Ray, forgive my further incursion... After I signed off during my commute in, the Holy Spirit began to deal with me about the word 'ask'. Luke 11:13 13 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" Although I think this is often read..How much more willing is the Father to give 'salvation' to them who ask...but in context Luke 11 is teaching on persistent praying, persistent, unrelenting seeking..and verse 13 does not seem to fit here, sort of like an after thought unless one realizes we as believers are to 'ask' for the gift of the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit infilling as on Pentecost were instantaneous at the point of conversion, there would be no need to 'ask'. Let's look at another group of scriptures. And the scripture in Acts 2:37 CJB translation: On hearing this, they were stung in their hearts; and they said to Kefa ant the other emissaries, "Brothers, what should we do?" Kefa answered them,"Turn from sin, return to God, and each of you be immersed on the authority of Yeshua the Messiah into forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Ruach Hakodesh! For the promise is for you, and your children, and for those far away as many as Adonai our God may call!" A couple of key points... Peter says 1. Repent-turn from sin 2. Turn to God 3. Be immersed in the authority of Yeshua the Messiah... 4. Receive the gift...Receive means to 'take', such as a gift offered, one must respond by receiving. (Strongs 2983) I do not believe the Holy Spirit infilling was ever supposed to be considered 'optional' for the believer, and scripture seems to indicate (as I believe) it is something to be received after salvation. In Acts 10? the Gentiles received the Holy Spirit , in the same manner as the disciples, after believing and before water baptism, which proves two key doctrinal points.. 1. water baptism is NOT necessary for the infilling. 2. the Holy Spirit/Ghost fell... "While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word." Strong's 1968 2. metaph. 1.to fall upon one i.e. to seize, take possession of him a.of the Holy Spirit, in his inspiration and impulse The Holy Spirit does not 'take possession of' without being 'received'. Acts 10:47 "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?" (received-Strongs 2983) God bless |

Hi Ray here is the CJB translation of verse 33,38 verse 33 "Moreover, He has been exalted to the right hand of God; and has received from the Father what He(the Father) promised, namely, the Ruach HaKodesh; and has poured out this gift which you are both seeing and hearing." Here I believe the giver of the promise is Jesus based on verse 34 For David did not ascend into heaven But he says, Adonai said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand.... I believe this corresponds to Jesus promise, John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. In my other post I spoke of verse 38 which Holy Spirit is also translated 'Ruach HaKodesh'. what do you think? God bless |

Forgive me, Ray, but in all these scriptures listed you do not see the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Trinity promised to take up His abode in each believer as Jesus promised? Tim Moran...where are you? How is Holy Spirit translated in the New Testament? According to my Complete Jewish Bible all of the above verses Holy Spirit is translated 'Ruach HaKodesh'. And in the King James, New King James, and NAS it is translated Holy Spirit. "Gracefull, it appears to me that you were led through the book of Acts while a young adult. That to me would be where you were filled with the holy spirit and received the word of truth. We all are commanded to be filled with the holy spirit." Ray, are you saying to be filled with the holy spirit is to have our human spirit made holy through teh blood? While I agree with this if you are speaking of the new birth, i do not agree with your interpretation that the Holy Spirit Jesus was speaking of is our spirit being made holy. Both my experience and scripture bear witness. I must stay with the interpretaions I trust on this one. When I capitalize pronouns such as Word, it is to convey a message of my belief, the Word being the living Holy Spirit breathed revelation of the person Jesus Christ. An enhancement for communication purposes. I will be out of town for a few days. My mother-in-law is going home to be with the Lord. Her homecoming day! God bless |

"The Person of the Holy Spirit does not take possesion of us or control us, do you think?" Actually this is an excellent description of the infilling. The Holy Spirit possesses as we surrender. This is probably the key reason so many tend to resist His infilling. He 'inhabits' us, takes up His abode in us. A 'possession' through 'surrender' and 'invitation'. But He never 'controls' against our will as in demonic possession, but rather gently speaks and unctions. "So my question is again, "Do we receive the baptism (the infilling) or do we receive the Holy Spirit?" You wrote that "it" was something to be received after salvation." 'it' to be infilling not 'it' the Holy Spirit. He is a person. I believe the 'infilling' is something we choose to accept. I believe at salvation the Holy Spirit regenerates or recreates our dead spirit..thus He 'births' us into the Kingdom. But the infilling is Him taking up His abode within us. Does this answer? I may not be communicating well today. God bless God bless |

Hello Kahari, You have asked probably one of the most important questions a believer should ask. How do I become more like Christ daily... Let me begin by reminding you that you ARE a new creation in Christ Jesus. Your spirit is now reunited in relationship with God your Father through Jesus blood. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. But you have also realized that despite this great truth, you are daily not living like a NEW CREATURE, but still like the OLD. Romans 7:18-19 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my (9) flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. Suggested reading Romans 6-8 Romans 6:13 gives the 'exercise' to overcome sin in our life. I use the word exercise because it is just that, and must be done with diligence. At first it may seem like all you do is struggle against old habbits and thoughts, but just like exercise, eventually these things weaken and you become stronger. Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Our pastor gave a simple illustration of this just a few weeks ago. He moved to the left side of the pulpit and said that over here I was in sin, bound and doomed. God by His Spirit transported me supernaturally to His kingdom. Then after moving to the other side of the pulpit he pointed out that we now have a new mastor, a new Lord. This new Lord is here to give us direction, empower us, and discipline us. When the devil or your flesh yells at you, 'yield' to the right thing... The way to live day by day more like Jesus? Yield your members to righteousness. As His Word comes alive to you by the Holy Spirit, you will understand more and more what that looks like. Our carnal mind before renewal does not understand God's ways. But as the Holy Spirit opens our understanding revealing the heart of the Father more and more, we see how to yield.As we yield by faith, a marvelous thing happens...our heart changes. Forgiveness stops being a superficial act and becomes the forgiveness of the heart.Love goes from being just a selfish word to a selfless unconditional love of God. Suggested reading: Ephesians 1 Colossians 1 Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Hope this helps. Any questions? God bless |

749 | No healing? why? | 2 Cor 1:4 | gracefull | 72963
If you review the various threads, I believe you will find, as I have found, the discussion usually melts down to this statement.. "While I believe God provided healing for every believer through redemption and His sovereignty protects that provision (which must be received by faith just like salvation), others believe God heals some and not others because He is sovereign." Sadly the discussion usually breaks down to us being accused of not believing God is sovereign. Nothing could be further from the truth. Be encouraged and continue in the word, and prayer. Does that make sense? God bless. |

750 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80556
2 Corinthians is commonly used to attempt to afirm the following statement: "God makes us sick sometimes to teach or discpline us." or as some say" God allows us to become sick to teach us." I submit that nowhere in 2 Corinthians is Paul making these above assertions. God teaches through His Word by the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 1:5-7 For just as Messiah's sufferings over flow in us, so through Messiah our encouragement also overflows. So if we undergo trials, it is for our encouragement and deliverance; and if we are encouraged, that should encourage you when you have to endure sufferings like those we are experiencing. Moreover, our hope for you remains staunch, because we know that as you share in the sufferings, you will also share in the encouragement and deliverance. 1. Messiah's sufferings...Messiah's encouragement. Sufferings..Strongs#2347-Anguish, burdoned, persecution, tribulation, troubles. As we are in union with Christ..we share His sufferings.. and in union with Jesus we also partake of His encouragement or KJV says consolation..Messiah did not 'suffer' sickness. These scriptures confirm what Jesus said..In this world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world... What 2 Corinthians says: The sufferings Paul endured are listed in 2 Corinthians 11:23 CJB imprisoned more often suffered more beatings been near death over and over fie times receied 40 lashes less one by the Jews three times I was beaten with rods once I was stoned, three times shipwrecked, in danger, hunger... These are the 'afflictions'. What these scriptures do not say... God inflicted me with sickness to teach me endurance...Thess scriptures tell us that because of our association with Christ Jesus, the world will hate us and persecute us and even try to kill us...And the more diligent and faithful the greater the persecutions. But we also share the ENCOURAGEMENT and DELIVERANCE. 2 Corinthians 12:7 Therefore (due to the visions) thorn...messenger from the Adversary..to pound away at me...after praying three times God said,'..My power(dunamos-miraculous, wonder working) is brought to perfecton in weakness." Adversary-KJV says messenger from Satan- Messenger-Strongs #32 - angel(from Satan) was the thorn... Nothing here even remotely eludes to sickness or desease, much less sickness and desease GOD sent to humble! Unless we are receiving great visions from God, there is no reason to even consider we are in the same category! God bless |
||||||
751 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80564
"There has been much debate on the exact nature of the thorn, of course, but there are a few things that we can be certain of:" There is no room here for debate...scripture is clear..messnger(angel) from Satan.so unless you can say Cancer is an angel from Satan inflicting, there can be no debate...I can see THAT being preached from a pulpit! The messenger is not some illusive word in which you can pick and choose an convenient alternative. "While it was from Satan, it is also true to say it was given by God, since the purpose was to keep Paul from exalting Himself. Satan's purpose is never to humble us before God our Father." Given by God and allowed by God are totally different. Scripture says it was a messenger(angel) FROM Satan. Scripture does not say "from God". God simply did not 'remove' it AND told Paul why! But again...since it "One more note on sickness: Paul praises Epaphroditus as an example of Godly faith in Philippians 2 for sacrificing himself for the cause of Christ in spite of his life-threatening illness." You see 'Paul did not criticize him for lack of faith...' The subject here is not judgementalism. Paul did praise him for his Godly faith in continuing in service despite the sickness in his body and secondly God healed him. The subject is God's will to heal. God healed Epaphroditus... "So whether we are talking about sickness or not, God ordains that uncomfortable, unhappy, and dangerous things happen to His children for His glory. Why someone would simply cut sickness out of that list of uncomfortable, unhappy, and dangerous things doesn't make a lot of sense." By leaving Satan in service...active in the earth..believers will experience great challenges,persections and troubles and as Paul said we have Jesus's encouragement and deliverance... It makes no sense to me and is even wrong to ADD it when it is not there. Remember these are scriptures used to enforce the teaching that sickness is from God to teach us. Only when altered do they substantiate this doctrine. To state that suffering 'should' include sickness and desease is to disagree with what the scripture and the Greek translations state. IN CONTEXT Paul is speaking of suffering as persecutions, and troubles or obstacles...and is not speaking concerning sickness and desease. 1Peter 2:24 The Stone of stumbling... He himself bore our sins in His body on the stake, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness-by His wounds you were healed. Wounds-Strongs #2390 cure, heal, make whole Also used in Matthew 8:8 Matthew 8:13 Mark 5:29 Luke 6:19 Acts 3:11 And many more scriptures pertaining to PHYSICAL HEALING. I am disappointed that in light of these truths, you choose to continue to defend an interpretation of these scriptures that has been created by religion to 'comfort' rather than teach truth, WHEN TRUTH IS THE ULTIMATE COMFORT. God bless |

752 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80566
"affliction" Where do you see the word 'affliction' in 2 Corinthians 12? I see 'messenger(angel) from Satan).'affliction' and 'messenger' are not synominous. Again...affliction as in 2 Corinthians 2:1 means persecutions, hardships and trouble. Messenger is interpreted (angel) and in this cas Satanic angel. "Now that was Paul’s estimate of the situation. God didn’t tell him that He gave him that to keep him humble, but Paul was a man who was prone to brag and boast. Therefore he took it upon himself to believe all of this that was coming upon him was going to help him to stay humble.”[3] Scripture does not bear this out either... Scripture says God allowed the messenger(angel) from Satan to stay to keep Paul humble. "'Paul learned to be content with this abiding affliction, for the Lord taught him that at the very moment that he was weakest in himself, the power of the Lord would be most evident through him, bringing glory to God rather than Paul (verses 9, 10). This lesson desperately needs to be learned by many who are being influenced by the false unlimited healing/prosperity doctrines today." Again you use the word 'afliction' and it is not in this context and to take it a step further, it can't BE used in this context. As for the rest of your statement, this truth is bore out in the scriptures where Paul said "I die daily" meaning his will diminishes as He allows God's will to dominate and is a predominate teaching with some of the attacked teachers. "JESUS IS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD AND THE WORD WAS GOD. GOD'S WORD MUST BE FINAL AUTHORITY. GOD'S WORD IS IS WILL. GOD'S WORD MUST BE ACTED ON BY FAITH IN ORDER TO RECEIVE ANYTHING FROM GOD". In order to receive healing one must first believe it is His will to heal you. The subject is 'Does God make us sick to teach us?" "Is it God's will for me to be sick or deseased". And 2 Corinthians has been used to promote this doctrine...By inserting sickness with our little doctrinal pencil into the list Paul listed. And by penciling in 'affliction' in place of "MESSENGER (ANGEL) OF SATAN'. And by erasing the protion of the statement in 2 Corinthians 1...share in MESSIAH'S SUFFERINGS. Messiah's sufferings was NOT sickness and desease. And erasing the statement...share in MESSIAH'S comfort and deliverance. My prayer is that someone passing through will hear the truth of 2 Corinthians and see the falacy of using these scriptures to promote the teaching that God makes us sick to teach us and that sickness and the word 'suffering' used in 2 Corinthans 2:1 are not synominous! God bless |
||||||
753 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80571
"Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself"...Satan gave me a thorn in the flesh? Does this make sense to you? Either God did the giving or Satan is willingly doing the sanctifying work of God." This does not create a theological problem for me. what Satan means for harm, God turns to my good. Satan insitgated the death of Jesus, thus providing life for whosoever will.... But again, this does not address the subject.... The thorn is a messenger(angel) not sickness. "For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls." --1 Peter 2:21-25 Now, reading the whole paragraph, is Peter's focus sin and spiritual healing, or illness and physical healing? Please support your answer in the context of his argument in the paragraph, chapter, and epistle. In context...the truth that "by His wounds we were healed" does not change. His wounds, our healing. God bless |

757 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80881
Talmid..Thank you for your post. By considering your chosen text, I gather you believe we should read Isa. 53:10 as what we too should experience? 2 Corinthians 1 says we will share His sufferings (by association) but that we will also share His comfort and deliverence (by association). However, Jesus did not 'suffer' from sickness and desease...until He took ours. And suffering was not forced upon Him, He accepted it when it was time. "My time has not come" and later He said 'No man takes my life from me, I lay it down'. Isaiah 53:4-6 states that Jesus took our sicknesses and deseases through the atonement..Just like our sin...(see Mathew Henry) You will also notice when you read this commentary that although Matthew Henry acknowledges that healing is part of the atonement, he 'issues a disclaimer' which had absolutely NO scriptural references to support the disclaimer. This disclaimer , and I agree, instructs the believer to search the scriptures regarding healing. The 'suffering' of believers should be carefully searched out scripturally because I believe traditions teach that 'all bad things' are 'suffering with or for Christ'. Paul in 2 Corinthians makes NO mention of sickness and desease as part of the sufferings, so I do not believe we should add it where it is not stated. Rest...See Hebrews chapter 3 and 4 and listen carefully to 'rest'. 1.Seek to define scriptural rest. 2.Seek to determine how to achieve it. talib...tradition has 'penciled' in sickness and desease where it is does not belong. The reason I believe this is because of Isaiah 53. God chose to (by secondary nuance) add healing to the statement of Jesus atonement. God bless |

758 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80895
Per Matthew Henry's commentary: Healing Is Part of Jesus' Mission (8:17) "The context in Isaiah 53 suggests that the suffering servant's death would heal the nation from its sin (Is 53:4-6, 8-9; compare 1 Pet 2:22-25), a figurative expression frequent in the Prophets (Mt 13:15; Is 6:10; 57:18; Jer 3:22; 6:14; 8:11; 14:19; Hos 14:4). But the broader context of Isaiah shows God's promise for his people's complete wellness in the era of the kingdom (Is 29:18; 32:3-4; 35:5-6), suggesting secondary nuances of physical healing in 53:4-5 as well. The servant's suffering would, after all, restore to Israel all the benefits lost through sin (compare Ex 15:26; Deut 27-28). Thus Matthew cites Isaiah 53:4 to demonstrate that Jesus' mission of healing fulfills the character of the mission of the servant, who at the ultimate cost of his own life would reveal God's concern for a broken humanity. Matthew himself also recognizes that genuine physical healings can illustrate principles of spiritual healing (9:5-7, 12; 13:15). But we should note the correct caution of D. A. Carson (1984:207): "BLOCK - This text and others clearly teach that there is healing in the Atonement; but similarly there is the promise of a resurrection body in the Atonement, even if believers do not inherit it until the Parousia. From the perspectives of the NT writers, the Cross is the basis for all the benefits that accrue to believers; but this does not mean that all such benefits can be secured at the present time on demand, any more than we have the right and power to demand our resurrection bodies. Because the kingdom is present as well as future, God often heals in the present, but what he does not choose to heal now he has promised to heal in the end (Blomberg 1992:145). More practically than simply quoting a few verses that address healing, we should meditate on biblical examples of healing and what we can learn thereby about how God feels about human pain. By doing so we can develop deeper intimacy in our relationship with Jesus, trusting his compassion, which is the basis for every kind of healing he graciously performs." But the broader context of Isaiah shows God's promise for his people's complete wellness in the era of the kingdom (Is 29:18; 32:3-4; 35:5-6), suggesting secondary nuances of physical healing in 53:4-5 as well. "Complete wellness in the era of the kingdom..." As one reads on to Carlson's notes one finds that although Matthew Henry finds healing an undeniable fact of the atonement...He chooses to speculate on the meaning of 'kingdom'. "The servant's suffering would, after all, restore to Israel all the benefits lost through sin (compare Ex 15:26; Deut 27-28)." "But we should note the correct caution of D. A. Carson (1984:207):" "Because the kingdom is present as well as future, God often heals in the present, but what he does not choose to heal now he has promised to heal in the end." Where is Carson's scriptural basis for this comparison of healing to the ressurection? While I do agree that everyone does not receive healing and that when we get to heaven we will be healed, this fact in no way addresses God's will to heal here in this life, and is in fact an attempt to disallow the fact that Christ paid for healing in the atonement, by implying it was bought only for some in this life and some in the next. "You can make all the emotional appeals as you would like, accusing people of "penciling things in" and of denying that Jesus ever healed anyone." I do not know what you mean by the second half of this statement because I know some in the forum believe in healing to some extent. But the penciled in part in regard to 2 Corinthians means adding sickness and desease where Paul spoke of 'suffering'. I noticed Talib seemed to be going in the same direction. God bless |

759 | 2 Corinthians- What is 'suffering' | 2 Cor 1:5 | gracefull | 80907
And we know that [3] God causes (59) all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are (60) called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He (61) foreknew, He also (62) predestined to become (63) conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the (64) firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He (65) predestined, He also (66) called; and these whom He called, He also (67) justified; and these whom He justified, He also (68) glorified. 31 (69) What then shall we say to these things? (70) If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who (71) did not spare His own Son, but (72) delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against (73) God's elect? (74) God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who (75) condemns? Christ Jesus is He who (76) died, yes, rather who was [4] (77) raised, who is (78) at the right hand of God, who also (79) intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from (80) the love of [5] Christ? Will (81) tribulation, or distress, or (82) persecution, or (83) famine, or (84) nakedness, or (85) peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, "(86) FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly (87) conquer through (88) Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither (89) death, nor life, nor (90) angels, nor principalities, nor (91) things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from (92) the love of God, which is (93) in Christ Jesus our Lord. You said,"It is a pernicious doctrine because it denies the sovereignty of God in allowing disease to exist for His glory." (Romans 8:28) For those whom He (61) foreknew, He also (62) predestined to become (63) conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the (64) firstborn among many brethren; Predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ... LET ME MAKE ONE THING PERFECTLY CLEAR..(emphasis-not emotion nor shouting) The sovereign will of God is His Word. His sovereign will does not supersede His covenant, which is His Word. Do you agree? If so....... I am in no way saying God is not sovereign. The difference in belief here is not God's sovereignty but rather His will as defined in His covenant! I believe healing is provided through the atonement as stated in Isaiah 53 for all who receive by faith, just as salvation is received by faith in Jesus. You call it heresy because it disagrees with 'traditional orthodox teaching'. If scripture disagrees with traditional orthodox teaching-so be it. "Did God really allow such an important, "MAJOR" element of His gospel to be absent from the church for century upon century until we "enlightened" couch-potato Christians suddenly figured it out?" Religious leaders and then the dark ages of hidden "Word" kept truth suppressed. This truth came back out before television. Television is an instrument for reaching many...Or do you view TV as an instrument of the devil? Or are you simply 'profiling' WOF believers as believers who do not go to church? Most go to church AND study via TV. God bless |

Who GAVE Moses’ sister and brother leprosy? Read Deuteronomy 28:15-68 to learn what the God, who changes not, "promises" to do to and with His people. If you believe scripture confirms your belief... fine...if you accept it because it is what you have been taught or because you have not 'seen proof' these are the wrong reasons. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Jesus COULD DO NO GREAT WORKS THERE BECAUSE OF THEIR UNBELIEF.... What do you think of that? Moses sister received leprosy for murmoring and inciting the people against Moses, God's chosen spokes person... God bless |
