1 what is the river of water in Ezekiel 47 Matt 4:19 Searcher56 214748

God's day to you, Decole,

This may not be about the Holy Spirit and "spreading of the nets" is not about the "Apostles becoming fishers of men".

Look at the context the Temple in Ezekiel is the final one, not yet built.

The river is one formed when Christ returns (Zec 14:4, 8). Zechariah mentions a river going west, too.

Note the healing is because now the Dead Sea doen't allow much swimming.

Don't believe there is always a spiritual connection ... dig into the Scripture to see if they are right.

2 what is the river of water in Ezekiel 47 Matt 4:19 stjohn 214751
  Dear Searcher,

I gained my understanding of the "spreading of the nets" from reading commentates of trusted commentators.

John Gill has this to say:

v10 "that the fishers shall stand upon it;" upon the brink of the river, or the shore of the sea, whose waters will be healed by this river running into them. These "fishers" are the apostles of Christ, who, of fishermen, were made fishers of men by him; to whom he gave a call, and a commission, and gifts qualifying them to preach the Gospel; whereby they caught men, and brought them to Christ; and so were the instruments of saving them, even of great numbers, both in Judea, and in the Gentile world; of which some instances of their fishing, after their call to the ministry, were emblematical; Mt 4:18, likewise all other ministers of the Gospel are here meant, especially those that will be in the latter day; compared to fishers for the meanness and contemptibleness of their employment in the eyes of the world; for their labouriousness in it, and for their patient waiting for success therein; and for the bad weather, storms, and tempests, they are exposed unto, the reproach and persecution of men; and their being the happy means of drawing souls out of the abyss of sin and misery unto Christ, for life and salvation: and their "standing" upon the brink of the waters to catch fish may denote their constancy their work; their strict attachment to the doctrines of the Gospel, and their waiting for success in it.

3 what is the river of water in Ezekiel 47 Matt 4:19 Searcher56 214758

God's day to you, John,

Do not accept what anyone says/ writes at face value. I look at the context, Ezekiel 40-48, which includes the Mellinium Temple. Gill is forcing Scripture and doesn't make sense. The context includes Zechariah who also tells about the river, and it is reasonable to believe this is not what Gill says ... for this verse.

4 what is the river of water in Ezekiel 47 Matt 4:19 stjohn 214760
  Hi Searcher,

God's day to you too sir! :-)

I did read the context of the whole chapter, and Gill's commentary, but I don't see where he doesn't make sense. Actually I think he makes pretty good sense. I think too when we see in Scripture something that points to Christ and His ministry, including the original twelve and our own duty to follow His lead as fishers of men; I think it's a good bet that it's not far from the mark, and a plus! :-)
It looks to me too that he doesn't miss the reference to the Millennium or the Temple when he says: "likewise all other ministers of the Gospel are here meant, [especially those that will be in the latter day;]" -Gill

[Brackets] are mine for enfaces.

John
