701 | Stay marriaed at all costs? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 87251
Hi Shelly, I have read some of the responses and must say that I am surprised at the number of believers who have all but said, 'Ignore God's word and do what you 'feel' is right'. Even the statement that God would not expect you to do thus and such, but no scriptural support was given for these opinions. Shame on you forum members! I am sure the scriptures have already been presented to you on this issue, so I would like to ask you to clarify another statement you made. Although you are applying it to the subject of divorce, I would like to ask you it this is your belief on other topics. You asked,"Is that God's plan for me? I have to suffer for the rest of my life, and possibly get killed because Of Religious LAWS?" My question is "Do you consider God's Word 'religious laws'?" If you would please...give your thoughts on the following verses. 2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. |

Tim, I am disappointed..though I understand your impassoned feelings on this subject. You said 1) 1 Cor. 2:16 says that we have the "mind of Christ". If God calls someone to shepherd His people, I believe that He gives us direction on how to advise them." The first authority we have to determine the mind of Christ is God's Word. Having read so many of your posts, I am truly surprised at your response on this thread. "2) Secondly, women in the Bible had no right to divorce. It was only the husbands who could. Therefore, the rules in Scripture were given to protect women, not punish them. I don't see anything in Scripture that says a man can beat a woman, or that a woman must life with it." While I agree that wives are to be loved as Christ loved the church, this command was given to husbands. Scripture gives wives directions, as well. "for instance, Scripture doesn't tell us what to do about car jackings! :-)" This is true, but scripture does give very specific instructions on relationships and divorce. "no, I'm not at all uncomfortable in adivising someone to get out of an abusive and dangerous situation." A woman who does not have her relationship with God developed to the point where she can hear God's specific instructions for her situation should seperate and seek God for His wisdom and guidance through the Word and the Holy Spirit. God is the defender of the righteous. He is our shield and our buckler.. God bless |

703 | Are you kidding? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 87256
"So are you saying that she should have stayed with her abusive husband and took her punishment? Do you really think Jesus would have told her to shut up and take the abuse because you married him?" Let's get our emotions out of the way and look at God's own words....Jesus did voice the will of God in His ministry here and through the Apostles. God's Word does give specific instructions for dealing with our enemies and those that despitefully use us... Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; But He also give specific promises of protection for those that turn to Him for their defense. Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He gives specific promises that He hears and answers us when we ask in faith and according to His will. 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: He also promises to speak to us and give us His wisdom and guidance. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He warns us not to rely on the wisdom of men 1 Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Our God through Jesus Christ has provided His best. When we choose to disobey, we miss His best. What would be His best in this type of situation? Delivering the abusive husband and bringing him to repentance, making both witnesses of His love and grace, or else moving him out of her life while she remain faithful to God's word by faith! Our God is a miracle working God, but we far too often look for our own solutions! God bless |

704 | Do YOU belive in the Bible? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 87260
"Isn't LOVE a feeling? It's through my Love for God and those in need that I attempt to offer my "opinions" or "feelings" (or interpretation of the Bible) not based on a whim, but on my continuing walk with Jesus." Actually, no. Love is a decision. Feelings pass, fluctuate...The decision to love is not based on feelings. The mind, will and emotions (feelings) are carnal tools for functioning in this physical world. But as born again believers, we are to learn to live as spirits led by God's Holy Spirit in the kingdom of God which we were born into. God kind of love is not to be compared to carnal love and can only be comprehended through our spirit as our relationship with Him develops. Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. When we give opinions that God's words do not support, we are doing the hearer a great injustice. Nothing can provide God's perfect peace and joy but faith in Him. If they choose a lesser path, at least the seeds of truth have been planted. God bless |

705 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 87263
Shelly, Your responses to scripture as if they are totally irrevelant compels me to ask again... Were you saved (born again) by the hearing of scripture pertaining Jesus Christ? If so, how can you so easily dismiss the other words in the book? Have you been taught that Christianity is a 'religion'? If so, I would like to give you a couple of scriptures to ponder. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: John 1:1-4 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. My dear, if you have been born again, you have been supernaturally elevated to a higher calling, the calling to give your life up so Jesus live through you revealing the will of God to a lost and dying world..Your life is not your own, you were bought with a price.. Jesus' bloody death! 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 707 | Do you agree with my personal opinion? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 88151
Good question... Let me state ClEARLY before I begin that without the grace of God we would all be eternally lost and that adherance to the 'law' does not produce righteousness of the heart. All our righteousness is HIS righteousness provided through faith in the blood! But I personally am beginning to believe that this has been an excues for the body of Christ to brush aside the holy standards God expects His people to live by. Jesus said the He did not come to eliminate the law, but to fulfill the law. He came to make the way for us to abide by the will of God from the HEART. Marriage should be viewed by believers from God's perspective and the cultural interpretation should be 'put away'! Taking the following into consideration als remember Jesus' words to men. Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. The hardness of men's hearts brought about the 'puting away' of wives. Based on the Old Testament the one divorced was 'put away'. Leviticus 21:6-8 6 They shall be holy to their God and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings made by fire to the Lord, the bread of their God; therefore they shall be holy. 7 They shall not take a wife who is a harlot or polluted or profane or DIVORCED, for [the priest] is holy to his God. 8 You shall consecrate him therefore, for he offers the bread of your God; he shall be holy to you, for I the Lord Who sanctifies you am holy. KJV 6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy. 7 They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman PUT AWAY from her husband: for he is holy unto his God. 8 Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy. Matthew Henry Commentary Verse 6. Holy unto their God - Devoted to God's service, and always prepared for it, and therefore shall keep themselves from all defilements. The name of their God - Which they especially bear. The bread of their God - That is, the shew-bread: or rather, all the other offerings, besides burnt-offerings: which are called bread, because bread is commonly put for all food. Verse 7. Profane - Or defiled, or deflowered, though it were done secretly, or by force: because the priest must take care that all the members of his family be free not only from gross wickedness, but from all suspicions of evil. Verse 8. Thou - O Moses, and whosoever shall succeed in thy place, to whom it belongs to see my laws observed, shall take care that the priest be holy, and do not defile himself by any of these forbidden marriages. Put away or divorced mean the same it would seem. And a woman put away was not to be married to another. Now while the argument will surely be posed that this was written to the Livitical Priest...scripture tells us we as born again believers ARE kings and priests, sanctified by the the blood, set apart for service unto our Lord. Revelation 1 5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. This would be TRUTH that when we SEE we are then obligated to keep. I personally believe the truth of God's holiness and His expectaion of our consecration and fear has been watered down by mans rebellion and that the body of Christ is very weak due to this. The body of Christ needs to pray for a revelation of God's holiness and to be convicted to the depths of our soul to see the truth of God's expectations of us! I do not have time this morning to address the question as to wheterh men were still required to support their wives 'put away' within their camp or if the wives returned to their own families. Purhaps someone else can address this. God bless |

709 | marriage, divorce and remarriage 2nd. | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 91682
Hi Jackson, I have two observations for your comment, if you care to. 1st you said," Why do I think the "thou" is the divorced person, look at the rest of the vs, it talks about a virgin marrying. We all know that it's not a sin for a "First" time marriage" My question is that when you look at the last part of that vers it says that if you marry you will have difficulty in the flesh. My take on this concluding statement is that to 'remain unmarried' is to remain 'inactive'. While that could apply to a divorced man, it would more likely apply to a 'virgin male'. Which would take this thou back up to verse 7a 7 "Yet I wish that all men were (5) even as I myself am." Paul said this refering to the fact that he was a eunich. That would mean this verse (28) is simply saying marriage itself is not a sin. The reason this makes sense is that why would ANYONE question the marriage of a virgin as possibly being sin? 1 Corinthians 7:28 But if you do marry, you do not sin [in doing so], and if a virgin marries, she does not sin [in doing so]. Yet those who marry will have physical and earthly troubles, and I would like to spare you that. My second point is that the thou may actually be going back to verse 24 which states, "Brethren, each one is to remain with God in that condition in which he was called." To paraphrase a possibility...Each one should remain with God in the condition he is called, however, if one does marry, they have not sinned. God bless |

710 | communion: symbolic or something more? | 1 Cor 11:29 | gracefull | 85948
"Since the covenant that Jesus instituted is the Lords Supper, that same presence must be manifest in the elements of the covenant." When the 'covenant' is studied out, the elements of the Lord's Supper have to be symbolic. The New Covenant bought by Jesus shed blood is not 'symbolic'. The actual shedding of His blood is the initiation of the New Covenant. Had He not gone to the cross and shed His blood, there would be no covenant. When Jesus said as often as you do this, do in rememberance, means just that. The initiating of the covenant was done before the creation of the world. Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: And the first shed blood was in Genesis. Genesis 3:21 All the covenants of the Old Covenant were steps or the progression of God to the point of sending Jesus, the final sacrifice and the mediator of the New Covenant. Romans 8: 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood HE ENTEREND IN ONCE into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. I believe the New Covenant was initiated By God before the foundation of the world and became the active will upon the death of Jesus, when the blood was spilled. God bless |

711 | communion: symbolic or something more? | 1 Cor 11:29 | gracefull | 85963
tproffitt_79, I believe the answer is found in John chapter 6. Many were offended at Jesus' saying because they could not see the 'spiritual' message but could only hear with carnal ears. John 6: 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Notice in verse 57 Jesus uses His life as a comparison. Jesus said as the Fathe had sent Him and He 'lived' by His Father, so would live by Him. In John 15 Jesus teaches of abiding in the vine, this is the same principle. When we as believers begin to put our faith in anything but the literal blood of Jesus, we are placing our faith in sinking sand. Weak and beggerly elements, that have no spiritual power. 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 ( Complete Jewish Bible) Therefore, whoever eats the Lord's bread or drinks the Lord's cup in an unworthy manner will be guilty of desecrating the body and blood of the Lord! Listen with your spirit and not your head...and certainly not through 'religious ears'. A person who partakes of the communion with sin in their life (knowingly) is desecrating the Lords' body and blood spiritually. By doing this, a person lacks fear of God. The reason I say this is because they can repent and partake rightly, but choose not to. To partake of the bread is to be led by the Spirit, and to partake of the blood is to say I receive His grace through His blood and am clean. Not "will be clean" but "am clean". 1 Corinthians 11: 28 But a man must EXAMINE HIMSELF, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (DO NOT PARTAKE UNWORTHILY..OR WITH SIN IN YOUR LIFE) 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number (3) sleep. "imparts on us the blessings of the holy spirit and the forgiveness of sins. they draw heavily from 1 Cor. 11:29 where Paul warns about taking communion unworthily." The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and He is here today to first regenerate or rebirth our dead spirit, and then to abide IN US. He does not 'come' at communion. If you study the Holy Spirit (capitalized for the third person of the Godhead) you will find a lot of information that will correct this teaching. Secondly, the forgiveness of sins happens at the moment of true repentance, and according to these verses are to be done BEFORE taking communion which I believe is the message of verse 29. I pray something helped. God bless. |

712 | What are the "greater gifts?" | 1 Cor 12:31 | gracefull | 76036
Hi mommapbs, I don't see in chapter 13 where Paul states that love is a gift, but more the engine that drives the train. Since God is love, and the gifts are simply the Holy Spirit who works by love, without love the gifts not only WON'T work, they CAN'T work because they are manifestations of God Himself through yielded human vessels. God bless |

713 | Do we need to ask for "gifts" ? | 1 Cor 12:31 | gracefull | 79804
Hi Emmaus, "I think it tells us God give differing gifts to people, but we should strive, desire and pray for the greater gifts, the theological virtues, of faith, hope and charity, and the greatest of these is charity or love." Your statement that the greater gifts, the theological virtues, of faith, hope and charity, is not stated in either 1 Corinthians 12:31 1 Corinthians 13 (which is the description of Goly love) and is not verified by 1 Corinthians 14:1-2 Pursue love AND strive for the spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians chapters 11-14 is dealing with spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 Paul' teaching in Corinthians 13 on love is not that love should replace these gifts, but is necessary for their use. The 'greater gift' Paul states is prophesy. God bless. |

714 | Do we need to ask for "gifts" ? | 1 Cor 12:31 | gracefull | 79837
Hi Emmaus, "If there are prophecies they will be brought to nothing; if tongues they will cease; if knowledge it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophecy partially, but when perfection comes the partial will pass away.. Verse 12 " For now we see in a mirror. dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I wil know fully, even as I have been known. And now faith, hope and love. Pursue love AND (my emphasis)strive for the spiritual gifts.... Absolutely nowhere in these chapters does Paul even imply that this was a temporal command. If we make this assumption here, we can make it anywhere in scripture. My challenge to anyone reading this post is to ask yourself why you so readily accept the teaching of man regarding these scriptures and do not open your heart to the truth being stated? Man developed the commentaries and I submit that man chose to deny the power of God still working in the earth for greed and/or fear! The gifts were not to be FEARED because they are the demonstration of God's Holy Spirit to a lost and dying world that God LOVES them and that Jesus died to set them free from the powers of darkness...Religion says 'Jesus died to free you from the condemnation of sin, but you must endure the enemy until you get to heaven." Scripture says that Jesus defeated all the powers of darkness and translated us into HIS kingdom. Is Satan still in authority over the KINGDOM OF GOD? NO, Jesus is the Lord over His kingdom in which we are IN! Colossians 1 "He has rescued us from the power (authority, jurisdiction, power, right, delegated influence, Strong's 1849 ) of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of His Beloved Son.. Satan's authority in the life of the born again blood washed believer is GONE..So why does he still defeat so many of us? WE LET HIM by believing the lies taught by men! When that which is perfect has come is taught by ceasanist as meaning the compiling of the scriptures. But in context, and as emphasised by Paul, this can't be so. PERFECT has not come, and WE STILL SEE IN A MIRROR DIMLY... When Jesus returns, we will know all things and have perfect understanding. The gifts are for the building up of the body, and they are the work of the Holy Spirit through the working of the Holy Spirit in a yielded vessel. Yes, faith, hope and love are virtues and the Holy Spirit by the Word of God develops these in the believer, the charismata (gifts) are given for service to the body. The two are not in contrast to each other and they are not in competition....they are all part of God's covenant with His peole and should be sought, received with great joy to bring glory to God through Jesus Christ and demonstrate to a lost and dying world the provision of our awesome loving God. Jesus "led captivity captive and gave gifts to men.." Jesus took the AUTHORITY of Satan and and has given positions of authority to men and provided them with His NAME and His Spirit to go forth and preach that captivity has been broken and that they are redeemed from the law of sin and death! It always saddens me to hear the teachings of men that have been passed down and accepted that deny theworking of the Holy Spirit. The grief it causes is the same as if someone had medecine in their hands and someone was dying and the medecine would save them, but this person decided, no, the medecine will not work and refused to administer it. God has porvided the gifts of the Holy Spirit through the awesome sacrifice of Jesus and men reject it. All one has to do to know the truth is to go to God in prayer and sincerely desire to know the truth, and be willing to pay any price(religious afiliation, pride, family rejection) and God would fill them and gift them for service. Please do not mistake my PASSION for judgement or condemnation, quite the opposite, my passion if for truth to set the captive free..restore sight to the blind... God bless |

715 | Do we need to ask for "gifts" ? | 1 Cor 12:31 | gracefull | 79838
Love is eternal because God is love and god is eternal and we are in God so we are eternal in love. The gifts are for the work of God by the Holy Spirit through believers to provide the supernatural deliverance needed to overcome our enemy Satan and to demonstrate to the world the love of God. God's love provided the gifts and God's love must be present for the gifts to operate and they are temporal because whe Christ comes and Satan is bound, there wil be no need for them. There wil be no sickness, there will be no demons to discern, we will not need prophesy because God will speak to us directly...face to face... But as long as our enemy is loose, we need the supernatural working of the Holy spirit through the gifts and the Word of God to walk in the liberty He provided. He is a supernatural being and must be dealt with accordingly. God bless |

716 | The Word of God is Perfect. | 1 Cor 13:10 | gracefull | 92338
1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. So knowledge has passed away? But then 'face to face'....? You now see face to face? No, while I agree the Word is infallable, WE do not see perfectly. If this were fulfilled, we, the body of Christ would be operating in perfect harmony. You can't find two believers who agree perfectly...No my brother, that which is perfect has not come. We still see through a glass darkly. Most who use this verse to prove cessation will turn around and use the first part...see through a glass darkly...as if it is still true. Either we SEE FACE TO FACE or we still view through the human fallacy of flesh, and the carnal nature... that which is perfect will be us glorified in the presence of God. God bless |

Hello dwilde, You said, "The hand and the foot and the ear may have different points of view but they all agree that they are part of the same body." I agree, but it truly makes me sad to realize so many are missing out on this empowerment of the Holy Spirit, therefore not reaching their full potential of ministry. Each of us is a part of the body with our assigned 'gifts' or Charismata. 1 Corinthians 12 15 If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. 19 If they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now there are many members, but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; or again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." 22 On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; 23 and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable, 24 whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, 25 so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it. 28 And God HAS APPOINTED IN THE CHURCH, FIRST APOSTLES, SECOND PROPHETS, THIRD TEACHERS, THEN MIRACLES, THEN THE GIFTS OF HEALING, HELPS, ADMINISTRATIONS, VARIOUS KINDS OF TONGUES. 29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? 30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? 31 But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way. God bless |

Hello dwilde, "The only gift that we must focus all our attention on is LOVE. Out of that one gift flows faith and hope. If we do not truly understand the power of that one gift, then we have not gained the knowledge of Christ teachings." This is correct. The gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to manifest Himself for that very purpose. The gifts are given to demonstrate God's love through the supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:4 Now there are (10) varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit FOR THE COMMON GOOD. I believe the body of Christ is missing out on the manifestations of the Holy Spirit through the gifts which are a portion of the New Covenant Jesus provided through His shed blood. Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: We are all still growing... God bless |

Hi John, You said, "In my 10 years as a member of a pentacostal church, NOT ONCE did I hear a person speak in german or chinese or swahili. Their words were ALWAYS in (what was called) a heavenly or angelic language." On the day of Pentecost the people heard the disciples speaking their languages...this is true. But with the gift of tongues where there is the necessity of an 'interpretor' not a translator..why do you believe the tongues must be a language someone in the congregation understands? If that were the case, why would there need to be an interpretor? God bless |

720 | Praying in Tongues? | 1 Cor 14:1 | gracefull | 76805
Hi Searcher "Tongues is a known language to someone in the audience." I do not believe this is accurate because scripture says that to one is given the interpretation. As a language someone knows, they would be translating and would not need to be gifted to do so. On Pentecost the tongues that were spoken were understood by the various people, these were indeed translated. Each heard in His own language. It appears that tongues can be the 1.manifestation of gifting someone to speak a language they have not learned for someone who does understand the language as on Pentecost. Acts 2 2. the manifestation of gifting to speak a language not learned and not understood by anyone, thus needing someone with the gift of interpretation.1 Corinthians 12:10 3. Or the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in private prayer and worship whereas Paul said for him who prays in a unknown tongue to also pray for the interpretation. 1 Corinthians 14:24 As a lesser gift could not mean less in importance to the body, because evry part supplies an important part. But less in the ministry because prophecy is more prevalent to growth. 1 Corinthians 12:14-24 My thoughts God bless |
