1 | What does honor mean to you? | Not Specified | xmikx | 135411
This is my first post, so please forgive if I am leaving out certain portocol for this site. I am looking for new and exciting ways to honor my wife. We are currently separated. In 1 Peter 3:7, it talks about honoring your wife or your prayers will not be heard (NLT). I would like women to tell me what you expect/deserve from your husband when it comes to honor. And guys, in what ways do you honor your wife?
2 | God's family, is there anything better? | Not Specified | xmikx | 138705
God's family, is there anything better than being a child of God? This is more of a rhetorical question, but please read the following, this is Romans 8:26-30 (NLT) and then tell everyone you know that we are all adopted children and it is the greatest feeling in the world!!! 26And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. 28And we know that God causes everything to work together[11] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. 30And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. Mike |

3 | Does God hear the prayers of the lost? | Not Specified | xmikx | 149199
Does the Bible mention God not hearing the prayers of the lost? I know He hears the prayer of salvation from the lost, but what about a lost person "praying" for her dad who is real sick with cancer? My wife and I are trying to witness to her friend. She is not yet saved, but is asking the "why" and "how come" questions that lead to the prayer of salvation. She says she is "praying", but I am not sure what the Bible says about prayer from someone who is not yet saved. Please provide scripture so we can show her. Then when she gets saved, her prayers for her dad will be heard and answered. Please and thank you. Mike |

4 | now there was a woman who had been suffe | Bible general Archive 2 | xmikx | 135449
She had suffered through something that no doctor or physician could even control let alone heal. She wanted to be healed. Verse 28 says,'because she thought, "if I could just touch his clothes, I will be healed." She had faith and was healed by her faith just from touching Jesus' cloak. So, the central truth and life application is when we have enough faith, God can do anything. We just have to have faith and honestly believe the; what seems in our eyes as impossible is proved to be very possible for God.
5 | what does it mean to fast | Bible general Archive 2 | xmikx | 137419
Hello srbaegon, while your answer is partially correct, fasting is not only going without food. Fasting is going without '____________' (fill in the blank) so that we are able to focus more intently on God and search His will for this part of our life. When we fast, we are able to "lean", if you will, more on God's power instead of our own to obtain the answers we are searching for from our Father in Heaven. Mike |

6 | what does it mean to fast | Bible general Archive 2 | xmikx | 137430
Hank, Perhaps a poor choice on my part. Allow me to try a do over... srbaegon's answer is correct. But fasting does not have to be limited to going without food and/or drink only. Fasting is usually associated as a means to obtain insight from God about a particular problem, concern or situation. We usually fast (and pray) when we are facing a rather difficult situation that requires God's input. One can fast from TV, radio, sex or other things so that the "time spent" doing these activities can be utilized and better spent focusing on a conversation with God to obtain the information we seek. I apologize for my poor choice of words. Mike |

9 | Can Satin read our minds?Chaser. | Bible general Archive 2 | xmikx | 138703
EdB, That was a great post! Most of us Christians do place the blame for our actions on Satan and his never ending temptations. But, when we actually get beat down enough that the only way to overcome this situation is by looking up. And then we finally turn to God for help. We sometimes turn to God as a last resort when He should be our first and only option to repent and overcome the sin in our lives. This is Romans 8:1-8 (NASB). It is very comforting to me: 1 Therefore there is now no (1) condemnation for those who are (2) in (3) Christ Jesus. 2 For (4) the law of the Spirit of life in (5) Christ Jesus (6) has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For (7) what the Law could not do, (8) weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in (9) the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the (10) requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who (11) do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on (12) the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, (13) the things of the Spirit. 6 (14) For the mind set on the flesh is (15) death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is (16) hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are (17) in the flesh cannot please God. 10 | Is "no" or "wait" prayer not answered | Ps 80:4 | xmikx | 135931
Hello romenile. I went to www.biblegateway.com and searched for answered prayers. I found the following information in the commentary (NLT) section for Psalm 80:4. This may not be the answer you are looking for, but it might shed some different light on your situation. He that dwelleth upon the mercy-seat, is the good Shepherd of his people. But we can neither expect the comfort of his love, nor the protection of his arm, unless we partake of his converting grace. If he is really angry at the prayers of his people, it is because, although they pray, their ends are not right, or there is some secret sin indulged in them, or he will try their patience and perseverance in prayer. When God is displeased with his people, we must expect to see them in tears, and their enemies in triumph. There is no salvation but from God's favour; there is no conversion to God but by his own grace. (Ps 80:8-16) |

11 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | xmikx | 136345
You may rest your case all you like and you have every right to do so. But, if you will read 1 Peter 2:24-25 with an open mind and not how you already perceive healing being provided in the atonement, it might show you something different. Here is 1 Peter 2:24-25 (NASB) 1 Peter 2 24 and He Himself (1) bore our sins in His body on the (2) cross, so that we (3) might die to sin and live to righteousness; for (4) by His wounds you were (5) healed. 25 For you were (6) continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the (7) Shepherd and Guardian of your souls. If you notice, the scripture says so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. Righteousness means without guilt or sin. That is what we gain from Christ dying for us on the cross. We will, one day, live in righteousness, but until then we are to continue living for God in every aspect of our lives. Praise God that you were healed as my daughter was healed by God when the doctors thought she should have never made it through the pregnancy. And I don't mean to start any argument, but since when did the Assemblies of God position paper take precedence over the Bible? |

12 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | xmikx | 136350
Well, acutally you are wrong. That was my first post on this subject, you must be confused as to who said what. Since you state you are a member of the Assemblies of God Church, shouldn't you say, 'a statement of what WE believe' instead of they believe? You state that you have given scriptures to prove it, but it seems that you are the only one you have proved it to. From reading the posts from the other forum contributers, it appears that you have not proved anything to them and especially me. Did you read the scripture in 1 Peter 2:24-25? It clearly states that we might die to sin and are to live to righteousness as a result of Christ's wounds and suffering. It does not say anything about being physically healed as a result of His death and resurrection. It is referring to a spiritual healing. Please take a look at the commentaries at www.crosswalk.com . They have very good Bible study tools on this website with many different commentaries.

14 | Explain Haggai | Hag 1:1 | xmikx | 137600
Hello Sharon, I must confess, I had never read Haggai until seeing your post. This is a very inspirational book of the old testament. This book is a call to rebuild the Temple. If you will remember starting in Haggai 1:5, this is what the LORD Almighty says: Consider how things are going for you! 6 You have planted much but harvested little. You have food to eat, but not enough to fill you up. You have wine to drink, but not enough to satisfy your thirst. You have clothing to wear, but not enough to keep you warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! Just before this in verse 3 3 So the LORD sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 4 "Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? This is from my NLT Bible book introduction. The people were more concerned with their own needs than with doing God's will, and as a result, they suffered. Although Haggai is a small book, it is filled with challenge and promise, reminding us of God's claim on our life and our priorities. My take: don't just be satisfied with "getting by". Put God first and do His will and He will reward you as He did after the Temple had been rebuilt. Mike |

15 | Do not give what is holy to dogs. means? | Matt 7:6 | xmikx | 142426
Greetings adeakin, this is from the IVP New Testament Commentary. I found this on www.biblegateway.com Even When You Are Right, Do Not Impose the Truth on Others (7:6) This saying seems to make little sense in this context; hence varied interpretations of verse 6 abound. Some think that dogs here are the Gentiles (15:26) and the pearls the gospel of the kingdom (13:45). But Jewish teachers used dogs to represent different things (not just Gentiles) in their parables, and even in 15:26 "dogs" is not wholly negative as it is here (see comment there). Other attempts to narrow the saying's object to prohibiting sinners from the Eucharist (as in Did. 9:5) also go beyond the evidence. In its most general sense 7:6 was probably simply a wisdom saying like Proverbs 23:9: "Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words" (compare also Syr. Men. Sent. 328-32). Dogs may refer to the wicked or oppressors more generally (compare Ps 22:16, 20; 59:14-15; Prov 26:11). It was also commonly known that stray scavenger dogs-the main kind encountered in the towns of Jewish Palestine-growled at those feeding them as much as at passing strangers (Isoc. Demon. 29, Or. 1). Clearly these are people who do not value what we have to offer them; swine also proverbially lacked appreciation of value (Prov 11:22). But why did Matthew include this saying here? Some connect the saying to the preceding context by suggesting that it means it is worthless to try to correct (7:1-5) one unwilling to listen. Others note that while we should not judge, some people should be avoided or we must exercise discernment. Yet taken by themselves, none of these suggestions explain the lack of disjunction in verse 6. Most likely verse 6 provides a transition between the preceding and following contexts. Correcting those who will not receive correction is futile (vv. 1-5; Prov 9:8; 23:9); we should discerningly continue to offer wisdom (or the gift of the kingdom) only to those willing to receive what we offer, just as God does (Mt 7:7-11). In this case the text sounds a note of reciprocity to be repeated in verse 12 (Keener 1993:64). If verse 6 means something along these lines, it does not allow us to prejudge who may receive our message (13:3-23), but does forbid us to try to force it on those who show no inclination to accept it (10:13-16; compare Carson 1984:185; Blomberg 1992:128-29; Hagner 1993:172). 16 | explane matt 18:18 or me | Matt 18:18 | xmikx | 135942
I am going to use the NIV and later AMP for this explanation. This is Jesus speaking in Matthew 18:18 (NIV) 18"I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be[3] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[4] loosed in heaven. Notes [3] and [4] are listed as footnotes in the NIV with the following explanation: 18:18 Or have been So, if you exchange will be with have been you can get the meaning of this verse. Whatever you hold on to on earth, should also be what is held on to in heaven. Or hold dearly on earth should be what is held dearly in heaven. It helps to start at verse 15 to understand what Jesus is referring to in verse 18. Now, the Amplified Bible for Matt 18:18 is: 18Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on earth must be [1] what is already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be [2] what is already permitted in heaven. Notes [1] and [2] are listed as footnotes and direct the reader to the footnote on Matt 16:19. The footnotes here are as follows: Charles B. Williams, The New Testament: A Translation: "The perfect passive participle, here referring to a state of having been already forbidden [or permitted]." So, in short, what we do and don't do here on earth should be done and not done the way it is in heaven. |

17 | What about Spiritual Parenting? | John 10:4 | xmikx | 137421
I am not exactly sure what type of answer you are going after, but Eli, who had heard messages from the LORD before, realized that the LORD was the one speaking to his son. He told Samuel to just say, 'Yes, your servant is listening." the next time he heard his name being called. After Samuel replied, the LORD revealed His plan: this starts at 1 Samuel 3:12 'I am going to carry out all of my threats against Eli and his family. |

19 | Does God hear the prayers of the lost? | Acts 10:4 | xmikx | 149203
Thanks for the scripture. Last Sunday's message at church was about prayer and how God gives four different answeres to prayer: 1. no 2. not yet 3. not that way 4. yes. So I am aware that God answers all prayer, but the answer is not always what we want. And I am very glad that God is in control and not me. Thanks again. |
