81 | Taught of God? Walk in God? | 1 Thess 4:9 | Ray | 152553
Hi Doc, What "doctrine" do you think I am building by my question about the relationship between 1 Thess and John passages? What do you think the "silent influence of his Spirit on our hearts" that Albert Barnes writes about is leading us to love and do? (Specifically as it relates to 1 Thess and John). 1) The references for occurances of "taught of God" in my Study Bible are Jeremiah 31:33f, John 6:45, and 1 John2:27. 2) Jesus (who is God) was a great Teacher, and I agree that we should compare Scripture to Scripture. 3) Of course we also have 1 Corinthians 2:13, "taught by the [Holy] Spirit." NKJ, 1 Cor 2:13, "These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual." From the heart, Ray |

83 | Dedication of...for the house of our God | 1 Chr 29:2 | Ray | 152532
Reference #152531, 1 Chron 29:2 and Ezra 7:21 1 Chron 29:5, "of gold for the [things of] gold, and of silver for the [things of] silver, that is, for all the work done by the craftsmen. Who then is willing to consecrate himself this day to the Lord?" Ezra 7:20, "And the rest of the needs for the house of your God, for which you may have occasion to provide, provide for it from the royal treasury." Any thoughts on these verses? |

84 | verse Bible- contains all letters but J | Ezra 7:21 | Ray | 152531
Hi tracker, This is interesting trivia. Where did you hear it and what was the bottom line thought of the investigator? Did he say something like "So all we need now is (J)esus?" With that thought in mind let's look at the passage in 1 Chronicles 29:2 and consider the [things] of that verse. The Hebrew does not have "things of" in the manuscripts evidently because the occurances are in italics in our Bibles. So we could in context with the investigator who evidently spent some amount of time and effort to find these two verses--that he is interested in the "things" of alphebetical leters. My hope is that his efforts and his ability are being provided for the "house of my God". 1 Chronicles 29:2. 1) Personally, my interest is not in alphabetical letters but in words; and the "things" I am interested in are the nouns [person, place or things] and pronouns of Deity. 2) When looking at the idea of our needing only (J)esus now, I would consider the prayer found in 1 Chronicles 29:10-19. In this prayer they look to the "Lord God of Israel our father, forever and ever", 1 Chron 29:10, NASB. They also say, "And You are exalted as head over all." 1 Chron 29:11, NKJ. Who are we making as "head" of our lives? From the heart, Ray |

86 | Are you still with us? | 1 Thess 4:9 | Ray | 152465
Hi terrib, Still here, brother. Thanks for asking. I have been vacationing on a beach and summer cottage of a friend in Pentwater, Michigan. I had strength to do quite a bit of fishing there even after mid-vacation coming home for more scheduled chemo treatment. I am experiencing more bone pain and needing appropriate medicine more often so you can continue to pray for me. You all are doing fine without me. Keep up your good work. From the heart, Ray |

87 | Both spirit and Spirit present within us | Rev 2:28 | Ray | 151811
Hi Tim, Thank you for that information as well. Do you have any comments concerning what BradK and I have talked about? Does the idea of His humanity enter into the context of this passage? How are we to look at the (s)Spirit of (h)Holiness in verse 4 in comparison/contrast to our spirit serving in the gospel of His Son in verse 9? From the heart, Ray |

88 | what does John 3:5 mean? | Psalm | Ray | 151804
Hi missiepris19, Welcome to the forum. Or could an answer be Genesis 1:2? With the idea that light is spirit. See Ephesians 5:8-13. Ephesians 5:8, NASB, 1977, "for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light..." From the heart, Ray |

90 | Both spirit and Spirit present within us | Rev 2:28 | Ray | 151800
Hi BradK, I agree with you in that we both appear to go with the NASB for Romans 1:4 in its placement of "Jesus Christ our Lord". As far as the birth of His Son [sic] is concerned; if we keep the Son capitalized as is the Son of God, then the flesh and the Spirit of (h)Holiness are not in opposition. That is the mystery and wonder of the incarnation; that He can be both Man and God. That is the gospel of God for which we as saints are set apart. 1) I learned tonight that another word (instead of "declared" or "appointed" to be the Son of God), would be "marked out". Green's Literal Version translates it thus. It has the idea of Strong's #3724, "horizo; from the same as 3725; to mark off by boundaries, to determine:--appointed(2), declared(1), determined(3), fixes(1), pre-determined(1)." He was "determined" to be the Son of God. From the heart, Ray |

91 | Both spirit and Spirit present within us | Rev 2:28 | Ray | 151682
Hi Tim, My next question then for you is, "The "through (w)Whom" is speaking of Whom? The NASB has Jesus Christ our Lord in proximity there; and I now note that the NKJ has Jesus Christ our Lord in verse 3. So is the "through (w)Whom" talking about the Spirit of Holiness or is it concerning His Son who was born according to the flesh? From the heart, Ray |

92 | Why can we not just be Christians? | 1 Pet 1:2 | Ray | 151661
Hi Angel, Thank you for your encouragement. 2 Corinthians 6:1, "And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of (God) in vain--" Hebrews 10:29, "...and has insulted the (Spirit) of grace?" 1) Hebrews 10:38, "But (My) righteous one shall live by faith;..." Romans 1:17, "For in it the righteousness of (God) is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "But the righteous man shall live by faith." Romans 8:37, "But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through (Him) who loved us." Colossians 1:28, "And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in (Christ)." From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, Which version do you go with for Romans 1:4,5? The NKJ does not have "Jesus Christ our Lord" and the NKJ has a "through Him" instead of the "through whom" of the NASB. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Hank, Am I to understand that you see no similarities in the Scripture references I quoted and the placement of the parentheses? Where were you, Hank, when I first used parentheses in 04-01-01? Where were you from then to very recently, having made no comment about it whatsoever. From the heart, Ray |

95 | Why can we not just be Christians? | 1 Pet 1:2 | Ray | 151597
Hi Angel, Romans 1:29 was probably the verse that Not Yet had in mind. Here are verses that I would tie together after reading the discussion on this thread. Romans 1:22, "Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible (God) for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures." 2 Peter 3:14, "Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by (Him) in peace, spotless and blamesless," 2 Thess 3:4, "And we have confidence in the (Lord) concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command." John 4:25, "...(He) will declare all things to us." John 5:40, "and you are unwilling to come to (Me) that you may have life." John 6:65, "And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you that no one can come to (Me) unless it has been granted him from the Father." Ephesians 5:24, "But as the church is subject to (Christ), so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything." 2 Corinthians 5:20, "Therefore, we are ambassadors for (Christ)..." Colossians 2:6, "As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in (Him)," Colossians 3:1, "If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of (God). 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." Romans 8:16, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God)," The parentheses are mine for comparisons. From the heart, Ray |

99 | Walking in the light of the Lord. | Eph 5:8 | Ray | 151514
Hi WOS, You wrote, "Hear the word bother." I sense by what you write and the restriction placed on our conversation that I am regarded as more of a "bother" than a brother. :) However, I say again that the Word (God) is not an it, and when I hear an audio rendition of the word of God I will hear the words. It is important to know that we not only have the words of God, but we have the historical Jesus who was God in the flesh. 1 Timothy 3:16, "And by common confession great is the mystery of godliness: He/ [Marginal note, Some later mss. read God] who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Beheld by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory." 2 John 1:6, "And this is love, that we walk according to (His) commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ AS COMING IN THE FLESH. This is the deceiver and the anitchrist." 1 John 4:2, "By this you know the *spirit of (God): every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ HAS COME IN THE FLESH is from God; 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 4 You are from God/, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." I have put a * with *spirit because I interpret it differently from the NASB. The parentheses and the ALL CAPS are mine for comparisons. I trust that we can still have a good conversation. See also 1 Tim 3:5, Romans 9:6, Hebrews 6:5, Mark 3:30. From the heart, Ray |

100 | Using Job 34:32 to understand 35:3? | Job 34:32 | Ray | 151468
Hi terrib, I agree with you. Yet both the NKJ and the NASB have a capitalized You. Although, in fairness to the NASB it has in the marginal note [Or, you]. We should say to (God), "Teach me what I do not see." Job34:32 "But no one says, "Where is God my (Maker), Who gives songs in the night, 11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, And makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?'" From the heart, Ray |
