63 | Correcting the translation | Col 2:16 | Jensen | 28420
Wasting of time is unbecoming of a Christian. Vanity is unbecoming of a Christian. Pride comes just before the fall my friend. All this and still no point! Bring on the Teaching Magisterium to end the confusion :-) Happy New Year....and God Bless...Jensen |

65 | Was Paul Eloquent? | Ex 4:10 | Jensen | 27069
The question was on Paul...Not Moses... This is a nice exposition but has nothing to do with the eloquence of Paul. Why not just say that many Bible teachers say stupid, unfouded, unsubstantiated things. :) The fact is that the teacher mentioned does not know. He may have heard it on TBN late some night. The fact that Paul was educated does not mean that he was eloquent. You may want to look up the definition. You have also directly quoted from a source without giving credit to the source. I can tell because I have read some of your other posts. Give credit where credit is due...I'm sure it was just an oversight :-) God Bless....Jensen |

66 | Are Christmas and Easter pagan? | Gal 4:10 | Jensen | 27063
Dear Glende...Welcome to the Forum :)....Christians celebrate Christmas to remember and give special significance to our Redeemers birth. Non-Christians, that is non-believers, celebrate the holiday as a time joy and peace on Earth. They do not acknowledge the reason for the season. Christians took over and defeated a pagan holiday by instituting a Christian holiday. It may be becoming more and more pagan, but not to Christians. The same holds true for Easter. You wrote..."Seems like the devils crowed has more guts in this area than christians." but concern yourself with yourself and your attitude at this time of year. Be happy for the correct reason, not sad for the wrong reason. We know how the story ends. What you correctly observe is the storyline leading to His coming. Praise be to God. God Bless....Jensen |

67 | How did Nephilims come into existance? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 26962
Dear Thomas....You wrote..."I believe this scripture leads me to believe that Satans fallen angels had relations with mortal women"...While you may believe that this scripture leads you to believe...Nonetheless, there is no such proof. Furthermore, you may be watching too much TBN :-)This is the kind of carp they spread. God Bless....Jensen |

68 | Correcting the translation | Col 2:16 | Jensen | 26078
Dear djconklin....I have been following this thread with some amusement and I believe that 100 of 121 posts (as of 12/8/01) that deal with a single verse is a lost cause. You may know the technicalities of this verse so well that you have unlearned the clear teaching of most of the other verses. I do not mean this as an attack at all. But you are so hung up on this verse, I believe because you are realizing that all of your work on it has come to naught, that you keep beating the drum as well as around the bush. Good people at this site have asked simple questions of clarification yet you answer as if you did not read their questions at all. Like a politician :-) The fact that you have a (vanity) web page does not give you the last word. Anyone can have a web page and say anything, truth or fiction. It was a lot of work to do. But what is the point? God Bless....Jensen |

69 | When did the catholic church go wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 26070
Dear Emmaus.........With all due respect indeed.....but the doctrine is Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." If the first Pope taught through his actions that there was indeed a difference between Jew and Greek, that would be doctrinal. The doctrine of the seperation of Jew from everyone else. Would it not? 70 | unaffordable annulllment-How to? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 22809
Dear Tim...I agree with most of what you wrote... You wrote... "There is an alternative translation which goes like this ......She does not become GUILTY of adultery but the INNOCENT PARTY of adultery if you will." ....but that is the way I understood the passage so that I'm not sure of what you mean by "alternative translation", unless you meant the word(s) themselves. But I understand that divorce under those circumstances was devastating for women. But the more important devestation was a sin against the law. Nothing has changed, except that the social status, the secondary devestation if you will, has lessened for women in Post-Christian America. But the sin is still paramount. You wrote... "Do we forbid him from re-marrying? I know preachers who would indeed do this but on what scriptural authority I do not know." ....but you gave the Sciptural authority above (Mt 5:32) so I mis-understand your point. But it may be related to an annulement which, as you know, is a judicial pronouncement declaring a marriage invalid. The "judge" is the church. The church relys on Scripture, not on the ever changing socio-economic status of believers. Divorce should be difficult. Half of the people in our churches have been divorced, the same percentage as the general population of unbelievers. How then are we to be different from the population of non-believers if not to make the desolution of a marriage vow Scriptural? We can't go by popular acceptance of the fact. My mom would always ask me "Would you jump off a bridge just because everyone else did" to illustrate how we must sometimes act independent of the herd. As Christians must act. Please do not think I judge divorce to be beyond the pale. I, like you, think that divorce should not happen in a Bible believing Christian home. But when it does, it should be by an annulument of His church, not our secular courts, which is of secondary importance. On this issue, the Roman Church has it right :-) God Bless....Jensen |

71 | unaffordable annulllment-How to? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 22611
Dear Tim...Your answer sounds like an answer "from a Catholic"....or Ex-Catholic :-) Please do not be a stumbling block. You may rationalize all you want but the Bible is clear. If you were not a Christian when you were married then it should not matter, what matters is if you were a Christian when married and went against the words of Jesus to receive a divorce. If free consent is lacking a marriage may be declared null and void. The remarriage of persons divorced from a living, lawful spouse controvenes the plan and the law of God as taught by Christ. There is no gray area here. It is very Biblical and should be taken very seriously. The Catholic Church did not put words in the mouth of Jesus. It is sad that many Protestant Churches do. Irreconcilabe differences indeed! None the less, Christians who divorce are not seperated from His church and should/must still live a Christian life. If you were married in the presence of God, in His church, you are obligated to keep His commands as surly as those in Exodus 20. If you have to choose between what some Christians say about divorce and what Jesus said Himself, then you put your faith in the wrong position. There simply is no choice. Like it or not. :-) God Bless....Jensen |

72 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Jensen | 22041
You wrote to ask... "So here is the real issue at hand - should we be disqualified from leadership because we have given more to the Lord at ABC Ministry and less to the Lord at the local church?" ...and I would like to offer my view. I do not tithe. I give money (Time and Talent also) to bring people closer to our Lord; believers and non-believers alike. I know that when I expend my resources I am blessed beyond my understanding. It feels real good! And I learn so much about my own walk with our Lord that I wonder. Do I do this for others or for myself? I am a cheerful giver. And at the same time I have become a leader in my own right, by His image. If it were insisted that I pay the membership fee of a "local" church, I would most certainly be unable to do what I do with my remaining offering. Yet everyone agrees that I provide a good study of the first 11 chapters of the Bible from a scientific point of view. It is evangelistic but also serves to strenghten belief in the Bible as it is written. So what to do? :-) Am I called to church leadership? Hardly. Am I called to be a leader in His church. Cheerfully!! God Bless....Jensen |

74 | What was/is a temple prostitute? | Gen 38:21 | Jensen | 21244
Dear EdB...Thanks for your answer. I still have some confusion that I know you can address. It is my understanding, according to your post, that temple prostitutes were common to several religions. (They even exist today in certain sects located in California.) My concern is only with the kingdoms of Israel and/or Judah. 1)Your answer seems to indicate that Israel did not employ (no pun) temple prostitutes. But Hosea seems to indicate that Israel did utilize them. If you can clear this point up I would be grateful. 2)Do you know if the prostitutes worked for the temple directly. Did the temple or shrine play the same role as a modern day pimp? Did the temple keep all the money paid to the prostitute, and was there, to your knowledge, a part of the temple or temple grounds that was set aside for such service? 3) Were those who paid for the prostitute members of the same cult, or could anyone employ them with the proceeds going to the temple. (As an aside...There is a carnival set up on the grounds of a Christian church near where I live. Some of the prizes awarded include soft pornography and strong alcoholic drink. The proceeds from the carnival support the church. Curious!) God Bless....Jensen |

76 | Finding Mentoring Relationships? | Acts 18:26 | Jensen | 21208
Dear ONERICHWOMAN....Other mentoring relationships may be found between older and younger women, and also between women and children. Titus 2:3-5 "Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." Prov 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." I can not offer advice on your concordance search but you may want to invest in a Topical Analysis of the Bible. Mine is by Elwell and is published by Baker. God Bless....Jensen |

77 | Contrary View........ | Gen 2:2 | Jensen | 20757
You wrote concering Gen 2:4..... "This verse would have been a better verse at which to start chapter two." GE 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. .....is an introductory sentence and a beautiful transitional verse. In my opinion, it summarizes the foundation set in Chapter 1. I agree that there are questionable chapter breaks in the Bible, from a literary point of view, but this is not one of them. The question "Doesn't chapter 2 tell of a different creation order than told in Chapter 1" is asked due to a misunderstanding of the focus of the individual chapters. One being on the succesive creation events, and the other on man's place in the creation. God Bless....Jensen |

78 | Did Jesus have to die? | NT general Archive 1 | Jensen | 20636
Dear REVbuf...These verses would seem to indicate so... RO 5:9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. ....unless you need something else. Like... Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. or maybe.... Heb 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. ....there may be more. God Bless....Jensen |
