2342 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | justme | 183567
Doc: I totally agree with what you have said. I am glad you took time to respond to me. Often we jump into a dialogue and without someone (such as yourself) who has the background and learning to untwist what has been said. I look at the "Church" as a complete "Body of Christ" with those who have gone to be with Christ, those who are in Christ at this present moment, and those who are yet to come to Christ. For me I understand to three divisons as a total unit called the Church, or the Bride of Christ, and often said to be the Body of Believers, and Paul even describes the many parts of the body of Christ compared to the human body. I can see how the words "seen", "number", and "seem" can be confusing. This is especially true with your better wording. As for those who are the visable church, there is a drastic falling away from Scriptual teachings, the outlook is bleak as I see it. However, at the same time there are places some of which are in South America that the Good News of Jesus Christ is being received with open hearts. I have heard by some serving in Russia thatthere are places that small numbers are coming to Christ. Even though I do not see them personally come to Christ, they are part of the visable church. Perhaps, if the return of Christ is many days away, or even centuries away, there are those who will come to Christ. Every person to come to Christ adds to the number, and growth of the Church. What I am attempting to say is, I see the Church in it's complete state, just as it is toady. As the Holy Father sees and knows the begining and end of the world, is how I describe the total Church. In presenting this I can see that it may be hard to follow, and I do appologize if this seems I was referring to only the visable church. I sincerely had or have no intentions of causing a controversy that would divide us into sides and cause hostility amoung the forum. That would be totally against everything I understand and practice as a Christian. Again thank you for your note. Blessings Doc. justme |

2344 | speaking in tounges | 1 Cor 12:30 | justme | 215033
walkfor Christ: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. The beliefe that unless you speak in tounges that you don't have have the Holy Spirit is not supported in Scripture. As a note the use of the "Holy Ghost" is not correct. There is only one place in Scripture the word "Ghost" and it is not connected with the "Holy Spirit". The Word of Faith movement and the Pentacostal churches believe you must speak in tounges. I have always been puzzled at why only the gift of tounges is the most desired gift by some, when I ask what about the gioft of helps, giving, and encouragement? These gifts are certianly equally as important. justme |

Steve, thanks for the help, I did not mean to say all, and you are correct. I do believe the majority do, or am I under a false understanding. I always appreciate when someone takes the time to help me have a better understanding or correct me in a mistake. Thanks brother Steve. justme |

2349 | Church sound system "way too loud" | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 147768
Kalos:-) Wow, the problem is not unique, and Kalos there is hope for your friend that you clearly care deeply about. I too know someone with this very same hearing problem. Except Mike has it in both ears. There is a constant loud ringing, and at times he says it sounds like many birds cherping. He goes to sleep at night with the Hymns of music, to drownd out the constant noise. Even with hearing aids he is always hering these very loud ringing or cherping sounds. Mike tried seating in the middle of the church, in front, and finally in the far back, nothing really helped. The biggest help turned out to be the foam ear plugs that some what lessen the loudness . The idea of hearing assistance by earphones might be worth a try. Let me assure I really understand what this friend of yours is going through. I know because I am the person above. I have had this for more than 35 years. Blessings dear Kalos. justme |

2350 | Church sound system "way too loud" | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 147792
Kalos: I am unable to hera much of what is being said, so amplification does not cause me pain from a church sound system. However a music concert is a different story. My hearing aids are of little use except to hear paper crumble very loudly, I can hear the transmission sift very nicely, doors close, all the things that you don't really want to hear:-( The ear pulgs I refer toare like a thick foam rubber, WalMart sells them. Blessings to Lee and you. justme |

2351 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 212337
catmandel: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. I like the way you are carefully thinking about the speaking in tongues. "I am still confused." The Lord is not the author of confusion, and that you can be very sure of. Those who are saying you need to speak in tongues to prove you are saved are very much mistaken, and it's not Biblical at all. Toungues are listed as a gift, and if it is active today, does asking for something to prove you are saved have any Scriptual basis? Demanding someone to prove their salvation by demonstration of any gift is totally twisting Scripture. I have never heard of anyone asking for the gift of helps, or giving, and these gifts are important for the body of Christ. I think if you got a statement of belief from this church you just might see some other things that make you confused as well. If you have surrendered to Jesus Christ then you are saved by faith. To add anything additional requirements is wrong. You will want to follow Christ in baptism to show your obedience and desire to follow Jesus Christ as Lord of your life. Those people who say you must speak in tongues have been pressured into speaking jibberish just to prove they are saved, and that is a false teaching. Beware catmandel, this is very wrong. Get to a Bible believing church asap. Blessings. justme |

2352 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 212373
flyman: If I follow the "logic" then everyone who has not spoke in tongues is unsaved, correct? If there is a contradiction in scripture, then how do we know who to believe if some other writters don't seem to agree? If there are contradictions, then there must be things we can't trust? If all the above is true, how can we believe any of the Bible? If there are contradictions then that means there are errors in the Bible? This all seems logical does it not? May I say that you have to come to the point that your logic is nor correct or the Bible does NOT have contradictions. flyman, you need to come to the conclusion that there must be more to understanding Scripture than you are aware of. The key point being you can either trust the Bible completly, or you can continue to find contradictions and errors and thus call into question the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. Because you mentioned tongues, this is mentioned in Acts, and Pauls writtings as well. Following the logic you stated, then because Jesus never even discussed this subject so then tongues is subject to be a contradiction. The point I am trying to bring to your attention is what you have said may seem logical to you, but you are lacking a solid foundation upon which to make logical statements. Here are a few places in Scripture that shoulf help you have a better understanding if Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20. May I suggest you take the New Testament book by book and read them. You will soon see that you have taken logic in Scripture out of context. justme |

2353 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 212402
Flyman: Thank you for your response. I fully understand where you are coming from. There is only one sure solution to your questions. The answer to you understanding the Scriptures is ib studing the Scriptures. Get a Greek English New Testament and read it. Everything anyone can or will say means little, but the actual Word od God with the Holy Spirit will teach you and give you wisdom in all the areas that present a challenge. Blessings and merry Christmas. justme |

In 1 CORINTHIANS 12:8 the gifte of "the "word of knowledge". Agter a lengthy search, I am not sure what this gift is and does. I would like to know more about this from scripture. If you can help and USE SCRIPTURE to back up your answer, please.
2355 | Speaking In Tounges | 1 Cor 14:13 | justme | 174263
Gen Betrayed: What you discribe seems to go hand and hand with the Word of Faith Movement, which has destroyed many peoples faith. Speaking in tounges is a gift as I read Scripture. Is something a gift if I have to ask for it? I do not think so. Why is this gift so desired above giving, teaching, helps, and so on? Paul says it's the least of all the gifts. I think you has perfect reason to feel more than uncomfortable. I think asking people to try and speak in tounges is not Scriptual, and I would shake the dust off your shoes and move on to a Bible teaching Church. I do believe the Lord can use any gift He so wants, but God does not go against Hiw word, as this Pastor was suggesting the people to do. You have a good response to listening to the Holy Spirit, keep listening and be in prayer for God to led you to a good church. Blessings. Justme |

2356 | A bit confused regarding tongues | 1 Cor 14:22 | justme | 79502
MPierce: Welcome to the Forum! Wow, you asked some really good questions, which shows me you are tring to know what being a Christian is all about. I would imagine there are a lot of answers given about speaking in tongues. To say there is great division about tongues is an understatement. Having said that, I have my own bias and it is from that view point I can only address as I understand tongues. I will try and make this brief and easy to follow, I hope. I believe Scripture teaches the following. Tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit. We are not all given the same gifts. The gifts are to equip the body of Christ (the Church, born again, saved, Christians) for ministry. You don't ask for a gift, or it would not be a "gift". I do not recall ever hearing of Christians asking for the gift of "helps' or "hospitality" or "giving" and the list of the "gifts" goes on. Why do some "ask"? I can find no scriptual basis to ask for a gift of the Holy Spirit. I am perplexed how one can prove from Scripture speaking in tongues is to be taught to others. That would then be teaching others, would it not? How then is that a "gift of the Holy Spirit? In my opinion it is not a gift then, but a teaching. I believe there may well be the active "gift of tongues" if it is done as outlined in scripture. Often today we see the same person giving the meaning of the tongues after speaking in tongues. This is totally not done in line with what Scripture says. There must be the meaning given by some else or the tongues are false. When speaking in tongues is tied to proof of salvation I believe that is Biblically unfounded and becomes a way of making people say gibberish that is not from the Holy Spirit. As I stated there may well be the "gift of tongues" today, I believe tongues are genuine to a far less extent then most tongue talkers will admit, for in certian groups there is great pressure put on especially new Christians to prove they are saved by speaking anything to get the attention off themselves. Paul even said tongues was the least desireable gifts. Perhaps no other "gift" has caused more misunderstandings, and borken fellowship with other Christians than the "gift of tongues". I personally do not think speaking in tounges is reason to cause a brake in fellowship. There are many understandings and views by very well trained theologians, and they do not agree. So with respect for my other fellow Forum members I encourage you to move slowly and study the Word, and what ever conclusion you come to, which may change as you mature, have it based solidly on the Word. Blessings and pray for peace. justme |

2357 | New culture, and a new welcome? | 1 Cor 14:24 | justme | 237910
Today men and women have tattoo's of all kinds, in highly visible places, and some with sexual overtones, and some naked pictures. The words are sometime's raw in meaning. A number of folks are not christians, and are coming to find about God. No one would turn away those seeking Jesus, or those who just came on just wnating to see what a church is all about. What should we say or do, beyond saying welcome to the House of God? |

2358 | Hi JesusFreak | 1 Cor 14:34 | justme | 58988
Melanie: Welcome to the Forum! Every one is welcome, and the Forum is a place we show respect and kindness. I am sad when I read unkind things you have said about Kalos. Kalos has been with the Forun form Feb. 2001 and contributed almost 3000 noted and answers. Where as you have been with us 5 days and written 96 mostly notes. You have been quite busy! I kindly express in very sincere terms that you should learn your way as who is the "poor man"! Kalos is not the poor man by any means! I also suggest you read the notes in green that you agree to when submitting a note. Is down grading Kalos publicly, for anyone who comes on this web site read, a responce you are proud of? Frankly, when I see in 5 days you have written 96 itens it concerns me. This is not a chat room! Perhaps if you have nothing better to do than down grade Forum people who try their best to abide with the forum's rules, you might find better use of you time gossiping elsewhere. I am being quite direct with you but I do so with the hope you can see the Forum a little more serious, as most of us do. Even if I totally disagree theologically with someone I do not have to down grade or belittle them for all to read. I hope you stay with us, but be more sensitive about respecting others. agape, justme |

2359 | Hi JesusFreak | 1 Cor 14:34 | justme | 59021
Melanie: I have never seen anyone put out mass quanity of notes and answers as you. I am not questioning your walk. I question if you understand what this Forum is about. The Forum is not a chat room! There is no way for you to answer now over 100 items in less than 110 hours, with giving proper time to pray and read the profile background and all the background notes to have the information you need to answer things with a well informed and right spirit. You appear to be very impulsive. Perhaps you need to consider what Kalos has said with humility, rather than defensiveness. You should know if Kalos had said something unkind about you I would say the same to him. I am not playing selective pick on you. I only am tring to make your time on the forum, a time that will be encouraging and uplifting for everyone! The choice is yours of course. However, I see no need to continue to justify the Forum rules, or Kakos, to you. I have more needs in spiritual issues to be involved with this Forum. You take what advice I give and sift through it, if there is is something that is worth while to you, good. If you feel my suggestions are of no value, than toss them to the wind. I hope this settles our discussion, for there is nothing further for either of us to say. Blessings, justme. |

2360 | Is it lawful for women to be preachers? | 1 Cor 14:34 | justme | 163868
Lwaful is one thing, dealing with the legal system, and in our country it is "lawful" However the better question is " Does God call women to be pastors?" Better yet is the question I can answer with assurance. Does God call women into ministry? Yes! I have serious concerns that Biblical instruction is lacking for women being in the position od Pastor. Women in leadership ministries are effective, and I believe Biblical in every position except as Pastor. God forgive me if I am wrong. Blessings. justme |
