1603 | Death penalty Biblical? | Romans | azurelaw | 197162
Dear Julie, I see little relevance of this verse speaking against the issue of death penalty. The context of Rom 12 talks about the behaviour of saints and urge us to love one another in Christ unity; encourage believers on how to deal with tribulation and persecution. Read furhter to Chapter 13, Paul said "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (v 1) and in v4 "for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil." clearly indicates the role of the governing authorities. Please read the case of Ananias and his wife Sapphira (Act 5) and Jesus' quote in Mat 15:4 that it does not support the view that death penalty being unbiblical. Shalom Azure |

1605 | He owes it all | Matt 22:39 | azurelaw | 197080
Dear Grace, Thank you for the question. It touches my heart. I have nothing to give Him. I tend to avoid making promises like that at a specific time though I understand the Preacher Man just wanted to encourage believers to have a better focus or goal (perhaps). To me, not this Christmas nor any Christmas, but every single second should be Christ-centred. NOTHING is mine, thus I cannot give Him anything. How awesome is our Lord that He gives us this second greatest commandment on Mat 22:39 that He foreknows we can do nothing for him except through our love and care toward our neighbours. I have been serving in the choir for many years. In the past I thought I was serving God (what an erroneous thought it was), finally I realised that God does not need anyone to serve Him. I understand that our ministry at church provides us chances to receive the numerous blessings He pours onto us - we are not the givers but the receivers. Just a bit of my sharing. Shalom Azure |

1608 | New covnant w/ Isrl or proph on Christ? | Jer 31:22 | azurelaw | 197006
Dear Doc, Thank you for your time spent for helping me out. I have also read John Calvin's commentary. Though I find his a strong argument, I still have trouble in understanding as per below:- If the verse renders the meaning as a weak woman stands for the Israelite under captive and the mighty man the "Babylon", and being regarded as a sort of revolution, this I would agree with John Calvin's notion saying it a wonderful thing. But I don't see it a new thing created. Then how should I rightly understand the phrase "the Lord HAS CREATED a NEW THING..." ? Please let me know if I did not make my question clear. Again, thanks for your patience. Shalom Azure |

1609 | Matthew 10:34 Do not think that I have t | Matt 10:34 | azurelaw | 197005
Dear Woman, Welcome to the forum. Hope the below from John Gill's exposition helpful to you: "...... By the "sword" may be meant the Gospel, which is the means of dividing and separating the people of Christ from the men of the world, and from their principles and practices, and one relation from another; as also of divisions, discords, and persecutions arising from it: not that it was the intention and design of Christ, in coming into the world, to foment and encourage such things; but this, through the malice and wickedness of men, was eventually the effect and consequence of his coming; see Luke 12:51 where, instead of a "sword," it is "division"; because the sword divides asunder, as does the sword of the Spirit, the word of God." 1611 | missing pages? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 196945
Dear Michael, I would not recommend the disposal of a bible only because of some missing pages. It can be well re-cycled and usable by breaking it down to individual books as we have seen those being sold on the market in thin and handy books of the NT separately. You might just add the covers to it by DIY so that you can carry it along during travel for your convenient study on the individual books. **Just imagine : there are thousands and thousands of people who have not read a single page of Bible nor even heard of it. Shalom Azure |

Dear One River, Welcome to the forum. Great answer! I am a bit confused. Are you in association with user Shikaratane (i.e. husband or wife?). If so, it is good to see you register under separate accounts to avoid confusion. By the way, it would be also appreciated that if you could fill in more information about yourself on your user profile. God's blessings to you. Shalom Azure |

1617 | New covnant w/ Isrl or proph on Christ? | Jer 31:22 | azurelaw | 196818
Dear Doc, Thanks for the answer. It helps a lot. However, one more doubt : why not use "conceive" instead of "compass". Does it bear any special meaning or message to the Israelite in the time of Jeremiah's by using this word? Shalom Azure |

1619 | New covnant w/ Isrl or proph on Christ? | Jer 31:22 | azurelaw | 196814
Dear Val and Cheri, I am sorry and I should have presented my question better. Let me try if I can put it in a more structural way for better understanding. The commentaries I've read mainly favour the view that it speaks about virgin Mary's conceiving Christ. I have the problem here in understanding "a woman" and "compass". Mary is a virgin not a woman unless it also bears the meaning as in the AMP version "a female". "compass" my Chinese bible translated it as protect - this is also one of the meanings in the AMP version. How can Mary protect Jesus Christ? Other commentaries addressed the idea as the Jewish church seeking after God and returned to Him (a mighty man). Or the church under NT embracing Christ. I feel these explanation follow the context of the chapter, but cannot explain "has created", "a new thing" and "compass". I find it difficult for me to express it well. Hope you understand what my questions are. Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |
