161 | Tongues mean Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:38 | WalkingTalkingBible | 181692
Hi Chris, What you've written has helped me confirm my understanding of the Holy Spirit baptism and speaking in tongues. I was frustrated on the behalf of new converts because when they accept Christ as Savior, they are told that they will need the baptism of the Holy Spirit and that they have to "tarry" for Him to come and dwell within (they told me the same thing when I first received Christ and I almost quit because when I didn't speak in tongues, they said I didn't have the Holy Spirit. I felt like God didn't want me!). I disagree. I believe, as you helped me understand also, that you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit when you ask Christ into your life and accept Him as your Savior. I believe that speaking in tongues come as a result of the anointing of God. Also, I believe, as you have, in the gift of tongues. When I'm praising and worshipping God, sometimes I speak in tongues, but I have no control of it, so I don't have the gift. I only speak in tongues when His anointing comes over me. What do you think about that? Also, can you give me some advice on how to understand and view "holy dancing?" To me, it looks like a bunch of people acting like idiots and babbling in an unknown language, but then, without my control, I start acting like that. What is going on?? It's like I get so happy to have God as my Father, my King, my everything (I wasn't trying to rhyme, really) that I have to dance! Is that what King David was experiencing when the Ark of the Covenant was returned to Jerusalem? Sorry for all of these questions, but you seem to know a lot about the Holy Spirit. Thanks again. Your sister in Christ, WTB |

162 | Tongues mean Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:38 | WalkingTalkingBible | 181693
Thanks, Doc. I agree, the Word only is our sole authority. I understand that I don't have to agree with them (although I have to still be Christ-like in my disagreement with them). I agree with what the Word says. If you were me, would you continue to support the service? What I mean is, there is an entire service set aside just so new converts can "tarry" for the Holy Spirit. If these new converts speak in tongues, these leaders say that he/she has been baptized with the Holy Ghost. If the new convert doesn't speak in tongues, then he/she is told that they have not received the "fullness." I disagree so much. Am I being rebellious for not supporting that service? Thank you so much for your help, WTB |

Thanks, Chris, your words have been really encouraging to me. I agree with your wife - dance as long as it is to the Lord (let her know for me that the men are dancing and shouting also). I also agree with your take on titles and only certain people who so call have the anointing of God. I will heed to every word you've spoken with prayer and studying. Thanks again! WTB |

165 | Tongues mean Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:38 | WalkingTalkingBible | 182228
Thanks, DocTrinsograce, for your response. I think I am more in disagreement about the whole tarrying for the baptism of the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues as the "initial" evidence than anything else. I've been studying and praying for understanding of this particular topic, and I believe I have the understanding now - and all of the responses I've received have helped a great deal. I chose to stop going to the service, altogether. My church is a Bible teaching church, but there is also a lot of old traditions that do not line up with the Word. The rebellion is there (in my heart) but I don't act upon. I choose to frequent the prayer services rather than "Holy Ghost Night." I think my whole choice of not going to the services is also based on the fact that the church also fails to minister to young adults like me. It seems so easy to stop going than to "put up with" a bunch of older people teaching their life long traditions. I know I sound very immature and upset, but sorry, I actually am spiritually immature (concerning this matter) and upset! Thanks for your time, and again, for your response. It helped me look at what's in my heart and examine myself. WTB |

166 | a physical or spiritual body? | Acts 8:22 | WalkingTalkingBible | 118128
Hi, to be "born again" is a conversion from the natural (sinful) way of life to the spiritual (Godly) way of life. In Romans 5:12, we see that sin fell on all who were born after Adam. Therefore by the first birth, which is the natural birth, we are born sinners. We lived according to the ways of the world. To be born again is to choose to accept Jesus as Savior and choose to live by the word of God. 1 Peter 1:23 says "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." So we influence our rebirth by choosing Christ as Savior and living by His word, no longer living by the course of the world. This is a daily and progressive walk, as we become more like the children God called us to be. John 3:8 means that only God knows when one meets the condition to be born again, and this is in reference to John 6:44 and John 15:16, 19. WalkingTalkingBible |

167 | can you explain a little more? thanks | Rom 8:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 121123
Hi, Leonore and welcome to the family of God!! Angel and Zsuzsi have given you some very good, Godly advice! I just want to encourage you to take your time and really get to know God. Ask God (if you haven't already) to fill you with the Holy Ghost. "But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]." 168 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 121192
Hi, Leonore! Don't beat yourself up, no one knows it all but God! It is better to get understanding than to walk in the darkness of one's own mind. According to Acts 2:4, "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." The "speaking in tongues" is the initial (or preliminary) sign of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost. The evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost, according to Galatians 5:22-23, is the fruit of the Spirit: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance. . ." Yes, I am filled with the Holy Ghost. When I praise Him and worship Him, with all that's in me, His presence surrounds me. It's such a beautiful experience!! He is that Love everyone is looking for! His presence prompts you to magnify Him and when you are totally out of self -with nothing or no one on your heart but Him, He lets His presence be known. And while you are magnifying Him, your words become His words and that's the utterance (or tongues). I don't speak in tongues everytime, but each one of our relationships with Him is different. Because the Holy Ghost is God, sin is an offense to Him. He will dwell with you and in you as long as you want Him to. The ministry of the Holy Ghost is to: 1) Reprove (point out a fault or error or to expose something as it really is) the world of sin, which reveals the need of redemption 2) Reprove the world of righteousness, which is to reveal the possibility of redemption 3) Reprove the world of judgment, which is to reveal the reality of redemption (John 16:7-11) The Holy Ghost will not dwell with sin, that's why He points it out so the believer can confess it and ask for forgiveness. If a person continues to willfully sin, the Holy Ghost is not dwelling within - not because He leaves them, but because they have chosen to leave Him. Contrary to "popular belief," God does not dwell with sin! But as you continue to grow spiritually and fall in love with Him more and more, it will be nothing to praise and worship Him and He will continue to let His presence be known to you! 169 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 121280
Hank, I don't know what you have against me, but Acts 2:4 says that they spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave utterance. No, you won't find "initial sign" in the Bible when refering to tongues, but that's why it is important to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ghost - same Being), He will teach you all things. Read in Acts, where others were being filled with the Holy Ghost, the believers didn't know the others had been filled with the Holy Ghost until they heard them speak in tongues. Have you ever felt the presence of God? What will you call it? It seems that if I use "experience" I'm wrong. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is when He baptizes all believers into the body of Christ. The indwelling, or filling, of the Holy Ghost is when the believer is empowered to be witnesses unto God, to live the Holy life God calls for, and to continue in the faith until Jesus returns. You judge me by saying that I rely on my own feelings. But since I know God and not of Him, I can truthfully say that His presence is beautiful. I have a personal relationship with Him and not a theological one. WalkingTalkingBible |

171 | what makes you a prophet? | 1 Corinthians | WalkingTalkingBible | 118881
For the our age, church age (dispensation of Grace), one who operates in the gift of prophesy - it is a gift of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4, 10, 28 - 31). It is also called a "calling" (Ephesians 4:1-4, 11-12) in which God reveals divine messages to the prophet to be told to the members of the body of Christ. This message would be something that only God can know, as opposed to psychics who only speak of what has already been spoken. To a prophet God reveals things to come and those things come to pass. In our dispensation, a prophesy is spoken for our spiritual growth, our service to souls, and edification (Ephesians 4:11-12). WalkingTalkingBible |

172 | Let your women keep silent? | 1 Corinthians | WalkingTalkingBible | 118885
I believe 1 Corinthians also applies to churches today. A woman (and men) should keep silent in reverence to the the one(s) God has called to lead the church. For example, in prayer service, where the bishop or preacher is leading the service, I notice a lot of women speaking in tongues and praying very loud so that the preacher can't be heard. This is not orderly. In the Corinthian church, which was predominantly new converts, they were blessed with the gifts of the Spirit. The problem was that the women were speaking over the men and it caused a lot of confusion. That's why they were told to keep silent in the church (also, the men were told to keep silent if there were no interpreters). Everything has to be done decently and in order. Women can speak in church, as long as it is orderly (when called to speak by the preacher). I do not believe 1 Corinthians 14 should be used to tell women that they should not speak at all in the church. WalkingTalkingBible |

Help me to understand your belief - "How does lack of repentence from sin in the life of a believer disqualify him from the inheritance that he has been promised by God in Christ?" Do you believe that unrepented sin of a believer is automatically forgiven, just as long as he believes? WalkingTalkingBible |

174 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120475
Matthew 3:11 says, "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:" The baptism of the Holy Ghost and the indwelling of the Holy Ghost appear to be two different events that a true believer experiences. Can anyone explain? (Please, no theological references, only respond with what the Holy Ghost, Himself, has revealed - John 14:26) Thanks in advance, WalkingTalkingBible |

175 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120538
BradK, being baptized with the Holy Ghost is not the same as the filling, or indwelling of the Holy Ghost. See JCrichton's answer to my question. The Ephesians, Corinthians, and Colossians were not only baptized (into repentence), they were also filled with the Holy Ghost (and also, operating in the gifts of the Spirit). WalkingTalkingBible |

176 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120640
All members (all of those who would be and are) of the body of Christ are baptized by one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). "No man can say Jesus is the Lord but by the Holy Ghost (verse 3)." Only by the Holy Ghost can a human (any human) know that Jesus is the Savior. This is what's called in the spirit "blind receiving sight." 1 Corinthians 12:13 is directed towards a church (yesterday and today) that's dealing with division among its members (11:18). Paul writes to let them know that no position, calling, or gift is above another - they are all of the same Spirit - everyone in the body of Christ is of the same Spirit. If all a soul had to do is "believe," then what would have been the purpose of the Day of Pentecost? The disciples, apostles and the other people in the upper room were all believers - Jesus had revealed Himself to them as the Savior. Matthew 16:15-17 shows us the revelation of Jesus, as the Christ, to Peter. Peter was a believer and also was among those who were told to "tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:49)." The baptism of the Holy Ghost - Jesus draws (John 6:44), reveals Himself as the Savior (Luke 10:22), and gives the faith to believe (Romans 10:17). John the Baptist told the souls, ". . .He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. . ." (Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:16). Fire is a typical figure of power. The indwelling of the Holy Ghost - when Jesus comes to live in the "temple" of the believer (John 7:39; 14:16-17, 26; 16:7). (Sorry it took me so long to answer, I was changing internet providers.) Colossians 2:10 and Galatians 2:20 makes you feel "complete" in what sense? If God has done all He has to with you, you no longer need Him. There is much, much more of Him for you to get! Do you know Him? God is a living being, Sovereign, Holy, mysterious - no way do you know all that there is to know about Him. Everything you need is in Him - is that what you mean by "complete?" Do you know Him personally? As your healer? your provider? your Comforter? Are you anointed with and operating in His power to heal the sick, cast out devils, and raise the dead? Do you hear His voice? Do you have all of the fruit of the Spirit? Are you totally without sin? Do you perfectly love everyone? Do you feel His presence (I haven't experienced all of these, either, just some)? Don't be deceived - God is more than what theology teaches, He's real! He sees, hears, talks, feels, and moves. He hasn't totally revealed Himself to no one. 2 Peter 1:3-11 shows us how to grow in grace - it's a process. Faith is an action word! False doctrines tell souls that "once saved always saved." That's a lie. The word "believe" in the greek means "to commit, accept, to trust." Being saved is being in a relationship with the Almighty God! If we have to work at making our natural relationships work, don't hesitate to think that you're going to have to put some work into this divine relationship. But God has given us everything we need to make this work - all we have to do is choose and grow (1 Peter 2:2; 2 Peter 3:18). Also see Romans 11:22; James 1:25; 1 Timothy 4:16 "And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled. In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: IF ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven. . ." 179 | Do our works keep us saved? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120680
Faith keeps us saved: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6)." Notice that "seek" is in the present tense which means that we are to continue to seek Him. It's more to this walk with God than to say, "I believe," and that's it, the devil believes, too. Faith is an action word. Our works which we do, being led by the Spirit of God through Jesus, show our faith. "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:14-20) These works are not to be confused with works that the unsaved do. For example, there are many who take care of the poor and homeless, feed the hungry, and adopt the fatherless, but they are not saved. They won't go to the Kingdom of God just because they did those good works. Unless they repent and become part of the body of Christ, those works are in vain. It's the same when some professes to be saved, and you can't tell them from someone who is unsaved. Sometimes, people who call themselves saved are only justified by what they think the Bible says. The Holy Ghost is the teacher and without Him, the Gospel remains "hidden." If one falls away from faith, will he/she still be considered saved because of a so-called "belief?" Only in his/her eyes. God says that we are to remain saved until the end. It's not a one time deal. If there is unrepented sin in the heart of a believer, God let's us know that He is able to save us from it - we have to take responsibility and repent. "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins" (Hebrews 10:26). And if you say you no longer sin, you are a liar! (1 John 1:8-10) But we know that if we sin, we have Jesus Who will forgive us if we repent (2 John 1:1). WalkingTalkingBible |

180 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120683
I'm glad to hear that your faith is not based on feelings. I am more concerned with your statement "how much more of Him can I get?" Yes, as a believer, all of the promises of God are open to you. But that's why I asked all of those questions, have you attained all of the promises He has for you? Remember when God promised the Israelites "a land flowing with milk and honey? (starting at Exodus 3)" They had to go through the wilderness to get there. Yes, He had many promises for them in the promised land, but they had to get there. So it is with all of the promises He has for us. We already have Salvation through Jesus and some of us, the Holy Ghost, but there are many, many more - including eternal life with Him. All of the people who were promised the land didn't make it there. Same with some who call themselves believers - not all are going to have eternal life with God (Matthew 7:21). The reason I stated, "Don't be deceived - God is more than what theology teaches" is because God is not a subject to be studied. To study Him as a subject means to find out all that's available about Him and bring it to an understanding acceptable to the mind and to enable operation in what is naturally desired. God is a living being and He told us to "study to show ourselves approved" unto Him! If I were to study you, how much can I learn without you telling me things about you, there are probably things about you that you haven't discovered. Everything we will know about God will be revealed to us by the Holy Ghost. To know more about Him is to get closer to Him in our walk with Him. Theology doesn't teach one to "know" God, it teaches one "about" God. Both are needed to make to be with God. See Isaiah 40:28 WalkingTalkingBible |
