Dear DLorddaughter, Glad to see your post again. "The root of the word Nicolaitans comes from Greek nikao, to conquer or overcome, and laos, which means people and which the word laity comes from." - Jay Atkinson You may also like to retrieve post number 99809 for more information. Shalom Azure |

Therefore, I am quite surprised by your 2 questions especially the second one. What has he done to make us so keen to know him? My answer in short: John 3:16 Could you please give us more background or reason for your asking these questions? Shalom Azure |

1969 | John 13:1 | Not Specified | azurelaw | 189341 | ||
John 13:1 (KJV) Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. (NASB) Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. (Amplified version) [NOW] BEFORE the Passover Feast began, Jesus knew (was fully aware) that the time had come for Him to leave this world and return to the Father. And as He had loved those who were His own in the world, He loved them to the last and to the highest degree. My questions are: 1/ Both KJV and NASB bear the same that "He loved them unto the end". Amplified version shows some additions with "He loved them to the last and to the highest degree." My understanding that Jesus' love is ever-lasting and to the highest degree that He died for our sin (John 3:16). It seems a bit odd to me with the last sentence "He loved them unto the end." Is it the writing style of John to put much emphasis on it? 2/ Following the statement consecutively is the description of Jesus' washing his disciples' feet. How should I associate the statement with the instance? Is it with the amplified version "highest degree" that John wanted to contrast it with the humility of Jesus Christ? Thanks for your guidance. Shalom Azure |

Dear NightJay, Brother lionheart has given you very good answers. May I add a little bit of my thought. I had watched a movie few months ago where the main character was so overwhelmed with his vengeance that he was on his way to kill his enemy. His girl friend asked him to stop, but he could not. So the lady decided to leave him on the scene even the man begged her to stay by saying "I love you". However, the lady replied, "What is left with you to love?" I don't mean that you are outraged with vengeance and I do believe you are ready to forgive, I just want to borrow the concept that "Be our heart filled with bitterness, what is it left with to love?" I think, in order to forgive others, we have to first forgive ourselves that leaving no bitterness in us. Just see how Jesus forgives us so willingly and dearly. I will pray for you, dear brother. I know it hurts (my experience did tell me). Shalom Azure |

By the blood of Jesus, believers are called righteous and saved. As believers, in our process of sanctification in our life time, is it a must that we undergo all sorts of trials, tests, and sufferings, etc.(the refining process of fine gold)? Is sanctification referred to what Paul said in 1 Cor 10:24 as the reward? How should I understand the relationship between being saved and sanctified? With this I mean, some believers believed and were baptized just before the moment of their death, there was no way for them to undergo the process of sanctification as such described in Zech 13:9. Hope I have expressed my question clear. Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |
