1561 | Holy Spirit operatin our churches today? | Acts | azurelaw | 198134
Dear Water, You say: He want's to heal but He is a Spirit and MUST USE (caps are my emphasis) us through our born again spirit to touch other lives. Are you proposing Holy Spirit works are limited by whether we are cooperative or not? If so, can you cite scripture to support? If I have misunderstood you, my apology. Shalom Azure |

1562 | Why can't I speak in tongues yet ? | Acts | azurelaw | 204273
Oh, dear Tamara! You say: "...Hardly anyone was willing to school me I had to learn the hard way." How could that be? It is not nice to complain about things that are not true, especially to a new comer. Didn't brother Lionheart show you the feature in his post 203783 and I, too, provide some helpful hints in posts 203801 and 204058. Although many of the respondents' answers to your posts might not be satisfactory or acceptable to you, I see many of them have stretched their helpful hands to you. Please be fair when you make any accusation (if there is indeed). Shalom Azure |

1563 | Why can't I speak in tongues yet ? | Acts | azurelaw | 204284
Dear Tamara, Thank you very much for your clarification. No, surely not offended. Whether I am offended is never my concern. Hope by now you are more familiar with the feature and function of the forum. If you still have any problem with it, please do ask. We are very willing to help. When I first joined the forum, just like you that I did not know how the system works, I figured them out myself by reading more, trying all the icons more, I think that is real fun like treasure hunting instead:-) If a CI (computer idiot) like me can manage it, I am sure you can, too! 1 Cor 13:4 Love is patient... Dear Joann, Welcome to the forum. Why? Because... 1 Cor 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually JUST AS HE WILLS. Please also read 1 Cor 13 and 14, then you will understand the gift to be prayed for. Shalom Azure |

1565 | Help! Unclean vs clean meat? | Acts | azurelaw | 205114
Dear LRP, Just got the time to really think about your question and go through a bit of the responding posts to you. I agree with brother Doc's comment that all food are clean to be eaten. The guidelines given in Levite was for the Jews. Some study (I couldn't remember the source) holds the view that it was partly because of the historical, environmental, social and cultural background of the Jews in consideration of their health concern. But I don't see scriptural support on this though I find it reasonable to pose such speculation. However, I believe Gen 9:3-5 strongly support that all food is clean to be eaten whether or not they are Jews. Shalom Azure |

Dear Hood, In addition, please find the below aricle from gotquestions.org which I think helpful for your better understanding. Shalom Azure ***** "Is God restoring the offices of apostle and prophet in the church today?" Answer: The movement to restore the offices of apostle and prophet bases the claim that apostles and prophets are to be a part of the church on Ephesians 4:11-12. These verses say, "And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ." During the first century of the church, there was an office of apostle and there was a spiritual gift of apostle. The office or position of apostle was held by the 12 disciples of Jesus plus Matthias, who took Judas’ place, and Paul. Those who held the office or position of apostle were chosen specifically by Christ (Mark 3:16-19). The replacement for Judas is seen in Acts 1:20-26. Note in this passage that Judas' position was called an office. It should also be noted that Paul was chosen by Christ (1 Corinthians 15:8-9; Galatians 1:1; 2:6-9). These men were given the task of setting up the foundation of the church. It should be understood that it was for the universal church that these men were a part of the foundation (Ephesians 2:20). The foundation of the church (universal church) was laid in the first century. This is why the office of apostle is no longer functioning. There was also a spiritual gift of apostle (this is not to be confused with the office—they are separate). Among those who had the spiritual gift were James (1 Corinthians 15:7; Galatians 1:19), Barnabas (Acts 14:4, 14; 1 Corinthians 9:6), Andronicus and Junias (Romans 16:7), possibly Silas and Timothy (1 Thessalonians 1:1; 2:7), and Apollos (1 Corinthians 4:6, 9). This latter group had the gift of apostleship but not the apostolic "office" conferred upon the Twelve and Paul. Those who had the gift of apostle, then, were those who carried the gospel message with God’s authority. The word "apostle" means "one sent as an authoritative delegate." This was true of those who held the office of Apostle (like Paul) and those who had the spiritual gift (like Apollos). Though there are men like this today, men who are sent by God to spread the gospel, it is best NOT to refer to them as apostles because of the confusion this causes since many are not aware of the two different uses of the term apostle. The gift of prophet was a temporary gift given by the Christ for the laying of the foundation of the universal church. Prophets also were foundational to the universal church (Ephesians 2:20). The prophet proclaimed a message from the Lord for the believers of the first century. These believers did not have the advantage we have of having a complete Bible. The last book of the New Testament (Revelation) was not completed until late in the first century. So the Lord provided gifted men called prophets who proclaimed messages from God to the people until the canon of Scripture was complete. It should be noted that the current teaching of the restoration of prophet and the office of apostle is far from what Scripture describes of the men who held the gift of prophet and the office of apostle. Those who teach the restoration of the office teach that the men who claim to be apostles and prophets should never be spoken against, should never be questioned, because the person who speaks against them is speaking against God. Yet, the Apostle Paul commended the people of Berea for checking what he said against the Word of God to make sure he spoke the truth (Acts 17:10-11). The Apostle Paul also stated to those in Galatia that if anyone, including himself, should teach another Gospel, that person should be "accursed" (Galatians 1:8-9). In everything, Paul kept pointing people to the Bible as the final authority. The men who claim to be apostles and prophets today make themselves the final authority, something Paul and the Twelve never did. It should also be noted that Scripture refers to these men in the past tense. 2 Peter 3:2 and also Jude 3-4, state that the people should not stray from the message the apostles gave (past tense). Hebrews 2:3-4 also speaks in the past tense of the those who performed (in the past) signs, wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. ***** |

Dear Brother Lionheart, One thing always puzzles me is that why people so much concern on the issue of speaking in tongues. This subject, I would say, could be classified as the top 10 frequently discussed topics on the forum. Paul admonished us to desire the greater gifts (1 Cor 12:31) - faith, hope and love, for all the other gifts will be done away (1 Cor 13:8-13). May we always remember all gifts are for edifying members of the church and building up the body of Christ for His glory ONLY. Shalom Azure |

Dear Fmp, Thank you for your response. After reading some of your posts, they puzzled me a lot and I would hope you may clarify my below questions. I also hope that you may retrieve the relevant post in order to avoid any possible misunderstanding:- 1/ From your post 235909, it appears that you don't like to be labelled. However, I would like to ask would you be offended if I call you a Christian? "Christians" was a label given to the disciples in the 1st century (Acts 11:26). On the other hand, why do you then label other forum members as non-christian with the statement "as far as i can determine I am the only Christian on this Forum". (Though you did not specifically said so, but the statement does bear such implication) Do you think you are not acting according to your own belief? I don't think labelling is a problem as long as it rightly describe and define the subject. I am a woman. You are free to label me "woman" for it is a correct label. You may also label me "Chinese woman" for I truly am a Chinese. However, if we meet face to face and I did not make myself clear and you label me "Japanese woman" it only reveals that you don't know me, but I don't feel offended for your ignorance for I understand that Chinese and Japanese have a lot of similarity in the appearance. Therefore, I would politely correct your wrong perception on me. But I certainly will not complain that you are labelling me! 2/ In your post 235909 you said: "I used wikipedia for the difinition of theology simply because it is non-basis unlike the web site you quote..." I think you mean "non-bias" instead of non-basis. Let me remind you, when something is "non-bias" does not necessarily mean it is correct. By the way, if you go to the home page of wikipedia, it says that ANYONE CAN EDIT the "encyclopedia", in that case, how can one be sure if the information is correct or non-bias? The unknown editor holds no liability to it. If anything I said proves to be my misunderstanding, I sincerely hope that you may correct me. Lastly, if you truly believe and determine that you are the only Christian on the Forum, you may feel awfully frustrated for no one meets your mind nor in accord with your belief, i.e. no fellowship will be expected here. In that case, what is your purpose of posting here? Shalom Azure |
