Greetings truthteller! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! You said “I know how very wrong this is and I want to minister to her in love.” Good! Be blunt (Romans 1:16) with her and present the gospel of Christ to her! You may find some valuable information on this web site about this subject (http://www.carm.org/wicca.htm). God bless, Steve |

423 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190698
Ah yes, the body of Christ! Scripture makes it obvious the importance of each member! And the Spirit of God which unites! As it should be Brother! Praise God for His mercy and kindness! Just a thought based on what you say took place Sunday and the fact there are still those with hurt feelings and anger. I can think of two very good reminders to us all that can be considered to put such feelings in context of the ways of God. The words of Jesus our Lord God in Luke 23:34 (NASB) “"Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing…" And The words of Stephen in Acts 7:60 (NASB) “…Lord, do not hold this sin against them!…” Amazing how those who were wronged were able to overcome the anger and hurt and still plead with God to forgive those who wronged them. Truly His ways are higher then ours! As you well know dear brother, we are nothing without Him and in my humbled opinion absolutely desperate for Him to intercede in our lives constantly! Praise God He will never forsake us! Your Brother in Christ, Steve Romans 2:4 (NASB) Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? |

427 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190591
Yes, anything that will point them to Christ! He must be lifted up to them!!! Take note of how many times Paul mentions Jesus Christ in the first 10 or so verses of 1 Corinthians 1. It is obvious the One Paul is seeking to focus them (and us) on. Perhaps a good cross reference to tie in to that passage would be Matt. 5:21-24 I feel for you brother! I know this must be hard for you and others in the church. The church that my Grandparents, Mother, and several of my brothers attended recently fired the pastor. Many of the members including my family members had already left the church and/or passed on to be with the Lord! The church was divided and had been getting worse for several years. I don't know all the issues but I do know many who were members of the church and I know the pastor personally and spent time in the church and with him when I visited my home town. It still hurts me deeply when I think of what has taken place there. But it is clear to me that God must be at the center of our lives and our local church! I say this to encourage you! Let this Sunday not be a sad day, but let it be the first day of a new direction. Stand before the church and show to them that without compromise, He is your God and He is the head of the church and there is no room for anything in the church that is not honoring to Him! Invite them to stand with you united in His Spirit (Ephesians 4:1-16) and for those who cannot put Him first, well show them the door! God bless, Steve |

428 | satan's big lie. | Jer 29:11 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190588
Hi sqkeener, Scripture refers to satan as the father of lies (John 8:44). Actually, the scriptures teach us much about satan. It also teaches us in James 1:14 we are tempted by our own lust. James 1:14-15 (NASB) 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. It is not satan that always deceives us but our own sinful nature leads us into sin as well if we give into it. Your question is a broad one, but a very good one to consider for all. I say this because we (Christians) need to understand who God is, what does He teach us about Himself in scripture? What does He teach us about satan, evil, and our own nature? If we are to know the difference between what is of God and what is evil then we must know and understand what scripture teaches us. It is important for us to study His word and spend time with Him. The more we understand of Him the better equipped we are to discern what is of God and what is of evil. A good example we can look to on this subject is when Jesus told Peter “Get behind Me, satan” (Matthew 16:23). Now as we read the passage of scripture (Matthew 16:21-23), one might first think that what Peter was doing was the right thing. Obviously, Peter thought it was. But we see from Jesus rebuke of Peter an excellent example of why your question is so important for us to consider. It is obvious from the Lord’s words to Peter, that Peter was influenced by evil. It may seem hard to grasp but the Lord’s words are clear as He says "… Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man's." (Matthew 16:23 NASB). This is a good example as it shows us the contrast of what we may perceive to be good and what are actually the things of God. Using this passage of scripture we can see that Peter did not fully understand what the Lord had just told them in verse 21. Had he have known and understood perhaps he would not have been tempted to and/or acted on the temptation to do that which contradicted the will of God. It appeared to Peter the right thing to do would be to prevent the Lord from going and suffering these things. This seems logical and it is easy to understand why Peter would have acted this way. But it was God’s will that Jesus suffer all these things and be put to death and be raised again from the dead. The Lord Jesus recognized the evil as it was clearly in contradiction to the will of God. This is also a good example (in my opinion) of how mankind's ways can and do fall short when compared to God's ways. How do we know the difference? By knowing what the will of God is! We study His word, seek Him out daily through His word, prayer, fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and get to know Him and what He has revealed to us through His word and through His creation. It is not always easy as you can see from the example of Peter given above. But we must strive to study His word and seek His will. Even if it may seem right to us, if it contradicts the will of God, it is sinful and must be rejected! Hope this is in some way helpful as I think your question is a good one and is important to not only understand but to apply as well. God bless, Steve |

429 | Thanks for the answer | Acts 1:9 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190570
And it can be said you are just the last to prove the scriptures are true! 1 Corinthians 2:14 (NASB) 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Romans 8:6-8 (NASB) 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Here are the facts since you are into “FACTS”! 1 Corinthians 15:3-19 (NASB) 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. If you think so highly of mankind do us a favor and simply create from nothing a seed, plant it and grow for yourself food to sustain you. By the way, the seed must be created by you not taken from that which has already been created. Also, you must create your own water and dirt to plant and feed the seed. You must give it life that it may grow and produce its fruits. Let us know how it turns out! Steve |

Greetings Crossroads1! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! You know there are so many subjects that could be preached on but the fist thing that came to my mind was the sovereignty of God. Don't think you could cover it all in one sermon but you could get the point across! Maybe you could spend some time pointing out to the church who it is that calls us into service and who it is that gives the gifts to us and what the purpose of the gifts are. Perhaps your pastor and the "sideliner" both need to be reminded of this! You really leave a lot open for speculation with so little detail. I don't say that seeking more information only to say this situation to me doesn't sound like it can be resolved in a forum like this. Sounds like to me the church needs to ensure God is at the center of everything it is doing. If not look for more trouble down the road! Seek Him out brother, lift Him up before the congregation and stand firm against any evil that attempts to divide His people!!! There's another good subject, "Recognizing evil". How many Christians have trouble doing that? God bless, Steve |

431 | How Trinity of God is working? | Gal 4:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190363
Greetings RC! Amen! And absolutely the Lord God knows what He is doing! It is a praise to God for sure. Obviously He has more for you to do! You got to love that :-) In regards to the church you spoke of, again I say Amen! Again it is a praise to God! Although some times it is so hard for us to see His hand at work, He works none the less doing that which He pleases and drawing His people to Him. Ah the kindness of the Lord (Romans 2:4). Where would any of us be if not for His love and mercy and patients with us? God bless, Steve |

Greetings RC! Welcome Back! Although I wasn't here back when you were active :-) I took note of the fact you pointed out you use to be rcscroll. I took a look at some of your old post and your old profile. I noticed it was back in March of 2003 you made your last post under that name. Seeing it's now June 2007, can we assume God's will has changed for your "TERMINAL SICKNESS" you spoke of in your old profile information? Steve |

433 | Lack of Indifference | Mark 16:18 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190306
Good stuff Brother Tim! Your post reminded me of a couple of things said by Albert Mohler Jr. and Henlee Barnette in an article on this subject I had read. "In both the Old and New Testaments, the demands of justice require that those who do evil be punished for those acts of evil," he said. "War is one of the means by which peace is re-established." - Albert Mohler Jr. Barnette agreed, saying that the Greek word for "love" -- agape -- demands justice. "You can't have agape [love] without justice," he said. "Otherwise it is purely sentimentality. I go along with Augustine on this. You may hit me on the right cheek, [and] I'll turn the left. But you hit one of my family [members], and you're going to get justice." - Henlee Barnette Steve |

Your post are removed because they are not biblical. You are pushing none biblical teachings and this site is a sola Scriptura site. The mystical none biblical teachings you are pushing are dishonoring to God and to His word and will not be tolirated on this site. These things you push are not of God and can be clearly disputed from scripture. Again, I plead with you, free yourself from all that contradicts the word of God. Remove yourself from those that would teach you such twisted and absured false teachings. You are correct, satan is without question at work, but you are confused and blinded by him in the work that he is doing. Steve |

Oh dear, please please seek out a God fearing man or woman and let them help you! Please do not find my words offensive. I say this out of love and great concern for you. Ashtoroth and Baal were not spirits. They are false god's! They are not even real gods. They were made up in the minds of sinful people separated from the one true God. Please get away from those who teach you these false teachings. Look to God's word for His truth. 1 Samuel 7:3 (NASB) Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If you return to the LORD with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the LORD and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines." Judges 2:11-13 (ESV) 2:11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. 2:12 And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger. 2:13 They abandoned the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. ASHTAROTH — is the plural form of Ashtoreth, a Canaanite goddess of fertility, love, and war and the daughter of the god El and the goddess Asherah. 1. OT uses the plural form, Ashtaroth, more than the singular form, Ashtoreth. The only references to Ashtoreth come in 1 Kings 11:5,33; 2 Kings 23:13. The Hebrew scribes replaced the vowels of the name ’Ashtart or ’Ashteret with the vowels from the Hebrew word for shame, boshet, to bring dishonor to the memory of the goddess. This exchanging of vowels formed the word Ashtoreth. The Greek form of the name is Astarte. In Canaanite mythology she appears to be the sister of the goddess Anath and the spouse of the god Baal. Anath also was the spouse of Baal, as well as the goddess of love and war. Some confusion, therefore, exists regarding Ashtaroth’s relationship to Anath. Anath and Ashtaroth may have referred to the same goddess, or they may have been two separate deities. Among the people of Palestine Ashtaroth may have taken over Anath’s role. The Egyptians gave the title “Lady of Heaven” to Astarte, Anath, and another goddess, Qudshu. In Moab, Astarte was the spouse of the major god, Chemosh. The Babylonians and Assyrians called her Ashtar and worshiped her as goddess of fertility and love. The people of the ancient Near East during the Hellenistic and Roman periods referred to her as Aphrodite-Venus. Apparently the word “ashtaroth” at one time meant “womb” or “that which comes from the womb.” This word, “ashtaroth,” appears in Deut. 7:13 and 28:4,18,51 to describe the young of the flock. This use may demonstrate the link between the goddess Ashtaroth and fertility. The biblical writers often coupled Baal with Ashtaroth as a designation of pagan worship (Judg. 2:13; 10:6; 1 Sam. 7:3-4; 12:10). In addition to her worship by the Canaanites, the OT mentions the people of Sidon (1 Kings 11:5) and the Philistines (1 Sam. 31:10) as reverencing her. At Beth-shan, the Philistines erected a temple to Ashtaroth (1 Sam. 31:10). The reference to the Queen of Heaven (Jer. 7:18) may have Ashtaroth in mind, but this is uncertain. The Israelites worshiped her, and the biblical writers specifically refer to Solomon’s leadership in promoting the worship of Ashtaroth (1 Kings 11:5). She was only one of many foreign deities revered by the Israelites. Josiah destroyed the shrines built to her (2 Kings 23:13). —Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary Steve |
