542 | IS TONGUES FOR TODAY? | 1 Cor 14:5 | inmyheart | 54679
This topic has been well debated. However :) everything we do we do in faith. When we pray we pray in faith, when we walk, we walk in faith and when we ask for Spiritual gifts, we ask in faith, read Luke 11:13. Acts 19:2-6(NIV), and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spririt when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." So Paul asked, "Then what baptisim did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied. Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus. On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, AND THEY SPOKE IN TONGUES and prophesied. What is the answer? In Luke 11:13, you ASK. In Acts 19:2-6, by LAYING ON OF HANDS. God bless |

Searcher, Greetings, and thank you for your response, however, as I had mentioned in my post that this has been a well debated topic. The poster asked, "these people believe they get tongues by faith. What is the answer?" I have given my answer to the best of my ability. I agree with you, not everyone will be given the gift of tongues....only the ones who ask in faith. Can a person be saved by not being baptized or not speaking in tongues? This to has been a well debated topic, and my belief is yes. I want to be on the receiving end when it comes to gifts, and if tongues in one of them, then so be it. God bless |

546 | IS TONGUES FOR TODAY? | 1 Cor 14:5 | inmyheart | 55050
Joe-- My very first post to this thread, I mentioned that this topic has been well debated! I for one happen to believe in "all" the gifts. I believe the evidence of the Holy Spirit in a person's life is Love. Salvation is Romans 10:9-10 A person can be saved without being baptized (however, I don't know why a person wouldn't want to), or without speaking in tongues (again, I don't know why one wouldn't want to). You know how I view this site, a great oppurtunity to grow. I have read some great wisdom and revelation here. I take what I want and leave the rest. The other reason I enjoy this site is, it's a great place to win souls. And what I mean is this, there are so many brother and sister's struggling and they come here, do we dare shoot them down or do we (we, figure of speach) utilize the five fold ministry, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ, as written in Eph.413. I live in a big city, and not everybody attends the same (Christian) fellowship, and many have different doctrines, however God loves them, so do I. Thanks for your response, I'm here to study and Lord willing, lend a encouraging hand. God bless. |

548 | IS TONGUES FOR TODAY? | 1 Cor 14:5 | inmyheart | 55346
Thank you for your response, however, will you give your view as I requested? What is the good thing of speaking in tongues, forget the bad thing. Yes, I know you're not attacking speaking in tongues. God bless |

549 | IS TONGUES FOR TODAY? | 1 Cor 14:5 | inmyheart | 55357
Aspilos, Once again, thank you for your prompt reply. I agree with you concerning the day of Pentecost, that there were devout unbelieving Jews. What would be the difference in this present day. There are many unbelievers, Jews and Gentile's, so wouldn't tongues be for a sign today? Once again, taking the gospel to the lost so they may have a relationship with God through our Lord and Savior, Jesus, is the only requirement for salvation. God bless you, talk to you tomorrow, I'm in the middle of a study. Be a blessing! |

550 | I used to look forward to coming here | 1 Cor 14:33 | inmyheart | 62282
christian7, Greetings to you my christian friend. Let God take you through this point of your growth. I quote from these two scriptures; "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved" Hebrews 10:39 (NIV). "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that you labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1Corinthians 15:57-58 (NIV). The majority, (I pray), are your brothers and sisters here on the forum. At times we bump heads, as we have, and will, but this is still good training ground for us all. Can you see the fight in the dark world that we face daily, but glory to God we have the victory, we know our savior Jesus. This forum in no way compares to the people of the world. Remember what 1Cor.1:18 says, that the preaching of the cross to them who are perishing is foolishness, but to US who are saved, it's the POWER of God. I'm here to say that the devil is a liar, your best days and your blessed days are still ahead of you, so stay and be a blessing to others. God loves you and so do I! God Bless P.S. God didn't call to be the victim of your circumstances. but to be the victor over your circumstances. |

552 | women should keep silent in church | 1 Cor 14:34 | inmyheart | 63258
Women's shouldn't be judging prophecy or disrupting meetings. Paul has already assumed the right of women to pray or prophecy publicly (1Cor.11:1-16); here he probably is emphasizing the right of women to judge prophecy, something restricted to the male leadership of the church. As well, women (or men for that matter) shouldn't be disrupting meetings with questions or chatter. God bless |

553 | Posting a privilege, not a right | 1 Cor 16:14 | inmyheart | 83293
Radioman2, I took the time to review the Terms of Use and found no statement "Posting to the forum is not a right; it is a privilege. To abuse it is to lose it." However, I did find in part the following; You must abide by the following rules in connection with your use of the Forums: * Limit content that contians known denominational biases that produce potential strife and undue conflict * You agree to interact with each other in a Christian spirit, with respect and grace. * You understand that the Forum does not provide the advantage of live, personal interaction. Therefore, the use of humor or extreme brevity in a written message could sometimes be misunderstood and, at times, cause frustration, discouragement or conflict with others and should therefore be avoided. * Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. (Colossians 4:6) * You agree to post only messages that relate to the subject matter and intended purpose of the Forum as determined by Lockman. * You agree not to post, email or otherwise transmit any Postings that are unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable. 554 | When does caressing go too far ? | 2 Corinthians | inmyheart | 52866
"So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come." 2Corinthians 5:16-17 (NIV). "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies." Ephesians 5:25-28 (NIV). Knowing how the enemy wants to pervert the things of God? Is when you begin to question where that fine line is! Loving and lusting are two worlds apart, I hear what you are saying. I was caught up in all of what you are saying. I even justified my actions by reading Song of Songs :) but come on now, I was looking for my fix, I wanted that old nature, just one more time :) Praise God, that old devil is a liar! I have LEARNED that I can do ALL things through Christ :) His good will. In closing, the husband and wife's body belongs to the Lord! "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2 (NIV). I know you know what I'm saying, amen? Just let go and let God! :) God's Grace and Mercy, He loves you! |

555 | When does caressing go too far ? | 2 Corinthians | inmyheart | 52870
2. (4) Honor marital love a. The Bible strictly condemns sex outside of the marriage commitment, but celebrates sexuality within the commitment of marriage (see The Song of Solomon) i. "Fornication and adultery are not synonymous in the New Testament: adultery implies unfaithfulness by either party to the marriage vow, while the word translated "fornication" covers a wide range of sexual irregularities" (Bruce) b. Many, through a past of sexual sin, have a difficult time really believing that the marriage bed is undefiled; guilt and sexual hang-ups are appropriate to extra-marital sex, but not in marital sex (where they most frequently cause trouble) i. Understand that a Biblical concept of sexuality is under attack from the world, the flesh and the Devil c. Though God allows real freedom in the variety of sexual expression in marriage, all must be done with a concern for the other's needs and in love (1 Corinthians 7:2-5; Ephesians 5:21-33) The above is a cut from a commentary. I hear you also, however the "anything goes" concept is also a fine line. Lets say if a person was bound by sexual perversion or lust, do you tell them anything goes? Just like a person who was bound by alcohol, do you tell them that "a little wine is good for the stomach? Or Jesus turned the water into wine! All I'm saying "don't be a stumbling block to a brother of sister! Thank you for your response Jeshuafreak. That's a cool name :) |

556 | When does caressing go too far ? | 2 Corinthians | inmyheart | 53270
Levite, Yes, Praise His mighty Name! "This is love for God: to obey his commands. And His commands are not "burdensome," for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our "faith". Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." 1John 5:3-5 (NIV) God Bless you, and thank you for your encouragement! |

557 | I won"t be saved if I don't tithe | 2 Corinthians | inmyheart | 63204
From 2Cor.9:7 Giving should come from a right heart. a. Our giving reveals the purpose of our heart; where our treasure is, our heart will be also. b. God doesn't want our grudging gifts; He looks for cheerful (the Greek uses the word from which we get our word hilarious) giving! c. True giving also gives us a happy heart. i. The poet Carlyle said that when he was a boy, a beggar came to the door when his parents were gone. On a youthful impulse, he rushed to his room, broke his piggy-bank and gave the beggar all the money. He said that never before or since had he known such sheer happiness as came to him in that moment. ii. Ananias and Sapphira: examples of giving for the wrong reasons, not out of a cheerful heart. d. Remember that God's giving of His grace is the complete opposite of grudging and forced; He delights to give His love to us i. "It is not difficult to suggest why God delights in the cheerful giver. He himself is such a giver and desires to see this characteristic restored among those who were created in his image." (Kruse)(from blueletterbible) On the other hand, what would happen if you lost all of your wages? Are we looking to our Father in heaven to meet our provisions, or we trusting in ourselves? You are saved by God's Grace(Rom.3:24). As the commentary above says, God is developing our characteristics. "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poure into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:37-38 (NIV). God bless |
