621 | What animals are okay to eat? | Mark 7:15 | prayon | 61171
Greetings wolfrose, Acts 10 verse 10 tells us that Paul became very hungry while he was praying. He then fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet descend to earth. In this sheet were all types of 4 footed animals (both clean and unclean) of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. A voice came to him and it said: "Rise Peter, kill and eat". Peter at first refused. To him the command seemed all wrong. But then a voice came down and said "What God has cleansed you must not call common". God had previously set these dietary restrictions to keep the Israelites seperate from their idolatrous neighbors. The restrictions made it difficult for Jews to eat with Gentiles without risking defilement. This helped to keep the Jews and idolotrous Gentiles seperate. The new command abolished the OT dietary restrictions. In doing this God also made unity in the church between the Jews and the Gentiles. The above releases us from Lev 11 dietary restrictions. prayon
622 | Listening to God | Matt 7:7 | prayon | 61039
Greetings vildan and welcome to the forum, The first way to learn to hear God is to pray. "Make me to know your ways O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long" (Psalm 25:4-5). Ask Him to let you hear Him. "Whatever you ask me I will give you up to half of my kingdom" (Mark 6:23). "Whatever you ask of God, God will give you" (John 11:22). Then listen. He will speak to you in a quiet voice. The story of Elijah teaches us that God speaks more frequently in whispers than in shouts. God also uses others to speak to you. It might be through a person who you are having a conversation with, or through the radio or TV. Hope this helps. prayon |

624 | Can I come home again, or apostate? | Luke 15:24 | prayon | 61020
Greetings Pemican, You keep referring to Paul as the writer of Hebrews. Although it is a possibility that Paul did write Hebrews it is doubtful. The epistle itself does not support this claim. The style, vocabulary, and literary characteristics differ from the other books that Paul wrote. In addition, the writer of Hebrews includes himself among those who had received confirmation of Christ's message from others (2:3). Paul states in Galations 1:12 that he received his confirmation directly from God and not from men. Luke is also a possibility, however, Hebrews does not follow his style either. Other possibilities include Barnabas, Silas, Apollos, Phillip, Pricilla, Aquilla, and Clement of Rome. Whoever it was does refer to Timothy as "brother". prayon

Greetings nae64, I will not speculate why this has happened, as Kalos said the forum is not a place to counsil. I want to say though that God knows what is in your heart and He will bless you for it. Remember that "all things work together for the good to those who love God" (Rom 8:28). prayon
627 | 7 years of tribulation? | Matt 24:29 | prayon | 60953
Greetings inheavenseyes, just a little more on the 7 years for you. As everyone said the 7 years of tribulation has not come yet. Daniel 9:27 tells us that the tribultion will begin when the Roman Antichrist signs a treaty with the Jews to rebuild their temple and resume animal sacrifices. During this time the antichrist will provide a pseudo-peace. Halfway through the 7 years the antichrist will break this covenant by causing an abomination against the Jewish people. The desecration will ruin what the Jews regard as sacred, the temple. (see also Matt 24:15). During the first 1260 days or 3 1/2 years the two witnesses (believed to be Moses and Elijah) will be present. They will identify the antichrist for who he is. The antichrist will have the two witnesses killed and they will lay dead in the street for 3 days and then be raised from the dead. During the 2nd half of the tribulation the antichrist will have supernatural powers. During this time the antichrist will raise up a conspirator. The conspirator will be even more ruthless because he will enslave the minds and souls of men. It is believed that this person will be a religious specialist. prayon |

628 | Age of Solomon when he took throne? | 2 Sam 12:1 | prayon | 60926
Greetings chilindude, I am not quite sure what you mean by "his significance". There are lessons we can learn from his life. 1) Effective leadership can be nullified by an ineffective personal life. 2) Solomon failed to obey God, but did not learn the lesson of repentance until late in life. 3) Knowing what actions are required of us means little without the will to do thoses actions. 630 | 1 John passages interpretation | 1 John | prayon | 60654
Greetings, In 1John 8 the water is referring to Jesus baptism. Water and blood constitute the external objective witnesses to who Christ is. They refer to the baptism and death (blood). In 1John 3:4-8 When we are born again we become a member of God's family. It is inconsistant for a member of God's family, who should bear the family likeness to practice sin. In doing so he would be denying the family likeness and repudiating God's will. John does not say that the one who abides in Christ does not commit a single act of sin, instead he declares no one who dwells in Him is practicing sin. He may, and does, commit individual acts of sin, but he does not habitually live a life of sin because sin in incompatible with the believer's position in Christ. Sin unto death is any premeditated and unconfessed sin that causes the Lord to determine to end to the believers life. It is not an indivdual sin like murder or lying, but whatever sin is the final one in the tolerance of God. Again John is indicating here that no one who has been born of God habitually engages in sin. In this last verse John is highlighting the importance of adherence to the fundamentals of the faith. He is referring here to the false teachers that withdrew from the brotherhood with which they had formally been associated. The false teachers upheld the world's philosophy as superior to God's revelation as demonstratedd in their perversion of basic Christian teaching. John warns the children of Christ to protect themselves from their false beliefs and practices. Faith in Jesus and dedication of one's life to Him make one an overcomer. In 4:17 the judgement referred to is the time when we stand before dthe judgement seat of Christ. (answers taken from Everyman's Bible Comentary and MacArthur Study Bible) prayon |

631 | what is following His Footsteps to you? | 1 Pet 2:21 | prayon | 60638
Greetings inheavenseyes, I agree with Makarios but I want to add that Christ was an example that we need to imitate. We are called to suffer without flinching, if need be, for we see in Jesus the greatest example of one who suffered unjustly without striking back. We will at sometime have to endure some sort of persecution. Christ-like behavior on the part of the believer in the midst of such trials results in the strengthening and perfecting of the Christian on earth. Christ set a pattern for us to follow that in suffering or persecution we are to have Christ's patience and love in dealing with the trial before us. prayon |

632 | Saved vs. Works (John 5:24 and 5:28-29) | John 5:24 | prayon | 60636
Greetings Bubba, Jesus was not teaching justifacation by works. In the context the "good" is believing on the son as to receive a new nature that produces good works, while the "evil" done is to reject the Son (the unsaved) and hate the light which has the result of evil deeds. In essence, works merely evidence one's nature as saved or unsaved, but human works never determine one's salvation. In these verses Christ was talking to the Jews. Hope this answers your quesions. prayon

635 | Explain eye for eye/turn cheek? | Matt 5:1 | prayon | 60583
Greetings Norrie, God's purpose for this law was mercy. He wanted to make sure that the punishement fit the crime. The law was given (in Lev 24:20) to limit vengeance which was sometimes taken to the extreme. It was never meant to give permission for acts of personal retaliation. When we get wronged, ususally our first inclanation in to get even. But in this Jesus is telling us to do good to those who hurt us. Instead of getting even pray for those who hurt you. People then and people today use the law as a scapegoat for getting the personal satisfaction of getting even. prayon |

636 | ALL christians in speaking out on sin? | Matt 7:2 | prayon | 60576
Greetings again, Yes you have my permission. I think there is a slight difference. Where as you are responsible for your sheep, Christians are basically responsible for themselves. Christians are to witness to nonbelievers and let them know what is sin but not on the level you are. When questioned, Christians however, must call a sin a sin. They are not to sugarcoat it either. They too will one day have to stand before God and explain why they did not tell someone of a sin. Imagine how it would be if that person missed heaven because a Christian didn't want to judge them or hurt their feelings. Like you, they must hate the sin and love the sinner. agape, prayon |

637 | Is it wrong to preach against sin? | Matt 7:2 | prayon | 60567
Greetings Pastor Glenn, NO! Absolutely not! Can I say it any stronger? Matthew 7:2 does not prohibit all types of judging (v.16). There is a righteous kind of judgement we are supposed to exercise with careful discernment (John 7:24 - Do not judge according to appearance but with righteous judgement). Censorious, hypocritical, self-righteous or other kinds of unfair jugements are prohibited. In other words the type of judgement that tears another down in order to build one's self up. Judge not means condemn not. Condemning others so blinds our spiritual vision (like a beam of wood in the eye)that we are unable to see to help take the speck out of anothers eye. When preaching your are to condemn the sin i.e., lying or stealing. Preach that sin is what will lead you to absence of eternal life. Do not preach against a person, preach against the sin. An attitude of "if the shoe fits...". The hearers of the Word should then decide whether it applies to them. If you did not preach against sin and say that it was wrong how do you think that your congregation would learn that sin leads to death? It is your responsibility to preach the truth, whether you step on toes or not. You are the shepherd and your congregation is your flock. You must answer to God concerning the actions and condition of your flock. Do you want to go in front of Jesus and tell Him that you did not want to preach aginst sin because you didn't want to judge anyone? As for the "church goers" - Maybe they don't want to hear it because when they hear it the Holy Spirit moves to convict them and they don't want to give up the sin. Remember, the devil will use anyone he can to stop God's word from going out. John the Baptist was beheaded because he upset Herodias by condemning her sin. Herodias married Phillip, her fathers brother. John openly rebuked the sin of incest strongly. The daughter of Herodias asked for John's head because her mother wanted revenge on John. Because of his promise he had to give it. He was grieved because he did not want to behead John. So I guess you could say that John was beheaded because he preached against sin. What would of happpened if John hadn't followed his call to preach against sin and prepare the path for Jesus? prayon |

639 | Are modern services merely a tradition? | 1 Cor 14:29 | prayon | 60551
Greetings Aspilos, I am not quite sure exactly what you are looking for but I will give it a try. "let others pass judgement" - the bible tells us that whenever we hear the Word preached by someone we are to search the scriptures to make sure the words he speaks lines up with what the Word says. I would hope that everyone does this. Is this what you were looking for? prayon |

640 | Is hell a real place? | Matt 5:22 | prayon | 60524
Greetings kindhearted; Many people try to deny the existance of hell. Unfortunatly some of them are pastors/preachers. They are scared of offending people so they pretend that hell doesn't exist. I wish they would realize just what the repercussions of that could be. Hell is a very real place and the bible tells us it is a place of eternal torment. Luke 16:19-31 (NRSV) is the story of the rich man and the beggar. In verse 23 it clearly states "In Hades, where he was being tormented". And then is verse 24 he cried out for mercy and water to cool his tongue "for I am tormented in this flame". Both verses tell us without doubt that there is a hell and that hell is a place of torment. prayon |
