21 | Why are Christians right? for sure? | Gen 1:1 | cwade | 66053
Christians are not always right. We are human so we are not perfect. (Just look at the differences of opinion on this website). No human can ever be "right" about EVERYTHING whether they are a Christian or not. Only God is "right" ALL of the time. I believe in God, and that he created the universe. I believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. Everything in the Bible is "right" because it was ordained by God. Christians are wrong quite often, but God never is.
22 | offspring of Adam and Eve | Gen 5:4 | cwade | 66944
Freebyrd, (from the Lynard Skynard song?) Welcome. As Johnny said in his post to you: Their wives were their sisters. Some people think this was not so, because of this verse forbidding incest: Leviticus 18:9 "The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover." But this commandment was given much later (after the flood). In Adam and Eve's day the bloodline of the human race was much more pure and marrying one's sister did not produce offspring with the kinds of defects that would cause today. God allowed this back then so that mankind could obey His command to "be fruitful and multiply." |

23 | "God said"? ...The VERBAL voice of God? | Ex 20:19 | cwade | 66767
"God said"? The VERBAL voice of God? When we read the phrase "God said" Did it always mean God spoke verbally? Let me clarify my question: I know that during the Patriarcal Age there were occasions where God spoke to Abraham, Moses, Job, etc, verbally. In the Age of the Prophets, when he had a conversation with one of the prophets was He speaking verbally, or placing the information "in their minds"? I know of instances in the New Testament when the verbal voice of God was heard. Does the Bible preclude the possiblility of someone actually hearing (with their ears) the VERBAL voice of God today?
24 | "God said"? ...The VERBAL voice of God? | Ex 20:19 | cwade | 66793
Yes, it is helpful. Thank You! I asked the question because a man claimed in his testimony recently that he heard the (verbal) voice of God inside his jail cell saying: "You will go home tomorrow". I wondered if that was Biblically possible. In Christ! cwade
25 | "God said"? ...The VERBAL voice of God? | Ex 20:19 | cwade | 66797
Gracefull, Yes he was indeed "miraculously" released from prison the next day. He describes the incident at a "road to Damascus" experience.

I neither want nor need anything more than God's Word my Brother. From time to time I do benefit from the teaching of my Spiritual Elders so I thank God for this forum. I too am suspicious of anyone who says they heard God's verbal voice. That is why I posted the question. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Your reply has been very helpful! I am curious however about the last 2 verses you posted. Do you feel that someone who claims to have heard God's verbal voice may actually be hearing the voice of a demon? 27 | Why does God deliver SOME from sin? | Ex 34:7 | cwade | 66071
I work with drug addicts and alcoholics. I have known many who accepted Christ and were immediately delivered from the DESIRE for drugs and alcohol (cured of their addictions). But I have known just as many who accepted Christ and WERE NOT delivered from that desire to sin. Why does God "cure" some and not others? Is it a question of submission?

29 | Meanings of names in Ruth | Ruth 1:1 | cwade | 66729
This is from a sermon by Dr. Chet Haney. I hope it helps: Ruth 1:1…And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. So here you have the setting for the book of Ruth. The time is a time of judgment where God sees the good and the bad and the secrets. During this time, a hunger rose and a man from Bethlehem went to Moab where there was bread and took his two sons and his wife with him. Now what is the meaning of Bethlehem? It is where Christ was born of course, but interestingly the name Bethlehem means "house of bread." So this man got up from the house of bread and left because there was no bread there in the days when people were being judged. He took his wife and his two sons. Vs. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. The names in the book of Ruth like names generally throughout the Old Testament have prophetic meaning. Elimelech means, "God is my King." And Namoi means, "kindness, splendor and grace" (also refers to the sensual pleasure of physical intimacy in marriage). So "God is my king" married "Kindness, Splendor and grace." And where did they live? In the "house of bread" – Bethlehem. So God is my King, who lived in House of Bread, married Kindness, Splendor and grace, and bore two sons. What were there names? The first who would become the husband of Ruth was named Malhon. That is kind of a strange thing to name your son because that word means "Sickness." His brother Chilion, had an interesting name as well, meaning "Grieving yourself away, or destruction" So during the days of God’s chastening and supervision, there was a famine in the land and from the town of house of bread, God is my king married the splendor of grace, and they had two sons, sickness and grieving destruction." They all moved away from the house of bread because there was no bread and they moved to Moab in order to find something to eat. But they did not just go there to eat. They went there to stay. While they were in Moab, a terrible thing happened for Naomi. Her husband died. Vs. 3 Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons. Personally I can’t imagine what it would feel like to travel off somewhere with your spouse and children and then be left there alone after the death of your mate. That must have been a terribly cruel and lonely feeling for Naomi. Some people in our church know what it’s like to lose a mate. Personally, I thank God that I do not. God is my King died, and the splendor of Grace was left with sickness and grieving destruction. Vs. 4 Now they took wives of the women of Moab: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And they dwelt there about ten years. Hebrews were forbidden to take foreign wives for themselves, but Sickness and Grieving away decided to get themselves wives from the Moabite women. Orpah, which means "stiff-necked" became the wife of destruction, and sickness married "Ruth" a "female friend." And so they lived there for about ten years. |

31 | What is "spiritual pride"? | Prov 16:18 | cwade | 68983
What is spiritual pride? Is it a sin to be proud of one's knowledge of the Bible?
32 | What is "spiritual pride"? | Prov 16:18 | cwade | 68989
Thank you Steve. I have great fear of falling prey to this secret sin. God forbid that I ever get to a point where I might find fault with other saints. I pray that I never speak of my brothers in harsh or severe language. If only I could treat my brothers with as much gentleness as Christ has treated me. I praise Him for bearing with my unteachableness and stupidity! I desire to "defend the faith" but I pray that I always be able to do so with "gentleness and reverence". God help me to never command or warn others with authority, but to entreat and beseech in love. I repent of the sin of taking offense at opposition and injuries I have perceived, and pray that I might someday be able to act as our Lord did when he was reviled. I pray I never speak of others sins with contempt, but only with grief or pity. Lord, help me to never minister in a harsh spirit! In Christ, cwade |

33 | Was Jesus physical body deformed? | Is 53:3 | cwade | 66033
Was Jesus ugly or deformed in some way in physical appearance? Could this be why Mary and the disciples did not recognize him after the ressurection? Was his ressurected/perfected body so much different than his physical body?
34 | Was Jesus physical body deformed? | Is 53:3 | cwade | 66038
Thank you brother Searcher. How do you interpret Isaiah 53:3? What does it mean that He was "a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief... like one from whom men hide their face"? I once read that the story of Quasimoto was really a parody of Jesus. The author believed Jesus' physical body was deformed in some way (possibly a hump back etc...) Do you know of any Scripture verse that would deny this theory?
35 | Does Is:53:3,4 mean He sufferd deformity | Is 53:3 | cwade | 66042
Thank you and God bless you. I appreciate your well thought out answer. What do you think of Isaiah 53:3,4? Is it at all possible in light of these verses that Jesus' physical body did suffer some deformity?
36 | Was Jesus physical body deformed? | Is 53:3 | cwade | 66044
Thank you brother Robert. I thank God for your spiritual maturity. I know my question seems irrelevant to the final outcome (ressurection). But I know it would be an encouragement to people who suffer from birth defects, etc. if our Lord also suffered the same kind of affliction(s)while He was here in His spiritual body. But, if that was the case, it probably would have been addressed more directly in Scripture. Thanks again and God Bless You.
37 | summarize chapter 4 of Lamentations | Lamentations | cwade | 66320
In Chapter 4 of Lamentations: The prophet laments the injuries and indignities done to those to whom respect used to be shown, ver. 1, 2. II. He laments the direful effects of the famine to which they were reduced by the siege, ver. 3-10. III. He laments the taking and sacking of Jerusalem and its amazing desolations, ver. 11, 12. IV. He acknowledges that the sins of their leaders were the cause of all these calamities, ver. 13-16. V. He gives up all as doomed to utter ruin, for their enemies were every way too hard for them, ver. 17-20. VI. He foretells the destruction of the Edomites who triumphed in Jerusalem's fall, ver. 21. VII. He foretels the return of the captivity of Zion at last, ver. 22.
38 | How were you drawn to Christ? | Hos 11:4 | cwade | 66420
I have been contemplating recently the difference between "Love Evangelism" and "Fear Evangelism". Would a young person who is in a state of rebellion to everyone and everything respond better to an attempt to point out their sin and need of repentance, or to an attempt to show them how much God loves them? Even the rebellious youth, when they know they are loved and when they begin to love in return, will change their ways because of that love. To answer your question: I fear God, but I was converted when I realized how much He loved me, not because I feared going to Hell. I know each situation is different; and it is God who draws us to Him (not people). But I wish more Christians would (at least consider) witnessing through expressing love once in a while and not always by condemming sin. (But before I get yelled at let me say I know how important it is to point out sin). |

39 | Yeshua, [which means 'ADONAI saves,'] | Matt 1:21 | cwade | 86601
Radioman, in the link I posted the author spells the Hebrew name for Jesus as Yahshua, using the same prefix (YAH) as in Yahweh. I have also seen in spelled Yeshua. What is the reason for this difference in spelling?
40 | Do demons still exist? | Matt 8:16 | cwade | 72480
Hank, I was going to post this question but did a search first and saw that you posted it in May of 2001. I read the (short) thread including the verses Searcher cited, but didn't think the answer you were looking for was given. You said (in the thread) the answer lies in the defining of demons. I can't find that. Satisfy my curiosity please! P.S. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! cwade |
