881 | "Name it and claim it" Biblical support | Matt 4:3 | prayon | 26594
Greetings Searcher! I had never associated 'name it and claim it' with these verses before but I can see after shell asked the question how one could deduce this from this scripture. I think that "ask and ye shall receive" could also lead you this deduction. I don't know if you could say that I really practice name it and claim it. I do claim a healing of my back, and I do claim my sons coming back to the way they were raised but those are both promises in the bible. I have also 'claimed' things like claiming a beautiful day in order to do something outside or that it would stay warm enough to finish painting my house before it gets cold, (which did come to pass thank you Jesus), but I always do my "claiming' in the form of a prayer. I do believe that there is a great danger in saying I can do it because God can be left out, I should of been much more explicit in my answer. I just assumed that one would know that you can't do it without God. I apologise. prayon
882 | John-author of Gospel and Revelation? | Revelation | prayon | 26420
Welcome to the forum Grandpamike! I agree with the others that it is the same John who wrote the other books that wrote Revelation. There are some specific parallels that help to show this. One is that only in the gospel of John and the book of Revelation is Jesus Christ referred to as the Word, or the Lamb. Both also describe Jesus as a witness. In Rev 1:9 John states that he was sent to the island of Patmos after he preached God's message and told about Jesus. prayon
883 | luke 22verse 35-38 pacifist contradict | Luke 22:36 | prayon | 26417
According to the MacArthur study bible Christ first refers to previously sending them out without any provisions (Luke 9:3). He had sovereignly arranged for their needs to be met. The money bag, knapsack, and sword were figurative expressions for such means (the sword being emblematic of protection not aggression). The swords were short, daggerlike instruments - more like knives than swords. There was nothing unusual about carrying them in that culture. They had many practical uses besides violence. prayon
884 | the ten virgins | Matt 25:1 | prayon | 26414
Greetings! In addition to Nolan's answer I wanted to add a little bit of symbolism. Lamps: Each virgin had a lamp. A lamp is a symbol of Christian profession. (Psa 119:105, Pro 6:23). 10 Virgins: In Jewish custom 10 constitutes a complete congregation. Oil: Oil is consistantly used in Scripture to symbolize power and the person of the Holy Spirit. The oil in the lamp causes it to produce light (2Cor 1:21-22). Sleepers: Christ is longer in coming than the church expected. Many have become complacent concerning his return. The virgins may appear selfish by not sharing their oil but we must remember that no one can give the Holy Spirit to another. Those who tried to get into heaven represent those who profess to be Christians but have no light. They are pretenders. They may appear to live an obedient life but in actuality have no personal relationship with Jesus and therefore He said He did not know them. In the custom of the marriage couple at that time when the groom was ready for the marriage to happen he went to the brides house and tried to catch her when she least expected. The bottom line of this parable is that you cannot borrow or loan a relationship with God, each person has to have their own. prayon |

886 | Islam believe christ except for what? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 26250
it is definitly inviting confussion into the church. Whenever you are inviting in something that is not of God into your church you are inviting in Satan and as we know Satan is the author of confusion. To those young believers it can have a detrimental impact on their spiritual walk. prayon
887 | Why Aaron? | Ex 28:1 | prayon | 26233
In Exodus 32:2-5 it tells of how the people gathered around Aaron and asked him to make gods for them. Aaron agreed and fashioned for them the golden calf and declared "these are your gods, O Isreal". Then in verse 22-24 it states that he lied about how it happened. Why then was this man chosen to be the priest in the tabernacle?
888 | Islam believe christ except for what? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 26227
Greetings friendly stranger! The main defference between the Islam faith and Christian beliefs is that the Muslem does not beleve that Christ is the Messiah. The Koran lists 22 prophets of Allah. These include Adam, Noah, Moses, David, and Jesus. There are 5 doctrines of Islam that Moslems are required to believe. One is mentioned above. The other 4 are that there is only one true God and his name is Allah. 2) The chief angel is Gabriel who appeared to Mohammed in a dream in which Allah had called to him to be a prophet. 3)Moslems believe in 4 God-inspired books. The torah of Moses (what we call the Pentateuch), the Zabur (the Psalms of David), the Injil (Gospel) and the Koran. But the Koran is Allahs final word to mankind and supercedes and overrules all previous writings. And last they must believe on the last day that all the dead will be resurrected and Allah will judge whether each person should be sent to heaven (a place of sensual pleasure) or hell where those who oppose Allah will be. The Koran contradicts the bible in numerous ways. One is that the Koran denies that Jesus is the son of God. He is considered to be a prophet and ranked far below that of Mohammed. It also says that Christ never really died on the cross. According to Islam, Allah took Jesus to heaven before the crucifixion and that it was really Judas, made up to look like Jesus that was crucifified. The Surah 4:111 declares that man must take care of his own sins. The muslim must earn salvation from sin (failure to do Allah's will) by following the 5 Pillars of Faith statement of belief, prayers, Alms, Observance of Ramadan, and at one pilgrimage to Mecca (the holy city). Hope this helps. prayon

You agreed to the tems of use of this forum. In your last couple postings you have become insulting and have totally lost your humility that you are told by Jesus to have. I believe that you owe others an apology, especially kalos, and that you need to be very critical of your own postings before you post them. This is not a place to boast of your accomplishments this is a study forum. It is to study the word of God so that we may grow to be closer to Jesus Christ our Lord. I encourage you to follow the terms of use set forth by Lockman. What truly counts is not how much knowledge you have but how humbly you serve Christ with it. prayon |

890 | beating your child with a rod | Prov 23:13 | prayon | 25696
I understand where you are coming from and that is good for some and it oc course it depends on the age of the child. One point to remember though is that many parents loose their temper when they are disciplining a child and become excessive with the rod. When you use a hand on the back side you will feel it too and have a reminder when enough is enough. People also have the tendency to use inappropriate items such as cords, 2x4's, ect. Physical injury is very easy to cause when using an object such as a rod. Much less physical harm is the case of hand to back side contact. And of course you should never strike a child any where except the back side. prayon

892 | who was zebedee | Matt 4:21 | prayon | 25586
Greetings buffalo! In addition to what has already been mentioned the name Zebedee means Jehovah is gift or the gift of God. He was also probably well known in the area since his sons were so often identified as somes of Zebedee. It is noted that his wife contributed contributed to Jesus' ministry (Matt 27:55-56, Mark 15:40-41). There is nothing in the gospels that says he hindered either his sons or his wife from following Jesus. It is possible that he also followed Jesus but the bible makes no mention of it. prayon

894 | What is the meaning of 2 Cor 11:1-22 | 2 Cor 11:1 | prayon | 25077
Greetings Praise211! Chapter 11 is about both himself and the church. He is using himself as an example to warn the Corinthian church about false teachers. In this part of the chapter Paul is deeply concerned about the Corinthians, whom he loves and admires so much, and their being misled by the false prophets. He apologises twice for his boasting (ver. 1, 16) but feels he must do this in order to silence the false teachers (ver 11,13). Paul acknowledges that boasting is not of the Lord but a desperate situation called for desperate measures. His boasting was not for self-glorifacation, but to counter the false doctrine threatening the Corinthaian Church. The Corinthians had a pure and simple devotion to Christ that was being threatened by false teachers. He did not want them to loose their focus on Christ. The church was falling for smooth talkers that sounded good and seemed to make sense. But the false teachers ended up distorting the truth and preaching another Christ than the one in the bible. Paul bluntly and directly exposed the false teachers for what they were - emissaries of Satan. He warned the Corinthians that they may look good, and sound good but they were not of God. prayon |

895 | Name it and claim it?????????????? | Matt 4:3 | prayon | 25068
I do believe that you can name it and claim it. I claim things frequently that come to pass. However you can claim something that God has not planned for you. For example you can claim an expensive new car and He will give it to you but you will have problems with the payments, the car, or something else. It will end up being a lesson in asking for what is not in God's will. Sometimes claiming something can be for our own good. When faced with a difficult task repeatedly claiming "I can do it, I can do it" will give you the ability to do it. Name it and claim it is just like everything else - you must do it in moderation and most importantly in God's will. prayon |

Greetings BJK Chriss! That would be an impossible quesion to answer not knowing the situation or reasons that she left. I can tell you that with God anything is possible. I would suggest that you pray that God will open your eyes to the entire situation and give you the wisdom to proceed in the way that He would want you to. If you want to write me my address is in my user info. I could probably be more specific if I knew more. God Bless You. prayon

898 | Spritual or Physical ? | Rev 21:8 | prayon | 24970
Greetings Toto! The second death they are referring to here is a spiritual death. After our physical death (the first death) we all will have to stand before God for our final judgement (Rev 20:11-15). The purpose of this final judgement is a confrontation between God and the unbeliever to clearly demonstrate why he is already condemned. This will be when the book of life is opened. Those who are listed in the above scripture will be thrown into the lake of fire and will then die spiritually. prayon

900 | How does Romans 8:38-39 fit in with Heb | Heb 6:4 | prayon | 24968
The author of Hebrews was refering to the pagans who investigated Christianity and then went back to the paganism from which they came. Some Jewish Christians did the same thing and returned to Judism. By turning away from God at the most knowledgeable time in their lives, they cut themselves off from God's forgiveness. However, even when you turn away from God He will never turn away from you. Nothing can stop His constant presence with us.
