181 | How can we know it's God? | Genesis | humbledbyhisgrace | 162182
We call Him good because He is the very essence of good. The word of God tells us He is the only one that can be called good (Matthew 19:17). We (mankind) have a tendency to see things only as man can see them. In doing so, we even tend to believe that our standards or interpretation of them somehow applies to God. We tend to forget that all men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We are the created not the creator. We are a corrupt creature unable to save ourselves and unable to even know the things of God without His help. So if anyone is wrong in what is good and not good it is mankind not God. God has no trouble understanding His ways. Mankind is the one with a problem understanding. You ask "Secondly, if we believe in a just God, how can he kill innocent children"? Here is a good example of what I mentioned above. You have determined on your own who is innocent and who is not. On what authority do we say that what God has done is evil? As I said, mankind has a tendency to apply our interpretation of good and evil, right or wrong, etc... to God. Where is your proof the children were innocent? Is this not mankind's own interpretation of innocents? How do you know when a life is taken that it is not God's way of sparing the person from something even worse. I personally don't know one way or the other. What I do know is that God is God, He knows what He is doing, He has the power to do it and I trust in that. If I have trouble understanding the ways of God I don't dare question Him nor think I have a place in correcting Him on anything. I for one am thankful God does not live up to our standards. If that were the case we would be in big trouble! In regards to the Bin Laden thing it goes without saying that he can only do what he is allowed to do. So it is with you and so it is with me. Take a look at the book of Job. Notice the sovereignty of God. God allowed satan to do the things he did to Job but he limited him on what he could and could not do (i.e. take his wealth, take his family, take his health, but do not touch his life!). He is in complete control regardless if we understand it all or not. Also, the god Bin Laden wars for is not the God you are trying to understand. |

184 | Did God create Life? | Gen 1:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 161234
The scriptures teach us that our God is a living God. Here are a few for reference. Joshua 3:10 I Thessalonians 1:9 Matthew 16:16 Psalm 84:2 Exodus 3:14 God is eternal. God always has been and always will be God (Psalm 90:2). Everything that God is, has always been and will always be. God was not created therefore life has always been because life itself is a part of God. Life itself originates with God. He is the source of life. Now, as others have gracefully pointed out to you, God created the heavens and earth and all things there in. So all living things that were created, were created by God and one of the attributes of those creations was life. In other words, God used life as a part of His creations, therefore creating living things. I hope this helps! Steve |

sour, First let me say I pray that the Lord God will open your heart to receive the truth that His free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to find true happiness. Hear what the Lord God has told mankind through His word. Romans 3:23 (NASB) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and payment for our sins is death Romans 6:23 (NASB) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. So we all have sinned. Christians and none Christians alike. And there is a price to be paid for that sin. Romans 5:8 (NASB) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Note, it was not after we somehow found a way to be good enough that He demonstrated His love for us and died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. It was when we were at our worst that He did so! The most important thing to note here is that He (Christ) died for us! Romans 10:9-10 (NASB) 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 5:1 (NASB) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ Here young man in Romans 10:9-10 and Romans 5:1 is true happiness! I would like to ask you a question. You admit you do not believe in God. You admit you do not have a bible and know nothing of God’s word. Yet you are willing at a young age to write an essay for a friend to show them your “light”. My question is this. If you have no bible and know nothing about it and do not believe in God (according to your own words), how is it you have set yourself up to improve on God’s word which you know nothing about? How is it you (the created) can improve on the Creator which you know nothing about? I say this out of love and my prayer is you can see and understand this. Your own words clearly show that you have no light as you say. You contradict yourself with your own words. It appears you are very much in the dark because you fail to even see your own “light”. Considering your intentions is to help a friend I would encourage you to stop and think about how bad you are misleading them. If you care for them at all it’s best you simply tell them you don’t have a clue about God or his word but you would love to study with them to understand it by reading His word and not making up your own gospel. So, you have this whole thing figured out then? Interesting as I have known a few people in my life that are, well they are just smarter then most people. Of course most of them have been much older then me so they have had much more time to learn then I. However, I have known a couple that are much younger then myself and well they just seemed to have a much deeper insight and understanding of things then most people. You know the kind I’m talking about? How long have you been studying these mathematic scientific and random studies? At what age did you first come to understand them to prove God did not exist? Are you one of those younger people that I’m talking about as having a deeper understanding then most of us common folks? Steve |

Hi garym1952, You think "there may be a problem with the translation into English."? Could you share with us your background and experience in translation of the Hebrew language into English? The problem is when a Christian accepts the teachings of the ungodly. If you take note of those who push the gap theory, the only way they can make it work is to reject what is taught in scripture. There seems to be something inherently wrong with accepting the theories of mankind over the word of God wouldn't you agree? Scripture says Genesis 1:5 "...And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. " Genesis 1:8 "...And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. " Genesis 1:13 "And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. " Genesis 1:19 "And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day." Genesis 1:23 "And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. " Genesis 1:31 "...And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. " Exodus 20:8-11 (NASB) 8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. Have you ever considered other scripture that you would have to discard to establish the gap theory as legit? Steve |

Greetings cheri! It is typical of a fallen nature to seek to make God in our image. How easily we find it to reject God, His ways, His word, etc... in an effort to understand. What kills me is how pride stands in our way of just simply saying, I don't know, I don't understand it all, Lord what does it all mean??????? Surely if we stop for a bit and think, this must be better then rejecting what God says! I don't mean to put words in anyone's mouth and I'm not accusing anyone in particular. I'm merely pointing out what seems evident to me in mankind's sinful nature. Which by the way is another area the "gap theory" contradicts scripture. If we are to take scripture as the Holy Word of God, then absolutely nothing that contradicts it can be of God. Regardless of how well it's wrapped and presented, regardless if we can explain it or not, it would seem to me we make God out to be a liar if we chose to reject His word for that of fallen man. I'm no expert on the gap theory either but it doesn't take long to realize to make it stand we have to re-write scripture and that's enough for even a dumb one like me to spot. I did a little digging myself just to try and understand what this was all about. For anyone interested, here is a good article on the subject. It even gets into the translation and context of the scriptures which is what started this thread off in this direction in the first place. Go to http://www.creationmoments.com/ and do a search for Genesis Stands. Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone interested. God forgive us for what we make of it some times... direct our hearts towards you Lord! Steve |

189 | when were the angels created? | Gen 1:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 189907
Great answer Azure! Another good example of how scripture teaches scripture. I love to see this on the forum and elsewhere when someone allows scripture to teach / clarify scripture. In so doing, it put's to bed many false teachings that arise from the twisting of scripture through addition, subtraction, rejection, manipulation, reading into, etc, etc, etc... The challenge for many is are they willing to agree with the teaching found in scripture or will they hold to that which has been taught to them by man? Amen! Steve |

DL, First it must be noted that your suggestion is not the moral standard. God Himself cannot be immoral because morality reflects the character of God. It is that which contradicts His character that is immoral. Mankind does not determine morality. Your point that "Children starving as the highest evil, all of us sinning as a lower evil." is indicative of a faulty view of morality. It is the act of sinning (i.e. immorality) that contradicts the character of God not the children starving. Your argument of what is moral and immoral has no foundation in truth or authority. It is a subjective argument that defeats itself. First, you determine that it is a moral issue with God because the children are starving. That in and of itself reveals the lack of authority behind the moral in which you try to establish. It is no longer a moral reflective of God's character but rather that of a fallen man (i.e. you). It becomes relative, no longer objective, no longer transcendent, no longer authoritative, and no longer universal. Your self proclaimed moral is based on what you as fallen man determines in your own heart as right and wrong. It has now become relative. For example, your argument for your moral position is based on a question can God do miracles. You have not even established in your argument if God can or cannot do miracles. Yet without even acknowledging that He can, you set out to then determine Him immoral because He does not measure up to your unauthoritative relative moral standard. And you would have us not follow God but you and this is the argument you have to offer as why? Please! Psalms 52:1, Psalms 119:68, Psalms 33:5, Psalms 145:9, Nahum 1:7, Romans 2:4, 1 John 1:5 "When others behave badly to us, it should only stir us up the more heartily to give thanks unto the Lord, because He is good; and when we ourselves are conscious that we are far from being good, we should only the more reverently bless Him that He is good. We must never tolerate an instant's unbelief as to the goodness of the Lord; whatever else may be questioned, this is absolutely certain, that Jehovah is good; His dispensations may vary, but His nature is always the same" -- C. H. Spurgeon Steve |

193 | where is "HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT in old test | Gen 1:2 | humbledbyhisgrace | 197163
Greetings Julie, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Would you please provide scripture reference to this teaching? " When any 'angel' comes into a story in the bible, this is really just a beautiful way to say they heard the Holy Spirit speak to them, for an angel is 'a messenger'- one who sends messages from God. Who do you think 'sends messages from God' if it is NOT the HOLY SPIRIT, Himself? And what is a message of God but the truth?" Thanks! Steve |

194 | Did we have a choice in our creation? | Gen 2:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 185980

195 | It is taught that God gives free will to | Gen 2:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 186061
Greetings muller! To my knowledge I know of no place in scripture that teaches us God is required to do anything. Don't confuse that statement with things that God has ordained He will do. I would encourage you to consider and study first and foremost the sovereignty of God. Don's stop there, do a study on the doctrine of God. If you ever wish to understand and put the created (mankind) in proper perspective it will need to be measured with what the Creator (God) has revealed of Himself through His word and His creation. God bless, Steve |

196 | The Tree of Life...? | Gen 2:9 | humbledbyhisgrace | 183584

197 | The Tree of Life...? | Gen 2:9 | humbledbyhisgrace | 183586
Yes, this is why I was confused by the statement "prolonged life". As I understood the scripture to mean literally "live for ever". Prolonged life as I understand it doesn't mean "for ever" so I was looking for clarification on what you understood it to mean. I looked at an outline of biblical usage for "for ever" and your choice of words "prolonged life" and wondered if you understood this scripture to mean something different then they way I was understanding it. That may sound silly to some but consider the outline of biblical use found on the blueletterbible.com web site for "for ever". 1) long duration, antiquity, futurity, for ever, ever, everlasting, evermore, perpetual, old, ancient, world a) ancient time, long time (of past) b) (of future) 1) for ever, always 2) continuous existence, perpetual 3) everlasting, indefinite or unending future, eternity Can you see my confusion? :-) By Faith, Steve |

198 | Are Human Beings responsible for Sin..? | Gen 2:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 178598
Were they punished for "knowing" good and evil or for disobedience to God? Genesis 2:16-17 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die. Did they even have to know the difference between good and evil to know what the cost would be? |

199 | Sexual Sin Follow up | Gen 2:18 | humbledbyhisgrace | 161124
Hey inmyheart! Very good point! "this is not just about you, it's also about her" It's important that the brother understand there are no loop holes in what God has made clear in His word regarding this subject. But just as important he needs to be fully aware that his decisions in this will also affect someone else. What a lesson for him to learn and hopefully understand. Well said! |

200 | Sexual Sin Follow up | Gen 2:18 | humbledbyhisgrace | 161126
In your profile you said you like being called a child of God. This is good! As a child of God we are to reflect God's character. If you are a child of God, and you profess this to others, then you need to always remember who your Father is and not only what he expects of you, but that you are claiming to others to represent Him and His ways. With that in mind, read Ephesians 5:1-17. inmyheart made a very good point to you when he/she said "this is not just about you, it's also about her" I would go one step farther and say this. In the order of importance this is about God, your girlfriend, and you. Would you place yourself before God and your girlfriend? (Think on that! No need to answer) |
