481 | How many generations betw Exodus-Solomon | Matt 1:17 | Val | 207218
Jim, as I understand it, God has always been merciful to any person who would put his faith and trust in Him as He is the creator of all humankind. In the first book of Genesis He says to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through you. This means "all nations". Gentile nations. There is no punishment to a person who puts their faith and trust in Christ alone. That punishment was paid for on the cross. Christ made propiation for our sins. God has always had a believing remnant. Abraham was justified by faith in God. When Christ came to earth He was rejected by His people. Paul preached to the jew first then to the gentiles. Its all covered in the bible. Christ has always shown mercy to people who put their faith and trust in Him (Jehovah God) in the old testament and new testament whether jew or gentile.
482 | How many generations betw Exodus-Solomon | Matt 1:17 | Val | 207217
Ruth was a gentile. The book of Ruth is about Boaz being the kinsman redeemer. It shows that Christ is the kinsman Redeemer for gentiles as well as the Jewish people. Boaz was a type of Christ. I haven't had time to read the whole thread but I have studied Ruth. There are many people who were formerly in darkness but are now in the light. There is a place in the bible that says "such were some of you but you have been washed" So the fact that Rahab was a harlot should not cancel out her being in the line of Christ. We are saved by grace alone. So it does not matter what ones prior life was as Christ paid the price for our sins on the cross and nailed them there. This is what makes the blood of the cross so precious. What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus. Rahab is recorded in Hebrews as a woman of faith. Her being named there is quite a place of honor. The focus should be on what Christ did at the cross not how good we are that saves us. The fact that no one deserves heaven - means no one. Our righteousness is as "filthy rags". Even those who by all appearances are upright and haven't committed any of the bad sins. The book of Galatians tells us what grace and faith are all about. |

484 | How Far Are We To Suffer For Christ? | 1 Pet 4:16 | Val | 206862
Dear Azure, all your posts on this subject have been very edifying and clear. As always your pleasant demeanor is much appreciated. You are an inspiration to me in the way you speak with love and firmness. Your love for christians and the lost is evident by your posts. Thank you for answering the questions and concerns brought up. The prayer of Hannah comes to mind when I think of the awesomeness of our great God. May I share it with all. 1 Sam 2:1 Then Hannah prayed and said, "My heart exults in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. 1 Sam 2:2 "There is no one holy like the LORD, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. 1 Sam 2:3 "Boast no more so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the LORD is a God of knowledge, And with Him actions are weighed. 1 Sam 2:4 "The bows of the mighty are shattered, But the feeble gird on strength. 1 Sam 2:5 "Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, But those who were hungry cease to hunger. Even the barren gives birth to seven, But she who has many children languishes. 1 Sam 2:6 "The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up. 1 Sam 2:7 "The LORD makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts. 1 Sam 2:8 "He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, And He set the world on them. 1 Sam 2:9 "He keeps the feet of His godly ones, But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; For not by might shall a man prevail. 1 Sam 2:10 "Those who contend with the LORD will be shattered; Against them He will thunder in the heavens, The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed." I believe we serve a God who is able to deal with and does work in people's lives. Blessings to you, Sister Azure Val |

485 | How Far Are We To Suffer For Christ? | 1 Pet 4:16 | Val | 206781
Bowler, Are you saying in your first paragraph that obeying Christ does not provide "a nice life". Your statement "they would have to leave everything behind that they have worked so hard to have" is difficult to understand. Are you saying professors of Christ should have no possessions? Your statement "Their lives would definitely be ruined" is difficult to understand as well. Your further statements are hard to understand as well without details. From your perspective it seems you think you are the only one who is on track. That is a Pharisee attitude is it not? Matt 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 3 Matt 7:4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? 4 Matt 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. |

487 | Disciples One With Christ? | Eph 2:5 | Val | 206608
Dear bowler, many places in the bible it is said that only God and God alone knows the intentions of a man's heart. Because He does have this insight that no human has it would be impossible to say when the disciples had a definitive event. The bible teaches that if a person is in the faith, the evidence of that is that he will continue in the faith. We know from reading the bible that Judas appeared to be in Christ but actually was not. Since we can only observe the otherward appearance, it would appear that when Jesus called each disciple individually and that one obeyed by dropping what they were doing and following Christ, from our limited point of view that would have been the "definitive event". However, again since only God can rightly judge the heart, it is not possible for us to judge one another because we are only human. There will be many people in heaven who we would not have thought would be there and some may be surprised to see us there. In saying all this we do know that Christ called some as apostles and we have the written word as evidence. However, as to a definitive moment, I would say only God knows. Gen 18:25 "Far be it from You to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?" |

Quvmoh, your commentary is interesting. Do you have any historical references or scripture to back it up? Where do you get the 3 million figure? Also what do you mean by the phrase strict and literal? I am just trying to understand. Thanking you in advance, Val |

492 | Take up another's offense or not? | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 206158
While I agree one should get both sides of the story; the bible does talk about justice for children and widows, the poor, those people who need help. Each case should be looked at in its context and then search scripture for appropriate application. There is a verse about strife. Sometimes if not most times its best to stay out of arugments that are not really that important. Prov 26:17 Like one who takes a dog by the ears Is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him. I heard someone say sometime, we should chose our battles carefully. Blessings, Val |

493 | Glorious church? | Rev 1:11 | Val | 206157
I understand completely. We get our hope from Christ so its best to keep looking to Him rather than around at other people. People are people no matter where they are. Some are negative and some are not so negative. Personally I like the not so negative. Blessings, Val
494 | Where the priest impatient and greedy? | 1 Sam 2:13 | Val | 206156
No problem. I think Eli's sons were taking advantage of their position. I believe there were numerous priests performing this service. The two sons were like the head priests. Eli was the top priest. Levitcus lays out the details. I have studied Leviticus and I Samuel that is why I answered your question. Leviticus would probably answer your detail question about the fork but again it all goes back to the "fat". Blessings, Val
495 | Glorious church? | Rev 1:11 | Val | 206120
No, No, No we are not weak and miserable. Read the end of the book. Revelation 21 and 22. Rev 21:4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away." Rev 21:5 And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He *said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true." Rev 21:6 Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Seek Christ and In Him you will find strength. It is only doomsday to those who are not In Him. Blessings, Val |

496 | They had the knowledge of God | Matt 5:20 | Val | 206119
If you do a word search on the word Pharisees you will learn a lot about them and the whys of what they did. Here is one verse Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God's purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John. In essence they were the leaders, had high positions and Christ threatened their position. They did not want to submit to Him. It is a lot like today. People do not want to submit to Christ. They want to live the way they want. To follow Christ to some means they would have to change their lifestyles, something many do not want to do. Again, a word search on Pharisees will show you much. They would be what we call snobs today. Blessings, Val |

497 | Where the priest impatient and greedy? | 1 Sam 2:13 | Val | 206118
Eli's sons were interrupting the priests in their offering to the Lord. They were not to take the meat until the priest had prepared the fat for the Lord. By their doing this, they were eating the fat. A word study on "fat" shows it was to be the Lord's part. A reading of Lev. 10:1-7 shows how serious offense this was. In essence the behavior was not regarding the Lord as Holy. A reading of 1 Samuel 2:29-36 shows the Lord confronting Eli about this situation. It seems Eli may have been eating the fat as well because he was very fat. For this he and his sons were told what their judgement would be and again in 1 Sam. 3:13. 1 Sam 3:13 "For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them. What they were doing poking the fork in the pot was taking the fat which was the Lord's. They were taking the meat from the pot. The Lord gives instructions and if those instructions are not followed there are consequences. This same truth applies today. God judges sin. Eli failed by not rebuking his sons. As a consequence his sons die on the same day and Eli falls and dies when he hears the news. The ark is taken by Israel's enemies thus the whole nation suffers. 1 Sam 4:15 Now Eli was ninety-eight years old, and his eyes were set so that he could not see. 1 Sam 4:16 The man said to Eli, "I am the one who came from the battle line. Indeed, I escaped from the battle line today." And he said, "How did things go, my son?" 1 Sam 4:17 Then the one who brought the news replied, "Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has also been a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken." 1 Sam 4:18 When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backward beside the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for he was old and heavy. Thus he judged Israel forty years. Blessings, Val |
