721 | Praying in tongues? | 1 Cor 14:1 | gracefull | 76811
Hi Sarah, Yes indeed and this seems to be the pitfall of most discussions. Many can't recognize the difference and try to group both under gift and then state that 'all do not have the gift'. Tongues os a supernatural manifestaion of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer (who accepts by faith)in which the Holy Spirit prays for and through the believer. Paul said 'I pray with the Spirit and I pray with the understanding. I sing with the Spirit and I sing with the understanding also.'(available to all) But he also speaks of speaking in the congregation aloud, the GIFT, and having the GIFT of interpretation. This is the Holy Spirit speaking to the body for it's edification.(given at administered at the discretion fo the Holy Spirit) Does this help? God bless |

722 | Praying in tongues? | 1 Cor 14:1 | gracefull | 76816
Certainly, just as you walk in the Spirit. Praying the Word, acting on the Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to direct your prayer. But once you accept the prayer language the Holy Spirit can bypass your intellect(which often tries to filter through our understanding) and prays straight from your spirit. The level of prayer is heightened. The Holy Spirit is aware of things in your heart that even you may not be able to acknowledge, and He prays for you, and He also interceeds for persons and situations you are not aware of. Intercession is where praying in tongues is most valuable. When we are praying for others we do not really know what to pray, but He does. God bless |

723 | Praying in tongues? | 1 Cor 14:1 | gracefull | 76830
Let me put it a little different. We are not talking about what He can do, but the quality with which He can do. 1 Corinthians 14:14 is the only one I am aware of speaking specifically of tongues, and that is because it is in the context of the subject and Paul states the seperation of praying in the Spirit and praying with the understanding whereas if we speak our language, we understand(brain engaged-hopefully) before we speak. You are looking for a scripture where the word pray and tongues is used in the same verse. I do not know of one. God bless |

724 | Jesus cast into hell?? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 82997
I find it interesting that you accepted Hank's statements without scriptural backup, but would not accept the above mentioned teaching without scripture. Why? John 16:3 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." God bless |

Yes, it actually did have to do with the question. God bless |

726 | Jesus cast into hell?? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 83006
I was encouraging jlpangilinan to search out the subject rather than simply taking others conclusions as scriptural fact. If one has a question on a subject, one should search out the truth. God sent the Holy Spirit for that purpose. Proverbs says that one way seem right until we hear the other side. The unbiased truth is usually somewhere in the middle. God bless |

727 | Graceful are you here? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 83083
Good question...if so, I choose word of faith based on Hebrews 11:6 alone."But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." God bless |

Debbie, "It seems no one can back it up.. I've searched since then. And found only that Christ descended to the lower parts of the earth.." You are not getting a strong response to this because.. some of us who are willing to discuss different views have difficulty in actualy discussing differing views, as you can see from the swift deterioration of this thread. I suggest you begin by reading Genesis 2:16-17 and define 'death'. Also if you will supply me with your e-mail address I can direct you to an indepth apologetic that will supply you with enough scriptural study to come to an informed conclusion. God bless |

729 | Jesus cast into hell?? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 83095
Proverbs 18:17 The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him. "..... And I presume you are determined to continue to ignore my question about your position on the WOF doctrine of Jesus in hell. Are you trying to hide something?" All one needs to do is look some of the other threads to understand why I have no intentions of discussing this with you, Hank. Just listen to your above posted remark. God bless |

730 | Graceful do you understand Pro 4:5? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 83097
Good morning imf, This does tend to be true..Proverbs addresses 'much speaking'quite often. I take the following scriptures very seriously and am very grateful for the Holy Spirit teaching me early that to cease to be humble and teachable is to cease to grow. 1 Corinthians 4:4-5 "4.My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5.Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God." Although I do believe with my whole heart what I believe, it is not in me to be excessively critical of those who disagree (I am a human as they are and they as human as myself) especially when they confess the basis of our faith..Jesus Christ. As a dear sister in the Lord just said..and I quote "..in the integrity of my heart I want to know the truth." My friend, if you are reading this, my joy is full today because of you! God bless |

731 | Jesus cast into hell?? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 83152
Hank's post: "Wablast, what you obviously witnessed on television was the brand of heresy being taught by one of the charlatans of the Word-Faith Movement. No, you won't find any scriptural support for their assertion that Jesus paid the price for our sins in hell for the sole reason that there is none. When Jesus said from the cross, "It is finished," He was signifying that His entire work of redemption had been brought to completion. Man's salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of this redemption of Jesus Christ on the cross, the merit of His shed blood, and that alone. What you heard on television was an heretical, highly unscriptural doctrine that denies the sufficiency of Christ's death on the cross. It is false. I beg you, do not be deceived by it. --Hank" "You quoted John 16:3, do you think because Hank did put a whole verses when he quoted "it is finish" hank already speak about himself. Hank simply exaplain about the redemption by Christ and not of himself. Did hank praise himself or Christ? I hope you understand the verse that you quoted." I do not see that Hank answered the question asked by Wablast, but rather took the oportunity to ridicule others and call the questioned doctrine heresy and then stated one scripture to prove his point. The scripture cited in no way proves the teaching as heresy. As for my reference to John, the message is that God sent us the Holy Spirit to lead us into His Truth and that we should not so readily accept the conclusions of men, but as Proverbs states, we should 'hear both sides' of a matter. Then ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth to us. I believe the body of Christ, the church, is spiritually weak due to believers accepting man's teaching of scripture and not going the next step of asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of the matter, which is where we are truly changed. As a teacher myself, I encourage every believer to search the scriptures and to not fear listening to various teachings because if their heart is sincere, the Holy Spirit will reveal the Truth. Does this explain my message? God bless |

I do not believe his response was a conclusive answer for the subject being discussed, and his effort to discourage further research disturbes me for the reason's I cited, ie the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of each believer. God Bless, |

These are quoted from the King James version... Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? Matthew 12:38-40 38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. ACTS 2 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 HE SEEING THIS BEFORE SPAKE OF THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST, THAT HIS SOUL WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL, NEITHER DID HIS FLESH SEE CORRUPTION. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. This prophesy of David was speaking of Jesus. God bless |

I was reading the thread and posted to the initial post from DD before I realized it was an old post. So I decided to share these with you God bless Answer: These are quoted from the King James version... Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? Your not alone. I do suggest you consider this... The rules for chat rooms are different from this forum. Here one must use scripture references for statements of faith. Although eveyone here sometimes lapses, we try to get back on track by saying "I believe....because scripture says....". (I could not help but notice some of the non scriptural responses you received.) When you do not do this, but rather post your understanding of the 'message' such as your above post, you will feel 'attacked'. You will find that this challenges you to go back to scripture over and over which is a great growth exercise. It can be a very positive experience, though trying sometimes. God bless |

736 | Tongues?Ecstatic Utterances or Languages | 2 Corinthians | gracefull | 83594
Transliterated word EAN "if, in case" The fact that Paul is speaking in a hypothetical regarding 'speaking' does not mean that tongues of men and angels is hupothetical. In the context the statment is clearly communicating that these in their greatest extent..ie understand ALL mysteries, and ALL knowledge, and tough he had faith to remove mountains....(Matthew 17:20 confirms that this is possible, "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." To have faith to remove mountains is real. The gift of prophesy is real. 1 Corinthians 14:1 "Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy." We can understand mysteries: Mark 4:11 "And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:" 1 Cor. 2:7 1 Cor. 15:51 Ephesians 1:9 Ephesians 3:4 " 6:19 Colossians 1:26-27, 4:3 1 Timothy 3:19 Several times in Revelation a 'mystery' was shown to John. Though I give...my goods Though I give...my body to be burned Although I do not have 'proof' that tongues of angels do exist and are available to us, every other example Paul gives here IS provable. In context the emphasis is on the extremist of each ot these 'possible' and 'real' options..it is more reasonable to believe tongues of angels is as real and available as the rest. without love these are unprofitable to me. Why would Paul use an example of a mystical or impossible example to preempt this statement? Even WITH love angelic tongues would be unprofitable to me because they are not an option for me. By implication with love...these would be profitable to me. But if one does not believe in the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in the operation of the charismata (gifts) today..One cannot be convinced of 'angelic tongues' if one cannot be convinced of 'prophesy' even tough Paul said to desire spiritual gifts..ie the gifts listed and taught of in chapter 12. Gd bless |

Part two Complete Jewish Boble 1 Corinthians 13 I may speak in the tongues of men, even angels; but if I lack love, I have become merely blaring brass or a cymbal clanging. (I have become) I may have the gift of prophecy, I may fathom all mysteries, know all things, have all faith-enough to move mountains; but if I lack love, I am nothing. ( I am nothing ) I may give away everything that I own, I may even hand over my body to be burned; but if I lack love, I gain nothing. (I gain nothing) I perceive that opposing interpretation has 'tongues..and of angels' in the same context as 'ALL'. One certainly could..However I wonder..speculate...does anyone here in the forum who believes in the gifts of the Spirit..Charismata...are still in operation in the Body of Christ today interpret it this way? Interested in input.. God bless |

"(a) A very earnest amplifying of the matter, as if he said, "IF THERE WERE ANY TONGUES OF ANGELS," I understand this could be a viable rendering and as this in no way impacts my belief in the current and relavant activity of the gift of tongues, have no problem with either. Your note: 'not that angels have tongues in a proper sense, or speak any vocal language, in an audible voice, with articulate sounds; for they are spirits immaterial and incorporeal; though they have an intellectual speech, by which they celebrate the perfections and praises of God, and can discourse with one another, and communicate their minds to each other; see (Isaiah 6:3) (Daniel 8:13). Isaiah 6:3 And one called out to another and said, Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." Strong's #559 Called "answer, call, command, misc., promised, said, speak, tell" Daniel 8:13 13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to that particular one who was speaking, "How long will the vision about the regular sacrifice apply, while the transgression causes horror, so as to allow both the holy place and the host to be trampled?" I strongly disagree with this statement. I can't see mental telepathy even being vaguely implied. Strong's #559-Speaking 'answer, call, command, misc., promised, said, speak, tell' Clearly NOT telepaty or body language or any other form of noverbal communication. Your note: " '[The apostle refers to] the speech of angels, when they have assumed human bodies, and have in them spoke with an audible voice, in articulate sounds; of which we have many instances, both in the Old Testament and the New, wherein they have conversed with divers persons, as Hagar, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Manoah and his wife, the Virgin Mary, Zechariah, and others;" I strongly disagree with this statement. Although I readily see where demonic spirits speak through humans, where in scripture does the angel speaking/ wrestling with Jacob or speaking with the virgin Mary was angels assuming human bodies? "'unless by the tongues of angels should be meant the most eloquent speech, and most excellent of languages; or if there can be thought to be any tongue that exceeds that of men, which, IF ANGELS SPOKE, they would make use of. Just as the face of angels is used, to express the greatest glory and beauty of the face, or countenance, (Acts 6:15) and angels' bread is used for the most excellent food, (Psalms 78:25) . . .'" Possible but one would have to still view them as 'gifts of tongues' or 'unlearned' or 'unknown' languages as this is the subject of the text. God bless |

740 | What were, are, they filled with? | 2 Corinthians | gracefull | 83678
"1) This shows me that you have a blend of the Holy Spirit and Jesus that is the Baptizer. What are you baptized with? With what does the Holy Spirit/Jesus baptize? Hi Ray, Asis is very eloquent so his/her response should be more than adequate, but I wanted to share a moment if I may.I have before testified to this but am compelled again on this gentle thread where others may come seking. Matthew 3:11 [John 1:33; Acts 2:3, 4; Titus 3:5] He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. I was 'saved' as a child. Drawn by the Holy Spirit in a very real manner to the alter of Grace. At this point I was born again. (I did not understand that term at the time). As a young adult I was sharing my testimony with someone and was sharing that although I knew I was saved and going to heaven, I sensed there was something missing. He began to share that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a different surrender of submission to God, and led me through the book of Acts. When I was 'filled' I knew that the Holy Spirit had come into my life in a new way. The only way to describe this is that just as salvation was a darkness to light experience, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was equally so. Baptism or infilling of the Holy Spirit is supernatural empowerment and requires a surrender of the will. Many believers do not want God working in their life this way, some from fear, and some from a lack of willingness to surrender their will to this degree, and some from simply not believing He wants to, or can fill them and empower them. "What causes them to speak in tongues?" I personally believe the evidence of tongues is for the 'filled' believer to realize they have moved from natural to supernatural, and to assure them that He is indeed present to work.Speaking in tongues edifies the believer. Speaking in tongues is a humbling experience, not one of pride as some think. Pride will prevent one from yielding. However, it does bring a new BOLDNESS to the believer that some may misinterpret as pride. Which brings me to your second question.. "2) You said that we can quench that utterance from the Holy Spirit. 1 Thess 5:19,20 says, "Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances." What is quenched then; the spiritual utterances (prophecies) or the Spirit?" Just as the infilling requires a surrender of our will, so does obedience to the unctioning of the Holy Spirit to operate in the gifts. A person can still allow fear or pride to tempt them to disobey the Holy Spirit..(On a very personal note..I did this once and the grieving conviction was SO great, I have not since resisted His unction) The unction of the Holy Spirit is like Ezekiel said..a fire within, it is a burning strong desire to speak or act. To 'quench' that is to suppress it the Holy Spirit's unction to the point that one does not obey and act. The Holy Spirit will withdraw the unction and conviction will emediately set in. "I would say that we should be filled with holy spirit, being baptized with holy spirit. How far are we apart in how we see this?" I would say that we hould be filled with the Holy Spirit, Himself alowing Him to lead and work through me supernaturally. Forgive my testimonial style in this writing, and not providing as much scripture as you may expect. Purhaps I will have more time later. God bless |
