Interesting that the root word for denomination is division. Didn't Jesus say a house divided against itself cannot stand? |

164 | Is this when Abram was declared righteou | Gen 12:1 | mbooker | 57354
Gensis 15:4-6 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, This man shall not be your heir, but he who shall come from your own body shall be your heir. And He brought him outside [his tent into the starlight] and said, Look now toward the heavens and count the stars--if you are able to number them. Then He said to him, So shall your descendants be. And he [Abram] believed in (trusted in, relied on, remained steadfast to) the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness (right standing with God). If my understanding is correct, this is when Abram was counted righteous. |

166 | Cult by God's definition | Bible general Archive 1 | mbooker | 57351
Good Morning Brother Tim May I ask you if you know if we have a biblical standard by which to determine if a group is a cult or not. I ask because another sister and I looked up 'cult' in the Webster's dictionary and to be perfectly honest, we both felt that we(believers) could be define as a cult if you use Webster's dictionary. My goal is to allow the Word of God to be the final authority. So, have you come across any scriptures that you believe can help us identify a 'cult'? One scripture that I consider is I John 4:1-3. Thanks so much for your response. Abba Father Bless you... :) Sister Meredith |

167 | DELIVER MY MIND | Rom 12:2 | mbooker | 57349
For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. Good Morning EdB! Thanks for responding... When you said 'the scripture God’s owes no man', I thought of Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. KJV He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done. NIV He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and that which he has given He will repay to him. Amp One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed. NTL Can you point me to 'the scripture God’s owes no man'. Thanks again for taking the time to response. Abba Father bless you... |

169 | HI EdB | Bible general Archive 1 | mbooker | 57318
Hi EdB Thanks for responding. I must say that it would take awhile to find all the local pastors 'that speak most about money'! LOL That would mean I would have to visit each local church several times and compare one with another. Then I would have to observe each congregation to compare them with their pastor. WHEW! That could take a long time. I think my own pastor would wonder where in the world I am each Sunday. :) (this paragraph was typed in humor) But I will share this. My pastor has an SUV, a Mercedes and I believe he still has a pickup truck. His wife has a Toyota (not the Camry, but the other one (the name escapes me at present) ). He wears nice suits and his wife dresses nice also. I've never seen his house and never looked up his local property tax records. But I do have his address and phone number and can find his home if I choose to. Our congregation is a mixture. We have state workers, lawyers, doctors, professors, teachers, business owners, college students. And comparing the members of the congregation with the pastor, I see equity for the most part. Now... :) No, my church is not labeled WoF. In fact, we are labeled 'Baptist'. My pastor usually picks a passage of scripture and preaches on it and I don't recall the last time he preached specifically on the subject of money other than reading a scripture(usually Malachi 3:8-10) at offering time. My pastor is paid thru tithes given by the congregation, so I guess he too lives off what is given by his listeners. Given the following scripture, is it wrong for 'preachers (to) live off what is given by their listeners'? Gal 6:6 Let him who receives instruction in the Word [of God] share all good things with his teacher [contributing to his support]. Amp Those who are taught the word of God should help their teachers by paying them. NLT Oh and please... please... please I beseech anyone who may raise a brow at the number of autos my pastor has... please... please... please I humbly beseech you: I can not and will not defend why he should or should not have them, so please, if you have a problem with it, just leave a scripture reference and I'll pass it along :). Whew! How did this post get so long?!! Abba Father bless and keep you... :) |

170 | Notes that have barbes? | Eph 4:15 | mbooker | 57294
'have consideration for the uniqueness of each person in the body of Christ' Brother Robert, you stated in words what I could not. As I have read thru posts today, I have been greived at what I perceive as strife within the body. Oh! that we would all 'have consideration for the uniqueness of each person in the body of Christ' while we remain true to the truth of our Father's word. Abba Father bless you... :) |

172 | cult by what definition? | Bible general Archive 1 | mbooker | 57278
I would like offer a statement in the form of a question. Can this issue of what is a cult or who is a heretic be answered by: BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world. By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source]; And every spirit which does not acknowledge and confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh [but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite Him] is not of God [does not proceed from Him]. This [ nonconfession] is the [spirit] of the antichrist, [of] which you heard that it was coming, and now it is already in the world. I John 4:1-3 Just a thought... Abba Father bless... |

174 | verify statement | Bible general Archive 1 | mbooker | 57271
I was in a bible study a few years ago and the author of the book we were studying made this statement: Ministries that preach about money take in the most money. (not an exact quote). here it was stated 'yet they themselves the teachers of WoF live strictly off those that listen to them'. Does anyone know if and where the above statements can be verified as being true? Thanks in advance to those who may respond... :) |

175 | Anyone killed for stopping God's work | Ps 105:15 | mbooker | 57252
Good morning Kalos! I have printed your post and will look up each scripture reference later today. When I was first pointed to 1 John 2:20, I became excited because I learned that I was indeed anointed! Some time later in Sunday school, I made the statement that we(believers) are all anointed and I remember the teacher implying that only ministers/pastors were anointed. I referenced 1 John 2:20 and left it at that. Thanks for the post and scripture references. Abba Father bless you... |

Hi Brother Jack I can relate to your battle with smoking and wondering how you can quit. My battle is food. For too many years, I had been eating too much and I was not eating the right(healthy) foods. A few years ago I began to confess ('Death and life are in the power of the tongue' Proverb 18:21) the following: I am more than a conqueror through him that loves me. Romans 8:37 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Phil 4:13 And my favorite: God ALWAYS causes me to triumph in Christ. 2 Cor 2:14 In Him, I know you can do it and I pray that you grab hold to these scriptures too and renew your mind. And know that you can quit because you can do all things through Christ. And remember that with God all things are possible(Matt 19:26). Also remember what the Lord told Sara. Is any thing too hard for the LORD? Abba Father bless you in triumphing and may you be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might(Eph 6:10)!!! :) |

178 | What love is or isn't? | 1 Corinthians | mbooker | 57172
I Corinthians 13:4-13a is one biblical definition: Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. Amplified version |

180 | May we be in 'perfect harmony ' | 1 Cor 1:10 | mbooker | 57156
Good Morning to all my brothers and sisters in Christ. As I was driving home from work yesterday, I was thinking about this forum and the contention that I preceived is present here. I recalled how my mother would get upset when my sister and I were in contention and bickered with each other(though we have not bickered in some years now :) ). I wonder if our Father gets upset when there is contention among us. This morning, while getting ready for work, I was watching a bible lesson on tv and the minister quoted I Cor 1:10. I was especially struck by 'you be perfectly united in your common understanding and in your opinions and judgements'. I understand that we all have been taught different things (unfortunately) about the Word of God, but it is my prayer that we 'come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ' Eph 4:13. It is also my prayer that each one of us: 'give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God' I Cor 10:32 'give no offence in any thing' II Cor 6:3 'be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ' Phil 1:10. It is also my prayer that when we have opposing understandings of a biblical matter, that each of us endeavor to understand where the other person is coming from, then, with a sincere heart, go Papa in prayer and ask that our eyes of understanding be opened (even if we believe our eyes are already open) that we may 'be perfectly united in our common understanding and in our opinions and judgments'. Now... :) Am I saying we should not address posts that go contrary to what we believe? No, I'm not saying that. The scriptures say: 'Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine 2 Tim 4:2 'These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee' Titus 2:15 (I find it interesting that the above 2 scriptures, while mentioning rebuking also mention exorting) 'This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith' Titus 1:13. And here Paul is talking about the 'many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.' Titus 1:10-11 I would also like to say that I AM NOT accusing anyone of delibrately causing contention, so please do not allow the enemy to give a spirit of offence. My only desire is to exhort. And besides that, maybe my perception is completely wrong. In that case, please disregard this entire post. I will sign off with Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Abba Father Bless and Keep each one of you... :) Meredith |
