Dear Jeff, Sometimes I would hope that the responses (though years apart from their posts) would remind them about the forum and most importantly about STUDYING THE BIBLE :-) What a joy it would be if any of them (the inactive old users) come back to break the bread with us and demonstrate their spiritual growth :-) Shalom Azure |

1763 | ARE WE MARIED | 1 Cor 7:1 | azurelaw | 180166
Dear Jeff, I do respond to your post :). You say: ... our faithful walk with God is guided by what is taught, not what is missing. It echoes with my pastor's comment which once made on people who excuse them from reading the bible for the reason of that they do not understand it. He said that there must be some that you understand. Just do what you understand and that would be more than enough for keeping you busy in your walk with Jesus. Shalom Azure |

1764 | ARE WE MARIED | 1 Cor 7:1 | azurelaw | 180220
Dear Hank, I give you my big big smile :) :) Yes, maybe that's why people excuse themselves from learning the Truth. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. What does the 'this' here refer to? Does it refer to V7 about Paul's preference of celibacy or refer to the previous verses? If I understand it corrrectly, it should be in relation to V7. Thank you for your help. Shalom Azure |

Dear nifemi, Please read 1 Cor 7:1-7. The key verses to answer your question should be v. 1 and v. 7 where Paul has made his position clear to be single. Shalom Azure |

1768 | Sanctification by a spouse? | 1 Cor 7:14 | azurelaw | 208537
Dear D.W., Not to distract from others' reply, I would like to provide you the below for your further study: "......it isn't saying an unbelieving wife is saved automatically just because she's married to a Christian husband. Well, what does the word sanctified mean? Well, this is what we call matrimonial sanctification. And what do you mean by that? Well, that's just a term to distinguish it from spiritual and personal sanctification. You become set apart unto God and holy when you believe in Christ...but just having been in a home or living in a home where somebody is a Christian, has a sanctifying influence. Paul doesn't mean that the unbeliever is automatically made a Christian by marriage but what he does mean is that the marriage is benefited and that everybody in the house reaps the benefits." --- John MacArthur http://www.gty.org/Resources/transcripts/1829 |

1769 | 1 Corinthians 7:17 to 28 | 1 Cor 7:19 | azurelaw | 177596
Good day to you, brothers and sisters: If my below questions are repeated in past posts, kindly direct me to them. Scripture from my NIV bible 1 Corinthians 7:17 to 24 Paul said: ...each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him... Q: What did Paul mean? In what aspect(s) did this apply? How should I interpret it in modern days? 1 Cor 7:25 to 28 Q: What kind of present crisis did Paul mean in verse 26? (problem of adultery in Corinthian church? female outnumbered male?) Q: In verse 28, why did Paul specifically mention that marrying or a virgin marrying was not sinning? Was it not understood that it was not sin? Thanks for any help. God bless. Azure |

Dear BEG, Please read 1 Cor chapter 7. As a widow, you are free to remarry; however, if the divorced man's ex-wife is still alive, he should stay unmarried. (1 Cor 7:39) Shalom Azure |

1772 | is it ok to worry for other people? | 1 Cor 9:9 | azurelaw | 177426
Dear Ben, May I suggest the below scripture which I think could fit to your question concerning worry for friends spiritual well-being or even sinning. The verse though meant for Job's children, however, I think it can also apply today concerning our caring for friends and remember them in our prayers. Job 1:4 to 5 His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom. Hope this help. In Christ Azure |

1775 | Local Church ministry | 1 Cor 9:22 | azurelaw | 215211
I understand this verse is not properly applied to the situation I am going to address. However, the spirit of evangelizing does fit. For outreaching the youth in the neighbourhood of my church, a few leaders suggested our preacher to pay several field visits during lunch time to the shops or restaurants where students usually gather to find the possible means of contact. Now there is a brewing idea of opening a tuck shop for the ministry (though this is only at the idea-building stage). I, personally, have great reservation on the idea. Here are my concerns: 1/ Resource (both in terms of money and manpower) properly used as we have very tight resource and the rental price is high. 2/ Goal could be twisted from outreaching ministry to maintaining a balance account. 3/ Is it the purpose of local church and a biblical way to reach the lost? I need views grounded with scriptural support. Your help is very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

1776 | Why apostle Paul identifies rock | 1 Cor 10:4 | azurelaw | 221974
Dear Alex, The answer lies in the verse you quote - the AMP version which reads:- "And they all drank the same spiritual (supernaturally given) drink. For they drank from a spiritual Rock which followed them [produced by the sole power of God Himself without natural instrumentality], and the Rock was Christ. [Exod. 17:6; Num. 20:11.]" See the cross reference scripture : Exodus 17:6 Shalom Azure |

1779 | Will God put on us more than we can bear | 1 Cor 10:13 | azurelaw | 193182
Dear ashelton, I believe most people make use of 1 cor 10:13 to convey the idea that God will not put more on us than we can bear. You have already noticed that this scripture talked about temptation. Temptations are also trials (in other sense) for believers to grow. But God does not tempt us (James 1:12-14). He makes use of our weaknesses to show His power and glory (2 Cor 12:9). Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

Dear EdB, Knowing that you - as a long time contributor to the forum, I am surprised to read of your using word (the "poopoo" word) inappropriately. I am afraid you might have forgotten the TOU (after some time of departure from the forum) which I hope you might refresh your mind with it again. * You agree to interact with each other in a Christian spirit, with respect and grace. May you continue to grace the forum and edify one another with brotherly love. Shalom Azure |
