2761 | More experienced translators needed... | 2 Pet 3:10 | justme | 242520
Vamite: Welcome to the study Bible Forum. I just wanted you to know that you were not being ignored as you question is interesting and worthy of dialogue. I am totally reliant upon some very basic tools to deal with the Greek. I did look up the verse in two different Greek English New Testaments, as well as A. T. Robertson in his book WORD PICTURES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT in volume VI page 176-177 suggests that verse 10 and 12 use the same language in a few places. The heat can also be said to be that of a fever. However Robertson also says that verse 10 that when some translations say "shall be found." "There are various other readings here." and Robertson says "the text seems corrupt." Now I am not equipped to understand exact ally what all this really means, I do agree it is very interesting study. I went to college with Dr. James White who has Alpha Omega Ministries and is perhaps one expert of Greek and Apologetics. You can look up his ministry web site and gain some rreally deep studies there as well. Above all I have for my own growth a rather good selection of word study books because of my ignorance. Even with a seminary degree and a basic knowledge they teach, it is but a beginning knowledge of Greek, A serious Greek scholar works with the masterof this language every day as I have been told. So most of those who are learning Greek and plan to become proficient in the use of the language are not usually found on the Study Bible Forum, in my opinion. But there just might be a very modest Greek expert hiding in this forum. Blessings Vamite. justme |

2762 | Say we that love God so much,Still fall | 1 John | justme | 53027
Jesussfriend. Welcome to the Forum! First time I see, glad you asked the question. I am "justme". I imagine most all of us have asked the same question at sometime. If you would turn to 1 John 1:9. Please read verses 8,9, and 10. I know this will give you The Words answer. Remember King David of the Old Testament. Boy did he love God! Boy did he blow it big time! Yet he repented, and God said David was a man after His heart. David comitted adultery, murder, lied, wow, David messed up so bad, I can't see how God was able to love him ever again. But that's the mercifull God we have. Now if David became clean again, friend of Jesus so can you! Blessings, agape, justme |

2763 | Forgiven for spending to much? | 1 John | justme | 53029
Top: Blessings on you for making Christ lord. Ring the Bells of Heaven. I read what the others have said and all ot is top notch advice. I would add is a Chapter 13 open to you? I would suppose you lawer, and has advised you and has given you the options open to you. I know several business friends who after 9 11 the went belly up. Look at Anderson Auditing, and now World Com or MCI as it was once known. Many retired people lost their retirement. We are in very serious financial problems in our country. From what I see I think it will get worse for some time to come. Be a wise steward,. When older people die for the lack of medicine in the USA we are in trouble. More and More married children are moving back with their parents to make it. Learn to live on 80 percent of what you take home. Remember what you don't spend; you don't have to earn! Here where I live 8 dollars an hour is considered a fair wage. I made that 33 years ago! Tuust me you can always Trusr God to supply your needs. Not wants, but you can rely on Christ. I know we have raised 4 children and God always has provided. agape, justme |

2764 | Solve married second time, confess sins? | 1 John | justme | 53596
Ok, I now get the question. First of all there are messy situations like this all over the USA in Christian Churches. Christians are breaking the Covenant they made to each other and God. There is no other way to put it, that is sin. Not to be taken lightly. Sadly we have some very liberal, weak willed pastors, that marry Christians in this type of situation with no problem at all. To marry a Christian that was not divorced on Biblical grounds is wrong. When a couple comes for marriage counseling the pastor needs to ask if either have an ex unmarried spouse. If one or both say yes then there other steps. I would speak to the divorced one and say that they are bound by their covenant to God to rerunite or remain single. Now comes the sneaky part. One says this is not fair to me that he or she did this or that and justifies why they can remarry some one else. With that then the other is free to remarry, because you can not remarry an ex who has married some one else. I am firmly convienced if pastors were very direct and worked with the divorced one and the ex they might well restore that union and honnor their covenant with God and each other. I have told several couples in simular situations that I could not marry them because scripture forbade it. Now I have married divorced Christians that had very Biblical reasons. But I have insisted on Christian Psychological counseling by a Christian PHD. Only if there was deffinate reason to believe this person had dealt with their part of the first failure, whether through forgiveness or facing their faults. Then would we enter marriage counseling. Second marriages have a very high rate of failure, much more than first marriages. So in your story Philip and Shirly were wrong to marry. The Pastor will answer for his part in allowing this marriage. Now if or when Philip and Shirly become convicted of their sin then 1 John 1:9 is their answer. To confess it to God. The rest is God's to forgive. Perhaps Philip and Sherily need to go to Grace and ask for forgivness, that would be in order. For a more complete scriptual understanding read ! Corinthians chapters 6 and 7. I am not sure is most Cristians understand what a covenant is. When I came to realize what it meant to be in a covenant marriage it so overwhelmed me! I was very sobered by how many of us, in positions of, marring couples in a Holy Union with the two of them and God have failed our responsibilities before God. For me it has been a heavy burden to hear when couple I married has divorced. I feel very broken hearted. Now, if I feel this hurt, hows our Father God feel? I have spoken the truth as the Word of God says. I have deep sympathy for couples who have messed up, and I grieve for anyone in that situation. But God so loves His children He forgives when true confession of sin is made. Sometimes we can not go back and make things right. With Gods mercy and Grace we all must run the race we have set before us. Romans 8:28 to 39, gives us the fact that nothing can separate from the Love of God. Peace be with with you. agape, justme |

2765 | Overeating, Gluttony, deprivation | 1 John | justme | 64952
Ronaldculleton: Welcome to the Forum: You are not alone my friend! I have diabetes my self. I can understand exactly what you have expressed. Not knowing your age, weight or living situation, or marital status makes answering you sorta of a shot in the dark. So I can say what your are experiencing is not uncommon. 1 John 4:4 is a very encouraging verse. Write it in huge letters and put it on your refigerator! Start there. Go to a clinic that deals with Diabetes, and can get you on medication, and a diet training, that is realistic, and allows rewards. This is a very serious situation and I find it very hard to stay away from sweets as well. I have had a long battle with this myself. All the complications that a diabetec face I have seen in others. There have been times that my family and me have faced some difficult times. My children who are thin, all have diatebetec symptoms. They have to control theirs with diet. I take two kinds of medication. I test my blood sugar once a day. I have even dropped to 40 which is very dangerious, often deadly. This is something you need help to learn to manage. Emotions can be a major problem with overeating, which can led to diabetes. Some people have type one and have no control, and type two you have more hope of regulating with a carefull diet. With Christ you can become an overcomer. You really can Here are some things that have helped me. I drink only skim milk, and I now like it! Don't anyone laugh it can be done. I drink only diet soda. I use no sugar, I use Walmarts Value sugar substatute egual. I eat small meals. As directed by the dietition. No one can tell you what works for them will work for you. But common to us all is the fact that we need to be accountable to someone else. We make some foods off limits and my wife only brings home special foods like icecream for something like birthdays. Change takes place one minuet at a time. Then one hour at a time and one meal at a time. Someone once said inch by inch it's a sinch! Yard by yard life is too hard! I will remember you in prayer. Get to a clinic as soon as you can! Start some changes when you read my note. Remember you do have Jesus who is greater than all that can come against you! I will keep you in my prayers. justme |

2766 | Overeating, Gluttony, deprivation | 1 John | justme | 65002
Ronald: You are doing a lot of the right things, and thats good. Are you ina a good church with activities? That would be a real help if you are not.I hope you are involved with a Christian counselor who is trained in the area you need help. There is the quiestion Jesus asked several before He healed them. DO YOU WANT TO BE HEALED? This may be a question to ask your self. Eventually it comes down to having will power on your own. That may take help to let yourself develope it. Perhaps finding something that will fill the emotional need you have, that at present you use food to comfort that emotional need. I would deffinately talk this over with your pastor or counselor. I am rembering you in my prayers. justme |

2768 | Why must we continually confess sin? | 1 John 1:8 | justme | 107446
windjammer: Welcome to the Bible Study Forum. May I suggest that the when ever I say I am "mature" I am about to take a fall. I caution you about making such grandious statements, as they tend to humble us quite quickly. As mature believers I an rather supprised neither you or your friend was well founded enough in the Word to recall 1 John 1:10. To refresh your memory, If we say we have not sinned we make Him out to be a lier. This is my paraphrase. Does any of this ring a bell? I consider myself to be quite in need of milk and I am just able to handle some soft food in the Word. There are so many who are mature in my eyes in this forum. I am saying these things not only to you windjammer, but to myself as well. I have huge wood spikes in my spiritual eyes, and it makes it hard at times to see my own spiritual weakness. I hope this gives you something to consider. Any thoufgts? Blessings. justme |

2769 | Are all your sins washed away when bapti | 1 John 1:9 | justme | 144284
Tennseeehills4: What you are refering to is called baptismal regeneration, which some do believe in. I for one do not accept this view. Scripture clearly indicates that when we confess our sins that God is faithful to cleanse us from our sins. Please read 1 John 1:9. The question of marriage and remarriage is a subject that is a different subject totally. May I refer you to 1 Corinthians Chapter 7. I strongly advise you to seek out your pastor or Christian counselor. In my belief of Scripture as long as neither party has remarried, and there the possibility of hope to reconcile. The real only block to reuniting is when there is one of the couple who has taken up with someone else in a sexual relationship. Even this can be overcome. With God all things are possible. In reality in the world we live today the odds are not in favor of even Christians marriage making it, and a second marriage has a 80 percent chance of failure. a third marriage is almost impossible. Most of the time we carry our problems on with us. I can only encourage you to find a pastor or Christian counselor that can deal with covenant marriage, and either help reunite you or help you to accept this failure and become clean before the Lord. Divorce is always hardness of heart. I pray God will direct your path. justme |

2771 | Do gays and lesobians go to hell? | 1 John 2:1 | justme | 92511
Everlearning:Could you please provide me with the Scripture that says Christians are forbidden to judge the eternal destiny of any other human being. My concern is that if we can not judge that Hitler was hell bound, which seems rather clear, than where is Gods justice? There are many more examples that meet the same purpose for illustration. Iraq's leaders are a case in point of todat. Does not scripture come out very specfically telling us that those who reject Christ are anti Christs? Are not anti Christs going to hell? Thank you for taking the time to dialogue your point. Looking forward to hear from you. justme |

2772 | Do gays and lesobians go to hell? | 1 John 2:1 | justme | 92581
Everlearning: I understand your point better now. I think when someone has lived a wicked evil life, and died being so, I would not spend one second tring to think they might have had a last breath change of heart. What comes to mind is the two brothers killed in Iraq, two weeks ago. Would you not agree? justme |

2773 | is barack obama the antichrist? | 1 John 2:18 | justme | 234384
Terrasahaar: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. Some noteworthy christians have stated that President Obama, by his testimony, have convinced them President Obama is a christian. The Bible Answer Man being one that states this. There are some that are just as convinced that President Obama has Muslim beliefs. I think that the better way of responding to either side, is a Biblical response. God has placed, permitted, allowed Mr. Obama to be President of the United States. As is my christian responsibility I will pray for him. When President Obama does something that is not in line with what Scripture teaches I will email the White House and join in other groups that oppose his actions. When President Obama does something good I can praise him as well. President Obama is unlikely the anti christ Scripture speaks of. However anyone who is not a christian is in reality a anti christ. We should be very careful in so freely making such harmful remarks against President Obama. I have been very outspoken against President Obama, when he has made supportive efforts for homosexuality in the Military, and same sex marriage. Just to name a few issues. In the Old Testament Calamity is mentioned about 75 times. Most of the times calamity is mentioned in Jeremiah. Many times the Lord has said He brings on calamity for punishment, and this can mean death to large numbers of people and even complete Nations. I personally believe the United States is under the Judgement of the Lord. Just look at the "calamities" our nation has undergone in recent times and years. I have not noticed repentance in our nation. Perhaps theLord is trying to get our attention. Perhaps Good has allowed our leaders to be a messenger of warning calamity. Blessings. justme |

2774 | When will the Antichrist come ? | 1 John 2:18 | justme | 241830
Doc: I just this morning came to this thread. I read it from start to finish. This is filled with opinion, and lacks a genuine view of Scripture. Calling John MacArthur an anti-Christ violates John 13:34,35. Often when someone calls other's faults into the open or points out what they say is a sin in someone else, it's really the accuser that has the very issues they are accusing others of. I find some who wrote so harshly, have missed he true Gospel "boat" altogether. (my word picture) Finding a response that represents the way Jesus himself would reply, might well be no response at all but allow a person to prove they are foolish as Proverbs describes. in some verses. Unless Scriptural proof is used, it's just opinion. Even then we as brothers and sisters can disagree, when verses are dealing with minor issues. Foot washing falls into that kind of debate. But the essentials, or core Doctrines of the Scripture there is no room for debate and even then answering with gentleness often is best. Blessings. justme |

GodMan: What church are you refering to? In all the churches I have ever been a part of Holiness and repentence have been basic in the Sunday School and in the pastors sermons. So from my perspective I have not seeem what you are asking. Could you please elaborate a little more of what you expect? Blessings. justme |

2776 | Common grounds with Muslims? | 1 John 3:13 | justme | 225064
The Qur'an calls Christians ifidel's. "Muslims who make fiends with unbelievers (meaning Christians) lose their salvation from Allah." Chapter 3:28. In the Qur'an telling lies to over come and kill unbelievers is encouraged. How can Christians find a common ground to dialogue and share our faith? |
||||||
2777 | Qur'an encourages what? | 1 John 3:13 | justme | 225077
biblicalman: According to the Qur'an we are "people of the Book", also called "unbelievers" with which they "will loose their salvation fron Allah". Chapter 3:28. I have a Qur'an and there are many time Muslims are told to keep away from people of the book. "common ground" is impossible to build any relationship unless trust can be established having truth as a basis. The Qur'an tells Muslims tolie and even kill infidels, which Christians are called because we do not accept Alla as anything more than a sinful man. I agree with DOC that we are to share Christ with Muslims as we do anyone else. However one never knows if they might say something just to trick you. Please tell me where the Qur'an "encourages contact between Muslims, Christians and Jews." Please state Chapter and verse so I can correct any misunderstanding in what I have read. Blessings. justme |

2778 | A fanatic, a zealot or a prophet? | 1 John 4:1 | justme | 204823
Sheldee: As others have said, welcome. There is nothing that she could say that is not already said in Scripture, she could easily give a Scripture reference, and expand her thoughts on how the Scripture applies to your church. Unless your church is a Word of Faith Church or as it is called sometimes Full Gospel Church, this situation has an uneasy feeling and sound to it. justme |

2779 | Are demons active today in our world? | 1 John 4:4 | justme | 144291
Do demons exist today? How do they influence Christians today? If Jesus cast demons out in His time, then are we less borthered now? Why is the issue of demons ignored by churches today if there is such a thing as demon oppression on Christians. PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION WITHOUT SPECFIC SCRIPTURE TO BACK UP YOUR ANSWER. justme |
