2421 | Male-female equality? | Gal 3:28 | justme | 91289
Cascade: I hope you take my wword, that I do not offer appologies in jest. I did not feel anything was a waste of time. I do sincerely hope we have mended some wounds. I will say I a seem to be quite sensitive to hearing wifes treated a s door matts. I lothe tha fact that women for the most part are still treated as second class Christians in many churches today. I am not supportive of any agenda to amy womans movement. I an trying to elevate women as Jesus did Himself. If it were not for Godly women the church would be in leadership shambles. I don't think I have evercoome accross so strongly before. Perhaps because of being so ill I made a knee jerk reaction to your note, You seem to be able to ride through the hard notes, I do hope this opens further dialogue. Blessings. justme |

2422 | Male-female equality? | Gal 3:28 | justme | 91431
Cascade: I pulled the book from our library and spent a length of time reviewing my notes. This is a rather long book 566 pages. In my opinion this is not written for the avrage church member to sit and read it and enjoy it. The author says to read the chapters one s interested in then read chapter 26. There is nothing in the book I wouls call heritical about the book. The book assumes this is the only way for "Biblical manhood and womanhood" and for every reason there might be to take a different view on any issue is incorrect. I don;t see how that allows much room for dialogue. When one states a point as being "BIBLICAL" and then gives a defence of why nothing else can be considered Biblical, that pretty much ends any way to comnent on other ways to understand their view point. I found some very excellent positive points out w I don't fully agree with. I doubt you will find too many, who totally agree with everything the book says. One area I found I did not agree was on the issue of culture. The authors felt that women staying qiuet was NOT a cultural issue, but should apply today. I do not believe that the culture of Pauls time is to be the same today. I suppose that Iran, Iraq and other countries are quite close to Pauls time. I don't know of anyone who wants or agrees with that. I reject that a woman can not teach in a congreational setting. We send woman as missionaries all over the world with no man. These wommeen do teach all the people regaurdless of sex. This subject is dealt away with on the top of page 180. The way the author does it there is no way to try and show any other way of understanding womans ministry. In the fifth paragraph down onpage 180 the author elimates any dialogue as he says "...the arguements for alternative interpretations are not convincing." What is there to say when a person believes there is no other way to understand but his? On page 184 second paragraph again he explains why in his opinon is the only way to believe, women are not to have positions of authority in the church. I am not believe in Evangelical Feminism. However I do believe we need to widen our understanding of Scripture and be able to distingush something that is cluteral from the message of Scripture in it's entiriety, within the context of the culture of the time it was written. This view is also wiped away by the author rather rapidly, and anyone with a different idea is quickly dismissed. I am not saying the book is all bad by any means. I am saying I think in a few areas there is too narrow a thinking and understanding of how deeply the Bible is written culture, and it takes extra effort to dig out and know the difference. So I would not say the book is not worth the 19.95 I payed for it in 1992. I just feel there are better ballance books I have read that in my opinion offer more for men amd women. The book has used some very good very consertive scholars. I am not advocating any agenda either for or against women in ministry. When one does a history of women in ministry, just in the United States I am reminded that without women there would be a totally different church of today. I would dare to say the majority of churches today are dependant upon women for most of childrens ministry, and in some denomations there are a number of women pastors. I am not advocating anything, I am stating the facts as there are now. I suppose if there were enough Godly men who really took the Christian life seriously and calling serve in the slghtest way, this might not be a reality. I honestly have mixed feelings about women as pastors, however there are women chaplains, and simular occupations. The proof of Gods call is confirmed by God. In Closing I could not debate the book, as much as how the authors get their understanding of what Scripture in the culture it was intended. There are some Scriptures that there is only one way to understand, and there is no room for debate. With understanding culture there is room for debate on some of the passages in the book. I hope this helps and is something for you consider. Blessings. justme |

2423 | "Women being silent" | Gal 3:28 | justme | 218379
Val: Your note is well done. My wife and have the same Seminary degrees and our beliefs and our understanding of Scripture are both the same as yours. I was not attempting to cause an outbreak of any kind. It just seems there is a genuine lack of allowing Culture to be involved in understanding Scripture. There is selective following of some verses. Example is the covering of hair. Thank you for you note. There is no reason for either side of this debate to disfellowship or be unkind to anyone. The fact is there is a majority of SBF that does not accept the fact women can be used of God in any position He seen fit. The same holds true for a man. Blessings. justme |

2424 | How Trinity of God is working? | Gal 4:6 | justme | 190341
Doc (:-) You have done a very down right honest response! How often some people try to explain the Trinity in all sorts of ways that make no rime or reason, eggs, water, and the like. I have no problem is saying like Deuteronomy 29:29 says that there are secrect things that belong to the Lord. There has to be somethings left for the Holy Father to explain to us, we don't know it all now. justme |

2425 | A Note of Thanks | Gal 6:2 | justme | 55154
Hank: I don't know what it is you went through. I do want you to know that it is YOU who I find encouraging, and I find you to be a Christian Elder that I deeply respect an honor. You have a fantastic way of correcting that is refreshing, yet gets the point right where it belongs. I fight some dragons that I often pray for relief form the Lord. I am reminded that my frame is but dust. Again I am encouraged that nothing can remove God's love for me. At times I have felt so inadiquate for this forum by my stupid ise of wrong spelling and things like that I have almost quit. But then a note od correction done in Christian love was sent by you to me. I thank you. I will add you to my special people prayer list. When you want me to remove you please letme know. God bless you Hank! agape, justme (Mike Fahrer) |

2426 | Why mean notes and answers? | Ephesians | justme | 50193
Dear Forum: Why do some of our brothers and sisters answer questions and or add notes with such mean attitudes? Today I received some of the most unkind notes I have ever gotten. I was deeply wounded. Is not the fact that I am a Christian, deserving of some honest, but not demeaning answer? I would ask that we all consider others more highly then ourselves. I sincerely enjoy this forum, but kindness ought to be as much a part of being a Christian as the requirement to love each other. Am I right? agape, justme |

2427 | Why mean notes and answers? | Ephesians | justme | 50270
Thank you. Your of course are right. The armor was left off I am sure. I was deeply wounded by the accuzation that I had given un godly advise as the where someone could get a free bible. I got a full 8 by 11 very small print letter ripping me to shreds. I would never do shuch athing and it tore at my heart . So I know my source and protection. Blessings upon you and you love for others. agape, justme |

2428 | Assurance of salvation | Eph 1:7 | justme | 219145
Mathaytes: There is a problem with giving the "Left Behind" books. The books are filled with fiction. That's why they are sold in the fiction department. These books were made to make a profit, and they sure did for both of the authors. For what you paid for these books you could have bought a nice set of Bible Commentaries, that are pure factual. I do not believe scaring people into making Jesus Lord, it seldom lasts. May I suggest the NIV Student Bible for your son. At twelve he is ready and this Bible is just what he will use for a long time. The NIV Student Bible answeres questions, just like the question he is dealing with now. I have given out many of these Bibles to yound people in the churches I have pastored in. All og our children got these Bibles, and our 35 year old sone still uses his even with his other Bibles. I really encourage you to do this. One of the authors of the books you mention has some very serious theological issues that cause me deep concern. When we mis fiction with such important Biblical Doctrines as the coming of the Lord Jesus, that is a HUGE problem for me. The same issue you are facing I have heard before when other have read these mixed truth with fiction books. How is you son to know what is fiction? I hope you see my point. God guide you in you special relationship with your son. justme |

2429 | Assurance of salvation | Eph 1:7 | justme | 219146
BradK (:-) These books are so much fiction that it's a wonder more pastors have not taken a stand against this mix mosh of fiction and truth. I have heard some say they surrendered to Christ after reading these books, but do they really know what was fiction and what was truth? I am a rather strict old bird on not missleading people. These books came out one at a time, and were rather costly, but profit was the reason for making them. I was raised on the KJV up until I was 20 or so, and it really was not that hard bathen. We have so much more accurate Bibles now and still we continue to feed our youn people books like the "Left Behind" books. They should be :Left Behind" in the trash can is my rather bold opinion. Blessings to you Brad. justme |

2430 | Saved: and then Lost forever? | Eph 1:13 | justme | 68291
I am wondering how one gets the Holy Spirit to release the Seal That has been put upon us as assurance that we are "Sealed" and our Salvation is secure. If there was a way to remove Gods seal of ownership of us, then would that not mean we have done the unpardonabile sin? Therefore we could never regain Gods grace and Mercy? The view that we can loose our salvation means that we will be eternaly lost does it not? justme |

2435 | If we sin, can we still go to heaven? | Eph 2:8 | justme | 190826
Acts2:38: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. I am most interested on what Scripture or Scriptures do you base your statement? I respect your view, and would like understand your how you come to the understanding that somkers go to hell. Noteworthy is the fact that many Christians have been smokers, C. S. Lewis being just one example. As a question, would a Christian that drank wine also be in the same catagory? In thinking about these issues how does Eph. 2:8 fall into your understanding of the situations above? Can we get to sinless perfection? What about 1 John 1:9 and 10? Thank you for taking the time to dialogue with me. Justme |

2436 | why do we baptize differently? | Eph 2:9 | justme | 101002
Compudex: Welcome to the Bible Study Forum. Just a note to say that there was baptism in the Old Testament period. When someone converted to Judiasm the were baptized. So baptism is baptism, not circumcision. I believe the men were also required to be circumcised too. I do believe if the latter were required today to become a Christian, perhaps accepting Christ might be a very serious choice to carefully consider, before walking the down to give your heart to Jesus. The group, or groups, who baptise in Jesus name only, would say right up fromt that if you have not been baptized in Jesus name ONLY that you are not saved. This is a very serious flaw, and goes against Matthew 29:19 which specficly says to baptize in the name of the Father, the SON, and the Holy Spirit. I would think perhaps you might not of known about the Name of Jesus Only group. They are very much a denomonation but I wish not to mention denomonations by name as this is what I understand Lockmans wishes. I hope this helps you some. Any responce? Blessings. I add one thing more. I think that when a believe delays being baptized for a good lenght of time, there is a serious question if this person has a said faith or saving faith. Jesus over and over says if we truly love Him we will obey His commands. Did Jesus not say the be Baptized? I think that says it pretty clearly. Not much of a loop hole there. ustme. |

2437 | why do we baptize differently? | Eph 2:9 | justme | 101154
Compudex: Yes, it is a fact baptism was and is still a sign there has been a change and renewal of the inner man. I would say repentence has always been a outward sign of baptism. From the time of Jesus there is even more signifiance with baptism. Now we also share in the Death, Burial and Ressurection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As for the the different WAYS of of baptism, some are immersed three times, once for each personhood of the Trinity; some are baptized foward with the face going into the water first; Some are sprinkled as babies, shortly after birth; Some sprinkled as older children or teenagers, and some as adults. I would not doubt there are other ways to baptize as well. There was once a lady in the hospital near death, because of pancreases cancer. I was pastoring a church that held the position that baptism is only done by immersion. Which I believed as well, and still do. This lady was incapable of getting out of her death bed. I presented Jesus Christ to her. With a receptive heart and mind, she became a new creature in Jesus Christ. We met together several times, read Scripture, and prayed. Several days after making Jesus Christ her Lord, she was most adamant she needed and insisted to be baptized. Bleieve me, there was no way this saint could be immeresed in water, this was a request that had no hope of taking place in her late stage of cancer. She was begging to be baptized! She had had such a regenerated heart in Christ, she would have just as soon drowned, if she just could have been baptized. I was filled with sorrow, as this lady was so wanting to be obediant to Christ. I shared this situation with a Methodist pastor friend. He suggested sprinkling her. I was not at all reluctant to see this was the clear solution to this saints request. I believe the intent of her heart demanded I do something to show God'd mercy and love for her. I went and explained to her sprinking was most acceptable, and showed her willingness to follow Christ. I prayed with her, sprinkled her, and she was so thrilled, and at peace. That evening she went home to be with Jesus Christ. Some might say this was unacceptable due to their understanding of Scripture. I can say that if this poor sin burdened woman could receive Christ, and beg to be baptized; and yet there are Christians (so they say) who refuse or delay making a public confession of Christ by baptism, I find this unacceptable! There is a serious flaw and more than likely than they profess Christ, but in reality do not possess Jesus Christ. I can see a child not being baptized because a parent will not permit baptism to take place, or because a church is waiting for a special date. However, these are exceptions that happen not too often. Show me a so called Christian who has not been baptized, within a reasonable time, and I will show you a defiant person who most proberly is not saved. I would add faith without action is not faith at all. We can not say I love Jesus and not follow the very first requirements Jesus made. Baptism saves no one. Baptism is genuime proof that true regeneration has taken place in the life of the believer. Would you agree with what I have said? Blessings. justme |

2438 | why do we baptize differently? | Eph 2:9 | justme | 101448
Compudex:-) Greetings. I think your heart is in the right place, and seeing believers baptized is a real encouragement for the whole body. Your church must be a growing church if you have baptismal services once a week. That isreally good to hear! A growing church is a church that is alive, and that's contagious. Blessings. justme |

2439 | What do you like about the church? | Eph 2:22 | justme | 118051
Rowdy: May I be nitpicky? None of the items "help us go to Heaven." The items you listed are things we use in worshiping and renewing, and growing in maturity in Christ Jesus. What I like about the "church is the worshiping of our Lord Jesus as a group of Christians we call the "church" or "Body" Nothing depends as much as my attitude in Worshiping the LORD. Blessings. justme |

Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the forum. Glad you are here! agape, justme |
