1843 | I want to know if I have to give my thit | 2 Cor 9:7 | azurelaw | 189106
Dear Marbella, Congratulations and welcome to the family of God. Don't worry too much about your English. I am not a native English speaking person for I am a Chinese living in Hong Kong. Brothers and sisters here at the forum are kind, patient and loving to help you study the bible as what they have done to me. Concerning your questions, please see the below scriptures I would like to offer: 2 Cor 9:7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Mark 12:41 And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. Mark 12:42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Mark 12:43 Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; Mark 12:44 for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on." Keep on studying His Word. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |

1844 | Is tithing a command for chriatians? | 2 Cor 9:7 | azurelaw | 214875
Dear Pastor Beja, You said: He points out that the law is there to restrain the evil of evil doers, not the good of those who do good. Allow me to sum up what I believe him to be thinking here (but do read the passage). The idea is this, if we are truely following the spirit, and following Christ's leading we will be so far from the idea of stealing that the rule is pointless to us. We will be so far from the idea of murdering that the rule will have no bearing on us. It would be like telling somebody headed to Mexico that they can not go into Canada. The law has no application on one that is constantly asking "How may I most glorify Christ and serve others today?" So the law wholely remains upon us that stealing is wrong, that coveting is wrong, that lying is wrong, that murder is wrong, and we shall not do these things, no will it ever be abolished (as Christ said), it will never be permisable to us. Righteousness did not stope being righteousness when you and I were saved. But in Paul's eyes, "what does that have to do with you and me?" We are bound to Righteousness and following Christ, a restriction holding back the evil of an evil doer is not our concern, following Christ is. I have to agree with you with a big amen! I like the analogy you used :-) I remember when I was a young christian, the moral law being taught so much on the pulpit had either been a burden or a stumbling block of self-righteousness to me that proved I did not understand the Gospel and Its Power. Sadly that nowadays, still, on the pulpit, the Gospel is rarely taught in depth (I think not only the unbelievers need to hear the Gospel, believers have to always hear and meditate the Gospel -- 1 Cor 15:1-2) but being replaced by the repetition of moral teachings. This is one of my favourite quotes which I would like to share with you: "Keep your heart, O believer, much beneath the cross, your conscience in frequent and close contact with the blood, and the slightest touch of sin will make you restless and unhappy until you have confessed, and God has forgiven. This is the secret -- which, alas! few see, or care to know -- of preserving the garments white amid pollution, the mind serene amid turmoil, the heart happy amid sorrow, the life radiant and transparent as the sun, and the spirit, temper, and carriage Christ-loving, and Christ-like. Oh the wonders of the precious blood of Christ! Who can exalt it too highly, adore it too profoundly, love, magnify, and honor it too deeply and exclusively? Will it not constitute the theme of our study, the burden of our song, and the source of our bliss as ages roll on, and never cease to roll? Beloved, the surprise then will be, that here below we should have prized it so little, traveled to it so infrequently, and glorified it so imperfectly, and have regarded it with an affection so fickle and so cold!" --Octavius Winslow Shalom Azure |

Dear yearegods, Please make first letter capital for "God" to show our respect. He is not one of the gods, He is the only one God. In your user name, are you implying that you believe in gods? It should be useful for you to study more about the attribute of God; thus, I commend you to the link : monergism.com Shalom Azure |

1849 | 2COR 12:3 AND ACTS 8:39 RELATED? | 2 Cor 12:2 | azurelaw | 232011
Dear trujc003, Paul was talking about his own experience in a third person. Read the whole chapter and you will find that Paul humbled himself and refrained from boasting such a special revelation. Your guess on Philip is unlikely possible for Philip baptized the Eunoc around 34A.D. and Paul wrote 1 Corinthians around 55A.D. It is more than 20 years time lap in between(not 14 years). 1852 | Why was the thorn given | 2 Cor 12:7 | azurelaw | 208859
Dear dispen4ever, I found the below post (134947) provided by our old timer Kalos is helpful for understanding the thron given to Paul. ***** 'because of the abundance of the revelations. Therefore, that I might not become too elated, [3]a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel (messenger, Greek: angelos, Strong's #32) of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.' 2 Cor 12:7 (New American Bible) (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/2corinthians/2corinthians12.htm) Footnote 3. '[7] That I might not become too elated: God assures that there is a negative component to his experience, so that he cannot lose proper perspective; cf 2 Cor 1:9; 4:7-11. 'A thorn in the flesh: variously interpreted as a sickness or physical disability, a temptation, or a handicap connected with his apostolic activity. But since Hebrew "thorn in the flesh," like English "thorn in my side," refers to persons (cf Numbers 33:55; Ezekiel 28:24), Paul may be referring to some especially persistent and obnoxious opponent. The language of 2 Cor 12:7-8 permits this interpretation. 'If this is correct, the frequent appearance of singular pronouns in depicting the opposition may not be merely a stylistic variation; the singular may be provoked and accompanied by the image of one individual in whom criticism of Paul's preaching, way of life, and apostolic consciousness is concentrated, and who embodies all the qualities Paul attributes to the group. 'An angel of Satan: a personal messenger from Satan; cf the satanic language already applied to the opponents in 2 Cor 11:3, 13-15, 20.' ***** Shalom Azure |

1853 | forgiveness | 2 Cor 13:5 | azurelaw | 189317
Dear NightJay, Brother lionheart has given you very good answers. May I add a little bit of my thought. I had watched a movie few months ago where the main character was so overwhelmed with his vengeance that he was on his way to kill his enemy. His girl friend asked him to stop, but he could not. So the lady decided to leave him on the scene even the man begged her to stay by saying "I love you". However, the lady replied, "What is left with you to love?" I don't mean that you are outraged with vengeance and I do believe you are ready to forgive, I just want to borrow the concept that "Be our heart filled with bitterness, what is it left with to love?" I think, in order to forgive others, we have to first forgive ourselves that leaving no bitterness in us. Just see how Jesus forgives us so willingly and dearly. I will pray for you, dear brother. I know it hurts (my experience did tell me). Shalom Azure |

1860 | background on Galatias | Galatians | azurelaw | 207779
Dear stamuel, Welcome to the forum. The old Saints speak much much better than we do. Here is a very brief introduction on Galatians by Matthew Henry. "The churches in Galatia were formed partly of converted Jews, and partly of Gentile converts, as was generally the case. St. Paul asserts his apostolic character and the doctrines he taught, that he might confirm the Galatian churches in the faith of Christ, especially with respect to the important point of justification by faith alone. Thus the subject is mainly the same as that which is discussed in the epistle to the Romans, that is, justification by faith alone. In this epistle, however, attention is particularly directed to the point, that men are justified by faith without the works of the law of Moses. Of the importance of the doctrines prominently set forth in this epistle, Luther thus speaks: "We have to fear as the greatest and nearest danger, lest Satan take from us this doctrine of faith, and bring into the church again the doctrine of works and of men's traditions. Wherefore it is very necessary that this doctrine be kept in continual practice and public exercise, both of reading and hearing. If this doctrine be lost, then is also the doctrine of truth, life and salvation, lost and gone."
