Why in the King James version of the Bible, does the plural word form of "Heaven" is used?

However, in other version, the singular tense of the word is used?

So, what is the hebrew tense of the word "heaven" in Genesis 1:2?

  Word study ... Heaven(s) - Shamayim ......

Shamayim is the dual of the singular shameh, which is not in the Bible. It is translated heaven or heavens. I am not sure why.

Note the im ending is dual (plural) ... another example is El and Elohim, God.
