381 | Praise in worship: emotion that counts? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 192230
My church is a liturgy and ritual one. We hold high value of sound doctrines of orthodoxy. Some years ago, in face of the growth and the influence of the contemporary music on the Sunday service which has been espoused by most young christians, our chuch has made a slight adjustment for fitting the youngsters' need, where 2 Sunday services were arranged. The late morning section remains unchanged with choir serving the music part. An additional early morning section was set up with the contemporary music praise group (a more inter-active way) in place of the choir. The rest of the programmes remain the same. Recently, the leader of the praise group expressed her idea to our elder that she hoped the praise group could take an additional part after the sermon and in doing so, the congregation's emotion could be uplifted to the peak. After hearing that, the elder talked to me about his concern that the leader could have missed the focus. A meeting has been arranged next week for discussing the issue in details with the leader. I was asked (by the elder) to prepare for the meeting that I can step in when there need a proper guidance. I am reading some books. However, I would also like to receive any pertinent thoughts on the issue. Thank you in advance for your input. Shalom Azure |

382 | how tall are angels | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 192240
Dear ernesto, My answer in short: As far as I know, there is no such scripture adressing the height of angels. Angels are messengers of God. Their powers are given by God. So, how powerful they are all depends on God's will. Read also Exodus, Revelation. Hope this hepls. Shalom Azure |

385 | Grace giving or tithing? | Bible general Archive 3 | azurelaw | 192696
Dear Grace, Welcome to the forum. Since you are a new comer and might not be familiar with how the feature of the forum works, I would recommend you to consider the below in search of an answer for most of your questions: 1/ If you have a question concerning a specific verse (e.g. Genesis 1:1), you can type that verse in the "Question/Notes on Verse" (on the tope of the screen) then click "Go". It will show you all the past discussed threads (if available) at the bottom of the page. 2/ If you have a topical question, type the keyword you have in mind in the "word search" box at your right hand corner. It will show all the posts containing the searched words. Then you need to find the relevant topic discussed in the past. Though you might (sometimes) find it a tedious task in going through so many posts for getting an answer, I can tell you from my experience that you will learn a lot better and some posts or dicussions are interesting (or humurous, you will enjoy a lot). I've always come across with many wonderful and witty posts apart from my search of an answer to my original question. You will also find very helpful website recommended by other users in their posts and many of the websites are helpful for our bible study as well. In case you could not find anything relevant to you question, of course you need to ask. Many of the brothers and sisters are willing to help. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |

391 | What does Bible teach on election? | Bible general Archive 1 | azurelaw | 197098
Dear Michael, Welcome to the forum. Very well stated. Thank you for the sharing. Since you are new to the forum, let me try to navigate you to the functions of it if you don't mind. Click on the title line and scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find past posts from various users attached to the thread. On the right hand side, you will see date of the posts and name of the posters. So, in this case you are responding to a post date back to 2001 and the poster is no longer active since 2003. How do you get to know if the poster active or not? Just click on the name then a box shows the registration date and the date of the last post the user made. Therefore in your case, I doubt you would get a reply from the user. I look forward to seeing more of your sharing on the forum. Shalom Azure |

393 | Killing of Joab and Adonijah | OT general | azurelaw | 175928
1 King 2 : 1 to 35 1/ Why didn't David kill Joab himself but left it to the hands of Solomon instead? 2/ For what reason did Solomon kill Adonijah? (He had promised that he would not kill him unless evil was found in him - 1King 1:52). Thanks for answering in advance. Azure |

394 | Killing of Joab and Adonijah | OT general | azurelaw | 175997
Dear Doc, Thanks for your answer. However, if I understand your answer correctly, I would need further clarification to my doubts: 1/ In the scripture, David said to Solomon "Deal with him according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace." (1 King 2:6, NIV version). On 1 King 2:29 ".... Solomon ordered Benaiah son of Jehoiada, 'Go, strike him down!'" From these two scriptures, I can only see that both David and Solomon decided to kill Joab. Is there anything between the lines as you said "intended to try him his crimes" which I had missed? 2/ I understand Solomon was not trying to kill Adonijah but showed his mercy to him by a covenant as you have mentioned. Do you mean that his (Adonijah's) request of marrying Abishag is a kind of evil which caused a breach of the covenant? However, there is no mention that Abishag was a concubine of David, but a virgin serving David only and David did not "sleep" with her neither. Anyway, I would say that Adonijah was a foolish and greedy man indeed. In Christ. Azure |

397 | Where does Cain's wife come from? | OT general | azurelaw | 195691
nightmare, I agree with sister Cheri. You cannot just take the scripture out of its context. Let the scripture explain for itself. Most of the time, you have to also make comparison between chapters. I don't see the reason why we cannot continue to chapter 4 without fully understanding chapter 3. You have to understand that the division of chapters was not in the original writing. You are only partially right that sin in the garden was not the matter of the fruit (again, you are making a mistake - it has never ever mentioned it an apple), the sin was their disobedient to God's command (see Gen 3:17 - "...because you have listened to the voice of your wife.."). Your presumption (or even twisting the scripture) that Eve was sexually seduced by satan is totally out of context. People believe Cain is the son of Adam because IT IS CLEARLY WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE (Gen 4:1). Please stop making any speculations and fancying things for your own answer. By the way, you don't have a strong biblical support to your such notion. Please re-read the terms of use: You must abide by the following rules in connection with your use of the Forums: * Postings must be Biblically based and not opposing the Bible's sole authority (sola Scriptura), Christianity, or the deity of Jesus Christ. 2 Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 400 | This is a prophecy right?? | OT general | azurelaw | 204876
Dear Light, Please provide name of the book, chapter and verse that you are referring to. Don't take a single verse out of context and read too much into it and fancy for personal application. It is important to get proper understanding of the scriptures base on the context of the chapter, the book, other relevant books, and then the whole bible. Shalom Azure |
