401 | silent prayer | Matt 6:5 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191533
Greetings mely! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! If the word of God does not speak against praying silently, why would we put such limitations on a mighty God who not only is able to, but does know our thoughts and our heart ? (Psalm 139:23; Isaiah 66:18, 1 Chronicles 28:9, Psalm 44:21, 1 Samuel 16:7, Jeremiah 17:10) etc... Have you ever had a prayer answered? Have you ever had a silent prayer answered? God bless, Steve |

404 | When did Adam/Eve die? | Gen 5:5 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191529
Greetings HL! Adam lived 930 years (Genesis 5:5) I don't think there is a biblical account of Eve's age when she died. Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong :-) God bless, Steve |

405 | Is being cremated a sin? | 1 Sam 31:12 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191527
Greetings! Paste this number in the search box in the upper right hand corner of the page. This post on the subject may be helpful to you. Also, you can do a search on the word "cremation" and find many other post on the subject that might also be helpful in understanding this subject. By the way, don't believe everything you hear on TV! Even if it is a "minister"! I make no claims about the minister you speak of because I don't even know who you are talking about. But you can see many on the TV today who are clearly false prophets and contradict the word of God on a regular basis! God bless, Steve |

406 | why suffer in pain | 2 Cor 4:17 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191461
Greetings Sister! Great stuff! It is this heart that we should have for all those we see each day! Just like we once formally walked in sin, desperate for a Saviour and not even knowing it, so too are many we see in our daily life. We should see each one of them as they are, lost and hopeless without the Lord Jesus! Knowing what we know because of the gift we have been given, let us not rest while so many are in desperate need of a Saviour, our Lord and our God Jesus Christ! Steve |

407 | What are gifts of the Holy spirit | 1 Cor 12:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191395
Greetings Lynton! I want to also encourage you to think about a few things as you look into the gifts of the Spirit. Note that it is God who gives them to man! Note the purpose of the gifts! Note the importance of God's people serving Him and His church with the gift they have been given! Also, you will more then likely find that this is one area that most Christians seem to struggle with in regards to understanding and knowing the gift they have been given. I would argue the reason is because of their relationship with God. It is absolutely essential that you have a close relationship with God in order to better understand and know Him. I have found that many seem to seek answers from God through prayer only. As if He will show them the future (i.e. His will for their life). Don't get me wrong, prayer is an essential part of our relationship with God and in seeking His will. But what seems apparent to me is that many fail to see that much of His will has already been revealed to us through His word. My question to many is why do they think God is going to reveal the future to them when they are not even obedient and doing that which He has already revealed to them through His word? It seems to be this way with the local churches also. Just my opinion and of course this does not apply to all Christians and churches. I by no means know them all but from what I have seen and heard, it seems to apply to many! God bless, Steve |

411 | forgiveness | Matt 18:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191371
Greetings Parable! In my opinion the definition falls short! It would seem to me it better defines the fruits of forgiveness, not what it means to forgive. To add to the other scriptures I have pointed you to, take a look at Luke 15:11-32, pay close attention to verses 20-24. There my brother is a picture of forgiveness! Steve |

412 | forgiveness | Matt 18:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191345
Greetings Brother! I agree with Hank. I struggle with much of what you have posted here on forgiveness. Read The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18:21-35. Does this leave you with the same understanding as you have posted? Or perhaps 2 Corinthians 2:5-11...? Forgiveness must come from the heart! Surely the Lord God searches the heart and knows it well and from Him we can hide nothing! It seems to me that your presentation of forgiveness is rooted in selfishness. It must be rooted in love! Ephesians 4:31-32 (NASB) 4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 5:1-2 (NASB) 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. You stated "this is hard to put in words" and I agree, some times it is very hard to find the right words. Been there many times myself :-) But united in His spirit seeking to understand His word we can over come that! Perhaps it is just the way you presented it that is confusing but it appears to me that your understanding of forgiveness is missing some key points. God's grace, His compassion, His mercy and love! Maybe I am misunderstanding you so if you would, try providing scripture and explaining your understanding based on the scripture. God bless, Steve |

413 | Explain the meaning of 2 peter 1:13 | 2 Pet 1:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191150
Greetings Russell41! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! The "tent" is referring to this earthly body. See also 2 Cor. 5:1, 4 See verse 12 for an explanation of what Peter is talking about regarding "stir you up". Also, notice Peter says in verse 12 "though you know them and are established in the truth that you have." (NASB) Therefore, we must agree with scripture and say yes! there is a "benefit to reminding people". We see here in this passage of the word of God that it is so. Peter, who was lead by the Holy Spirit to write these words clearly points out in verse 8 and 9 the importance. See verses 3-7 of what Peter is "stirring" them up / reminding them of. Go back and read the passage from verse 3-15 to put it all in context. God bless, Steve |

416 | What is the concept of time in Is 38:8 | 2 Kin 20:11 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190935
Greetings richman766 ! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! This is spoken of again in 2 Kings 20:8-11. Neither passage speaks to time changing. Only the shadow on the stairway! To go any further then that is beyond what scripture teaches on the matter. 2 Kings 20:8-11 (NASB) 20:8 Now Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD the third day?" 20:9 Isaiah said, "This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?" 20:10 So Hezekiah answered, "It is easy for the shadow to decline ten steps; no, but let the shadow turn backward ten steps." 20:11 Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD, and He brought the shadow on the stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz. 417 | What do you think, Steve? | Prov 4:10 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190921
What do I think? By the grace of God, I agree with scripture! God is absolutely sovereign and mankind is absolutely corrupted by sin and in desperate need of the sovereign God to intercede in our life to overcome the corruption of sin that we (mankind) cannot overcome! The scriptures are full of both of these teachings. But a sample to consider... The book of Job, 1 Chronicles 29:11, Daniel 4:35, Psalms 22:28, Psalms 115:3, Isaiah 14:27, Romans 11:36, 1 Timothy 6:13-15, John 3:27, Ephesians 1:3-6, Romans 8:5-8, 1 Corinthians 2:14, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Galatians 5:17, John 3:3-6, Romans 7:14-25, Ephesians 2:3, etc, etc, etc... Did you take note of Doc's post 190917 ? More excellent scriptures to ponder on this matter! So, what do you think Val? Steve |

418 | Bad things, Good People. Prov 4:10 | Prov 4:10 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190909
Greetings Val! The book of Job would be a good place to start regarding your question to Angelinwaiting! If you struggle with understanding what Angelinwaiting is saying, I would urge you to consider the sovereignty of God and the depravity of man. What does God's word teach us about both? Steve |
