382 | Believing in the Bible | Bible general Archive 1 | inmyheart | 65063
Greetings What you should understand is when you are speaking to other people is that you are planting seeds into their lives. Meaning, that the Word of God will not go back void to God. They may not believe right now, but so did we when we were unbelivers! Let your life be the bible (2Corinthians 3:2) and demonstrate that God is alive in your life. Don't forget, the Word of God says in 1 Corinthians 1:18, that the preaching of the cross is foolishness to them who are perishing, or spiritually dead. Finally, continual to pray for you friends, or anytime you enter into witnessing. Remember the devil is a liar, and will use your friends to discourage you, but don't fall for that scheme. I leave you with this verse for you to read; 1 Corinthians 15:57-58. God bless you, "with God all things are possible!" |

384 | Never defend myself or others ag. evil? | Matt 5:39 | inmyheart | 64686
Jesus presents the fullness of this law: the non-resistance of evil. This is a radical command, but not an absolute one: Jesus Himself resisted evil when He turned tables in the temple. This principle is also relevant to personal relationships, and not to the proper functions of government in restraining evil (Romans 13:1-4); I must turn my cheek when I am personally insulted (the cultural meaning of a slap on the cheek), but the government has a responsibility to restrain the evil man from physical assault. Jesus also displayed the principle behind the law in His trials before the Sanhedrin and Pilate: we are to let God defend our case, not ourselves. Positively, we are told to take command of evil impositions by making a deliberate choice to give more than we are required. Roman law commanded Jews (in their Judean occupation) to carry the pack of any Roman soldier, but only for one mile; Jesus is saying "go beyond the one mile required by law and give another mile out of a free choice of love." This is how we change someone's attempt to manipulate us into our free act of love. The only limit to this kind of sacrifice is the limit that love itself will impose; it isn't love to give into someone's manipulation without our transforming it into a free act of love; it isn't always love to give or to not resist. Jesus clearly says that "we are not to resist the evil person;" we are to "resist evil itself" at every opportunity. God Bless |

385 | "Every rhema ?" | Matt 4:4 | inmyheart | 64475
Jesus lays out a system of priorities that challenges us: "Every word that proceeds from the mouth of God," is to be more precious to us than food itself. "By relying on the power and truth of God's Word," Jesus was willing to fight this battle as a man; He could have easily rebuked Satan into another galaxy, but resisted Him in a way that we can imitate and identify with. 386 | Only church members can be baptized? | Mark | inmyheart | 64395
Many people go to be baptized, but they have so little knowledge of the Bible and of Jesus that they cannot understand or believe on Jesus with all their heart. In some countries, people may gather in great numbers to be baptized; yet when each one is questioned, "Who is Jesus?", many do not know Who He really is. To many, He is nothing more than a name and a person they sing about. They have no saving knowledge or faith. They are not ready for baptism. Mk 16:16-HE THAT BELIEVETH AND IS BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED; BUT HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT SHALL BE DAMNED. Note, "BELIEVING" must be in place before water baptism is done; and "believing" is to be WITH ALL THINE HEART. A person cannot believe on or be baptized into One in whom they know nothing about. Many preachers and elders wrongly baptize these people without ever discerning if they believe on Jesus and understand who He is, and what He did. You become a member when you enter into the family of God. God bless |

387 | Elders anointing sick with oil. | James 5:14 | inmyheart | 63724
Exhortations for Christian care for one another 1. (James 5:13-14) How to meet needs arising among Christians. a. The suffering need to pray; the cheerful should sing psalms of praise to God, and the sick should call for the elders of the church, asking them to pray for their need. i. James has the same advice for both the one suffering and the one doing well: take it all to the Lord. In fact, the two commands could be reversed: sufferers should sing also, and the cheerful should also pray. ii. James clearly puts the initiative on the person in need (let 'him' call); the hesitancy of people to ask for or to seek prayer from the leadership of the church in such circumstances is a true mystery. b. James also says that the elders of the church, as they pray, should anoint the sick person with oil in the name of the Lord; this anointing with oil has been interpreted as either seeking the best medical attention possible for the afflicted (oil massages were considered medicinal), or as an emblem of the Holy Spirit's presence and power. i. Anointing the sick with oil is also mentioned in Mark 6:13; Luke 10:24 mentions the application of oil in a medicinal sense. c. The Roman Catholic church mutated the command to anoint the sick into the "sacrament" of Extreme Unction, administered to someone to prepare them for death - something intended to heal was made into a preparation for death! from www.blueletterbible.org |

388 | Inability to believe | John 5:24 | inmyheart | 63686
The author of the epistle to the Hebrews began with these words, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son (Heb. 1:1-2).” Throughout the centuries of the Old Testament, God communicated to His people through the prophets. He did so in a variety of ways, which included dreams, visions, writing on clay tablets, angelic visitation, and direct oral communication. Whatever the method and whoever the messenger, the end product was the inspired, or “God-breathed,” Word of God. In these last days (the New Testament age) God has spoken through His Son. That is, Jesus communicated the message of His Father both through the way He lived as well as through what He taught. The contrast is between the law, which came through Moses and the prophets, and grace, which came by Christ and His disciples. Yes, God is a God of holiness, justice, and truth. But He is also a God of love, grace, and mercy. The point is that God communicated to mankind the messages of both the Old Testament (covenant of law) and the New Testament (covenant of grace). Both were equally from God and both were good. The dif-ference is that the law told men what God required, but did not provide men with the enablement to obey the law— the law was “weak through the flesh” (Rom. 8:3). The law was a comprehensive whole made up of civil, moral, and ceremonial require-ments. To break it at one point was to break it in its totality. Since man cannot measure up to the law’s lofty demands, it brings him face to face with his sin. In marked contrast to the law, grace is God’s unmerited favor. Through Christ, God provides for man what he could not provide for himself. Jesus came to pay a debt He didn’t owe because man owed a debt he couldn’t pay. Whether it was the Old Testament of law or the New Testament of grace, God has spoken. That in itself is an astounding and humbling reality. God was not obligated to speak. He was not our debtor. Man surely did not deserve a word from heaven. After all, we were sinful, disobedient, and at enmity with God. God has spoken with finality through His Son. It is a completed and perfect message. Nothing has to be added and nothing has to be changed. It simply has to be understood and obeyed. Here are four compelling reasons for listening to His message. First, “He is the heir of all things” (Heb. 1:2). The universe and all therein belong to Him. Therefore, listen to Him. Second, He made the world. When God the Father spoke the world into existence ex nihilo (out of nothing), God the Son was present and participated in that creation. “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being” (John 1:3). Therefore, listen to Him. Third, “He is the radiance of His (God’s) glory and the exact representation of His nature” (Heb. 1:2). The intrinsic, eternal perfec-tion of the Father is equally the intrinsic eternal perfection of the Son. If men want to know what the invisible God is like, they can see Him in the visible Son. Therefore, listen to Him. Fourth, when Christ had by Himself, as priest and sacrifice, purged our sins, He sat down (Heb. 1:3). The priests of ancient Israel served at the Temple. But the Temple, as cost-ly and beautiful as it was, had no chairs. It had no chairs because the priest never sat down. The priest never sat down because his work was never done. His work was never done because the blood of bulls and goats could never take away sin (Heb. 10:4). Jesus, by way of contrast, offered a sacrifice that was infinite in worth and eternal in duration. It never has to be offered again. And so He sat down— enthroned on the right hand of the majesty on high (Heb. 1:3). The work of redemption was forever finished. Therefore, listen to Him. God has spoken through His Son. Because He has spoken, there is an answer to our ques-tions. Because He has spoken, there is a solu-tion to our problems. Because He has spoken, there is hope for our end. God has spoken through His Son, who sat down. |

391 | women should keep silent in church | 1 Cor 14:34 | inmyheart | 63258
Women's shouldn't be judging prophecy or disrupting meetings. Paul has already assumed the right of women to pray or prophecy publicly (1Cor.11:1-16); here he probably is emphasizing the right of women to judge prophecy, something restricted to the male leadership of the church. As well, women (or men for that matter) shouldn't be disrupting meetings with questions or chatter. God bless |

393 | I won"t be saved if I don't tithe | 2 Corinthians | inmyheart | 63204
From 2Cor.9:7 Giving should come from a right heart. a. Our giving reveals the purpose of our heart; where our treasure is, our heart will be also. b. God doesn't want our grudging gifts; He looks for cheerful (the Greek uses the word from which we get our word hilarious) giving! c. True giving also gives us a happy heart. i. The poet Carlyle said that when he was a boy, a beggar came to the door when his parents were gone. On a youthful impulse, he rushed to his room, broke his piggy-bank and gave the beggar all the money. He said that never before or since had he known such sheer happiness as came to him in that moment. ii. Ananias and Sapphira: examples of giving for the wrong reasons, not out of a cheerful heart. d. Remember that God's giving of His grace is the complete opposite of grudging and forced; He delights to give His love to us i. "It is not difficult to suggest why God delights in the cheerful giver. He himself is such a giver and desires to see this characteristic restored among those who were created in his image." (Kruse)(from blueletterbible) On the other hand, what would happen if you lost all of your wages? Are we looking to our Father in heaven to meet our provisions, or we trusting in ourselves? You are saved by God's Grace(Rom.3:24). As the commentary above says, God is developing our characteristics. "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poure into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:37-38 (NIV). God bless |

394 | Divorce and Remarriage is NOT Adultery | Matt 19:9 | inmyheart | 63186
Marriage consists of the union of a man and a woman, whose covenant relationship is witnessed and officiated by God himself. The Christian is only permitted to marry another Christian. If one is converted after marriage, one is not to divorce the spouse. But if the non-Christian spouse desires to sever the relationship, the Christian cannot force him or her to remain. Once within a marriage relationship, one must remain faithful, and not to divorce another, except when the other is found to be unfaithful. Even then, divorce is not necessary, but only permitted. One who divorces the spouse illegitimately is a covenant-breaker, and incurs God's judgment. Remarriage is generally allowed, and is encouraged or discouraged under different conditions. But again, it must only occur between two Christians. God bless |

396 | Scriptures on testing? | James 1:13 | inmyheart | 62987
Hello Prayon, Greetings and blessings to you. Here is some info on James 1:2-4 on trial/tests. B. Trials and wisdom 1. (2-4) Patient endurance in trials a. James regards trials as inevitable (when, not if you fall into trials), yet as occasions for joy, not discouraged resignation; they are used to produce patience i. Patience (hupomone) is not a passive waiting, but an active endurance, such as the quality needed to endure through a long race ii. Hupomone comes from hupo (under) and meno (to stay, abide, remain); it has the picture of being under a heavy load and resolutely staying there instead of trying to escape; the philosopher Philo called hupomone "the queen of virtues" b. Faith is tested through trials, not produced by them; trials reveal what faith we do have, not because God doesn't know (He is omniscient, knowing all), but to make our faith evident to ourselves - and those around us i. It is easy to talk about our faith in God when things are easy, but our faith is really shown in the midst of trial c. Yet, when trials come, patience is not produced as an inevitable result; if difficulties are received in unbelief and grumbling, they can be the source of bitterness and discouragement; this is why James implores us to count it all joy i. "It is occasionally asserted that James asks his readers to enjoy their trials. . . He did not say that they must feel it all joy, or that trials are all joy" (Hiebert) ii. In trials, God wants to be our first resource, not our last resort d. The work of patient endurance comes slowly, and must be allowed to have full bloom; and this virtue is a mark of the person who is perfect and complete, lacking nothing. God bless you in all of your endeavors! |

Disease of life, we were born with it. we are never satisfied with who we are and what we are. We never have enough money, never look good enough. This is called the dis - ease of life. When we come to know our Lord and Savior, we discover who we are. That God designed each one with a purpose, our looks, our talents, our skin color even our parents were planned by God, we had no choice in the creation of ourselves. Now you have a choice, be saitisfied how God created you (He makes no mistakes), or you can use the reasons you stated to satisfied your needs. Will God love you less? No, but I can't speak for your husband. You want to be more intimate with each other, be more intimate with God. Read Ephesians 5:22-33 and all of Proverbs 31. God bless you, you really are precious in the eyes of God. |

It is the same message Paul preached, saying that as believers we are to put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and that we are to put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22, 24) God bless |

400 | So what is going on here? | 2 Cor 7:8 | inmyheart | 62513
This is a commentary on the question you ask. God's blessings. Paul didn't relish the thought of making the Corinthians feel bad (though they deserved it!); but he was happy for the effect it had on them (repentance) Notice how Paul separates sorrow from repentance: they aren't the same things! i. "Repentance is not sorrow only. It may be unaccompanied by sorrow . . . at the time, but sorrow will always follow, sorrow for the past; but this change of mind is the great thing." (Morgan) ii. "Sorrow alone accomplishes nothing. Peter was sorry he denied Christ, and he repented. Judas was sorry he betrayed Christ but, instead of repenting, he killed himself." (Smith) Repentance "is not the ground of our salvation; but it is a part of it and necessary condition of it. Those who repent are saved; the impenitent perish. Repentance is therefore unto salvation." (Hodge) i. Godly sorrow will acknowledge sin, not merely a shortcoming, a wrong, a mistake, but sin before God ii. We don't have to question weather our sorrow is deep enough; only if it has led us to repent and cast ourselves on Christ Though this sorrow ultimately had a good effect on the Corinthians, not all sorrow does; when it is borne in a worldly way, it has the deadly effect of producing resentment or bitterness i. What makes suffering good for us is not the mere experience of suffering, but our reaction to it; a godly, positive reaction brings blessing, a worldly, negative reaction causes harm i. The repentance of the Corinthians was shown by their actions, as described in verse 11 When Paul says in this matter in verse 11, he is using godly discretion by not bringing up the whole affair again from the beginning i. Again, Paul's purpose in sending the severe letter was not to condemn, but to demonstrate his concern. |
