321 | Could we get to know Peches better? | Ps 35:1 | Sir Pent | 16320
Dear Peches, Thank you for sharing a little more about yourself. I hope that some of this information will help people on this forum to be able to understand more where you are coming from. For instance, I think it is important that you do not claim to be a Christian. I think that some of the forum members assumed that you were. They responded to some of your posts as if you should know and believe certaing things, that is probably not the case. Hopefully, there will be more patience in the future. I have not heard of the Georgia Medical Institute. What exactly is that? As for being "not educated enough", I personally don't think that it is very important to God. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to be a Christian. The only problem that arises is that sometimes your posts are a little bit hard to understand. That is why I wondered if perhaps your native language was not English, and that you were having to translate. Lastly, I would like to say that I truly appreciate your spirit being "on fire" for God. I hope that you will use that motivation to really get to know who God is, and develop a stronger relationship with Him. I am concerned that you are not going to a church though. Of course, a person doesn't HAVE to go to church to get to know God, but in my opinion it is one of the very best places to do it. What do you think? |

322 | How do you know there is a God? | Ps 46:10 | Sir Pent | 19430
Different Perspective............................. Dear Maryann, I would like to share with you an idea which has been very helpful for me when it comes to your question. I would like to turn the question around and ask, "How do you know that there is not a God?" You see, it is really a yes or no question. Either God exists or He does not, and you are always going to believe one or the other. This way it is more clear that it is not a question of proving either one (which IMHO is impossible), but rather just figuring out which is more likely. |

323 | Are praise and worship different? | Ps 63:4 | Sir Pent | 13965
Dear Steve and Nolan, Lifting up of hands is not a way that I personally choose to worship God. However, I have known many people whom I respect who do choose to worship that way, and it seems to bring them into closer communion with God. I am curious about your definition of worship Steve. If I understand your post, you agree that lifting of hands can be related to praising God (Psalm 134 below). However you say that this is not worship. I always thought that praising God was one form of worship. Could you please explain the differences that you see between them. Psalm 134 1: Come, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who stand by night in the house of the LORD! 2: Lift up your hands to the holy place, and bless the LORD! 3: May the LORD bless you from Zion, he who made heaven and earth! |

324 | Are praise and worship different? | Ps 63:4 | Sir Pent | 14270
Nicodemus, I regret that you too are so offended by my chosen screen name. I have a three perspectives on this issue. 1. I believe that you are wrong to be so apperantly judgemental towards another person just because of a screen name. Especially when the name has been clearly defined in a biblical perspective in both the user profile, as well as by other forum members (thanks for your defense Joren). I would also submit that when God created the serpent or snake (as part of the overall creation), He said it was "good". And in the verse that I reference in my profile, Jesus encourages believers to emulate the positive attribute of wisdom modeled after the serpent. Besides this, my user name is not even Serpent, as such, emphasizing that side of things. But instead is Sir Pent, emphasizing the ideas of chivalry and knighthood. The combined word is only a secondary meaning. 2. My second perspective is this. You are a fellow believer in Christ. I know this from your postings, and from other knowledge which will at this time remain unspoken. Therefore, as a Christian, you must allow the Holy Spirit to guide your life. If just writing my user name in a post is somthing which the Spirit convicts you as being sinful, then I support your decision to refrain from doing that. 3. My final perspective is this. There is a biblical precedent for "judging a tree by its fruit". I would encourage you and all other members of this forum to read several of my responses to others questions. I believe this should give a much more accurate perspective on where I'm comming from than just deciding based on my screen name. |

Personal Note .................................. Dear Kalos, I must warn you my friend. If you continue to post such wise and complete principles for answering all Biblical questions, then you are going to put all of us "forum experts" out of buisness :) |

327 | How do we know we're in the end times? | Is 1:1 | Sir Pent | 127667
Request for clarification............................................. Hello Fatherof4, I had not heard of Preterism before, but I checked out the site you recommended as well as several others. Do you consider yourself a full-preterist or a partial-preterist? If you believe that Jesus "second" coming happened in the first century, then do you believe that he will never come back again, or will there be a "third coming"? |

328 | Did earth shake when satan was cast down | Is 24:20 | Sir Pent | 18826
This is kind of close................... Dear Darmstrn, the best thing that I could find was in Isaiah 24:1, 19-21. These verses definately are talking about God's wrath and judgement on the earth. They also describe the earth staggering. The only problem is that they don't specifically mention Satan being cast down. However, they do talk about God punishing the heavenly beings (of which Satan was one), and the method of this punishement (being cast down into hell) is talked about in other scripture passages. |

An alternative view................................................... Hi Angel, I agree with you that only through God's grace can we come to know Him. However, I would disagree that God doesn't use things like science and philosophy to bring people to Himself. Romans 1:20 says "For since the creation of the world His (God's) invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they (all humans) are without excuse." Luke 19:40 says "But Jesus answered, 'I tell you, if these (My followers) become silent, the stones will cry out!'" These are just two examples of places where the Bible supports the idea that nature (science) can and is used by God to bring people to know Himself. Please type the number 22206 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen. This will take you to a series of posts that I made once explaining how one can discover who God is from observing His creation. |

Clarification......................................................... Hi Angel, I'm glad that you seem to agree that God does reveal Himself to us even through nature (science) and other fields like philosophy and astronomy. The reason why I thought you did not believe that, was your statement that "we cannot seek God through sicence, philosophy or any other human wisdom". I am glad that we are now in agreement, and I forgive you for not wanting to use my screen name. When I first came to the forum many years ago, several people also were concerned about it. However, if you'll click on my name, my user profile explains it's origin. |

Personal Note......................................................... Hi Angel, I am fine with you calling me something other than my full screen name. I would most prefer if you called me by the one that you observe to allign with my posts. If you primarily consider my posts to be defending people and ideas that are right, then I would ask that you call me "Sir". If you primarily consider my posts to be "held in" and expressed with self-control, then I would ask that you call me "Pent". If you do not believe that my posts reflect either of these things, then perhaps you would prefer to just call me "Mark". P.S. I think that we are in agreement that if you subtract God from science, you lose all meaning and purpose. |

332 | does eternal have a beginning? | Jer 1:5 | Sir Pent | 22848
Personal Note .................................... Dear Johnny, As you said, this is off the original topic, and therefore I generally would not wish to respond to it in this thread. However, since you mention that you have asked it repeatedly with no answer, I'll make an exception. It is my opinion that Adam had a better picture of Heaven than any of us, because he lived in a closer approximation than we can even imagine. The Garden of Eden (before the fall) seems like it was very close to Heaven. Adam got to physically walk with God and talk with Him in a much more direct sense than when we pray today. My view of Heaven is a place where we will have uninhibited communion with God. We will actually be able to see Him, and there will be no sin to muddle our relationship. Adam seems to have had both of these things to begin with. Therefore, I think that Adam knew very well, what he was choosing to reject by disobeying God, and therefore deserved to suffer the consequences. I hope this helps, and I'll refrain from adding anything else to this thread since I am off topic. |

334 | Do not fear what you say, it will not | Jer 15:2 | Sir Pent | 13696
There is a couple verses (Jeremiah 32: 36-37) which are somewhat similar. In those verses, the people are "saying" that a city will be given over to "the sword, famine, and pestilence", but God comes back and says that this will "not happen", but instead that the city will be given protection and safety. It is a stretch, but that might be what you're looking for. "36": And now therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; "37": Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely: |

335 | Angels mentioned by name in Bible? | Dan 8:16 | Sir Pent | 120524
My answer............................................................ Hi Debbie, In protestant Bibles there are two good angels named "Gabriel" and "Michael". In Catholic Bibles there is a third good angel named "Raphael". As for bad angels, the only one named is "Lucifer" aka "Satan". |

336 | Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113288
Why did God wait so long to send the Holy Spirit? I have been thinking lately about why God waited so long to send the Holy Spirit. Some people believe the Earth to be millions of years old. And even if you believe in a young Earth like myself, the world is at least 6000 years old. Yet God has only sent the Holy Spirit to be in people's lives for the last 2000 years. Before that, there were probably less than 50 people (ie. Old Testament prophets and judges) out of millions of people around to world who had that privilege. Since we know that God wanted to give the Holy Spirit to people. And we know that He could have done it at any time. Why did He wait so long? |

337 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113356
Can anyone else answer this question? I appreciate that Johnny at least tried, but just saying that God's timing is perfect doesn't really answer the question. Doesn't anyone out there have any thoughts on this issue. Why did God's perfect timing dictate that He wait so long to send the Holy Spirit? |
||||||
338 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113765
Agree, but not the answer.................................. Hi Johnny, I agree with you that God timing is perfect. My question is why was the "perfect" time so long after the world began. I also agree with you that God is not confined to our time. However, we are stuck in our time, so although waiting may not seem long to God, it sure does to us. Thanks again for trying to answer and for reminding us about the all mighty nature of God. |

339 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113767
I need clarification...................................... Hi Mommapbs, If I understand your answer, you are saying that the Holy Spirit can only dwell in people who are truly clean in the eyes of God. You seem to be saying that the people in the Old Testament who believed were not truly clean, and thus could not have the Holy Spirit in the way we can. Therefore, your answer is that the Holy Spirit couldn't come in fullness until after Jesus had been sacrificed to make us clean. This brings up 2 questions. The first is how could the Holy Spirit come on the prophets if they weren't clean? The second is if the Holy Spirit couldn't come until after Jesus, then why wait so long to send Jesus? |

340 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113768
Agree, but not the answer......................................... Hi BradK, You seem to be saying the same thing that Johnny said. I agree that God sent the Spirit in His own time, which was the fullness of time. But why was that point so late in humanities history. |
