1 | Cremation question simplified | Bible general Archive 1 | New Creature | 40827
Maybe my previous attemps to acquire an answer were hampered by making my question too difficult, so let me try to simplify my question. Question: Can anyone give me a Scriptural example of a godly person who chose cremation over burial? |

EdB My point is. If cremation is for the believer, why do I not find a single Bibical example of a godly person choosing cremation over burial. Most replys I have read in here concerning this topic say it does not matter whether one chooses cremation or burial. My contention is, what scriptural examples do we have for our practice as believers. I see evidence in Scripture that the godly preferred burial. So my next question would be, why burial and not cremation? |

I thought that would be your point. Again we focus on the physical and ignore the spiritual. Once were are dead we are done with our bodies. If we are in Christ we are at home with the Lord. Our bodies return to dust. How does that occur? By decomposition. What is decomposition? Oxidation. What is burning? Rapid oxidation. Same process faster scale. Many contend that in many funerals in Israel the body was packed with spices, place within a burial sepulchre and the whole thing was burned. I have read both pro and con of that point. So far I haven’t seen anything to convince me that was norm. However I do believe it must have happened often enough for the rumor of the practice to have lasted this long. I think we focus on the unimportant and lose sight of the real issue. Thousands are being buried or cremated each and every day without any chance of salvation. If we are in Christ what happens to our body should be the last thing we worry about (no pun intended). I certainly don’t want this old body! I’m looking for the my new body. Besides God has a full list of what I was made of so He can reproduce my body if need be. Ps139:16. If you want to make some funeral director rich, then by all means be buried. I myself have left instructions that when I go to be with the Lord they should cremate this old earth suit. EdB |

EdB I appreciate your comments on this topic. I just have been thinking about this lately and want to make sure I give my family proper instructions concerning either my burial or disposal. Do I want to become food for whatever creatures may feed upon my rotting flesh, or do I want to help starve them into extinction? Well enough of the kidding around, in all seriousness I want to be sure I honor God and seek His direction and will for my life AND PHYSICAL DEATH in everything I do.
