1941 | handing one over to Satan | 1 Cor 5:5 | azurelaw | 189666
1 Tim 1:20 What does Paul mean by "....handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme."? The idea seems quite repugnant or contradicting. Similar idea was also found in 1 Cor 5:5 but with different context and targets. Does this refer to Church's disciplinary action on sinning and non-repenting church members? In 2 Tim 2:17 and 4:14, both Hymenaeus and Alexander did not seem to repent finally. Does it mean that such kind of reprimand might not always work? But at least we are able to keep the church pure and clean? Hope that my questions do not appear confusing. Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

1943 | No conviction | James 2:19 | azurelaw | 189597
Dear hunger, Your first statement "A woman gave into her flesh .... " What do you mean? Was she willing or unwilling under threatening? You say "She acknowledges her sin but is not sorry..." We can acknowledge many things, be it a fact, an incidence or a theory.... just as what was said in James 2:19 without any influences on us. I urge you to read the whole chapter of James 2. Without a repenting heart, what's the reason to ask for forgiveness? It also doesn't make sense even to ask a friend for forgiveness when one does not feel sorry nor is not willing to repent. Know that our God is Mighty and HOLY and cannot be deceived. "What is repentance? Let me read to you from the Westminster Confession of Faith, a document that comes to us from the seventeenth century: "By [repentance] a sinner, out of the sight and sense not only of the danger, but also of the filthiness and odiousness of his sins, as contrary to the holy nature and righteous law of God; and upon the apprehension of his mercy in Christ to such as are penitent, so grieves for, and hates his sins, as to turn from them all unto God, purposing and endeavoring to walk with him in all the ways of his commandments. . . yet [repentance] is of such necessity to all sinners, that none may expect pardon without it. As there is no sin so small that it deserves damnation; so there is no sin so great that it can bring damnation upon those who truly repent. Men ought not to content themselves with a general repentance, but it is every man's duty to endeavor to repent of his particular sins, particularly" (Westminster Confession of Faith, chapter XV, sections II, III, IV)." - by P. G. Mathew (source: http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/) Hope I did not misunderstand you. Your further elaboration would be very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

1949 | Why Saul did not recognize David? | 1 Samuel | azurelaw | 189523
Dear John, Thanks for your answer. However, please also read 1 Sam 17:42 "When the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, with a handsome appearance." This seems not in accord with your note. Your further enlightenment would be very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

1 Samuel 16:18-23 and 17:33-39 Described that Saul had met David and knew whose son was he (especially in v. 21-23). Why did Saul appeared to be not knowing David at all in chapter 17 v. 58 when they met again? Was Saul so old that his memory was poor? Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |
