41 | Who is God Talking to in verse 26? | Genesis | greentwiga | 140877
There is an ancient theological idea about the power of the word of God. It is rather foreign to us today. The concept was that when God spoke, his word made it happen. One concept was that the writer was saying that God spoke and it happened. Many people now discuss the "Let us" statement as referring to the trinity. Some would say they in some manner discussed the creation. Reality is far more complex than we can understand, but all these ideas can be true. See Heb 4:12, John 1, Isa 55:11
42 | Who is Abraham's wife? | Genesis | greentwiga | 140983
Abraham had three wives. Two of them might also be called concubines. They were Hagar, Sarah and Keturah. God made a promise to Hagar and Ishmael. (Gen 17:20) The promise of outnumbering the Stars in Heaven was meant only for Isaac and his descendants. (Gen 15:4) In Gen 25, the sons of Keturah are mentioned. They established tribes like Midianites and Sheba. Notice that Abe left all to his son Isaac but gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them to the East. Both Ishmael and the sons of Keturah moved east. 25:1-6 Therefore, only Isaac is the true son, the inheritor of the promise. Notice that the promise was repeated to one of Isaacs children, Jacob. (Gen 26:4, 28:13-20, Deut 7:13) Paul expanded it to all children of faith. (Rom 4:13-17) This seems to be the spiritual application, similar to the Jewish promise. Greentwiga |

43 | Numbering System Used in the Bible | Genesis | greentwiga | 141033
The Arabic numeral system with the zero was developed after the New Testament. The Romans used the roman numerals I,V, X etc. during the time of the New Testament. Egyptians at the time of Moses used a similar but more primitive system with one symbol for the ones, another for the tens, etc. Still it was base ten. You must go back to the Sumerians to get a base 60 system. Even here it was a mixed 6 and ten system. They gave us the 360 degrees of the compass and the 60 minutes and seconds plus the 12 hours for the day and night. We have written records of theirs on squares and cubes and roots. 666 comes from a system of converting a name to numbers. I think nero might convert to 666. 7 was special because the Hebrew word meant both seven and oath. Evil is used of Oath breakers and oathkeepers were Godly. I do not know about the source of 40 yet. I have studied alot of Biblical math. I even studied the movement of the Pole star to see when 1/3 of the permanent stars started falling to earth. (The most useless Bible Study ever.) Greentwiga |

44 | In Gen. 6 what species are Sons of God? | Genesis | greentwiga | 141062
There are a variety of interpretations including this one. I favor an interpretation that fits Sumerian society of the region and time. Kings and others went to visit the heirodules, the religious wives, the temple prostitutes. The women prayed to be inhabited by the Goddess, and the man by the God. This was for fertility and success of the farm or nation. Here semitic men went to sumerian women, and both would be considered demon possessed by our understanding. Nephilim could be the heroes of old, or just a time marker for the heroes born to the union. Sargon (Nimrod?) claimed such a heritage (mother a temple prostitute)and was a Hero (?). Angels having sex seems to violate what Jesus taught about angels and thus demons, but this interpretation does not. Greentwiga |

45 | Another question on Genesis 28 | Genesis | greentwiga | 141133
There is a difference between what a man thinks is happening and what is really happening (eg Jacob and the spotted sheep.) Isaac thought he had a choice in who to bless. Jacob blessed Joseph by declaring God's blessing on the boys. Gen 48:16. Jacob then calls the sons and tells tham what will happen (Gen 49.) Balaam is hired to curse Israel. Balak declare Balaam blessed them instead. Balaam says "I must speak what the Lord puts in my mouth." (Num 23) Could Isaac really have reversed the blessing? Could Balaam? Greentwiga |

46 | Please clarify? | Genesis | greentwiga | 141190
Jacob put spotted and striped sticks in front of the mating sheep, thinking that caused the babies to be spotted. God revealed later in a dream that it was because the spotted and striped males were mating. Isaac thought he had control of the blessing. We see in Balaam that Balaam did not have control of the blessing. God was in control and chose Jacob, probably despite his attempts to manipulate Isaac. Jacob carved spotted sticks. Jacob made stew and wore hairy smelly clothes. Both times he thought what he did affected the outcome. Both times, God was doing something different. Greentwiga |

47 | What modern people are Easus descendents | Genesis | greentwiga | 142378
Esau's descendants are listed in Gen 36 (Repeated 1 Chron 1). The main focus is the ones living in Edom (36:9,43), which is now Jordan. One was Amalek, who did not live in Edom. His family was completely wiped out, records the Bible. One would expect to find his descendants in the Sinai and in western Saudi Arabia. But see Jer 49:7-22, and Obadiah (esp 18). There will be no survivors. Some nearby nations had a remnant. Others were taken to captivity, and so some survived. Scripture indicates no Edomite lived. See Ob 5. Some should be left, but none were. Greentwiga |

48 | None are left? | Genesis | greentwiga | 142388
That is why I gave you the reference so you could read the passage for yourself. It looks loke none are left, but one verse could have meant some were pushed out. I tend to think it meant that they were squeezed between enemies, and none were left. See also vs 2 - made small. Remember also, if some branches of Esau's family was separate from Edom and Amalek, they could be living where I said. greentwiga |

49 | What is the area of Bethel called now? | Genesis | greentwiga | 142396
The area of Bethel is near Ramalah, NW of Jericho, along the top of the Judean hills. The Arabic name is Beitin. Some recent investigations suspect that El-Bireh fits the location clues in the Bible better. This seems to be well argued greentwiga |

50 | Israel's land | Genesis | greentwiga | 143085
The river of Egypt is a small river also known as the Wadi of Egypt, smoewhat southwest of Gaza (40 miles) The Jebusites was the people of the city of Jerusalem. Some of the obscure names are also names connected with cities. Some like the Canaanites along the coast and the Rephaites were spread over several cities. Some people like the Hittites and Amorites came from kingdoms far north, but it was the combined land that was given to Abraham. Notice the similar list in Gen 10:15-19. There the territory is described. There the northern extent was Sidon, the southern was Gaza, and the east was about the Jordan valley. What was promised to Abraham is very similar with the extension to the Euphrates. The kingdoms in the hills on the east of the Jordan valley. (later to be Moab, Edom, and Ammon) do not seem top be included. Greentwiga |

53 | chapter 2genesis | Gen 2:10 | greentwiga | 140151
Dear CDBJ; I am a fundamentalist Biblicist and came to the conclusion after delving deep into scriptures. Looking for the four rivers, I realized that the location had to be where fig trees grew. I then homed in on a Mountain in southern Turkey called Karacadag as the location. It divides its watershed into four major rivers or tributaries. Then looking for other biological clues, I saw that Adam was cursed to eat bread by the sweat of his brow. Thus he had to grow wheat. He was also the first farmer. I researched the first domesticated foods (plants of the field) The center of wild lentils is in this area, Chickpeas only grow in this area, but the clincher was wheat. Scientists did a genetic study and concluded that wheat had been domesticated only once, from the wild wheat growing around Karacadag. I insisted that my conclusions agree completely with the Bible, but I prefer if it also agrees reasonably well with all the extra Biblical evidence. Greentwiga |

54 | knowledge of good and evil | Gen 3:1 | greentwiga | 140093
The Hebrew word for evil means useless because it is broken. Other words mean useless because worn out etc. The word for evil is translated wicked when used of breaking the marriage covenant and temple prostitution. It is translated evil when breaking a covenant with God or a business contract. The sin was learning to break covenants, specifically the covenant with God not to eat of the fruit of the tree.
55 | what was the mark of cain? | Gen 4:15 | greentwiga | 141091
We don't really know what the mark of Cain was from the Bible. We do know its effect. it was a mark that prevented people from killing him. This could be in two forms. Some people were marked with a slave mark. People could not hold the slave responsible for some things, but the master. The mark might have been a sign of ownership. In the Bible, a mark of ownership was to have ones ear pierced. A sign of belonging to God was circumcision. Back then, If a man committed murder, any family member of the murdered man could kill the murderer. This was the avenger of blood mentioned in the Old Testament. Another type of mark was a blemish. A blemished sheep was an unacceptable sacrifice. Back then, people would sacrifice other people to ensure fertility of the soil. The burning of children to Baal and the sacrifice of the daughter in Judges are later examples of this when the practice was disappearing. Cain's mark might have been a blemish to make him an unacceptable sacrifice in the unbeliever's (in the true God) eyes. Therefore, the mark could be either, depending on what you think might be the reason others would want to kill Cain. The mark might even have served both purposes. Greentwiga |

56 | how many years did it take | Gen 6:14 | greentwiga | 140201
I was studying the Bible and realized that it seemed to be saying the Ark was an ocean going reed boat. The ancient Sumerians were experts at these boats and could have built it in a few months. Greentwiga |

57 | how many years did it take | Gen 6:14 | greentwiga | 140238
gen 3 says God will wait 120 years before destroying the world. 6:10 lists Noah's three sons as having been born. 11:10 says that Shem was 97 when he got on the boat. 6:22 has Noah building the Ark, and 7:1 has Noah getting on the Ark. The building could be anywhere between a few months to 97 years. I was just going by standard boat building techniques, which fit the scenario perfectly. Unless the Bible specifies differently, I use outside sources to understand. The miracle was not styated to be boat building, but the flood DouglasS |

58 | Did Shem exit the Ark at 98, outlv Abrm? | Gen 11:10 | greentwiga | 140621
One has to be careful when analyzing a geneology. A variety of geneologies in the Bible get compressed. The geneology of David only lists three people for a fou hundred year period. The geneology of Jesus drops out known names. This was fine in the writers eyes. The term father could mean grandfather, great grandfather, etc. It was also used for other purposes. It was used for the master apprentice relationship as in Gen 4:19-21. Father was also used for the founders of a town or country. Thus it could mean what you said, or the flood could have happened hundreds of years earlier than it seems. each word is true, but our interpretations are not always accurate. Greentwiga |

59 | Did Shem exit the Ark at 98, outlv Abrm? | Gen 11:10 | greentwiga | 140692
Dear Pastor Glenn; Look in Matthew 1. Between Uzziah and Jotham, in II Kings 11-15 and II Chron 22-27, there was Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, Azariah (Uzziah) and Jotham. The only one mentioned is Uzziah. Also missing is Jehoaikim. Now Joash, Amaziah and Jotham all were said to do right. Some much more wicked kings are kept in. Still, I acknowledge that the mention of ate age of birth makes it more unlikely that people were dropped out. I am willing to question interpretations, but I will not question the word. That is why I consider the possibility. What does bother me is people who try to make the flood the Black Sea Catastrophe. That requires ignoring parts of the story. Whether Abraham heard it directly or through many generations doesn't matter. Each and every word is true, Just as is the much more ancient story of Adam and Eve. What is really important about the Story of Noah is why He destroyed the world, Wickedness (covenant with spouse breaking), Evil (covenant with God breaking), corruption (bribes), and violence (war). This condemns our generation also. Jesus has every reason to return soon and end this system, for we are no better. You are right, whether some were left out of the geneology or not could get into violating Titus 3:9 Greentwiga |

60 | Did Shem exit the Ark at 98, outlv Abrm? | Gen 11:10 | greentwiga | 140695
That is interesting. I have studied Noah extensively, yet there is always something more to glean from scriptures. Luke does indicate that at least one name was left out of the geneology in Genesis (and in Chronicles). This is despite how Genesis makes it look like no names were left out. Greentwiga |
