1221 | What does baptism consist? | 1 John 5:6 | charis | 23336
Dear Nolan, Greetings my friend, in Jesus' name! If I may, I would like to point out that we cannot say that any book of the Bible was written specifically for the benefit of one particular audience, unless we say it was written for God's people. For us. Even James. As to 'salvation Scriptures do not mention water baptism,' you may be correct in a specific sense, but the correlation between the *saved* and water baptism is abundant! The *saved* got baptised because it is God's will. You are right that it is not a legal requirement, but strongly (Sripturally) recommended by God and His apostles. I don't know of any law that states you must not jump from an airplane without a parachute. But it is strongly recommended by physics, common sense and a desire to live! :-) I do not believe that water baptism is a prerequisite for entry into God's favor, but on the other hand I believe we do injustice to the Word of God to consider water baptism 'optional' or 'inconsequential.' It is not a frill or token. Are we perfect upon knowing/ being known by Christ? Or, is there a subsequent walk, a growth, a washing, a purifying, a purging, a cleansing, a learning, a following, a perfecting in the Holy Spirit that brings us to the final work of sanctification, the resurrection of the dead unto eternal life? Is this walk our salvation? No! Is this walk inconsequential? No! My friend, please note that my viewpoint is not theory or philosophy, but practical experience with real people. Dealing strictly with hypotheticals, perfection IS acheived BY GOD in His unlimited timeframe. In our limited existence, I have yet to meet any individual that meets the 'description' of a perfected, saved soul. :-) Peace to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

1222 | What does baptism consist? | 1 John 5:6 | charis | 23382
Dear Nolan, Blessings in the name of Jesus! I agree with you when you agree with me that we agree on many things, disagree on a few things and are not totally in agreement on analogies. Don't you agree? (your turn!) :-) I think I agree that the parachute analogy is not perfect (a negative result rather than a positive one!), but you DO agree that jumping out of airplanes without parachutes, while not strictly forbidden, is probably not a good idea, right? Josh, jest, joke! :-) If we all agreed on every point, it would be a sure sign that that Lord has already returned! In Christ Jesus, charis |

1223 | Whatever we want? | 1 John 5:15 | charis | 7041
Dear saints in the Lord, Does this verse mean that God will give us whatever we want? Is this the 'prosperity Gospel?' In Jesus' name, charis |

1224 | Enoch's prophesy in OT? | Jude 1:14 | charis | 1260
Dear bcbloyd, 'The Book of Enoch' is not included in "The New English Bible, with the Apocrypha" and though I do not own a "Catholic Bible, with Apocrypha" I do not think it is there, either. Look at Amazon.com, there were a few good reviews that might help you. One reviewer says that Jude is using a bit of sarcasm there. Blessings in Christ Jesus.
1225 | How then should we live? | Jude 1:21 | charis | 5984
Saints, Are we not to "wait anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life."? I see so much focus on identifying people, places and situations in the end time through prophecy. Like so many of the messianic prophesies, we don't know! We will know when it happens, and probably not before. Even if we know bits and pieces beforehand, we are not capable of knowing the whole picture, as it has been hidden from us, and will remain hidden from us until God reveals it, at that time. The majority of this end time speculation is fruitless and meaningless, and only divides us, steering us away from serving the Lord in fellowship now. Who's at war with whom? Where will Jesus 'touch down?' When and where will the next earthquake hit? What are fingers, toes, feathers, horns, heads, tails, ears, noses, and elbows? None of the answers to these questions changes how we should live one whit. Because how we should live is in the love of God, waiting anxiously (not in anxiety or division) for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. How then should we live? In Jesus' name, charis |

1226 | How then should we live? | Jude 1:21 | charis | 6073
Dear disciple, Great answer! Blessings to you and welcome to the forum. I agree very much about the imperative of love. Thank you for an uplifting commentary on this Scripture. In Christ Jesus, charis |

1227 | Are you kidding? | Revelation | charis | 1137
Elijah, are you kidding? No one has ever done it, but maybe I can help you? I hope you are saying that we can discuss it here and maybe clarify some specific areas through this forum. Yes there are lots of commentaries, but the best is the Bible. Take your time. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. A study Bible will give you a good start. Click one of the tabs at the top of this page. My own advice: if someone professes to 'understand' the Book of Revelation, watch out! Ask if they are affiliated with the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Seventh Day Adventists, the Unification Church (Moonies),or any other cult. Look at their eyes when they answer! May the Lord lead your path, and guard your soul in Him. In Christ Jesus.
1228 | WHY DOSE IT HAVE TO BE MOSSES AND ELIJAH | Revelation | charis | 1138
Dear Dan, Please onlock the Caps key. All capitals is hard to read! My question: Have you been reading, by any chance, the 'Left Behind' series? Blessings in Jesus' name!
1229 | Are you kidding? | Revelation | charis | 1190
Thank you, Cathy. I will look into it. Where I am there are no Christian bookstores 'down the street.' (Frankly, I don't know if I want that 'title' sitting on the shelf where everyone can see, though ;-) In Jesus' name!
1230 | Only 144,000 virgins in heaven? | Revelation | charis | 1252
Dear HeirofGod, What did you mean about 'virgins?' As far as I know, some sects of the Mormons also use this number, as well as the Unification Church (the Moonies). It seems that almost all cults that 'use' the Bible for their own purposes point to this number in order to attempt to 'legitimatize' their religion. In other words, theirs is the 'true' faith, and the rest of Christians are deceived or 'faith-challenged.' I find it interesting to note that some of these cults have more than 144k members (even discounting their 'inflation' of the numbers), which causes me to wonder how they account for this to their own people. Are they trampling one another for a 'reservation?' ;-) It seems to me that even Bible-believing Christians can interpret this number to be a 'saved-unsaved' or 'saved-more saved' competition. I do not know exactly what this number depicts, but I do know that is dangerous to focus too much attention on it. In Jesus. |

1231 | Explanation acceptable? | Revelation | charis | 1353
So, HeirofGod, was my (possible) explanation of how cults view the 144k acceptable? Your use of 'virgins' was number 4 in my Websters, so correct, but a bit unorthodox :-) I also understand a bit about these people, but certainly not ALL. Blessings in Christ Jesus.
1232 | Accuracy not a requirement...? | Revelation | charis | 1468
Dear SSprln, I couldn't help but jump in. I don't think that anyone is implying that the Doctor is not a man of God or inaccurate. But it is true that his books tilt toward sensationalism. He, like many modern ministers, uses emotions to get your attention. This is entertainment. One thing though, adding little titles after your name is not proof of godliness or truth. Paul probably had more 'credits' than that, and he 'counted all as loss.' Peter probably had none, but he knew Jesus. Frankly, I would count personal service to the saints in a local church as of more value in God's sight than a thousand doctorates or books or shows. Comments? Blessings in Christ Jesus. |

1234 | how do I read the full answers? | Revelation | charis | 7431
Dear KOBUS, Greetings and welcome to the Forum! There are several ways to browse this forum interface. First, if you scroll down to the bottom of a page, you will see a 'tree' representation of the 'thread' or topic. The tree is a bit hard to grasp at first, but if you follow the lines you will see how the connect. Also, pay attention to the date-time stamp on the right. If you click on the blue 'opening phrase' of the note, question or answer, it will be displayed in it's entirety. Click on the name of the poster (screen name), and you will (someimes) find out more about him-her. The other major tool is the 'Search' button at the top left. Click on this and you can easily find postings by date, Bible reference, screen name, or a specific word or words. Blessings upon you, and praying that this forum is a help to your walk in Christ. If you have any other questions, just post anywhere, and someone will find it and help. In Jesus' name, charis |

1235 | Only 144,000 virgins in heaven? | Revelation | charis | 18576
Dear eschaton, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Fit or not, your answer was very good! I find it interesting to note that there are more than 144,000 Mormons! Also, (sorry) but a standard floppy disk has a capacity of 1.44MB or a (PC) formatted 1,457,664 bytes. FYI :-) Peace and goodness to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

1236 | What's going on? | Revelation | charis | 18577
Dear eschaton, Greetings and love to you in Jesus' name! I am not a scholar, but a student of the Word. I am now a lay-minister in Japan, but have had a 'colorful' past like yourself. If the Lord Jesus can apprehend one such as me, I am sure that He has you in mind, too! What is going on? Life as usual in a perverse generation. Is there any specific relationship with the Revelation of Jesus Christ to John? No, probably not one we will know until it is history. The reason is that we are unable, even forbidden to know the exact day of His glorious return. So many eschatological arguments and meaningless words of absolute conviction. For those in Christ Jesus, we are His. Frankly, my friend, I wonder how much 'conversion' you need! It seems that you have more faith in Jesus Christ than many 'religious' people I know. I pray that you will put away all the 'noise and trash' that confuse you, and focus yourself on that which you (already seem to) know to be truth. Eschaton, return to Jesus, and put away your 'mind temptations.' I say this as one who has 'been there, and done that.' :-) The forum works fine for me, but you can contact me through the address in my personal profile. Blessings and peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

1237 | Are all at the white throne judg. lost? | Revelation | charis | 35994
Dear CDBJ, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I would have to agree with you. I can see no reason for us to be judged again. We have been justified, counted as righteous, by faith. "For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire." 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 NASB. We shall meet the Lord for His judgement of our walk *in Christ.* The judgement as to whether we are in Christ or not has already been made! In Christ Jesus, Praise God! charis |

1238 | Are all at the white throne judg. lost? | Revelation | charis | 36014
Dear CDBJ, Greetings in Jesus' name! One more: "He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers." Deuteronomy 6:23 NASB. Friend, I have been to the woodshed, too! He chastens us because He loves us, and desires that we enter into the land of blessing that He has prepared. "Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, And whom You teach out of Your law;" Psalm 94:12 NASB. Some may say that Egypt represents hell (enslavement, captivity) and the Promised Land represents heaven. But what of the wilderness? Are all but two in hell? Only if we include Moses for his transgression of not circumcising Israel and striking the rock. I think that our tutor unto Christ, the Old Testament, teaches that unmerited grace abounded then as now. As far as I can see, there is no record of anyone returning to Egypt. (Those that tried didn't get far! :-) Indeed the context of the above verse from Deuteronomy speaks of diligence. But see that the diligence is to enter in, while God brought them out. What we must decide is whether the 'wilderness' is still hell, or not. If it is, then Moses is in hell. If it isn't, then maybe there is more hope that some have! (if I may say it, those that speak of 'losing' salvation seem to have plenty of hope for THEMSELVES, but not as much for OTHERS. :-)) Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

1239 | Empty Justification? | Revelation | charis | 36047
Dear Jesusman, Greetings to you in Jesus' name! I am a bit confused by this post. Are you saying that the work on the Cross is but general payment for sin, but there is no specific (personal) payment *applied* or *activated* until this final judgement? So where is justification? Would this mean that we are 'counted as righteous' as only possible or potential? With all due respect, this sounds suspiciously similar to the 'Bean-Counter in Heaven' God that was proposed to me when I first got saved. A brother said something to the effect that our salvation experience was nothing but a 'trial offer' through which we might make it to the 'finals' but only a few made to the 'podium.' Sounds like the Olympics! :-) You cited several Biblical 'judgements' in your post. Are these also 'preliminaries?' Are the saints of the Old Testament and New Testament still not assured of their salvation? Or do we have a 'voucher' that assures us that we WILL pass the test, but it is just not yet 'finalized.' (quote from D.D.Eisenhower, "My conclusion is not yet finalized." This statement was considered to be governmental gobbledegook) I look forward to your answer. Peace in Christ Jesus, charis |

1240 | REV.2AND 3 URGENT RESPONSE PLEASE | Revelation | charis | 39632
Dear Denise, Greetings in the name of Jesus! If I may comment: What makes you so certain that the Spirit is leading you to build a bigger church? Is it not just as effective (more effective?) to plant several small (independent, local) churches in your neighborhood? Do you find anywhere in the Bible that speaks of building large churches, or hints that large congregations are God's will? It seems to me that it takes a great deal more faith to send men out than to gather everyone's money and build a citadel. Please, which is the example in the Bible? In Christ Jesus, charis |
