581 | Mercy can only go so far... right? | Eph 5:5 | inmyheart | 67703
malspa. May I suggest that you read and study the below scripture. Romans 12: 1. Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual[1] act of worship. 2. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. I'll agree with you in prayer for tomorrow, but then again, why wait, receive the gift now :) God bless |

583 | Filled by the holy spirit? | Eph 5:18 | inmyheart | 59313
Here is some information to your question. Ephesians 5:18. (18) Walking in the light means constantly being filled with the Holy Spirit a. In contrast with the conduct of the world (being drunk with wine), we are to be filled with the Spirit - and the grammar clearly says "be constantly being filled with the Holy Spirit" b. The filling of the Holy Spirit is not a one-time event that we live off of the rest of our days; it is a constant filling, asking to be filled, and receiving the filling by faith i. Though, there is a wonderful and significant first experience with the filling of the Holy Spirit, often thought of as the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:5 and 11:16), an experience valid and important for every believer ii. Much of the weakness, defeat and lethargy in our spiritual lives can be attributed to the fact that we are not constantly being filled with the Holy Spirit d. The grammar also indicates two other important things: the verb is also passive, so this is not a manufactured experience; and it is imperative, so this is not an optional experience! e. The carnal contrast to being filled with the Holy Spirit is being drunk; the Bible condemns drunkenness without reservation i. Paul here calls it dissipation; drunkenness is a waste of resources that should be submitted to Jesus ii. Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise. (Proverbs 20:1); Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long at the wine, those who go in search of mixed wine. Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, when it swirls around smoothly; at the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. (Proverbs 23:29-33) iii. We must not think that only being "falling down drunk" is a sin; but being impaired in any way by drink is sin, as well as drinking with the intention of becoming impaired iv. "The danger of drunkenness lies not only in itself but in what it may induce." (Wood) Yearly, in the United States, alcohol is responsible for almost 100,000 deaths (25,000 by drunk drivers alone), 6 million non-fatal injuries, and more than 100 billion in economic losses such as unemployment and loss of productivity f. Alcohol is a depressant; it "loosens" people because it depresses their self-control, their wisdom, their balance and judgment. The Holy Spirit has an exactly opposite effect; He is a stimulant; He moves every aspect of our being to better and more perfect performance. God bless |

586 | love...as himself (if no self-love?) | Eph 5:33 | inmyheart | 65467
How husbands walk in the light: loving their wives. The model for the husband's love is nothing less that the totally self-giving love of Jesus; "husbands are to set aside their natural selfishness" and care for their own wives as their would themselves. Self-love is found in Christ Jesus, when we surrender all. We are to lose our lives(no matter how good we thought we were), so we can find our life in Jesus. The paradox: finding life by losing it a. Jesus asks us to look beyond immediate gratification, because the immediate loss is worth the ultimate gain, even though the loss is completely repulsive to our flesh. b. This ultimate gain is given on that day when He will reward each according to his works; if we live life blind to this truth, we really will lose our own soul.(Matthew 16:25-27) |

587 | Is reverence feasible? Always? | Eph 5:33 | inmyheart | 66294
Mark, You quote, "However, Paul states in 1 Timothy 2:12, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." But here is a instance where the woman not only wasn't silent, but spoke up and brought the whole town out to meet Jesus! :) John 4: 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. 27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. You also stated, "And I hope to instill that in mommapbs, Emmaus, and everyone else on the forum." Mark, this is not your purpose, that God wants to fullfill in your life. What are you going to instill in everyone on this forum that God has already done? Surely not teach the truth, I quote from the below verses; 1 John 2: 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. 26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, AND YE NEED NOT THAT ANY MAN TEACH YOU: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. Mark, we are family, the family of God, let's speak to each other as such! God bless |

588 | whole armour and significance | Eph 6:13 | inmyheart | 76531
eze, The Helmet of Salvation: The Helmet protects the mind. The Breastplate of Righteousness: The Breastplate protects the heart. The Gird of Truth: The Gird serves two purposes. One, it hold the sword at the ready. Two, it protects your bowels of belief. Shod with the Preparation of the Gospel: The leg and foot armor protects your mobility. During a conflict with the devil, the Helmet, Breastplate, Gird, legging and foot armor will protect the more vulnerable parts of the body. But, there are still places that the darts of the devil can get through to wound you. For these, the shield and the sword are used. The Shield of Faith: The shield is mainly a defensive weapon. You must learn how to use it, for it to be effective. It must always be kept at the ready. Even a small shield, if used properly, is sufficient to protect every open area. However, to protect these areas, one must anticipate where the devil is aiming, (usually, at your greatest weakness), and be ever ready to swiftly move it to resist the next attack. (Putting down your shield, could cost you your life!) The Sword of the Word of God: The sword is mainly a offensive weapon. You must learn how to use it, for it to be effective. To wield this weapon skillfully against the devil, and to discourage his challenges, one must study how it was used by the Master. Each time His sword was drawn, it was swiftly, skillfully, and accurately used to produce the desired effect. Warning: This sword has two edges, and cuts both ways. One must know this weapon well. And constantly Practice, practice, practice! God bless |

589 | does bible teach eternal security? | Phil 1:6 | inmyheart | 60609
1John 5:13, These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; "that ye may know" that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.(KJV). When God writes your name in the Book of Life, He does not have an eraser. However, He saves us from the wrath that will come, so once saved means there is no benefits living in the world, so there is no reason to go back. A just man falls seven times and gets back up, because He is falling forward, not backward. God Bless |

591 | Divorce | 1 Thess 4:3 | inmyheart | 77603
AnneDenise, First of all, the divine standard for marriage is lifelong commitment to one's spouse, and nothing else. Even though divorce was permitted in some cases under the Old Testament economy, Christ made it plain that this was not God's ideal. When He was asked this very question, "He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Matthew 19:4-6). This seems very comprehensive and conclusive, yet He immediately followed up this statement with the following apparent exception: "Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery" (Matthew 19:9; see also Matthew 5:31, 32). It does seem from this statement that the discovery of extramarital unchastity on the part of one' spouse is here given as a possible grounds for divorce. God does place a high value on faithfulness, on the part of both bride and bridegroom, as a basis for a happy and lasting marriage. Fornication is condemned as a sin in both Old and New Testaments. In this day of widespread sexual license, however, this provision might well become a rather common ground for divorce, even among Christians. It does, indeed, dilute the principle of "one flesh" used by God to describe a true marriage. "What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? For two, saith He, shall be one flesh . . . Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body: but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body" (I Corinthians 6:16, 18). This passage, incidentally, suggests that a woman who submits to extramarital sex becomes, in God's sight, a harlot, whether she yields her body for money or some other reason that she sees as profitable to herself. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that Jesus, evidently on a different occasion, did not give fornication as an excuse for divorce. "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery" (Luke 16:18). If there is any doubt, this also applies to wives. "And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery" (Mark 10:12). Since the Lord would not contradict Himself, we should conclude that, while there may be some situations in which extramarital sex would create such problems in a marriage that divorce would be better than continuing in an unhealthy or even dangerous relationship, in general it would be better to forgive earlier indiscretions (if accompanied by repentance and present faithfulness) rather than to break up what might otherwise still be a good marriage. In both cases, however, Christ warned that remarriage after divorce amounts to adultery, a sin which is explicitly forbidden by God's seventh Commandment. Both divorce and remarriage, therefore, are extremely serious steps, and both violate the divine principle of permanent union and faithfulness in marriage. God bless |

592 | what does this verse say?1thes4:16 | 1 Thess 4:16 | inmyheart | 61911
1Thes. 4:15-16 says; (15-16) Those asleep in Christ are not at a disadvantage a. By the word of the Lord emphasizes that this is an authoritative command, whether Paul received this by direct revelation or if it is an unrecorded saying of Jesus; it comes from Jesus, not Paul b. The Thessalonians were afraid that the dead in Christ would miss out, but Paul assures them that those gone on before them won't feel cheated at not being on earth when Jesus comes back to this earth, because the dead in Christ will gain first benefit c. The shout here is the same word used for a ship's master to his rowers, or a commander to his soldier; "Always there is the ring of authority and the note of urgency." (Morris) d. What does it mean that the dead in Christ are gathered with the trumpet of God? In the Old Testament, trumpets sounded the alarm for war, and threw the enemy into a panic (in the sense of the seven trumpets described in Revelation 8-9); or the sounding of trumpets called for an assembly of God's people (as here) e. How are the dead in Christ raised first? Do they have "temporary bodies" now, or are they disembodied spirits? Or do they get in on the resurrection right away? i. We don't really know for certain; these things were written not to satisfy our curiosity, but to comfort and get us ready. Courtsey of blueletterbible.com God bless |

mommpabs, Greetings! I'm thinking of you with the following verses. Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 2 Corinthians 7:12-13, So even though I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong or of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are. By all this we are ENCOURAGED. God bless you my friend!!! |

596 | Hurting words, hurt people? | 1 Tim 6:4 | inmyheart | 57343
justme, I believe that the Lord has the last hand in what you speak of. When you post to others, are you impacting their lives? And at the same time isn't your own life being impacted? When the Lord Jesus spoke from the cross and said "Forgive them for they know not what they do," Well guess what, it still applies today. I'm not condoning that a person should be insensitive or even down right rude, but our heart should be set on praying for these individuals.(or you can report an abuse) I encourage you my friend to "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction." 2Timothy4:2(NIV) God bless you justme, it's always my pleasure to correspond to you. I know you will do God's will concerning this matter. |

597 | Try looking it up in the Bible. | 2 Tim 3:16 | inmyheart | 58076
The enjoyment of being on this forum is having the fellowship through answering a persons question. If we follow your post, and its not a bad suggestion, there would be little interacting. Or if you are tired of reposting the same answers, take a break and let someone else handle it. I appreciate what you have posted. I have read others who have said "use the quick search," however this sounds too impersonal. Someone maybe asking a sincere question, and when they get a response like "research it yourself," they may feel rejected. And yes, I'm aware of the terms of use, this is my opinion. And there are those who want answers for their bible studies without taking the time to study it for themselves, but so be it. God bless |

598 | What are the qualification for an elder | Titus 1:5 | inmyheart | 67534
Jr. Deacon Theo, here is some info that you requested. God Bless. The elder is a leader in the Christian church. It is a divinely appointed office that is held by men who are able to teach sound doctrine, refute error, be of good reputation, having believing children, who manage their households well, etc. The elder should not be in office if he is unable to fulfill the requirements of the office and he should not be chosen because he is a popular figure in the local church. Being an elder is a high calling and there are thousands of very godly men in many churches and who seek God and serve Him as best as they can. But, it is also true that many should not be elders who are in that position. Women, should not be elder's. Men with unbelieving children living with them should not be elders. And, elders should be able to teach correct doctrine and refute error. Sadly, many elders cannot do this. Qualifications for an elder: Must be above reproach (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim. 3:2) Husband of one wife (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim. 3:2). Household must be in order with children who believe (Titus 1:6 ;1 Tim. 3:4). Not a new convert (1 Tim. 3:6). Self controlled and temperate (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim. 3:2). Honorable, hospitable, seeking good (Titus 1:7). Have a good reputation (1 Tim. 3:7). Not addicted to wine (1 Tim. 3:3). Not greedy (1 Tim. 3:3). Able to exhort (teach) sound doctrine (Titus 1:9; 1 Tim. 3:2). Able to refute false teaching (Titus 1:9). They must be ready to earn their own living if necessary (Acts 20:17, 33-35). |

599 | I've sinned,can't pay no more, repented | Titus 1:6 | inmyheart | 69818
vonroskie, Proverbs 24:16 For a just [man] falleth seven times, and riseth again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. (1.) The righteous man, whose ruin was expected, recovers himself. He falls seven times into trouble, but, by the blessing of God upon his wisdom and integrity, he rises again, sees through his troubles and sees better times after them. The just man falls, sometimes falls seven times perhaps, into sin, sins of infirmity, through the surprise of temptation; but he rises again by repentance, finds mercy with God, and regains his peace. (2.) The wicked man, who expected to see his ruin and to help it forward, is undone. He falls into mischief; his sins and his troubles are his utter destruction. You are a leader! You know what to do! God Bless |

600 | What do you do as "saints" when you fall | Hebrews | inmyheart | 51398
Greetings You're going to get a lot of response on this question! Let me start by saying that God is the one who calls us "SAINTS", He is also the one who will "never" leave us nor "forsake" us.(Hebrews 13:5) The Word mentions in Proverbs 24:16, "For "a" just "man" falleth "seven" times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall "fall" into mischief." After reading the scripture that I just wrote, are you a "just" man or a wicked man? We are "in" Christ Jesus and God calls us "RIGHTEOUS". Out of the abundance of the "heart" speaks the mouth (Luke 6:45), you stated that you are realizing just how hard it is to be a Christian, well in our own mind that might be true because we are faced with situations that we are not familiar with, and it may seem hard at the moment, until we get our break through, then we realize that we've beat ourselves up for nothing. I would like for you to read Matthew 11:28-30, Let me quote what Jesus says in verse 30, "For my yoke is "easy" and my burden is light", do you see "hard" in there at all? No you don't and I"m not suggesting that we float through this life expecting no problems or that all of our experiences will be pleasureable. What I am saying to you my friend is that you are in the process of having your minds "renewed" (Romans 12:2) Our Lord is changing us day by day, because we are not able to "Kingdom walk" with our old way of thinking, we need the mind of Christ, and my friend the Word of God declares that you "have" the "mind of Christ" (1Corinthians 2:16)! What do you do when as a "saint" when you fall down? Get back up! Don't let the enemy discourage you! We are not bad people trying to be good, but we are sinners saved by Grace! The problem is not what you fall down for, those are your solutions for the problem, the wrong solutions. The problems lays within in ourselves, and the Lord is doing a work in your life to rid you of those problems (hurts, pains, sufferings, etc.) to bring a closure of those areas that we continue to carry, now that's hard! God has set you free, but He is also making you free (when you come to those situations). Finally beloved, rejoice and be thankful because you are being real about your situation, so many "saints" want to "act" as if there is no problems in there life. Never forget, God called you because you have a purpose and a destiny. He Loves you and He'll take you to your destination. God is the author of your Faith, and He is the Finisher of your Faith (Hebrews 12:2) He sees you in the His completed work in your life. So much so, that God wrote "your" name in THE BOOK OF LIFE. God Bless you my friend, it has been my pleasure to respond to you! |
