1701 | is marijuana against the bible | Rom 12:1 | azurelaw | 210165
Dear lilman, Could you please be more specific with your question? Do you mean mis-use of marijuana? Though there is no literal mention of marijuana (as per my understanding) in the bible, His Holy Word provides us clear guideline for christians' moral behaviour. Please read 2 Corinthians Ch 6, 1 Peter 1:13-19, 1 Peter 2:11-12. Shalom Azure |

1703 | is marijuana against the bible | Rom 12:1 | azurelaw | 210180
Dear Adam, A belated welcome to the forum. Could you please cite scriptures that bear the Greek "pharmakia" in order that we may understand the biblical context when the word is in used? Meanwhile, I am afraid it would not be appropriate to presume the poster a marijuana smoker in search of biblical support just base on the short question which still lacks its clarity for proper answer. Shalom Azure |

1705 | reasons to use wordly ways to win others | Rom 12:2 | azurelaw | 220746
Dear greenthumb, What do you mean by worldly speech, amusement, habits, etc.? This will help answering the question more properly and to the point. 1 Pet 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 1 Pet 1:15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; John 13:34 '"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Acts 2:46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, Acts 2:47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. Shalom Azure |

Dear thenoel, As far as I know, there is no scripture specifically forbit being active at 2 churches or more. The issue lies more on whether it is practical to do so for the Lord requires of His servant be faithful. (Luke 16:10) Shalom Azure |

1708 | how to serve (quantity-wise) at church | Rom 12:7 | azurelaw | 216953
Should Christians be serving or engaged in one/single ministry/service at church regardless of your gifts, willingness or problem of lacking manpower at church? The reason I ask the question is that my Chinese Bible contains the word "concentrate/single-minded/solely" in the verse; thus attributing both quantity- and quality-wise. Hope I have clearly expressed my question :-) Shalom Azure |

1709 | weep with others is more important? | Rom 12:15 | azurelaw | 216219
Today, I've just heard someone say that it is MORE IMPORTANT to weep with those who weep THAN to rejoice with those who rejoice. Usually I think it is generally true. However, when I rethink about the verse, there is no such comparison in it. So, I started to ponder if the above statement is biblical or not. Your input is much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

Just click on the latest response. Thank you all for your input. Is there anywhere else in the Bible that teaches or even hints that one is more important than the other or vice versa? Shalom Azure |

Scriptural support: John 2:1-10 - Jesus changed water into wine. Matt 11:19 - Jesus rebuked the Pharisees 1 Timothy 5:23 - Paul's advice for Timothy 2/ Drunkenness is. 1716 | Matthew 13, v 31-32, Mustard Seed | Rom 14:17 | azurelaw | 174242
Can anyone explain in details what the parable of mustard seed mean in Matthew Ch 13 verse 31 to 32? I have read a book stating that the kingdom of heaven could be viewed as the church today and as it grows adnormally big (it is no longer a mustard plant)and becomes a tree, birds in the air (i.e. Satan's agent) come and nest in it. I don't know if this is according to the bible. I have searched the topic on this forum but most of the discussions concern the latter part of Matt which talked about faith to move mountain in relation with mustard seed. Only one or two brief discussions bear the similar content relate to my question.
1717 | Careful use of one's freedom | Rom 15:1 | azurelaw | 182575
1 Cor 8 For verse 13, was it the end of Paul's teaching concerning our careful use of freedom for the sake of not stumbling a weak brother (sister)? I think there are cases in modern days (even in church) that the weaknesses are caused by irrationality, non-sensibility or ignorance. Are there any parallel discussion (with reference to Ch 8) in Paul's letter mentioning that we are also responsible for helping the weak brother/sister to grow? (In verse 13, Paul said : ... I will NEVER eat ... - NIV). So, if a certain weakness sounds really unreasonable but risks the possibility of causing a brother/sister to stumble, do we have to really give up the specific freedom of action FOREVER? |

1718 | Greeting kiss motive | Rom 16:16 | azurelaw | 200082
other verses: 1 Cor 16:20, 2 Cor 13:12, 1 Thes 5:26 Greeting with a kiss was their culture in that time. I find it interesting that my Chinese Bible translating the verses appear to be a focus on the motive of the behaviour whereas English version only uses the term "holy kiss". Here is the Chinese version I translate it back to English to demonstrate the difference in focus: Greeting one another with a kiss, you must be pure and sacred in your motive or mind. My question: 1/ Does the Chinese version transmit the core idea of the apostles when they said so to the church members? 2/ Could we further expand the teaching that even such a seemingly loving and caring behaviour, we should do with great caution? Thanks for your input and Shalom Azure |

1719 | Greeting kiss motive | Rom 16:16 | azurelaw | 200115
Dear Brother John, Thanks for responding. Yes, I agree...the key is "Holy". I believe the reason that we (Chinese) translated it this way is because we do not have the term "Holy Kiss". Whenever I read of those quoted verses above, I always think about the idea as my statement/question in point 2 and in association with a sermon I heard years ago where the pastor warned brothers or sisters earnestly that when they cared about each other in doing counselling for those who were facing problems in marriage, precaution and heavenly wisdom must be prayerfully considered...one to one and cross gender (right word/term?) connection must be avoided to escape from temptation. Otherwise, the situation could be disastrous and severely hurtful and complicated. I personally witnessed (not involved) such case at my own church and learnt of similar cases at another church. Very sad indeed. Shalom Azure P.S. Chinese don't greet with kisses :-) |

1720 | what would be my role in church | 1 Corinthians | azurelaw | 174963
Dear tyree, May I suggest you read Romans 12:3-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-31. According to the scripture, especially in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, I don't think anybody possess all the spiritual gifts with equal balance. There must be an outstanding one. So, in that case, it wouldn't be difficult to identify your role in church. Please correct me if I am wrong. In Christ azure |
