281 | Divided House of Israel | 1 Kin 11:31 | Val | 192913
This was called the Northern Kingdom ten tribes: 1 Kin 11:31 He said to Jeroboam, Take for yourself ten pieces for thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and give you ten tribes: This was called the Southern kingdom Judah and Benjamin: 1 Kin 12:20 It came about when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. None but the tribe of Judah followed the house of David. |

282 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195951
A study of the prophet Elijah will give you great insight into what the spiritual climate was at this time. Elisha was chosen by God to be His prophet to succede Elijah. The timing was also important as it was close to this transition of prophets that this incident occurred. When the youths, as someone has already stated they were not minors as we consider children in our day and time, but they were young adults, when they began to mock Elisha they were challenging his authority and role as God's prophet. We must also consider that God sees people's hearts. This is something you and I nor any other human can see. When these young adults were mocking Elisha they were treading on thin ice. They were not only mocking Elisha but Elisha's God. They were undermining his authority as God's prophet. They brought judgment upon themselves in their attitudes and actions. Obviously it was a serious offense that brought them immediate judgment.
283 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195964
Thank you. I particularly enjoyed studying the miracles God performed through Elisha. It was a very interesting period of time. An amazing verse is 2 Kin 13:21 As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet. Pretty remarkable isn't it. |

284 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195969
Yes I think so too. Also look at 2 Kin 13:14 When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" . What do you make of this verse? A few people in my SS class (at the time)who believed in the health and wealth sort of thing were bewildered that Elisha got sick and die. Anyway his interaction with Joash in verses 13-19 regarding the arrows and striking the ground were an interesting part of the story. Do you think that was a prophecy of future events or was he testing Joash's faith? Looking on down in 2 Kin 13:25 Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel. |

286 | why does Elisha need music to intercede | 2 Kin 3:15 | Val | 197478
Actually Elisha was upset with the kings. Jehoram did evil as you see from verses one, two and three of this chapter. It is believed that Elisha was upset with Jehoshaphat because he had accepted this invitation from Jehoram. Jehoshaphat did right in the eyes of the Lord. 1 Kin 22:43 He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing right in the sight of the LORD. However, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places. 1 Kin 22:44 Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel. Elisha and Jehoram were not on good terms. 2 Kin 3:13 Now Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What do I have to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother." Elisha interceded for them only because of Jehoshaphat. 2 Kin 3:14 Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you nor see you. I believe the instrument helped to calm him and put him in the right attitude to intercede for them. Much can be learned from this action. Even when we mess up or get ourselves in trouble, the Lord still helps us when we turn to Him. In the inductive study method which I use a thorough study of those persons mentioned in a passage helps in observing the text. In this case a study of Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Elisha by looking up all the verses where they are mentioned in the bible and then making a list of what you learn about them helps to see the historical context and their relationship to God. Observing the text is vital to proper interpretation and application. May God bless you. |

287 | Was Elijah in the chariot in departure? | 2 Kin 6:17 | Val | 202516
Most drawings and pictures of this scene show Elijah in the chariot. You can find pictures of this scene on the net. While the text doesn't say he climbed in the chariot what we can be sure of is that these are God's messengers who brought Elijah safely to his final home. There are many miracles in Elisha's life and are so worth reading. I would put Elijah in the chariot for your muscial. Blessings, Val

289 | what is the significance of 2 kings 9: | 2 Kin 9:7 | Val | 198118
Do a word study on Ahab and Jezebel. That means take a concordance and look up every reference to them. When you do this you will see that Jezebel worshiped idols and led her husband to do the same and he being king of Israel led the people away from God. They worshipped the Baals. The importance of this chapter shows that the living God is God over all governments. It also shows that to rebell against God brings His judgment when we do not turn away from evil and turn to Him and worship and obey Him. Disobedience eventually brings God's wrath. May God bless you.
290 | ahabs family prophesied to die... | 2 Kin 10:6 | Val | 198115
There is a verse that says you reap what you sow. Ahab and his wife were the most evil except for maybe Manessah. They did evil time and again. They did not listen to the prophets. Had some of them killed. It is a dangerous thing to rebell against the living God. God asks us to obey Him. He has that right because He is the creator of all. If we chose to not obey Him we suffer the consequences. He is patient but there comes a time when His patience runs out and then we see His wrath. The point in this is that God is a God of love and has given us a path to be rescued but if we do not accept that path all that is left is judgment. No telling how many heads Ahab and Jezebel cut off so no its not scary. The people were relieved that the evil was removed from their midst. May God bless you.
291 | Biblical women who wrote songs | 1 Chr 25:1 | Val | 205178
If you do a word study on Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun you will see they were chosen to start the choir so to speak. You will see many of their songs in Psalms. As for women you might want to do a word study on song or songs. That might be good starting point. 1 Chr 25:1 Moreover, David and the commanders of the army set apart for the service some of the sons of Asaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with lyres, harps and cymbals; ... 292 | What is the joy of the Lord | Neh 8:10 | Val | 202598
In the context of Nehemiah verse 17 gives us more insight, Neh 8:17 All the assembly of returned exiles made booths and dwelt in them; for since the days of Jeshua (Joshua) son of Nun up to that day, the Israelites had not done so. And there was very great rejoicing. It was a day of rejoicing and sadness, i.e., mixed emotions you might say. We see this sometimes at weddings, tears of joy. The Lord brought them back to the land. Trusting the Lord gives us joy because in Him we have hope and He gives us strength in the hard times if we rely on Him. Blessings - Val |

293 | being/knowing you are beautiful | Esth 2:7 | Val | 192768
(There is an account of a beautiful woman called Esther. She used her beauty to save an entire nation. It is a very beautiful story- like a short story-perhaps you might gain some insight from it) Esth 2:7 He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had no father or mother. Now the young lady was beautiful of form and face, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter. Esth 2:17 The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found favor and kindness with him more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. Esth 4:13 Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not imagine that you in the king's palace can escape any more than all the Jews. Esth 4:14 "For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?" Esth 4:15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, Esth 4:16 "Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish." |

294 | the voice of Job thunders to Today | Job | Val | 198114
In the story of Job, he has some friends who come and preach to him. Not all that they said was agreed upon by God. As you read the whole story you see in the later chapters He refutes much of what they say. The bible recorded these conversations but a deep study would have to be undertaken to understand this book. May God bless you.
295 | Doe sGod hear prayer of unbeliever | Psalm | Val | 200810
Zinna, I don't know the context of your situation but I know that God will have mercy on whom He will have mercy. It is His decision what He will hear or not. However, the following passage is given to believers who seem to flip flop. Hope it helps, Blessings, Val James 1:1 James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings. James 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, James 1:3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. James 1:4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, James 1:8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. |

297 | The use of question in Bible's text? | Psalm | Val | 214152
Hopefully it would accomplish a careful, thoughtful reading of the word. By asking questions it causes your mind to think and grasp what is being said. It causes you to look at the context of the passage. It slows you down to where you really look and remember what is being said. It shows you who the author is, the recepients, the purpose for writing, the historical and cultural context. Repeated topics form the theme of the chapter and book. Sincerely, Val

299 | Love sinner hate sin Part II | Ps 5:5 | Val | 205133
Thomas that is a very good question. What I would suggest is to get a concordance and look up the words God and Jesus to look specifically at their ways in regards to justice. Other words such as condemn and condemnation would show why people are condemned to hell. You might also do a word study on hate and love. First go to a concordance and see the verses used. Use a bible dictionary to help unearth meanings of words. I use Vines and Zodhiates. Our allegiance is to Christ Jesus and God the Father. We must be aware of evil, that is another good word to study. We are to walk in the Spirit so we are always attuned to Christ and who we are to help and who would do us harm. Blessings Val
300 | god hates sin but loves the person | Ps 5:5 | Val | 216745
Dear Love, Christ came to rescue the sinner and give him eternal life through the shed blood of Christ on the cross. He paid the sin debt for everyone and when one puts his faith and trust in Christ and his finished work on the cross he receives the gift of eternal life. We are told in the following passages that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners so yes he does love sinners of which we all are. To die without receiving this gift puts one in the position of not having the debt paid for so thus one dies in his sins and we are told the wages of sin is death. Christ loves us all and wants all to come to the saving knowledge of him. It is the goodness of God that brings us to repentance. Yes he loves the sinner which we all are. Here are some references. Do a word study on sinners, love, merciful, eternal life for further scriptures. Romans 5, How much does God love sinners? He loves them so much that he died for them, verse 6. All humans are sinners, verse 12. Christ paid the sin debt for everyone, verse 18, Through the grace of God through His Son Jesus Christ we have eternal life, verse 21 Faith Triumphs 1 Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace[1] with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Also through Him, we have obtained access by faith[2] into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, 4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. 5 This hope does not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Those Declared Righteous Are Reconciled 6 For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us! 9 Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. 10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, [then how]* much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by His life! 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Death through Adam and Life through Christ 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned.[3] 13 In fact, sin was in the world before the law, but sin is not charged to one’s account when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam’s transgression. He is a prototype of the Coming One. 15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift overflowed to the many by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ. 16 And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, resulting in justification.[4] 17 Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. 18 So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is life-giving justification[5] for everyone. 19 For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 The law came along to multiply the trespass. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness, resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
