761 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 81012
"You mentioned that “Jesus could do no great works there because of unbelief.” Interesting, (that word “there”) because "there" doesn’t “necessarily” include anywhere except “there” wherever “there” happened to be." "This is off the subject of healing sickness and desease but it does speak to 'unbelief'. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Was this unbelief hindering God's work? Remember, Jesus had 'given them authority'. That is an interesting view point. Are you saying unbelief 'there' was somehow different form 'unbelief today? Their unbelief was unique? My friend...unbelief is unbelief regardless of the geographic location. "How many times did Jesus walk by the man who was healed by Peter in Acts 3? That man had been placed there daily for years. And how come Peter didn’t heal him the day, week, or month before? It says they went there everyday to pray. And it says the man was laid there every day." What did Peter say of this miracle? "And on the basis of faith (25) in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all." Faith in the Name of Jesus mad this man whole. As for Jesus passing many times, this is not stated in scripture..but if Jesus did pass many times, do you think Jesus was 'lacking in faith' that would have healed? Since he was healed by faith in Jesus it had to either be Peter's faith or the lame man's faith...Either way, it was 'by faith'. "There are soooooooooooo many other examples that cancel the doctrine of “perfect health” for all. Jesus even said in effect, "Doctors are for the sick." If sickness is NOT of God. Neither are doctors." God created doctors to correct the deseases He puts on us? No, if He wants us sick why would we go to doctors to get better. If He wants to teach us through sickness...we need to cease in our efforts to get well. This thread was created to discuss 2 Corinthians and it's use in the doctrine of sickness being the 'suffering with Christ' Paul was speaking of. God bless |

Their unbelief was unique? My friend...unbelief is unbelief and has the same effect regardless of the geographic location. Concerning the power of unbelief.... "And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." As for Jesus passing many times, this is not stated in scripture..but if Jesus did pass many times, do you think Jesus was 'lacking in faith' that would have healed? Since he was healed by faith in Jesus then faith had to be lacking previously and it had to either be Peter's faith or the lame man's faith...Either way, it was 'by faith'. "There are soooooooooooo many other examples that cancel the doctrine of “perfect health” for all. Jesus even said in effect, "Doctors are for the sick." If sickness is NOT of God. If He wants to teach us through sickness...we need to cease in our efforts to get well. Stop trying to resist God's will. This thread was created to discuss 2 Corinthians and it's use in the doctrine of sickness being the 'suffering with Christ' Paul was speaking of. Do you have any further observations on this particular study? I do not believe we should use these scriptures to promote a doctrine they in no wise state, regardless of your belief concerning God's will concerning sickness and desease. God bless |

763 | Define 'spiritual death' | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83110
John, "My last point is that if Christ had died spiritually as well as physically, it would mean that the Trinity would not have existed as such during the time between His death and resurrection." I do not understand this statement. Please define 'spiritual death' so I can understand your reasoning here. It is my understanding that the spirit, whether man's or God's will never 'cease to exist' or expire. So to me spiritual death for man in sin is eternal seperation from the Father in hell. Conciousness and awareness never ceasing. So to say Jesus 'died spiritually' is not to say He ceased to exist but rather was seperated from the Father spiritually. The question here then would be...Did Jesus experience spiritual seperation from the Father when He was made sin for us. Does not the majority of theologians agree that Jesus was spiritually seperated from the Father when the sins of mankind were layed upon Him? Jesus Himself said "My God, My God, why have your forsaken me?" Did the Father forsake the 'man' Jesus and not the God part of Jesus? Or was the redemption actually God sacrificing Himself (the Word portion of the trinity) for sin? Just some thoughts... God bless |

764 | Define 'spiritual death' | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83118
Justme: "The misnomer that Jesus went to hell is taught is some groups that usually do not believe in the trinity." Now I am even more confused. If 'Abraham's bosom' was a department of Hell that held the faithful dead such as Abraham and Jacob..and Jesus preached to the dead in Paradise, He must have gone at least to a part of Hell. This is the common belief among all mainstream denomininations, is it not? Yet you seem to be saying that people who believe He went to Abraham's bosom or the holding place that one do not believe in the trinity? Help me understand...because maybe I am just not hearing you correctly. I am not at all being antagonistice either just in case it sounds like it. Secondly: "Can God who is present every where and is all seeing turn his back on anyone? God may Judge us, punish us, but Christ was God! Can God turn against Himself? To come close to a Hank Hanegraagg words. the lie that Jesus went to hell is a lie from hell itself. I pretty much agree." Spiritual death was experienced by Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, as well as the unfaithful dead. Scripture indicates they were in seperate parts of hell. Now whether you believe Jesus went to Paradise as the holding place or the place of torment and exited through Paradise, the fact is He 'descended' which was spiritual death. I am having a very difficult time even understanding what the question is...Did He descend into the place of torment where Lazarus was or whether He went only to Paradise, it is still hell. But the subject of spiritual death should not even be in question here! He descended and was seperated from the Father. this seperation bagan while He was on the cross when he cried, 'My God, My God..." God bless |

765 | Where did the Holy Spirit go? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83119
"We must have scriptural support for all of our doctrines before we may accept their veracity." Thus the reason for the post being marked with the ??? "The spirit of Christ is the Holy Spirit and is also called the spirit of God. To say that Jesus died spiritually would mean that the Holy Spirit also experienced death, which would imply that the Father experienced spiritual death as well." So when Jesus the man descended into 'Paradise" a part of Hell... where did the Holy Spirit go? God bless |

766 | Where did the Holy Spirit go? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83147
Good morning Ray, "1) I disagree with you when you speak of the Holy Spirit being the spirit [sic]. Was that a typo?" Ray, this was a quote from John Reformed post. I just copied it. "3) Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." However, Christ did not sin; He was not a sinner. This One who knew no sin, He made to be sin on our behalf; but there is a difference between being sin and being a sinner who is separated from God." Correct, He was sinless. However, He took our sins. If He was only the 'sin sacrifice' the the Father would not have had to 'forsake' Him...but if He was 'made sin for us' was and the Father had to forsake Him, is that not the spiritual death you defined above? Not His sins but our sins. The statement John made in which I was questioning was that scripture clearly states that Jesus Christ descended, went to Hell, Hades, or Paradise, the bowles of the earth..and whether one sees that as the holding place or the place the rich man went to, He still experienced 'seperation from the Father' which is spiritual death. It was temporal becuase He Himself was sinless and God raised Him from the dead. What I am not understanding from Justme and John's posts is how did the spirit of Jesus(man) go to Hades and not the Spirit of Christ(God)? Was He 'divided'? If Jesus was, and is, God and man, then God and man experienced the "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" While I agree ardently that the natural mind can't comprehend the trinity and how God can forsake 'Himself', the fact is Jesus was man and God and he gave Himself for us. This is the POWER of the Gospel!!! Martin Luther exclaimed after meditating on this,"God forsaken of God! Who can understand that?" God bless |

767 | Where did the Holy Spirit go? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83150
This is not MY conclusion. This was a question directed to John in response to his statement, "The spirit of Christ is the Holy Spirit and is also called the spirit of God. To say that Jesus died spiritually would mean that the Holy Spirit also experienced death, which would imply that the Father experienced spiritual death as well." We know that Jesus was man and God and we know He was filled with the Holy Spirit in the Jordan River, so when He descended either the Holy Spirit went with Him or left Him to descend alone. I believe Jesus was God and man. I believe in the trinity 3 persons in ONE. Hope this clears up the confusion. God bless |

768 | Define 'spiritual death' | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83156
Justme...Now you have jumped forward to a different aspect of the discussion. Did He go the the place of torment or did He go to Abraham's Bosom which was within hearing range of the place of torment, but all...Abraham's bosom, the place of torment where Lazaarus went or the lake of fire....all three are catagorized as part of Hell. This was not what the discussion was about. Please re read my post...I did not say as you seemed to hear, that Jesus went to the place of torment... I said,"He must have gone at least to a part of Hell. This is the common belief among all mainstream denomininations, is it not?" Acts 2:27 BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY. The question was, "Did Jesus die spiritually?" Whether you call Hades Abraham's Bosom, or interpret it as the place of torment where Lazarus was...it is still Hades..Hell. The question was, what is spiritual death? I believe Ray gave a really good response to this question. "I am not tring to make you upset but this is a very serious point of that the Godhead is over all, and would not allow satan to torture Jesus Christ. Peace." Thank you, and nor am I. But the fact is Jesus came for that very reason...to suffer the penalty of death we would have suffered, to take our place. This is the truth of the gospel my brother! Jesus was God come in the flesh to pay the penalty of death WE DESERVED. Jesus the Word died our death for us. Maybe we can discuss this more later. I am out of time. God bless God bless |

769 | Define 'spiritual death' | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83177
"Romans talks a lot on the second death which is "spiritual death" this second death is for those who have rejected Jesus Christ. Jesus did not suffer "spiritual death"." "There are those in the Word of Faith movement that teach this doctrine." This is not relevant to the study. If we on the forum can keep the study to scripture, we all can benefit. True...but prior to Jesus' death the dead in faith were kept in Abraham's bosom because it was not possible that the blood of animals could cleanse them. After the resurrection of Christ, the order of things changed...Abraham's bosom ceased to exist (as I understand it) So Jesus was still under the Old Covenant. "I don't believe the Word of Faith movement is a demonation in the same way as Lutherians, Southern Baptist and the like are." These are the ones I was referring to... Read my post to Ray. Also now answer the question. The scripture I quoted in Acts 2 is speaking of Jesus? Do you see Hades as as Abraham's bosom? I Abraham's bosom a department of Hell? Was Jesus God? Did God the Father 'forsake Jesus' as Jesus Himself said? If Jesus/ God went to Hades (descended)seperated from God...spiritual death...due to our sin.... "All I can say is The Bible by it's self stands, and anything that does not fall in line with Scripture I reject. I wish for peace." Absolutely! God's Word is the only Truth....I agree! If you will answer the above questions, with scripture, I believe you will find them to be true. Remember, I am not addressing the teaching that Jesus went to the the place of 'torment' where Lazarus was..that is another subject. This is GREAT! We have actually had a discussion (somewhat Biblical) and remained courteous! there is hope! God bless |

770 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83200
"I agree that our human souls do not die, nor did Jesus'. And his human soul never lost its union with his Divine Spiritual Personhood in the Blessed Trinity." Emmaus, how do you interpret Matthew 27:46? And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" God bless |

Praying Psalm 22. But is also expresses that Jesus is experiencing the wrath of God as He suffered for our sins. But we need to know what Jesus knew, that Psalm 22 starts in apparent forsakenness but ends in glory." 'apparent forsakenness' While there is not doubt that Jesus arose victorious, He experienced the seperation from the Father because of sin, though not His own, still suffered the wrath of God. Spiritual death is seperation from the Father. While I realize it is incomprehensible,God forsaking God, but I see scripture leaveing us no other alternative. John 1..Jesus, Word, God.. Acts 2.. thou will not leave His soul in Hades... God bless |

Do these towo statements contradict? "I believe that refers to the human soul of Jesus, as it would to our human souls, but not to Jesus' Divine essence which could not be lost for even a second with destroying the central doctrine of the Christian faith which is the Trinity." "A study of the doctrine of the "hypostatic union" is what is needed to understand why Jesus could not be separated from his Divine essence." The Holy Spirit is here to lead and guide us into ALL truth. God is not 'hiding' the truth. Truth is not a great hidden mystery. Although I know we will not see it all in this life because of our tendency to lean toward human understanding, that does not mean the truth is HIDDEN. The problem with us is that when we can't comprehend it with our carnal minds, we hold fast to our theology and call the lack of understanding a mystery! Jesus the Son of God went into Hades...God's Word says so....And since He was all God and all man, He was not seperated from His Divine Essence, and the Trinity was not destroyed. So the theology must be wrong because God's Word is not. If we are ever going to understand Divine truth, we must first acknowledge the Word says what it says and if it disturbsa our theology, the our theology should be the one that goes...not the Truth of the Word of God. If the Word says that Jesus Christ, the third person of the Trinity went into Hades, He did! And since the Trinity did not disipate, apparently the theology is wrong. Jesus, the Son of God, second person of the Godhead, went into Hades. And remained there three days! Then God the Father raised Him from the dead, because it was impossible that He should be held. "Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." God bless |

773 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83248
To believe it was merely a physical death would have to mean that Jesus the God speprated from Jesus the man at the cross and Hesus the man descended into Hades. His physical body remained in the tomb until God raised Him. Isaiah 53:9 And HE made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in HIS death; because he had done no violence, nither was any deceit in HIS mouth." Who was HE? Jesus the Christ, the Word, the Son of God, that made His grave with the wicked... Remember..spiritual death is not the ceasaton of existence for the spirit, but rather the seperation from the Father. For us it would be eternal seperation, for Jesus it was 3 days. Jesus declared from the cross,"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me." Whether this seperation was for a minute or three days, Jesus/God was seperated from the Father, unless you beieve Jesus did not mean what He said. Persnally I believe these Words were literal. The fact is, regardless of the extent of His death, whether the extreme physical and emotional agony He suffered up to and on the cross at Calvary or the extended suffering of lose of His eternal connection with God the Father for the brief time He was in Hades...the faith in His death and ressurrection as saviour and Lord is the gospel! Neither of these is heretic, and neither deny the trinity. To believe God the Word, Jesus endured spiritual death which was seperation from the Father for the 3 days is to truly understand the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus, the second Person of the Godhead. Oh what a price to pay for mankind, to experience the seperation from the Father whom He had been with forever...we can't emagine or comprehend the depth of that love.. From the heart God bless fran |

774 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83253
"'Moreover, Jesus was not dragged into hell by Satan, but instead committed His spirit to the Father (Luke 23:46) and went directly to paradise" And what is Paradise? As defined by many theologians-the holding place in HELL for the righteous dead. Right? Unless you interpret that as Heaven which would be in direct conflict with Acts 2. What say ye? 'Contrary to the teaching that Christ underwent a change of nature (into a satanic being),' To take on the sin nature as men, we die spiritually becsue our sin has seperated or severed our relationship with God, as it did with Adam. Scripture tells us Jesus was the second Adam 1 Corinthians 15:45 "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." I do not see in the actual quotes anywhere above that KC or anyone here on this forum has said that to die spiritually was to become a 'demonic being'.this is another distortion of what is being taught, or should I say slanderous lie. I guess one would have to look into the 'heart' to know. Satanic beings are created fallen angels. Man in his fallen state can never be a 'fallen created angel'. For man to take on the SIN NATURE is for man be in HIS fallen state, not a 'created demonic angel. Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." "He HIMSELF bore OUR sins in HIS OWN body on the tree." Did He bear our sins or just die for them? Scripture tells us He bore them IN HIS BODY. God bless PS I see radioman, that you are still promoting divisiveness by implying this understanding of scripture is some new doctrine created by KC, in place of Bible Study... Care to join us in discussing Acts 2 or Mark 15:34 "And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" |

776 | Why before He died? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83459
Sorry for the post I just sent...It has been sever days and there were numerous post to read through.. I believe Jesus was speaking of the Father turning away from Him due to the sins of mankind being taken upon Himself. This seperation continued through the 3 days in Hades until the Father raised Him. God bless |

778 | J. Preston Eby? | 2 Cor 11:4 | gracefull | 82873
"I've never even heard of him but this woman on another group is spreading his doctrines like they are gospel, but it seems to be undermining the gospel to me, that's why I'm asking. I'm trying to find a way to reach her." Have you read the teachings for yourself on his web site? Everyone has a web site! If you truly want to compar your beliefs with his, go to the source. The reason I say this is because other's interpretations of teachings can vary, but before you can refute someone else's beliefs, your own convictions (why you believe what you believe) must be solid. Also remember when sharing with another who does not share your understanding...Only the Holy Spirit can change a person. We scatter seed of the Word. I would like to ask this though...when you say this doctrine is 'undermining the gospel'..what do you mean? How do you define 'gospel'and can you give us an example of this teaching undermining the gospel. We may have a little more to work with. God bless |

How can a good God torture people forever? Many born-again believers have a problem with this. Scripture indicates that He made the offer, we choose. It sounds like maybe this doctrine tries to eliminate accountability. God bless |

Good morning Norrie. I took a few minutes and very briefly scan-read through Mr. Eby's teaching on the subject of eternal condemnation. The predominate theme was the question concerning those who had not heard the gospel and how could a just and loving God condemn anyone who had not heard... When he 'pulled it together' to the conclusion that somehow people in Hell still had opportunity for redemption....he gave no scripture that I could see 'at a glance' to explain how those lost that did not hear the gospel were going to hear the gospel once they entered Hell. How does this lady respond to this question? Do these hear from others who are in Hell who heard, and if so, what scripture does she use to back up this idea? God bless |
