1582 | Mathias a real apostle qualifications? | Acts 1:1 | azurelaw | 204153
Dear Tamara, I believe it yes, as literally recorded in the Bible. See v21-22 for the requirement. They also prayed before they drew lots. Shalom Azure Acts 1:21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us-- Acts 1:22 beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us--one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection." Acts 1:23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. Acts 1:24 And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen Acts 1:25 to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place." Acts 1:26 And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. |

1584 | What about the call to lead? | Acts 1:8 | azurelaw | 200553
Dear LSPS, Welcome to the forum. I tend to say it is Jesus' command to every believer instead of a calling. Whether you feel it or not, it is a must do mission. See Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:19. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

Dear Steve, I began to wonder how CDBJ was led by the Holy Spirit to prophesy with James 4:6 earlier. Isn't it amazing? Shalom Azure |

"When you come to knowing God, the initiative lies on His side. If He does not show Himself, nothing you can do will enable you to find Him. And, in fact, He shows much more of Himself to some people than to others - not because He has favourites, but because it is impossible for Him to show Himself to a man whose whole mind and character are in the wrong condition. Just as sunlight, thought it has no favourites, cannot be reflected in a dusty mirror as clearly as in a clean one." "You can put this another way by saying that while in other sciences the instruments you use are things external to yourself (things like microscopes and telescopes), the instrument throught which you see God is your whole self. And if a man's self is not kept clean and bright, his glimpse of God will be blurred..." - C.S. Lewis |

Dear Brother Lionheart, Thanks for your kind words and your scriptural supplement to my note. Somehow, I wonder is it sensible for a person to argue on something that he does not think it exist. Shalom Azure |

Dear johnboy, It's sad for me to see your seeking under a wrong motive. Maybe you've found YOUR truth, but we definitely found "THE TRUTH". Mat 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Pray for your soul. Shalom Azure |

1592 | When and where was the Pentecost? | Acts 2:1 | azurelaw | 204058
Dear Tamara, It looks like a bit that you are playing "guess who?" I am a CI (computer idiot) but I found this web site simple and easy for me to handle and it is user friendly for me, too. Try this one as a demo. Click on the subject title "When and where was the Pentecost" on the main page, scroll down to the bottom, you see a number of posts attached to this title thread. I believe while you were expecting an answer from Sam, whom you have responded to, Mike jumped in to give his comment. Then you replied to Sam as you thought it was him. Funny that Mike answered you instead of clarifying it. Did I make it clear or just causing more confusion? :-) Shalom Azure |

1594 | Holy Spirit Gifted to All Christendom | Acts 2:32 | azurelaw | 242235
Dear Brother Doc, In echo to your excellent quote, this is what our choir has offered on this Petecost:- Hymn to the Trinity (P. Tchaikovsky) Blessed angel spirits offer praise undying, Ever crying Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth. Saints and Martyrs praise Thy Name, Trinity life-giving, Earth-borne sorrow leaving before Thy throne, Ever crying Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth. Father omnipotent, mighty in glory, Christ Thy Son, our Saviour Who died that we might live. Holy Spirit, mystic dove, dwelling with us evermore, we praise Thee, we praise Thee, Blessed Trinity. With the Angels' sacred hymn, all Thy might proclaiming, with the mystic cherubim in songs of praise we join, Holy, Holy, Holy, join we all in songs of praise forever; Halelujah, Halelujah, Halelujah, Lord God of Sabaoth. Shalom Azure |

1595 | Which church to get baptized in? | Acts 2:38 | azurelaw | 184727
Greetings to you llschab, May I add a little bit of my thought to your question? I think basically it is OK to be baptized at any churches as long as they are teaching sound doctrines not heresy and stick to God's Word. To my knowledge (based on the city where I live), Methodist church is very reliable (I hope it does not vary from countries). You have to discern for yourself your cousin's church based on the same criteria. My second point is that, it would be advisable to be baptized at the church where you are attending and more familiar with. After being baptized, the person usually becomes a member of the denomination. Then you have the right and OBLIGATION to vote. If you are not familiar with the church, how can you vote fairly. In the long term, there could be the possibility that you will part-take in certain ministry (e.g. deacon). Some churches will set the membership as a basic requirement for a person to be involved in the ministry. If you are holding a membership at your cousin's church which you are not attending, it will not be fair to them as well. For if they have the system of congregation meeting annually for decision on some major issues, your vote could be critical to them. My final point is that your focus or consideration should not be where your marriage be taken place, but how God would lead you to the place where He wants you to be involved and serve His body in future. I think the below scripture (though not tackling the issue as yours) could be helpful for your consideration. 2 Corinthians 11 8: I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you; 9: and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so. 1596 | what i personally think | Acts 2:38 | azurelaw | 193807
Dear Searcher, Good argument! The end do not usually reveal the cause. Just quote an old post of mine (183359) in support. "There are in fact cases of people receiving baptism for certain motives. To quote a real case I experienced, many years ago, a good friend of mine had herself and her daughter baptized into Catholic. She admitted that her purpose was to get a better chance (or an advantage) for her daughter to enter into a famous Catholic school. She went to church purposely with her daughter during the period of such arrangement, but never before or after the baptism was done. I felt so sad and worried about her for such cheating. I also know that it is only a corner of the iceberg in our society." Shalom Azure |

1597 | Church for believers only? | Acts 2:39 | azurelaw | 181327
Dear Doc, Your quote : "... by taking in persons who have never been born again ... it is a loss rather than a gain... " Is the church solely (both physical and functional) for believers? What I have experienced in my church, we have couples with unbelieving spouses joining us. Some finally repent, some not yet. We also have a sister in our cell group who admitted that she converted to Christ but still cannot restrain from her adultery behaviour (we have talked to or even scolded her about her sinful behaviour already, but she said she cannot stop it and perfer the man over going to church). However, she is so much attracted by our fellowship that she keeps on joining us (our cell group gathering). We would like to keep her in hoping that she would not be lost forever. We really don't know what to do but prayers. Shalom Azure |

1599 | Church for believers only? | Acts 2:39 | azurelaw | 181361
Thanks Hank for the detailed answer. I think I should have known it but just the concept is not clear enough though. We have 2 different words in Chinese for church. One renders the meaning of the organization or building, the other refers to the body of Christ. So, when I read the English "church", sometimes I have been confused. Now, I will not be confused anymore. Shalom Azure |

1600 | One Pastor and one assembly? | Acts 2:42 | azurelaw | 175140
Dear Hank, I have noticed in some of your recent posts, you have used some strange language or spelling (it looks like so to me) in reply to one or two specific writers, say Bereaniam (Margaret)?. Was it your intention to communicate with them this way? I always enjoy reading your comments and some others' too, say Doc, Kalos, Steve, to name a few. Since I am not a native English speaker, your new approach will add to me some difficulties in understanding your message. I would appreciate it if you could make your language plain (I am not sure if I used the proper wordings here). However, if you think this is the most comfortable or best way for you to communicate with these brothers or sisters, certainly I sincerely respect your choice. Then I have to tune myself to comprehend better :-) In Christ Azure |
