1502 | As a believer can I commit suicide. | Matt 18:12 | azurelaw | 199344
Dear dtruth, My heart breaks whenever I see this kind of question appears on the forum. Having been participating on this God blessed forum for more than 18 months, I have seen a number of participants asking the same question as yours. Frankly, the answer should not be just a "yes" or "no" and I believe that no one really needs nor expects such an answer. What you really need is prayers and a face to face interaction of counselling (a means that is beyond the forum's capacity) with your pastor or trustworthy and faithful christians. That's why we usually provide such recommendation. However, when I think of that both the kind of support might not be available to the questioner, this could be the cause for their coming to the forum for help. So, my answer to your question is : NO believers "may" commit suicide. (1 Cor 10:31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD.) Ask yourself, if committing suicide glorifies God? pleases God? In my society where I live, suicidal behaviour is unlawful as well. We are taught to be in subjection to the governing authorities (Rom 13:1). We also see examples of godly men in the Bible that even they were in the extreme difficult situation and facing severe persecution, they did not commit suicide. To name a few: Elijah (1 King 19:3-10) Job (2:9-10) David (read Psalm) Jeremiah (20:14-18) Jonah (Jonah 4:3) Peter (Matthew 26:75) in contrast to Judah Paul (2 Cor 11:23-30, 12:8-10) I urge you to read Paul's epistles, they are very comforting and encouraging. 2 Cor 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 2 Cor 1:4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor 1:5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. As some other posters responded to you that you are not alone...keep you in my prayers. Shalom Azure |

1504 | Creatures Dependent on their Creator | Is 64:7 | azurelaw | 199240
Dear Brother Doc, Excellent quote. When I finish reading it, I think of Proverb 6:9-11 and a story (about a lazy boy) told to me when I was a child warning us not to be lazy: "In a village, lived a woman and her extremely lazy son. One day, the mother had to leave home for a couple of days. In worrying about her son's diet provision, she made an enormously huge ring shape bread which was good enough for her son during her absence from home. After she put the bread around the neck of her son who was still lying in bed lazily, she departed. Days passed and she went home after finishing her business. Upon her arrival, she found the son lying dead already and she noticed that he was starve to death as he only ate the part that was laid close to his mouth for he was too lazy to turn the bread around." 1505 | Should he biblicy or morally divorce me? | Matt 19:9 | azurelaw | 199221
Dear broken, Your user name can tell us that you have a broken heart. The scripture to offer is Mat 19:9. Please note that God hates divorce. In Moses time, divorce allowed for the Jews was due to their hardness of heart (Mat 19:8). If you and your husband still love each other, you should stay married. However, I am afraid your problem might not be dealt with properly on a study bible forum. I strongly urge you (both you and your husband) seek counselling from your pastor or some trustworthy and mature christians. If you still want to search something in concern with your topic, you may access to the below past posts and read those discussions along the threads. 219 451 4076 You just need to type the number on the search box at your upper right hand corner of the screen. My final note : Kneel before the Throne of God and devote yourselves together in prayers. Let God work in both your hearts. Shalom Azure |

1507 | why do you think jesus prayed? | John 5:30 | azurelaw | 199216
Dear Brother BradK, Well, I do believe that Jesus prayed also from pleasure - but solely the pleasure of His Father (our almighty God) as you have put it by John 5:30; 6:38. John 8:29 "And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are PLEASING to Him." :-) Shalom Azure |

1509 | land vomits out inhabitants? | Lev 18:25 | azurelaw | 199187
Hi Sharolyn, In addition to my previous post, I would like to you go backward to the beginning of Chapter 18 and re-read the whole chapter. In v3, God earnestly warns the Israelites not to follow the wicked deeds (as laid out in the succeeding verses) of Egyptians' and the Canaanites' (their land is going to be taken over by the Israelite). The Canaanites have defiled the land. The land vomits out its inhabitants (the Canaanites) should be understood as God's punishment toward the Canaanites (being cast out, destroyed or exterminated) by Israelite taking over the place as their promise land. Such punishment also applies to Israelite should they follow the evil deeds of the gentiles. Shalom Azure |

1510 | land vomits out inhabitants? | Lev 18:25 | azurelaw | 199186
Dear Sharolyn, Welcome to the forum. "the land vomits..." should not be treated in its literal sense but rather an analogy as per John Gill's explanation: "Verse 25. And the land is defiled,.... The inhabitants of it, with the immoralities and idolatries before mentioned: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it; or punish the inhabitants that are on it for their sins: and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants; as a stomach loaded with corrupt and bad food it has taken in, nauseates it, and cannot bear and retain it, but casts it up, and never receives it again; so the land of Canaan is represented as loathing its inhabitants, and as having an aversion to them, and indignation against them, and as not being able to bear them, but entirely willing to be rid of them and throw them out of their places in it, never to be admitted more, being as nauseous and as useless as the cast of a man's stomach; see Revelation 3:16." Hope it helps. Shalom Azure |

Dear milchaelteng, Welcome to the forum. Have you considered Mat 6:33 goes in parallel with Mat 6:9-13? Check to see if you can find something helpful at the below: http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByScripture/14/460_Hallowed_Be_Thy_Name_In_All_the_Earth/ Shalom Azure |

1512 | who is the angel in rev.10/1 | Rev 10:1 | azurelaw | 199179
Dear mommaw, Welcome to the forum. Most bible scholars believe it be Jesus Christ. "... another mighty angel--as distinguished from the mighty angel who asked as to the former and more comprehensive book (Revelation 5:2), "Who is worthy to open the book?" clothed with a cloud--the emblem of God coming in judgment. a--A; B, C. and Aleph read "the"; referring to (Revelation 4:3) the rainbow already mentioned. rainbow upon his head--the emblem of covenant mercy to God's people, amidst judgments on God's foes. Resumed from Revelation 4:3 face as . . . the sun--(Revelation 1:16, 18:1). feet as pillars of fire--(Revelation 1:15, Ezekiel 1:7). The angel, as representative of Christ, reflects His glory and bears the insignia attributed in Revelation 1:15,16, 4:3, to Christ Himself. The pillar of fire by night led Israel through the wilderness, and was the symbol of God's presence." (Jamieson Fausett Brown) "The person who was principally concerned in communicating this discovery to John—an angel from heaven, another mighty angel, who is so set forth as would induce one to think it could be no other than our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! 1. He was clothed with a cloud: he veils his glory, which is too great for mortality to behold; and he throws a veil upon his dispensations. Clouds and darkness are round about him. 2. A rainbow was upon his head; he is always mindful of his covenant, and, when his conduct is most mysterious, yet it is perfectly just and faithful. 3. His face was as the sun, all bright, and full of lustre and majesty, ch. 1:16. 4. His feet were as pillars of fire; all his ways, both of grace and providence, are pure and steady." (Matthew Henry) Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

1513 | Psalms 1:2-3? | Exodus | azurelaw | 199132
Dear Nandi, Kindly note that context is very important in studying the Bible. May I suggest you go to the below site where you can find sound biblical commentary for better understanding. http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/ Meanwhile, I would not hold the view that the depicted picture in Psalm 1:2-3 properly relates to Eden. Rather I view it in parallel to John 15:1-15 where Jesus is the vine and we are the branches to abide in Him to bear fruit. Shalom Azure |

1515 | God's Zeal? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 199113
Thank you, Doc, for your generosity. It is indeed a good quote and Sam Storm really answers the prideful question "if God loves Himself pre-eminently, how can He love me at all?" asked by fallible human (though it is understable). We always FORGET that we never have anything that make us loveable, but sin. And yet, "...God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:8) Shalom Azure |

1517 | God's Zeal? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 199084
Dear Doc, My try on your leading question : God's zealous is His own glory. With this bearing in mind, we might humble ourselves. May I also add John 13:31-32 and the whole chapter of John 17? What is my grade, sir? Shalom Azure |
