Dear Hank, Thanks for your reply with encouragement and a good sense of humour. I apologize for my ignorance concerning your dialect. It would be fine with me to take the challenge of reading this 'strange and funny' language. But please don't use them in 'key words' :-) My native tongue is Cantonese (a kind of Chinese). You may (if you have time) just read my profile which I have completed for almost a week. May God bless you and all the participants here in this forum. In Christ Azure |

1604 | Fellowship with God or man? | Acts 2:42 | azurelaw | 196218
Dear Mrs. Dean, Welcome to the forum. I join with brother John to encourage you that you will be under the perfect care of our Lord. Who knows what is the best for us, but Jesus. It is extremely important to engage in a church with biblical sound doctrines and to have fellowship with God for apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:1-5). A true church of God is also a church of love for this is the command of Jesus to love one another. So, please no haste. Pray, seek and ask, God will give according to His appointed time, means and will for His glory and for your (and your husband's) good. I will pray for God's strength and comfort in your (and your husband) time of difficulties. Shalom Azure |

1605 | Acts 2:4 disciple filled with holy ghost | Acts 4:31 | azurelaw | 217625
Dear Edd, Acts 2:4 and Acts 4:31 are similar yet somewhat different. Acts 2:4 is the promise that Jesus made to the disciples in ch 1:4-5. Through which they are empowered to speak in tongues and start to preach before they experience the first persecution (ch 4:1). According to the flow of the context of the first 4 chapters, we see that after Peter and John are released, they get together again to pray for boldness (4:24-30) to spread the Gospel and to work miracles in the name of Jesus as taught...then God answers their prayer in v31 to fill them with Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel BOLDLY despite the opppression or persecution. Here, we see how their faith have grown so much. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure |

1606 | sorry, I cannot find any. | Acts 6:2 | azurelaw | 173576
Is there any guidelines in the bible on the performance appraisal concerning the fulltime staff in Church? Since Chuch is a very unique organization, what kind of measuring scale should be considered? |

1607 | Acts 7:54-8-1 | Acts 7:58 | azurelaw | 195613
Dear it is written, Just like your user name "it is written"...:-) Scripture does not show Saul actively participated in stoning or flogging Stephen. His name was first mentioned in verse 58 where he was taking care of the garments of those persecutors. But in verse 60, Saul was pleased that Stephen be stoned to death. It is reasonable to believe that Saul belonged to the angry crowd. Chapter 9 has explicitly confirmed Saul's persecution on the believers. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure |

1608 | Acts 7:54-8-1 | Acts 7:58 | azurelaw | 195682
Dear it is written, A warm welcome to the family of God. I am excited to see God's gracious protection on you from the JW. Paul was an amazing fruit of the Holy Spirit. I believe he must be in an extremely deep grief in his conversion during the 3 days blindness (Act 9:9). Our almight God is so awesome!!! Paul's life reminds me of the below verse: Luke 7:47 "For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little." May you be blessed in your study of the Holy Word. Shalom Azure |

1609 | egyptian eunuch worked for wha queen | Acts 8:27 | azurelaw | 232108
Dear kim34, The Bible did not mention the name. We only know her title is Candace (Acts 8:27). Her name could be Amanitore, reigning Ehthiopia 1-50CE (source Wikipedia) but not for sure. Shalom Azure |

1611 | Simon the tanner, clean or unclean | Acts 9:43 | azurelaw | 225104
Was this Simon's business considered detestable and unclean to the Jews? If so, Peter's stay at his house was not in harmony with his response to the vision he had about eating the unclean animals from God. Most commentary considered Simon the tanner involved in detestable trade because of treating of animals' dead bodies. I checked Levitus chapter 11 that talks about clean and unclean animals. God only forbids the eating and touching of the dead bodies of "unclean animals" while those that are clean will be seen as unclean if the animal died (not killed). Therefore, if what Simon the tanner dealt with were bodies and skin of clean animals being killed for making leather shoes, etc., he should not be viewed as unclean (according to the Torah). Then I can understand why Peter stayed at Simon's house and had such a response against the vision. Need your help to figure it out. Thanks. Shalom Azure |

1615 | Are there any scriptures in the New Test | Acts 11:9 | azurelaw | 196255
Dear Brother John, Yes, we must be reasonable. You know, we (Chinese) almost eat anything. I remember when I was a little child, a close relative was very fond of eating dogs and cats which I felt horrible. He tried to reason his such behaviour with a Chinese saying "those with the back facing the sky are edible". I could not help to talk him back asking "Then do you eat people who are hunchbacked?" (that's what I could do at that age) - silence was the answer I received. Shalom Azure |

1616 | Are there any scriptures in the New Test | Acts 11:9 | azurelaw | 196263
Yes, Chinese say: even the Buddhists (I guess only the Chinese Buddhists) cannot resist the tempting flavour. :-) Shalom Azure Eph 2:3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. |

Ah.....He's not that old and we are not that young either. Psalm 133 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron's beard, It is like the dew of Hermon Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing--life forever. :-) Azure |
