brother of the prodigal son. What I mean is Pharoah was probably thinking too highly of himself and jealosy and hatred for the Israelites, whom he more than likely considered lower than him, was welling up in his heart because he did not have even the most remote sense of love for them. As seen in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, you can do the most nobel and spiritual acts, but with out love they are nothing. How much emptier is an act that is neither nobel nor spiritual and has not love? BradK, I'm sorry, I phrased that the wrong way. I didn't mean to say that the words are interpreted from the Greek wrong, I meant that the meaning itself is misinterpreted. "Thorn in the flesh" is Hebrew slang. As you know, slang can't be interpreted literally. If the shoe were on the other foot, Paul would probably have a difficult time interpreting some of our sayings. For example, "We were chilling in my crib." Now as a 19-year-old I interpret that as, "We were fellowshipping at my house." But if Paul, or even my grandfather, were to try to interpret that literally they would think that we were in low temperature where I used to sleep as a baby. As you can see, the point that I intended to convey is lost when it's meaning is not properly interpreted. I believe that is the case with 2 Corinthians 12:7-9. Jesified |

I think that you're exactly right when you say that us as Christians glorify God through giving to the poor. I'd love to see the world without poverty though. I don't think God wants anyone to suffer lack, the problem is that so often, our theology is so far of to one extremity or the other that we miss the basic point. God does not want His children to suffer a lack, the fact that there are poor among us just shows how we as Christians get too concerned with other things and forget to preach the gospel and love our neighbor. For example, in the Dark Ages, the Church of the was so concerned with protecting it's doctrine that not one missionary was sent out. It's sad to think of the number of souls that were lost due to the Church's preoccupation with technicalities and lack of love. Jesified |
