NSAB Matt 19:6 "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate3." AMPLIFIED Matt 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate). And 4 Mark 10:9 "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." My question is if we are sure that God did not really join us together but it was an act our our own will then does that mean we can divorce? |

6 | The letter "J" didn't exist until 500ad | Bible general Archive 1 | Rainbow Maker | 39891
Now I haven't done any research yet but consider the following: These names now begin with "J" because the "J" is from the English not the original. 1. If at all possible try to view manuscripts pre 500 AD to see what is the case, I believe we will find a "Y" or the equivalent Hebrew letter and an "I" for the Greek. 2. Depending upon what current translation you are using some use "J" while some use"Y", for instance the NACB sometimes uses a "Y" and sometimes a "J". I wish this Bible was on a search engine since I cannot remember a reference off the top of my head, though we had one at Bible Study last Wednesday week in the New Jerusalem. I've done a word search on Joshua, the reference is Ex. 17: 14 and the Hebrew word for Joshua is Yehoshua. I've also done one on Jesus, one reference is Matt. 1:6 and the Greek is Iêsous; of Heb.[3091]Yehoshua. Jesus or Joshua. I would be interested to hear more. andy Rainbow Maker |

7 | Who is "Lilith" in Isaiah 34:13-15? | Genesis | Rainbow Maker | 38534
Is 34:13 says Thorns will come up in its fortified towers, Nettles and thistles in its fortified cities; It will also be a haunt of jackals And an abode of ostriches. Is 34:14 The desert creatures will meet with the wolves, The hairy goat also will cry to its kind; Yes, the night monster will settle there And will find herself a resting place. Is 34:15 The tree snake will make its nest and lay eggs there, And it will hatch and gather them under its protection. Yes, the hawks will be gathered there, Every one with its kind. Perhaps you might quote the verse for us. I have done a person search and no Lilith is recorded in the Bible, furthermore she is not mentioned anywhere in the text you have quoted. Read Genisis 1:26 through to 3: 24. As for Adam and Eve. In Hebrew Adam is a collective noun meaning mankind, see information note in notes beside the verse here in the search engine, a word also having to do with the Hebrew word for clay adama. The word Eve is Chavvah also from the information search engine here, from an unused word, life, the first woman. Adam and Eve or the Man and the woman as more modern translations refer are meant to be examples out of many of our first parents. As individuals an actual Adam and Eve may not have existed as people with those names. However there were once upon a time the first of all people whom our God created and the Genisis story is that story. The story of mankind's rebellion and falling from grace. The first man of all men may have had numerous wives but this reality is not known to us. What is important for us from these stories of creation is that we absorb the theological truth and that is that our God is creator of all that is. That God created humankind and set them in a perfect world in which they lacked for nothing. Our God also gave them free will and this they chose to use to their and our detriment. Thjough if they had not our Lord Jesus would never have been incarnated and died to set us free. 8 | How did Noah know about clean animals? | Genesis | Rainbow Maker | 38538
"And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Gen 6:20 "Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. Gen 6:21 "As for you, take for yourself some of all food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them." Gen 6:22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did. NASB neither in the Jerusalem nor the above are the words clean and unclean animals mentioned. What is to be inferred by the notion of animals going two by two into the Ark is that unless Noah took them into the they would cease to exist. That is why God says And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark. This particular part of Genesis is of the Priestly Tradition which was written during the Babylonian exile so the Law had well and truly been given to Moses when this was written. The book of Genesis was given its final editing in the sixth century B.C. The New Jerome Biblical Commentary, study edition,Chapman,Prentice Hall, 2000,page 15 |

9 | Who else besides Cain, Adam, and Eve? | Genesis | Rainbow Maker | 38605
Gen 4:17 Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. Gen 4:18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael became the father of Methushael, and Methushael became the father of Lamech. We may believe one of two things about the other people. That they were the un-named sisters and other brothers of Cain. That when God created humankind that there where more that one set of our first parents. The Bible doesn't give us their names it just infers that there were other people over in the land of Nod where Cain found his wife. Rainbow Maker |

10 | Who is "Lilith" in Isaiah 34:13-15? | Genesis | Rainbow Maker | 38800
Greetings Tim, Gen 5:5 says So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died. The Hebrew word for Adam here is from the same as 120; meaning the first man, also a city in the Jordan Valley:Adam 12 I always like to check the etymology and translation of Words because it helps me to understand what was being said in the first place. It appears that one of two Hebrew words are used to refer to Adam and may be singular or plural. So that sometimes the Bible refers to a man called Adam and sometimes to mankind collectively. So in this case it is a man called Adam whom is referred to and it is he who lived for 930 years. Naturally it was he who fathered Seth since many men cannot father a single individual. Note that in the first story of creation in Genesis chapter one that no name is given for the man and the woman furthermore that it the term man which translates as humanity because what follows is plural because God says let them. Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Gen 1:27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Gen 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." It is not until chapter 2 that we have the name Adam for the man and not until verse 20 and note that firstly here it is just the man and then it is Adam;Gen 2:20 says The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. Rom 5:14 says Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Here note that Paul is refering to Adam as a Type of Christ, so it is legitimate to do so. Paul also says that sin reigned over everyone even over those who did not sin in the manner of Adam. So whether Adam and Eve were our first parents or merely typify them this has no effect whatsoever on our status today. Also it seems not to matter whether we are directly related to Adam because due to his sin we are all under the penalty of the Law see Rom 3:23 which tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. 11 | Why God told the Jews to Divorce. | Ezra 10:10 | Rainbow Maker | 39526
Subject: "God commanded the Jews to divorce" Ezra 10:10-11 ESV And Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, "You have broken faith and married foreign women, and so increased the guilt of Israel. Now then make confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign wives." Note In Ezra 10:10-11 "God actually commanded the Jews to divorce by separating from these idolatrous wives. ... Though God hates divorce, there are times when it is the lesser of the evils and would prevent a future and even greater spiritual catastrophe." MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997 Again: Ezra 9:2 "For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race has intermingled with the peoples of the lands; indeed, the hands of the princes and the rulers have been foremost in this unfaithfulness." When cross referenced with : - Deut 7:1 "When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you, Deut 7:2 and when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them. Deut 7:3 "Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons. Deut 7:4 "For they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you. Deut 7:5 "But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire. Deut 7:6 "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.NASB AND Ex 34:15 otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they would play the harlot with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone might invite you to eat of his sacrifice, We are dealing with separate events in the History of Israel when it was in the best interest of the people, firstly when entering Palestine and secondly when returning there after the captivity in Babylon, not to intermarry with the nations. Note: 10:6-44 All the returned exiles gathered in Jerusalem to hear Ezra’s rebuke and prescription for the problem of mixed marriage of Jew to non-Jew. The men are to separate themselves from the peoples of the land which in later centuries became a Jewish technical term for non-Israelite residents in the land and from foreign wives. Thus the pattern was set for strict ethnic purity to be observed by those who see themselves as God’s covenant people. The rule was applied to Jewish officials, priests, Levites, and the people of Israel in general. Note: Accordingly, the wives and children of the returning Jews who had intermarried were to be sent away. Cambridge Annotated Study Bible NRSV With Apocrypha Edited By Howard Clark Kee Parsons Technology, Inc. Cedar Rapids, Iowa Weeping, in this case, is good, but reforming is better. As to being unequally yoked with unbelievers, such marriages, it is certain, are sinful, and ought not to be made; but now they are not null, as they were before the gospel did away the separation between Jews and Gentiles. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary On The Whole Bible By Matthew Henry Yes God did tell the Jews to divorce their foreign wives and to send them home with the children because the purity of the Jewish faith was paramount. The Exodus reference suggests the strong influence a wife might have on her family. Rainbow Maker |

13 | Under pressure?? | Ps 4:1 | Rainbow Maker | 39165
"For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 2 Matt 6:27 "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 3 Matt 6:28 "And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, Tremendous pressure often brings worry and our Lord Jesus tells us that this is boith futile and unnecessary. He alone can answer all our needs. If we are anxious because of our worry and pressure then Jesus tells us to be anxious for nothing: Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. If we would have peace then just ask Jesus for it. |

14 | OT Gentile Conversion | Is 56:3 | Rainbow Maker | 39523
Someone who wished to become an Israelite was called a Proselyte. Here is an article which explains it. 1. GER IN THE OLD TESTAMENT: No difficulties were put in the way of those strangers who wished to settle down in the land of Israel. All strangers, the third generation of Egyptians and Edomites included, and only Ammonites and Moabites excluded, could enter “the congregation of God” without circumcision and without the obligation to keep the ceremonial law. ‘The stranger within the gate’ was free to eat meat which was prohibited to the Israelite (Dt 14:21). If, however, the stranger wished to take part in the Passover, a feast permeated with national ideals, he must be circumcised. The keeping of the Sabbath and other feasts was regarded rather as a privilege than as a duty (Ex 23:12; Dt 16:11, 14); but according to Lev 16:29 the was obliged to keep the fast of Atonement. He was forbidden on pain of death to blaspheme (Lev 24:16) or to offer children to Molech (Lev 20:2). If he desired to bring a burnt offering, the same law applied to him as to the Israelites (Lev 17:8; 22:18). Though the law of circumcision was not forced upon the , it seems that the Mosaic Law endeavored to bring him nearer to the cult of Israel, not from any proselytizing motives, but in order to preserve theocracy from admixture of foreign elements, which would speedily have proved fatal to its existence. Though the God of Israel, when He is thought of only as such, ceases to be God; though Israel was chosen before all nations for all nations; though Israel had been again and again reminded that the Messiah would bring a blessing to all nations; and though there were instances of pagans coming to believe in Yahweh, yet it did not belong to the economy of Old Testament religion to spread the knowledge of God directly among the Gentiles (the Book of Jonah is an exception to this). There was certainly no active propagandism. Though we read in Neh 10:28 of those who “separated themselves from the peoples of the lands unto the law of God” (compare Isa 56:3, “the foreigner, that hath joined himself to Yahweh”—the only and exact description of a proselyte proper in the Old Testament), the spirit of exclusiveness prevailed; the doubtful elements were separated (Ezr 4:3): mixed marriages were prohibited by the chiefs, and were afterward disapproved of by the people (Ezr 9; 10; Neh 13:23 ff). Direct proselytism did not begin till about a century later. The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia in Parsons Technology 1992 -1989 Rainbow Maker |

15 | Horns of the Altar | Jer 17:1 | Rainbow Maker | 38426
And Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, and he arose, went and took hold of the horns of the altar. The Horns of the Altar are the four corners of the altar of burnt sacrifices or holocausts. According to the New Jerome Biblical Commentary, Prentis Hall,1968,1990 page 163 inorder for Adonijah to claim assylum he actually needed to lay hold of the Horns of the Altar, it was not sufficient just to be inside the Temple. Binding the Festival sacrifice to the Horns of the Altar is symbolic of Jesus Christ only when the sacrifice is a perfect Lamb without blemish for such was the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The sacrifice of Jesus, the perfect Lamb was to replace all further blood sacrifices and so when we read of the altar of holocausts we look forward to the time of that perfect sacrifice which brought an end, for those who accept it, claim it, to death for sin. 16 | why Mt.8:28 talks about 2 men and Mk.5:2 | Matthew | Rainbow Maker | 38435
In a theology and scripture study course I did back in 1986 we were told that the Gospel of Matthew was written to a community which was half jewish christian and half Syrian christian or in other words christians of jewish and gentile extract. This is the reason that Matthew often uses two instead of one such as the two blind men, see Matt 9:27 "As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" compare Mark 6: 46 "a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road." By the use of two Matthew shows his community that the Good News belongs both to the jewish and Gentile christians in his community. Rainbow Maker |

17 | Soul destroyed? or Eternal suffering? | Matt 10:28 | Rainbow Maker | 39269
Matthew 10:28 "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. AMPLIFIED Matthew 10:28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna). Thank you for your excellent research, I have spent some time following your search. I am certainly not intending to be flipent (oh for a spell check) but consider that the Scriptures tell us a great deal about the power, might, love of our God what if the following: - "Rather fear Him who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell." speaks of the power of God to do if He would though does not tell us that He necessary will. I too am not quick to speak for the annihilation of most of the unbelieving. I am also not so presumptious as to assume that just because I count myself as a believer that he will not say to me "Depart from me 'I never knew you." Matt. 7:23 my paraphrase. Rainbow Maker |

19 | Are the wheat and tare in the church | Matt 13:24 | Rainbow Maker | 38423
The parable of the wheat and the tares follows the parable of the sower who went out to sow see Matthew 13:14-24. In this parable we hear of the different responses to the word of salvation and the results thereof. The parable of the wheat and Tares follows this and refers to the Reign of God, New American Catholic Bible, or to the Kingdom of God which is among us and who it is inhabits the Kingdom and how and when we know the difference. In other words Jesus is refering to the world now that God is incarnate and dwelling here among us. The next stage of the Kingdom of God is the one in which we live now that Jesus has sent the Spirit to be with us following the Resurrection. This world contains both good, wheat and evil Tares people all living together, indistinguishable from each other until the harvest when they will be known by their fruits for who they are. Since the Church is in the World and not the other way around then these verses tell us that there are also Tares in the Church as well as in the world. Furthermore they teach us the importance of discernment in the Christian life since we cannot possibly really know the difference between these two groups of people; only God does who looks upon the heart rather than on the outward appearence. 20 | Prayer | Matt 21:22 | Rainbow Maker | 40464
Matt 21:22 "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." Have faith Grace, Jesus loves you and God will answer your prayers. There is nothing that you are doing wrong. God our Father always answers prayers though not always in our time. God does not always say yes, but he always answers prayer. When you pray, pray thy kingdom come and thank God that His perfect will be done, you cannot do more than this. Andy |
