“Since we were all in their genes, we all fell and are part of that sinful nature. It is born in us all.” Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge??? Did you ever wonder if that was like putting a 10 year old in a candy store alone and telling them not to eat any of it? It is quite interesting that two cavemen damned the whole human race. Everyone who followed had no chance. God also let a fallen angel lose on the earth to help this happen. Remember that the angels, even the fallen ones are far superior to humans. What chance did God give us? Then years later, God who could no longer stand the wicked ways of man, sent a flood to wipe them old, save for the family of Noah. What was the first thing Noah did when the floodwaters subsided. He grew a vineyard and got so drunk that he didn’t know what his son was doing to him. Genesis 9 20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. 24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. For those that do not know what is meant by this, may Leviticus 18:7-19 will help. 7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 8 The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness. 9 The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. 10 The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. 11 The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 12 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman. 13 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman. 14 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. 15 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 16 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. 17 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness. 18 Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time. 19 Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. So to what do I owe this God that condemned me so long ago? |

My apologies on sounding angry, I guess that it stems from these discussions. One minute a Christian is telling me that I am damned to hell because the bible says, very clearly and in plain language, that if you don’t do this or don’t believe that you are damned to hell. Then I say, well that bible says this too. And then I get the, “That’s not what it meant.” Or the, “So and so was speaking metaphorically.” And I end up not getting a straight answer. I became atheists after years of this type of debate, discussion, or teachings, however you wish to describe it. After finding some many question in the bible and in the way God’s followers act. I still go to church because there are some good lessons about life to be learned. Do until others and be a good Sumerian and the like, but I noticed that the stories of how to keep slaves and kill the unrighteous and the like are never taught. So, in my mind, if that part of the bible is no longer applicable then how’s the rest of it? If God as not been seen in nearly 2000 years, physically speaking or with proof. You may claim that through God’s grace, the Smart girl was returned to her family. Then I must ask, was it for a lack of grace, or a lack of faith that she was taken in the first place? I have the most difficult time believing that all of man fell from grace because of two cavemen not listening. The day that I became an atheist, it felt like the weight of the world was taken off of my shoulders. I realized that I have only failed myself and that I can fix that. I didn’t anger a god that was sitting there waiting to pronounce eternity in hell for my mistakes. The only reason that I am writing to this forum is that I hope that if there is truly a God that cares about us, that he will show himself to me in a way that I will understand. |

“How about proof? Have you ever personally meet me? Yet, you don't doubt that I exist! Why not? Have you ever physically seen me, even in a photograph? Yet, you don't doubt that I exist! “ To answer this is simply, you are answering my specific questions with specific answers, whether either one of us likes the others writing is beside the point. The other reason that I believe you exist is that I don’t believe that we have created an AI that is good enough to answer my questions. Lastly on this, I have never seen one million dollars either, but I have seen the progression up to it. “God does not ‘condone’ either one, but provides guidelines to protect the innocent.” Exodus 21 does not sound to me like it protects the innocent at all. 1 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them. 2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. 3 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. 4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself. 5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: This poor servant/slave love a wife for 6 years and now he must leave her to be free! Kids too!! “I don't say these things to be rude, and I hope that they are taken in that manner.” I don’t, I feel that you believe that you are trying to save my soul, which is very kind. I just don’t see things the same way as you and if god understands me and my type, maybe he will show himself so that we can be saved too. |

Hank, You cannot prove the the existance of one thing by showing that something else is, to you, difficult to explain. I can see radio wave on a scope! I can build a transmitter and send radio waves to the reciever. Try to restrict your answers, to me anyways, to logic. Because you or I cannot explain something does not make it devine! Thank you, |

I thought that I was using this site as a bible study, I am trying to determine if there is God and if the Christian Bible is really the word of god. If that is an attack, then I apologize, it was not meant as such. Your postings seem to me to be somewhat illogical and frankly very little help to me. If that is taken as an attack then I again apologize. Hurting people’s feelings was not my intent either. I am studying the bible and as this the title of this forum suggests the Old Testament is giving me trouble too. Did Noah take the animals two by two or did he take them two by two of the unclean and seven of the clean? Is slavery all right since the bible tells how it is to be conducted? “What precisely is your motive for posting here and interacting with Christians? “ You see Hank, with me being an Atheist, if I am wrong I burn forever. If on the other hand, you are wrong, then you just wasted an hour or so every Sunday. So you see, it means a lot more to me to try and find the truth. At least that is the way I look at it. |

Genesis 6 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. Sorry, I didn’t want to post anymore until I read the book, but… ”Concerning Gen. 6 and 7, this is one of those examples where I think that people hold Scripture to an unfair and illogical standard.” God inspires it so I would think that lends itself to be held to a higher standard. “If one account lists a certain amount of detail and then a later account gives greater, but not contradictory detail, where is the problem?” Matthew 27 3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. 7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. While in Acts 1 16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. 17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. One states that the priest bought the field and the other states that Judas bought the field. There are several more seemingly contradicting stories in the Bible and they are a stumbling block for me. ”No historical narrative can possibly give every possible detail of an event. Historians must pick and choose how much and what details to include. This is the case in Gen. 6. For some reason unknown to us, Moses only mentions the pairs in chapter six, but in chapter seven he expands the detail and includes the references to the clean and unclean.” There are studies that show that Moses didn’t write all that he was accredited with. They suggest that there were many authors. |

If you read in this thread you will see that I asked why Genesis 6 says "19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them." No mention of 7 pairs. Thank you, |

"But, back to Gen. 6 and 7." One account states 2 by 2 the next says 1 pair and 7 pairs. The numbers changed! This is not simply a change in detail level. And why would Moses put the same story back to back in the same book? Read further into Judas and tell me who bought the field? I believe that one of the major obstacle in studying religion and politics is that both sides have already prepared answers for their errors/inconsistencies. I have tried my best not to fall into this trap. Please believe me, I don’t hold it against you if you do not know the answers. My search is for me and people like me. I need more than faith. I need to know why this is this way and that is that way. Thank you very much for the attempt in helping me. |

Pastor, I see it as a contradiction because the level of detail in my opinion didn't change, the numbers did. Example: If Gen 6 said, Noah you will need a 110 outlet in the Ark. And then Gen 7 said, To put the 110 outlet in, You need 12-2 wire and oldwork box, the outlet and the cover. That to me is changing the level of detail, and as you pointed out, with 100 year span, I can understand that. My other question was: In the story of Judas, who bought Potter's Field? One story says that Judas through the money at the high priest and they bought the field with the money. The other says that Judas bought the field. Thank you for your help. |

Dear Tim, I am not sure that we are reading from the same Bible cause the KJV clearly states male and females in chapter 6. I will quote again! “Genesis 6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.” It also clearly states “TWO OF EVERY SORT” Genesis 7 1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. 2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by (sevens), the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by (two), the male and his female. 3 Of fowls also of the air by (sevens), the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. That is not a change in detail level that is a change to the details. “Concerning who bought the field, that one is also pretty easy. The priests could not accept the blood money back. So, they used it to buy the field of blood. It was still Judas' money they used, so they ((((probably)))) bought it in his name.” Pure speculation! And again the one verse states that Judas bought the field and the other clearly says that the high priest bought the field! It does not say that high priest bought the field in Judas’ name. I am sorry, but it sounds like to me that our conversation has come to an end. You are not making simply mistakes or saying that “to your understanding”, you appear not to even be reading the verses. |

Quote "(keep in mind, the biblical command against marrying close relatives was not given until thousands of years later during the time of Moses)" Then why was Cain punished for killing his brother? That commandment wasn't given until Moses was well. | ||||||
