161 | Why do some denominations Baptise babies | Acts 16:33 | TheFinalSQL | 122226
Agreed. Acts 8:36-38 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. Praise the Lord! Norm |

Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 164 | I am looking for the word worthlessness | Rom 1:28 | TheFinalSQL | 116419
I have never seen the word worthlessness in any Bible translation. That does not mean it does not exist. Reprobate/depraved/condemned may be the word you are looking for. From Easton's: Reprobate that which is rejected on account of its own worthlessness (Jer 6:30; Heb 6:8; Gr. adokimos, "rejected"). This word is also used with reference to persons cast away or rejected because they have failed to make use of opportunities offered them (1Co 9:27; 2Co 13:5-7). |

166 | filled with holy spirit? | Rom 8:13 | TheFinalSQL | 121202
John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Sound (Strong's 5456): a sound, a tone of inanimate things, as musical instruments a voice of the sound of uttered words speech of a language, tongue The quotes of 1 Cor 14 are perfect to show that the gift of tongues is not speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. 1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. Now look at the Gentiles being brought into the fold. Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 1 Cor 14.22 states that tongues are those that do not believe. Everyone there believed. The Jews believed they already had the Holy Ghost and the Gentiles would not have received the Holy Ghost if they did not believe. Praise the Lord! Norm |

168 | Have you spoke in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | TheFinalSQL | 111129
Have you spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance? This is not the gift of tongues. Please let me repeat that, this is not the gift of tongues. From John 3:8, sound, Strong's 5456: 1) a sound, a tone a) of inanimate things, as musical instruments 2) a voice a) of the sound of uttered words 3) speech a) of a language, tongue Praise the Lord! 171 | Searching for the truth | 1 Cor 11:3 | TheFinalSQL | 125595
How: Deuteronomy 34:5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. Why: Numbers 20:7-12 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. Where: Deuteronomy 34:6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. When: Deuteronomy 34:7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. Praise the Lord! Norm |

172 | Why would we be undone? | 1 Cor 11:30 | TheFinalSQL | 120427
Rowdy, Here are a couple of scriptures that may assist you: Your name is written in the Book of Life when you are saved/born again. Psalms 87:6 The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah. If your name can be removed, then there is no such thing as once saved always saved. Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. If you commit sin, you are separated from God: Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. However, God does give us time to repent. Revelation 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Praise the Lord! Norm |

173 | Should everyone speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 12:10 | TheFinalSQL | 116430
In addition to the gift of tongues, which has been covered rather well, in speaking of tongues there is also the evidence of the Holy Ghost. Isaiah 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Praise the Lord! 174 | The Unity of Faith, Hope and Love | 1 Cor 13:13 | TheFinalSQL | 120258
From Easton's Dictionary: Hope one of the three main elements of Christian character (1Co 13:13). It is joined to faith and love, and is opposed to seeing or possessing (Ro 8:24; 1Jo 3:2). "Hope is an essential and fundamental element of Christian life, so essential indeed, that, like faith and love, it can itself designate the essence of Christianity (1Pe 3:15; Heb 10:23). In it the whole glory of the Christian vocation is centred (Eph 1:18; 4:4)." Unbelievers are without this hope (Eph 2:12; 1Th 4:13). Christ is the actual object of the believer's hope, because it is in his second coming that the hope of glory will be fulfilled (1Ti 1:1; Col 1:27; Tit 2:13). It is spoken of as "lively", i.e., a living, hope, a hope not frail and perishable, but having a perennial life (1Pe 1:3). In Ro 5:2 the "hope" spoken of is probably objective, i.e., "the hope set before us," namely, eternal life (comp. Ro 12:12). In 1Jo 3:3 the expression "hope in him" ought rather to be, as in the Revised Version, "hope on him," i.e., a hope based on God. Praise the Lord! Norm |

Eze 28:11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 177 | Why isn't the gift of tongues a sign? | 2 Cor 13:14 | TheFinalSQL | 112897
"- Not everyone has this or any other gift (12:28-30)" The gift of tongues is a sign, but it is not the sign that you have received the Holy Spirit/Ghost. Who said it? Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. 179 | Did Christ forsake Himself | 2 Cor 13:14 | TheFinalSQL | 112988
Jesus Christ was not God Almighty until after the cross. To the cross: Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. After the cross: Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: He already had the name Jesus. The name he gave him is LORD or Jehavoh Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. Before the cross: Matthew 26:11 ...but me ye have not always. After the cross: Matthew 28:20 ... I am with you alway,... Praise the Lord! Norm |

180 | Why isn't the gift of tongues a sign? | 2 Cor 13:14 | TheFinalSQL | 112992
Sure, lets look at the verse brought up in this thread: 1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. Notice it says that tongues are a sign. But, it says not to them that believe. Now if we look at the speaking of tongues in Acts 10 Acts 10:44-45 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. Notice, they of the circumcion believed. Tongues in 1 Cor 14.22 are for them that do not believe. Thus it is impossible that the tongues in these 2 scriptures are one and the same. Speaking in tingues as the Spirit gives the utterance is not a gift. It is the Spirit speaking for you. John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Praise the Lord!
