1721 | In prison how did paul get news | Eph 6:21 | azurelaw | 194246
Dear Tiffy312, It is quite possible that Tychicus brought the news to Paul in prison. See chapter 6 verses 21 to 22. Hope this is helpful. Shalom Azure P.S. Did you also register under ASMITH since you are asking the same question almost at the same time? |

Cheri, I think, if space allow, quoting from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 wouldn't be a bad idea in answering every post and every topic. :-) Azure |

Oh, Cheri, Just relax a little bit. You say: I have been born-again probably longer than you've been alive.... I cannot rest my belief on your age unless I have got proof from both of you. But I do believe that you are more spiritually mature. :-) Shalom Azure |

1725 | Romans 5:6-8 how it shows Gods love | Rom 5:6 | azurelaw | 194174
Dear Anne (Canawedding), I do agree that every BELIEVER should seek (by the guidance of the Holy Spirit) the kingdom and righteousness of God as taught in Mat 6:33 and this verse has a wide application, too. However, we must also understand it according to the context where, why and to whom Jesus was speaking to. When you use it to prove that God's love is not unconditional as you say : The very beginning of salvation has everything to do with Mt 6:33, I hardly agree to it. You cannot ignore the those preceding verses especially Jesus was contrasting the audience with the Gentile (see v 32) in concern with their worries, wants and needs. How can a sinner be able to seek God's kingdom and righteousness as scripture clearly says that "there is none who seeks the God" (Rom 3:10-12) and in Roman 5 clearly indicated that we (while we were sinners) are helpless and enemies of God deserving His wrath and punishment. God's unconditional love has been proved in verse 8. Isn't it clearly written in Ephesian 2 that we are all in the passive part. Nothing we can do to be saved. Please pray God to shed His light on you to GUIDE you seek His kingdom and righteousness first (Mat 6:33). It is not you to take the active part, please pray and let God do His work on you. Shalom Azure |

1726 | How old was Ishmael? | Genesis | azurelaw | 194091
Dear jchbrr, You are quite right about the age of Ishmael. Hope the below is helpful: ------------ When Isaac was weaned, Ishmael was about 16 years of age. The weaning was made an occasion for great celebration. But it seems the pleasure of the day was marred by the objectionable behavior of Ishmael. "And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian .... mocking" (Genesis 21:9). Her jealous motherly love had quickened her sense of observation and her faculty of reading the character of children. We do not know exactly what the word used in the Hebrew for "mocking" really means. The Septuagint and the Vulgate (Jerome's Latin Bible, 390-405 A.D.) render the passage: "When Sarah saw the son of Hagar .... playing with Isaac," and Paul followed a later tradition when he says: "He that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit" (Galatians 4:29). Lightfoot (in his notes to the Epistle to the Galatians) says: "At all events the word seems to mean mocking, jeering." At any rate, the fact remains that Sarah objected to the bringing up of the son of promise together with the "mocker," and so both mother and son were banished from the tents of Abraham. Now there came a most critical time in the life of young Ishmael. Only some bread and a bottle of water were "put on the shoulder" of Hagar by Abraham when he expelled her with her son. Aimlessly, as it seems, the two walked about in the wilderness of Beersheba. The water was soon spent, and with it went all hope and energy. The boy, being faint with thirst and tired out by his constant walking in the fierce heat of the sun, seemed to be dying. So his mother put him rapidly down in the shade of some plant. (We do not share the opinion of some writers that the narrative of Genesis 21:8 represented Ishmael as a little boy whom his mother had carried about and finally flung in the shade of some shrub. Even if this passage is taken from a different source, it is certainly not in conflict with the rest as to the age of Ishmael.) After this last act of motherly love--what else could she do to help the boy?--she retired to a place at some distance and resignedly expected the death of her son and perhaps her own. http://www.studylight.org ----------- Shalom Azure |

1728 | Christians living together outside of ma | 1 Corinthians | azurelaw | 194075
Dear PutGodFirst, I cannot imagine how a parent could speak ill (even that is true) of his/her son/daughter in public or vice versa. I think you have to pray fervently for God to help you remedy your relationship with your son, and attending their wedding could be a chance for it. Mat 5:38-48 Mat 9:13 Rom 12:14 (we are required to even bless our adversaries, how much should we bless our son or daughter despite their follies!) Shalom Azure |

1730 | Why are we accused of blaming God? | Rom 9:21 | azurelaw | 194030
Dear Miller, You say: If God was in full control, why did he give them a choice? Do you mean that God has no full control? You say : However, give God the glory when you were attacked with Cancer and he healed your body, thats when he will get the glory. Do you mean that God can be glorified only if the cancer is healed? Thanks for your clarification and elaboration. Shalom Azure |

1731 | facing the problem | Ephesians | azurelaw | 194019
Dear Michael, I believe the below scripture helpful to both of you since you said your friend is a Christian. Ephesians 4:17-32. My suggestions would be: 1/ Pray for them. 2/ Admonish your Christian friend in private with scriptures. 3/ Continue to be a good testimony for Jesus. Explain to your pagan friend that Jesus still loves despite we behave poorly. (Matt 9:13) Hope I have helped. Shalom Azure |

1735 | what i personally think | Acts 2:38 | azurelaw | 193807
Dear Searcher, Good argument! The end do not usually reveal the cause. Just quote an old post of mine (183359) in support. "There are in fact cases of people receiving baptism for certain motives. To quote a real case I experienced, many years ago, a good friend of mine had herself and her daughter baptized into Catholic. She admitted that her purpose was to get a better chance (or an advantage) for her daughter to enter into a famous Catholic school. She went to church purposely with her daughter during the period of such arrangement, but never before or after the baptism was done. I felt so sad and worried about her for such cheating. I also know that it is only a corner of the iceberg in our society." Shalom Azure |

1736 | show me 2 question and answes? | Gen 14:12 | azurelaw | 193735
Dear Sunitha, Your question is not a question and it is a little bit strange. Is it an exercise? We can propose hundreds of questions with answers based on a chapter, but is it necessary or sensible to do so? :-) If we have questions, we will post ours. If you want answers, please give us a specific question. That will be a lot easier for members of the forum to help. So, what exactly is your question? Shalom Azure |

1737 | do we need to fast? | Is 58:1 | azurelaw | 193733
Dear elden, You may also read Matt 9:14-15 where Jesus and His disciples were charged by the Pharisees for not fasting. By the way, the below commentary should be helpful to answer your question. "...Christ pleads in defence of their not fasting. ...it was not a season proper for that duty (v. 15): Can the children of the bride-chamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? …… Every duty is to be done in its proper season. See Eccles. 7:14; Jam. 5:13. There is a time to mourn and a time to laugh, to each of which we should accommodate ourselves, and bring forth fruit in due season. In fasts, regard is to be had to the methods of God's grace towards us; when he mourns to us, we must lament; and also to the dispensations of his providence concerning us; there are times when the Lord God calls to weeping and mourning; regard is likewise to be had to any special work before us, ch. 17:21; Acts 13:2." - Matthew Henry's commentary Shalom Azure |

1739 | Why did God hate Esau? Romans 9:13 | Mal 1:3 | azurelaw | 193721
Dear Maxpower, You say: So a millennium and a half later WHEN GOD LOOKED BACK (caps are my emphasis) on the outworking of both this blessing and curse... Could you please elaborate more on what do you mean by "when God looked back"? Your statement gives me the impression that God has to wait till He finds the need to look back on certain outcomes before He delivers His guidances. Perhaps I have misunderstood you. Thank you for your clarification. Shalom Azure |

1740 | how many times does the Bible tell us Go | John 3:16 | azurelaw | 193574
Dear kwilliamson, You may do a word search with the fuction provided in the "Get Bible Text" by typing "love". However, I think that the focus of your question should not be in the quantitative term but should consider HOW does God love us. (John 3:16) It means nothing to me if someone tells me a hundred times or thousands of times "he loves me" without proof. And if this question is your exercise, I doubt it contributes any to your study at all. Shalom Azure |
